Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me - not overweight but would like to lose a few pounds?
I am 5’ 3” and weigh 9stone. I look ok, but def have lots of wobbly bits despite running and a couple of hiit sessions a week.
Would love to get to 8st 7lb, but my love of wine and salty snacks does not help! Eat mostly healthily apart from this.
Have been using happyscale to weigh every day, managed to get to 8st 11.5lb earlier in the month but now back to where I started 🙄.
Any tips from anyone? First world problem I know!

Winealot I think whether they're willing to admit it or not, the majority of women care about their weight. I once read something on here about women's obsession with dieting and in one OP's post she said she'd describe it to her DH as a competition and the thinnest woman in the room was the winner. Sad but possibly true. I also read an article by author Marian Keyes where she was talking about her success as a writer but she said that for all the riches and acclaim it had given her, in her view nothing trumps being a size 8.

adaisy1394 · 29/06/2018 07:08

I agree, you really can’t out train a bad diet!! My average week of running at the moment is around 45 - 50 miles but still nothing is shifting as I keep rewarding myself with food!!!

I think OP’s Sunday suggestion to help reduce sinful Saturday’s is ideal as weekends are my downfall too, when I buy and eat most of my bad food so a Sunday weigh would encourage me to be much more mindful.

Pythone · 29/06/2018 07:40

So much for not eating so much in the hot weather... managed to eat most of a Domino's pizza last night!

cathyandclare · 29/06/2018 07:45

So are we all signing in for action on Sunday? Excellent! I've got 8 weeks before my summer hols that's surely time to lose those 9-10lbs?

I'm 50 and find that the weight just doesn't come off like it used to. If I'd crept up a bit, a week of cutting back used to sort me out, now it's going to need a military campaign!!

The good news is, I'm having a tooth gum implant on Friday, so that should stop me guzzling for a while!

adaisy1394 · 29/06/2018 07:57

What’s everyone’s action plan/ strategy? I think calorie counting will be the way for me as anything restricting entire food groups just isn’t sustainable for me!

Going to use MFP religiously rather than guess nutrition content losely like I have been.

cathyandclare · 29/06/2018 08:05

I've low-carbed for years and will continue to cut out sugar and starchy stuff- but following a bit more of a mediterranean approach so more berries/tomatoes/peppers/seeds and less butter/cheese/cream than I've been having on a traditional high fat/low carb plan. I hope that'll allow me to decrease the overall calories and lose this blubber around my waist.

quackaday · 29/06/2018 09:53

Since pledging to join you all and really start making an effort I have somehow gained 3 lbs 😞 (I do have my period though...but I don't normally gain as much during that). Makes my goal a bit further away but also makes me more determined!

Winealot · 29/06/2018 11:18

Think I will try and use MFP to track, lots of exercise and make an attempt to cut back on the lovely cold white stuff! Also, keep the carbs down, can’t do no carb as it makes me too miserable.
Although am hungover today so want to eat all the bread, cheese and bad things but am trying to resist!
Also, have a very sociable weekend ahead which no doubt means too much drinking which will lead to too much food.
Wish I could just be content as I am!

Ooo I've found my people! Mind if I join you? I'm 5'3.5", (and the. 5 IS important as Liquorice said!) And currently 8 stone 10. I was 9 stone 3 a few months ago, and I want to be 8 stone 7 or preferably a bit less.

I've been tracking on MFP and weight training 4 times a week, I'm not really bothered that my weight is going down quite slowly as I'm hopefully gaining muscle too! I've been weighing on Sundays and measuring my waist too.

My goal is to comfortable wear a pair of size 8 jeans I bought in 1993 - they are a very different size 8 to the ones I've bought recently so vanity sizing is real! I can do them up at the moment but not actually move in them.

My downfall is hangovers too - I've got quite good at saving up gin calories, but then it all goes horribly wrong the day after when all I want is carbs.

rosewater09 · 30/06/2018 23:11

I am glad I found this post, mind if I join? I am 5'3.5 and 8.9 stone and would really like to get down to 8 stone. My frame is really tiny and so any added pounds or wobbly parts look awful. My goals are to finally get a flat stomach and tone up all over.

I've just started working out again, barre class, HIIT and weight lifting and so my goal is to keep this up. I am forever starting a workout program and then letting it fall by the side, which is annoying because I do really feel much better overall when I am working out.

With my diet, I need to cut down on sugar and eat solid meals. I WFH so find that I am grazing all day instead of eating proper meals. Or I won't want to bother with cooking breakfast or lunch and so I won't eat until dinner and then at dinner I overeat. So that needs to change. Just did a big shop and picked up lots of lean meat, green veg and berries so I can start the week right.

Ofthread · 30/06/2018 23:15

Oh gawd, someone else on here is my height and a stone less. Maybe I should go to a real heifer thread.

thefishwhocouldwish · 01/07/2018 00:05

I'm a smidgeon under 5ft 4 and currently 8st 8lbs, having lost 17lbs in the last two months. I'm aiming to get back down to 8st 3lbs by the middle of August. I already look miles better but there's still room for improvement. I'm doing 5:2 and avoiding sugar most days.

EleanorAbernathy · 01/07/2018 06:53

Ofthread I'd be happy to be your weight if I was your height! Unfortunately I'm a shortarse and every pound really shows.

No change in my weigh-in today, but I was a bit carby yesterday despite being within calories so it's probably water weight. I might weigh again tomorrow and eat less carbs today to make sure!

pinkpopcorn · 01/07/2018 07:03

I’m 5ft 4 and currently 8st 10, ideally would like to be 8st 3 but would be happy to be at 8st 5 for now! Think my problem is cider, going out for dinners and work, I have to eat as part of my job, so will have to focus on cutting out the dinners and cider for now.

Will get back into MFP too

waterlego6064 · 01/07/2018 07:03

You need to get lifting! You can really change your body shape with resistance work. So much so that many people find the number on the scale becomes irrelevant. I’m 5’3” and 9.5 stone with 25% body fat. According to BMI, I should be more like 8 stone at my height, but I look much better at this weight.

waterlego6064 · 01/07/2018 07:05

This is how 9.5 stone looks on me:

Sunday morning weigh in #1: 10st 2.5lb

Would like to be down to 9st 10lb by end of July. Need to knock the wine and accompanying nibbles on the head...

FauxFox · 01/07/2018 07:36

Waterlego you look great! How did you start doing weight training? Do you do it in the gym or classes? How did you know what to do?? I run and love it but a lot of the motivation is being able to be outside... I’m 40 and think to maintain my figure I’m going to need to do more weights as I get older...

waterlego6064 · 01/07/2018 07:46

Thank you Fauxfox! Yes, I think sound more resistance work can help as we age and find it harder to keep the pounds off. And of course there is a benefit to be had in terms of strengthening the bones, so for women in particular, lifting weights can be really beneficial.

I got into it via Body Pump (if tou’re Not familiar, it’s a weight-lifting class, either 45 mins or an hour going through all the major muscle groups. The emphasis is on building muscle endurance, so it’s lots of reps of lighter weights. I also used a PT for a while who did a lot of weights work with me- more strength/power work than endurance (so heavier weights and fewer reps).

I am now teaching Body Pump twice a week and then use the gym a couple of times a week. I don’t do any cardio, apart from an occasional 10 mins on a spinning bike.

waterlego6064 · 01/07/2018 07:47

But for clarification, although I don’t do any formal cardio, I do raise my HR significantly when lifting weights!

user1471451866 · 01/07/2018 07:53

I'm 5'3" and weigh 9st 2. I'd like to weigh 8st 7. How refreshing to find this thread, if I ever mention losing a bit more weight (already lost 2 - 3 st) i get told I've already lost too much and it's time to stop.

Arjunsummer · 01/07/2018 08:07

I'm in please! 5ft 4 and 9st 6. Want to get back to 9st as I've put on 6lb since Christmas. Have dug out my Fitbit as I find the more I walk the less I eat.

cathyandclare · 01/07/2018 08:10

Sunday weigh in 8st 13. Aiming for 8 st 7 by the end of July and 8st 4 by my holiday in 8 weeks time.

Will do weights more consistently and cut down on booze, nuts and constant grazing like rosewater

quackaday · 01/07/2018 08:37

8st 10 for me today (mid-week I was weighing 8 13?). So at least I'm back to the start.

I'm going to up my exercise this week. No alcohol during the week either and NO SNACKING. I can't quite bring myself to go back to MFP yet (it sends me into a weird tailspin where if I go over on cals one day I then think oh fine then I'll just go way overboard). I've tracked before so I roughly know what 1200-1500 looks like and providing I keep my exercise up it should make a difference...I think.

FauxFox · 01/07/2018 08:38

I think I will always want to run Waterlego and i'm not really a fan of classes... I expect Youtube will be my friend and have some ideas on things I can do at home - maybe kettle bells or something?? I really have no idea about any exercise type things!
