It’s that time of year when we all start thinking about going on a diet. Anyone on my fitness pal who wants to make some friends for motivation?

Haha I’ve done that before Grin I looked for wotsits on mfp the other day to find my most recently eaten amount was 6 packets Hmm I think I should manage my steps today, it’ll be the first time all Xmas! Aiming to do the first yoga class tomorrow but will do a vid today. According to my shiny new scales my body fat is at 54% which is quite frankly ridiculous

SocksRock · 08/01/2019 14:39

HIIT and run done. Am sitting on an awesome 18500 steps for the day so far.

Did have a pub lunch but Wetherspoons so I tracked everything into MFP, have left myself 600cal for tea, which should be plenty as long as I can stay away from the kids leftovers!

smeerf · 08/01/2019 19:35

I have a beach holiday booked for May, first since I gave birth last year. Really hoping I can get to 60kg as then all my pre pregnancy summer clothes will fit. In the past I used MFP to get from 88kg to 60kg over the course of 2 years, so I know I can do it, it's just a case of sticking to it...

I've added everyone on the thread, my username is 5t3lla and my diary should be viable.

smeerf · 08/01/2019 19:36

Visible. Not viable. Sigh

Bringbackthestripes · 08/01/2019 20:40

Well it was chippy tea for everyone- not planned but necessity. I checked MFP and 150g of chippy chips was a massive 785 cals so I weighed out a meagre 75g and had a 69cal slice of bread and that was my tea. It was tiny and I am starving.

I was a bit miffed when I actually came to log it and saw another chippy chips with a green tick that had a LOT less calories and seemed to think my 75g was only 100 cals. Confused

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 08/01/2019 21:05

Google puts chip shop chips at 956 cals for a 400g serving (meaning 179 cals for 75g). At least this way you can have something more to eat Smile

smeerf · 08/01/2019 22:22

bringbackthestripes I always err on the side of caution with these things. If there's multiple entries in mfp for the same thing, I pick the highest one. If it's wrong, then it works out in your favour as you'll be at a lower calorie deficit than you thought and you'll lose quicker!

MajesticWhine · 08/01/2019 22:26

@Boysmomma - tell me about 5:2 then - does that help you to maintain weight rather than lose? Do you find it easy? What do you have on the fasting days?

Bringbackthestripes · 09/01/2019 07:38

Ahhhh- didn’t think to double check with google. I was miffed I had a tiny portion, threw a load of tasty chips in the bin and I was still starving!
I Have been putting the higher one in as clearly by getting fat I have been underestimating my whole life Grin

Thanks

Win for this morning - I just missed the P&R bus in to work. So I decided to walk instead of wait for the next one. Beat the bus and got 3590 steps in as well :-)

Boysmomma · 09/01/2019 10:52

@Majestic I actually joined a thread on mumsnet (where else!)

Some use it to lose, others to maintain. Me, I'm using it to lose, and to get it into better habits.

A big part of it is no snacking, that's my biggest fall down. I find it easier now than I did the first few weeks. I suppose the biggest shock was MFP'ing (it's a verb now) everything and realising my portions were a lot bigger and more fattening than I believed. There's loads if recipes and ideas but on FD the biggest thing is to have your prep done so you have no opportunity to snack or fall down. I usually keep it high protein as the point is to eat as much as possible and use your calories wisely so no sugar, no fruit and no wine!! It's nice when you get into the swing of things but I'm struggling at the moment, sohere I am! I stick to eggs, fish, and chicken/turkey on FD. I skip breakfast and have a nice lunch and dinner that way.

Boysmomma · 09/01/2019 10:52

@socks that's amazing!

TheFirstOHN · 09/01/2019 14:55

I suppose the biggest shock was MFP'ing (it's a verb now) everything and realising my portions were a lot bigger and more fattening than I believed.

I agree with this. I'm using MFP to make myself aware of the fact that I was habitually overeating. Eating 3000+ calories per day had become my new normal, and I no longer even recognised it as overeating.

LeastOriginalUsername · 09/01/2019 15:00

Count me in please - and also friend me on MFP "lohoho01" Smile

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 09/01/2019 18:59

I am doing ok so far.

Was counting out Lidl meatballs last night!!

Think I need some new kitchen scales though, it seems to vary wildy depending on placement on the scales!!

TheFirstOHN · 09/01/2019 19:00

Tonight's dinner for the family was macaroni cheese. Which also happens to be one of my favourite dishes.

Some walking will have to happen tomorrow.

Pinkroseuk · 09/01/2019 19:18

We had the same @TheFirstOHN but I do one half 90% cauliflower for me and other end mostly pasta for hubby! Makes it a little more healthy (or so it makes me feel!)

SocksRock · 09/01/2019 19:40

OMG macaroni cheese is my big downfall as well. I managed it this week by weighing the pasta for the children so the leftovers were minimal and training them to scrape their plates into the food bin so it's gone before I can pick at it.

I was planning to walk back to the P&R as well but I left work a bit too late. Which is annoying as the return fare is £2.60 and the single fare is £2.20.

Tomorrow I'm not in the office, it's a travelling-round-the-county day, which is minimal opportunity for steps. So plan is to run in the morning before work, and HIIT video after work.

SocksRock · 10/01/2019 09:30

Did the run. And my meeting has been cancelled so I'm going to do the walk to and from the P&R again rather than use the bus.

I have bought a slimfast drink for lunch. Not sure about this, but thought I'd give it a go....

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 10/01/2019 12:29

Ooh I love macaroni cheese, alas it doesn't like me so I don't eat it anymore On the plus side, it's the pasta that I can't eat so I still get to have cheese sauce I'm one of those heathens that has cauliflower cheese with their xmas dinner

You're on a roll with the exercise Socks I had to force myself outside this morning to walk, pretty chilly here today. At least my line dancing class is back on tonight (Finally! Yippee!), indoors with heating and a bar..... much more my level of exercise Wink

slalomsuki · 11/01/2019 18:14

So far so good. Managed to stay there or thereabouts in my calorie count and it's shocking what I eat. Coffee and toast seem to be a theme.

Not been on the scales yet but have taken my belt in a notch which has to be a good sign.

What I can't do is sync my walking to the app to get the calorie benefit. I can enter it manually but can't get it to do it automatically. Any ideas?

drspouse · 11/01/2019 19:01

Oh I love mac and cheese too, we had it today - but I don't get a look in with leftovers! Also I make sure I keep the cheese down, but do it with cauliflower or broccoli.
Two school runs (all of 5 mins each way) have done for me today, cough still awful.

MajesticWhine · 11/01/2019 23:35

Massively off the rails tonight with Chinese and wine - no idea of calorie count but just guessed. But I'm hoping the impact is not too terrible. I did have a busy day and walked a fair bit. And will try to get back on track tomorrow.

TheFirstOHN · 12/01/2019 10:31

I have done ten consecutive days now without overeating, which I'm pleased about. The bonus is that I've lost over 4kg.

I'm not great at sticking to things once the novelty wears off, so I need to motivate myself to keep going with this.

TheFirstOHN · 12/01/2019 10:35

What I can't do is sync my walking to the app to get the calorie benefit.

I opened MapMyWalk, entered my details, went into Apps & Devices and connected it to MFP.
Then opened MFP, went into Apps & Devices" found MapMyWalk and connected it.
