It’s that time of year when we all start thinking about going on a diet. Anyone on my fitness pal who wants to make some friends for motivation?

I am doing well so far. I have a compulsion to weigh myself every morning, cannot help it, so I track my weight in an app that gives me a trend and smooths out any little rises and falls. So this morning my actual weight was 16 stone 6 but my "trend" weight is 16 stone 9.1 - which I take as my "true" weight. Which is still a 4.9lb loss in 9 days.

I use the pacer app on my phone for counting steps, which is synced to MFP. So for my calorie goal on MFP I set myself as sedentary then get added calories added from exercise when the pacer app syncs up. I try and avoid eating back no more than half of those "exercise" calories as I am not sure how accurate it is, but so far it seems to be working well for me.

That sounds sensible. What app is that please?

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 12/01/2019 15:11

It is called Libra

TheFirstOHN · 12/01/2019 15:45

Thank you

I think I have broken myself. I'm currently training for a marathon in April and needed to run 16-18km today. My marathon is on a paved, completely flat footpath. So obviously I plotted a very hilly, bridleway and muddy footpath route. Struggled a lot, and ended up finishing in the dark. But I did get nearly 1500cal credit for it.

Sadly my pelvis and feet are complaining a LOT now, so I've booked a sports massage for Monday. Fingers crossed that will sort me! Will prob try a gentle 5k tomorrow to loosen everything up as well. Photo is from the top of the hill I ran up.

MFP friends anyone?
fatgirlrunning · 13/01/2019 08:51

Socks good luck with the marathon and training. My running had gone to shit since September. I've been holed up stuffing my face since November so I've only managed 3 runs since the new year. I won't even go to parkrun as I'm so embarrassed how heavy and slow I've become.

Seeing your photo has made me want to go out today though Smile

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 13/01/2019 11:57

Does anyone know a good at home work out dvd?

I was going to start couch to 5k, but I felt so embarrassed running at my size I cant face it again for a bit. (although I really want to do it at some point and start a park run) I just am not in the right place to do it now.

So I figured I will keep as I am doing, calorie counting, but maybe do an exercise video.

SocksRock · 13/01/2019 16:30

I was nearly 17stone when I started running. I would only run after dark because I was too embarrassed to let people see me. C25K came first, and once I did that I did some parkruns but I was still really really slow. 43min time.

Then a friend of mine came out with me a few times during the day, and I gradually started to relax about my size, I'd actually lost half a stone by this point and I started to up the distance slowly. I then entered a 10k race to give me a bit of ooompf and motivation. I was 16st7 when I ran that 10k, it was hilly as fuck and 30deg. My friend (who is a 52min 10k woman) stayed with me every step of the way and I finished in 1h21, with only about 100m of walking.

I then started to take my diet a bit more seriously, this was now August 2017. I did a couple more 10k's over the autumn and eating mindfully and I started to lose more weight, by Christmas 2017 I was just over 15st.

January 2018 I did RED January and it was probably one of the hardest things I've done, but I lost another stone that month.

First half marathon was May 2018 - 2h11 which I was amazed with! Again a really hot day, but flat this time.

I then lost focus over the summer and put a bit of weight on, so I entered another half marathon for the October with the aim of going under 2 hours. I was down to about 13st7 by this point. I did that half in 1h59:10, squeaking in by the skin of my skinny teeth, and just tipped into the 12st bracket.

Over November/December it all went a bit Pete Tong, and I put half a stone back on. So obvs the thing to do was to enter a marathon for April 2019 (14th, 13 weeks to go NOT THAT IM COUNTING). I'm now just over 13st, I really need to be about 11st7 to be a healthy weight so it's ON.

My lovely friend is with me every step, and I've managed to get another friend running as well and we regularly do 10k together.

It's been a slow slow journey, but I'm mentally and physically so much happier.

The first run starts with a single step, and C25K is somewhat akin to witchcraft in my opinion.

Currently my PB's are 5k 24:58, 10k 54:50 and half 1:59:10 but it's taken me 2 years and some serious sweat (and some excellent boob support!) to get here. Just do one run. And then the next one. And then another one.

Sorry for the essay. MFP has been vital as well, I eat all my exercise calories, try for 12-1400 net calories per day and the weight loss has been slow but obvious.

SocksRock · 13/01/2019 16:32

I am 5'8" tall and was convinced I could carry that weight well. The photos say otherwise and I still have a couple as "favourites" so I can look back and see how far I've come

TheFirstOHN · 13/01/2019 17:51

SocksRock that is really impressive. I went through a phase of doing parkrun most weeks (not really running but more brisk walking with the occasional short jog) and it takes me around 50 minutes. I hate every moment though.

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 13/01/2019 19:19

Physically I could probably do it, just I hate myself right now and feel like everyone is looking at me if I run.

Was a bit tight on calories tonight, so just went for a nice long walk - I can and do walk lots, I easily reach 10k steps over the course of the day at work and we regularly go for a walk in a huge park near us and I can walk straight at a good pace for 3-4 hours.

Boysmomma · 14/01/2019 13:42

I'm having an ok week, but the cravings are ridiculous. Every once in a while and all I want is crisps. I can give up anything else but s&v crisps are my downfall!

Everyone seems to be making great losses, well done!

@Bears I'm like you, I hate running, walking, no problem, I'll do any weight class you sen me to just don't expect me to run.

SocksRock · 14/01/2019 14:55

Hit a low point today, all I can do is eat. So frustrating. I'm already 500 calories over for today and I haven't had any tea yet

TheFirstOHN · 14/01/2019 15:06

BearsDontDigOnDancing thank you for recommending the Libra app; I'm finding it helpful.

SocksRock · 14/01/2019 15:26

So I've left work 10min early to give me chance to walk back to the P&R. Won't erase the whole horror of the supersize Brie and cranberry baguette, but it should help...

Boysmomma · 14/01/2019 15:53

Oh @Socks, maybe just let today go and have a clear run tomorrow? We all have off days, this needs to be about a new way of eating, not about restricting and taking all the joy out of food.

So you have an off day, fuckit, you're still further down the line than you were this time last year! You're doing great!

fezzesarecool · 14/01/2019 16:02

BearsDontDigOnDancing Try this, you can always change the walking parts to jogging

m.youtube.com/watch?v=KCe3ZS7pAC4

Or download the C25k app and do it at home, so jogging on the spot or as I’m currently using it Week 1 Run 1 for interval training so I run/box/star jump etc all out for 60 seconds and then recover for 90 and repeat It’ll help build up your stamina and confidence until you’re ready to do the actual real thing.

I can also recommend the 30 shred, just modify what you have to and you don’t have to do it as the 30 day thing.

I started off with very old style exercise DVDs (like the y plan which I still do) and build myself up from there with more DVDs or changing up the moves to things I wanted to attempt and build up to.

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 14/01/2019 17:35

TheFirstOHN - no problems, I find it really helpful to have a trend like that.

So far today have eaten nothing!! Woke up this morning feeling awful and sick, so have been off work, which I hate, always feel guilty even though I know I could nit have gone in. Could not keep water down this morning, but about to brave some weak tea!!

I like the look of those Leslie Sanson videos.

SocksRock · 15/01/2019 22:42

Better day today - couple of hundred calories over by the end of the day, but pulling it back. Ran today, will run tomorrow. Then run Friday and long run Saturday which will be 20km this week

TheFirstOHN · 16/01/2019 18:57

Today DS3 and I went to a tea shop that does fancy cakes. They've recently introduced a new Swiss roll so I had a slice of that. I could have had a cup of tea with it, but no, I decided to have a hot chocolate with whipped cream.

Oh well, tomorrow is a new day.

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 16/01/2019 23:09

Getting back to normal here, still not much of an appetite, but have lost 7lbs since Sunday apparently!

Am sure will put most of that back on once eating properly.

Pinkroseuk · 17/01/2019 18:46

How's everyone getting on?
I've got stuck and not loosing any more weight -
Some of my friends say I'm not eating enough- others say too much! Totally stuck as to what to do!

TheFirstOHN · 17/01/2019 18:58

I am still losing slowly, trying to take one day at a time. This evening is the first time I have had any wine to drink since starting, and I'm a bit Shock at how many calories it contains.

MajesticWhine · 18/01/2019 08:44

I have lost 3 pounds since 1st week of Jan. I have not been very strict and have had a couple of meals out and drinks. But most days feeling a little bit hungry 😐

Boysmomma · 18/01/2019 09:29

I've my weigh in tomorrow morning, I'm hoping that I've lost something, anything but my body seems to hold onto everything then suddenly drop half a stone. It's hard not to feel disheartened when you can't even shift half a lb in 2 weeks!!

Looking forward to the weekend, I've plans made every day so no time to sit around and stuff my face!
