Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me - not overweight but would like to lose a few pounds?
I am 5’ 3” and weigh 9stone. I look ok, but def have lots of wobbly bits despite running and a couple of hiit sessions a week.
Would love to get to 8st 7lb, but my love of wine and salty snacks does not help! Eat mostly healthily apart from this.
Have been using happyscale to weigh every day, managed to get to 8st 11.5lb earlier in the month but now back to where I started 🙄.
Any tips from anyone? First world problem I know!

That's better - 8 stone 9.9 today Grin - and the first time I've had a single figure after the 8 for a year!

Whispering it's probably just a bit of water weight and will all balance out in the end. I measure as well as my waistline doesn't lie to me as often as the scales do!

Thisismyhappyface · 02/07/2018 09:49

Period is due, and so far this morning I have eaten 3 slices of toast and honey... Off to try and run off some carbs now, but it is so hot here!
I have a triathlon this weekend, so will be carb loading at the end of the week- hopefully a few sensible lunch choices will balance it out...

FireF · 02/07/2018 11:29

It was my first proper "diet" day yesterday and I seem to have gone from 9.11 to 9.07 overnight Shock I presume it's just water weight?

I'm also due my period tomorrow so will be trying to keep myself occupied with work/ yoga so I don't eat all the food.

Westwing1 · 02/07/2018 16:58

Bottle of Shloer Wild Elderflower and Grape in the fridge as a wine substitute. Half the calories of Sauvignon Blanc and hopefully will stop me making 'bad choices' at 10 pm. Haven't tried Shloer for a couple of years, hoping it has improved. I will report back!

lapenguin · 02/07/2018 17:08

Oh god I do need some help! I only need to lose maybe half a stone and to tone (though 1-2stone would be preferred) but I find it so hard! I love food and hate working out! I'm changing my hours to fit into three (and a half every fourth week) days, ds works nights so maybe if I old go for a run or something when he first gets in then he could go to bed for the day? It's just motivation! And help not snacking at work... So hard when someone always buys sweets or chocolates!

Westwing1 · 02/07/2018 19:24

Shloer sparkling wild elderflower and grape - pretty good, drinking chilled from a wine glass to make it feel like wine, and much better than I expected. I think it was about £2 a bottle. My DH prefers elderflower but thought the Shloer was fine too.

Welcome to all the new posters - everyone welcome, whatever the scales say - this thread is all about trying to lose those last few pounds that will just make us feel better....but that our bodies are desperately trying to hold onto!
Had a good day today, but feeling really bloated, think it’s the amount of wine and rubbish consumed at the weekend. Feeling a bit bleurgh about it all today, I feel like I’m on a never ending very dull cycle of making good choices and lots of exercise but then scuppering any chance of a loss due to rubbish choices half the time.
And also that little demon that says far too often ‘you’re a healthy weight, you look slim enough blah blah!’
Anyway, that’s enough of my Monday moaning 🙄

quackaday · 02/07/2018 20:58

I am also on the shloer tonight and today is the first Monday in a while that I haven't caved and snacked whilst the kids had their tea.

I totally get the same thing - the little voice that tells me that I'm not overweight, I can treat myself, it's fine etc etc! All of which is true, but...if I want results I need to change that way of thinking.

There was a mum at the birthday party I took my son to yesterday. She's the same height as me and is about 8 years older and she has my build, when I'm a good 10lbs lighter! I kept looking at her so enviously! But it's keeping me motivated! As is this thread!

Did 20 minute Pilates/cardio workout (bought an app) and have stuck to 1200 cals today

Alicatz66 · 02/07/2018 21:25

winealot I've been Monday ish too.. started counting calories on my Fitbit .. not sure if a good idea or not ... I've eaten healthy but I'm bloody starving now !!!! And I still had 1700 calories ! Last time I did low carb though I was moody and couldn't sleep .. ended up going downstairs for bread at 3.00am ! Didn't go to exercise class either ! No wine though so not too bad .. I don't like sweet drinks so I've just had tea .... inward and upward tomorrow x

OohOohMrPeevly · 03/07/2018 06:54

I ate and drank far too much bad stuff at the weekend so I'm postponing my weigh in until next Sunday. Well done to all the losers though.
These last 5 pounds or so are definitely the toughest and sometimes it feels like one step forward and too back. As always I will keep on keeping on in the hope of getting under 9 stone.

cathyandclare · 03/07/2018 07:59

I stayed at my parent's house last night and on Mum's scales i'm 6lb lighter!! I've been strict on the carbs so think I may have lost a pound or two ( I was up and down peeing all night) but surely not that much when I've LC for years.

If any of you want a confidence boost I recommend circa 1977 Boots scales on a wobbly carpet Grin

Roxie33 · 03/07/2018 11:36

I'm 6ft, and have major 9 years of mummy jelly belly and it's not getting any smaller and it's starting to get me down, I enjoy my food way too much I work 2 jobs so not as if I'm sat down all day. I've tried the gym, I've just had knee surgery so wanting to build my knee strength back up and tone up. Any ideas! Xx

Westwing1 · 03/07/2018 12:43

Hi Roxie, my DH had complete knee replacement years ago and has been advised to use cross trainer. Treadmill is not allowed. He also uses rowing machine. His physio gave him lots of specific exercise to build up the knee. So, just been measured 3 times and sadly I am no longer 5ft 6 but have shrank to 5ft 5, my BMI has swung in the wrong direction, my weight goals are out by 4 or 7 lbs I think. Never mind, 9st 7lbs by 14th July is still my first step.

quackaday · 05/07/2018 10:16

Something I'm doing that I thought might help others is I've set reminders on my phone eg drink water, no snacking, no alcohol, and move! I've set these at times I know I get forgetful or tempted eg when I get in from school run the reminder pings to say don't snack. So far so good, I've had a really good week managed to avoid snacking and have stuck to all my pledges yay. Scales actually say I've lost 2lbs however I know that come Sunday (as I do like to have a drink or two at the weekend, I'm not going to deny myself that!) it'll probably be more like 1lb lost. 1lb a week is good though especially when you've not got a lot to lose...I think?

cathyandclare · 05/07/2018 11:10

Good trick Quack although I'm pretty quick with the mute button!

Back on my home scales and I'm a more believable 2lb down... but small amounts are fine when we're moving within the healthy BMI range that'll do me. Looking forward to getting into the single digit pounds, 2 more to go for that.

OohOohMrPeevly · 05/07/2018 21:41

Cathyandclare - we have two sets of scales here - one in the bathroom and one in the en suite. One set of our scales sounds like your mums and I always use these ones if I've overindulged. If I've been strict with myself I weigh on the more accurate ones. I don't think I've lost anything this week as I have PMT and I really bloat which I hate. It goes on for about 10 days a month and I have to wear baggier stuff.

Thisismyhappyface · 06/07/2018 07:07

I've been pretty good but his week so far, but last night ended up falling into the pasta and wine headfirst....
Need to carb load tomorrow for triathlon Sunday, so hoping it won't all be in vain Confused
This weather is keeping me focused- not looking great in shorts at the moment!

beela · 06/07/2018 10:43

Hello, can I join in? I am 5'3.5 and 61.5kg. I have recently lost 3 stone and am back in the healthy bmi range for the first time in probably at least a decade (I didn't weigh myself for a long long time).

I don't want to lose much more... Just enough to get myself into the middle of that healthy bmi. I need to cut back on the wine and cake! And hopefully a bit of accountability will help me to do that.

quackaday · 06/07/2018 11:23

Good luck for your triathlon @Thisismyhappyface ! Bit hot though 😥😥

I've been really good this week but now it's Friday this is where it all unravels. I'm weighing 8st 7 this morning. I often fluctuate between 8.7 and 8.10. So whilst this is good, I am anticipating that after the weekend its unlikely I will still be at 8.7. (Overall goal is 8.2 ish) What's good is that dh is calorie counting at the mo (well he always does as he's into weights so he's always either bulking or cutting) but anyway at the minute he's on a cut and so he's not eating as much as usual which is helping me!

Good weekends everyone! See you at the weigh in on Sunday 😬

Thisismyhappyface · 06/07/2018 11:25

Thanks Quack dreading it TBH- hate running in the heat 😥

MrsSteptoe · 06/07/2018 11:44

What on earth happens to your shape mid-fifties??!!!!

I'm 5'2" (or probably a little under), and trying to get from 8st8lb down to about 8st3lb - it's taken me a few months to get down from a starting point of 9st.

But a hitherto flat stomach has suddenly become a blob, and while my saddlebags and legs generally have always been a weak point, they have suddenly turned into horrible playdough flobby things. From arse to toenail.

I am a lemon standing on two playdough sausages.

I don't know if I'll be a regular poster on this thread, but it's nice to know that there is a community of vanity pound losers, because it always seems ridiculous to discuss slimming when I'm slap bang in the middle of a healthy range.

I was thinking about building up to a ten minute run every day (from a starting point of RIDICULOUS unfitness). Powerwalk, jog, powerwalk, jog in minute-rotations, build up the jogging bit. Anyone done anything like that? I need to start with something very manageable, otherwise I won't do it. (I won't do it till the heat drops anyway.)

quackaday · 06/07/2018 13:00

Yes mrssteptoe I have fallen badly out of the habit, but last winter I started running in exactly the way you described. After a few weeks I increased the active running time and after a few weeks more I could run/jog for 30 minutes no stopping! Couldn't do it now, too hot!

I'm impressed you've maintained the weight you are into your 50s tbh! I'm 38 and the same height and my weight is creeping up and up 😬 determined to nip it in the bud

Winealot · 06/07/2018 13:21

I am away this weekend, so weighed this morning - 8st 13.5lb so a small loss since Sunday.
This weekend will be shocking diet wise, I’m not going to pretend otherwise but hoping if I get straight back on it Monday it won’t be too bad!!
Just keep trying with the running Mrssteptoe, I did c25k 4 odd years ago and got the bug!
Still the weight is a constant battle to keep in check however 🙄.
Good luck for all the weigh ins on Sunday x

Whisperingwinds · 06/07/2018 19:23

I weighed in this morning as my holiday is just a week away - I have lost one pound which isn’t bad when I don’t have too much to lose - now praying it stays off - this weather is definitely helping with my motivation and diet.

MrsSteptoe · 06/07/2018 20:23

Thanks for all encouraging running comments. As much for my health as for weight, tbh. Smile
