Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me - not overweight but would like to lose a few pounds?
I am 5’ 3” and weigh 9stone. I look ok, but def have lots of wobbly bits despite running and a couple of hiit sessions a week.
Would love to get to 8st 7lb, but my love of wine and salty snacks does not help! Eat mostly healthily apart from this.
Have been using happyscale to weigh every day, managed to get to 8st 11.5lb earlier in the month but now back to where I started 🙄.
Any tips from anyone? First world problem I know!

I just can't stop eating. Wtf is wrong with me?! Any tips to get started?

Alicatz66 · 12/09/2018 14:02

9.4 ..... because I ate Carbs .... I'm 52 and the weight just sticks to me ! Doing ok today. Purition shake and chicken salad so far

Westwing1 · 12/09/2018 14:31

Same here with the carbs Alicatz, 9.3 today (gained 3) and having to strip it back to water, protein and veg. Also ventured on the x trainer in my desperation.

EleanorAbernathy · 12/09/2018 17:48

Well it went completely wrong for me last week so jumping straight back on it!
Went to a festival last weekend and successfully and comfortably wore my goal trousers for the first day - then it was all downhill from there. Got home and had a 3 day hangover so ate all the carbs, then one of our cats died, resulting in drinking all the wine and eating all the cake. And pizza. And KFC.

I finally faced the scales this morning- amazingly I am only 8 stone 9 but I want to be 8 stone 6 again! I'm about to do a workout Grin

Alicatz66 · 12/09/2018 18:07

I'm bloody useless !!! Only have 4 pounds to lose ... no carbs all day .. then all my trains were cancelled so had to go to a different station .. waiting for DD to pick me up and having a cheering scone with jam and butter ! .. I used to be able to low carb but it seems to make me cranky these days ... going to give calorie counting a whirl for a bit .. do 3 runs a week and a rebound class on Sunday .. plus get off and stay off the wine .. onward and upward vanity pounders !

Westwing1 · 12/09/2018 18:26

Hi Eleanor, it's great you haven't gained much and are getting back on it, the 3 lbs I've gained are bugging me, bras uncomfortable, skinny jeans straining.

145 tips to get started, I will try:

write down your goals, weigh or measure yourself, try on item of clothing you want to fit in and can't. Pick a diet plan or food rules, you know the foods that make you gain (for me it's all the obvious carbs, crisps, cheese and wine Grin), menu plan, clear out larder, keep a food and drink diary. Keep busy and stay out of the kitchen.

As Alicatz likes to say onward and upwards vanity pounders.

145234LJ · 13/09/2018 16:18

@Westwing1 I think my problem might be that I can't stay out the kitchen - SAHM to preschoolers at the moment so I have to prepare 3 meals and 2 snacks per day, plus probably 2 times in the supermarket each week and everything is just wayyy too tempting. Our lives revolve a lot around food. I used to have no trouble low carbons before kids and that's what works for me. Arghhh!! 😩

Octopus37 · 14/09/2018 18:34

I was 8st9 yesterday. TBH haven't been very good recently, have been eating carbs and just trying no to go too mad overall, also have been a bit of stressed. Could be a flash in the pan, but aiming to maintain this weight. A couple (few) more pounds would be great, but I would rather maintain and stay where I am longterm than put loads back on again and struggle to lose it.

padpadmama · 14/09/2018 19:41

Hi ladies, new to MN and would love to join the thread if ok!

I'm a FTM with a 9wk old baby. Weight pre-pregnancy is 8st4 (I'm 5'3") and gained 35lbs whilst pregnant, lost majority except the last 7 pounds or so. I'm exclusively BF so hungry all the time! But thankfully able to exercise 6 days a week (mix of BBG circuit that I do at home and spin classes whilst DH watches baby), also walking around 10000+ steps a day.

I don't want to restrict calories too much in case it affects milk supply but finding last few pounds really hard to shift. Wondering if anyone experienced similar weight loss challenges whilst BF? Need motivation!!!

cathyandclare · 15/09/2018 14:19

Padpad When I breast fed the weight came off within 4 months without restriction (but being sensible and not gorging IYKWIM) You've done brilliantly to get down so far, I bet it'll fall off before Christmas with your exercise and breastfeeding.

I, meanwhile, continue to hover between 8 9 and 8 10, with no such excuse!!! I've been super-strict and training loads too. Frustrating!

padpadmama · 15/09/2018 20:33

@cathyandclare thanks and so good to know it does come off without being too restrictive! Were you counting calories? Or doing low carb?

I try and stay around 2000/2200 but some days (eg yesterday) had well over 3000 😆 Just so hungry all the time, especially first thing in the morning. I'm trying to have large breakfasts and lunches but a small dinner (eg yoghurt and some granola) as I'm in bed by 9:30pm 🙈

Also having huge boobs means that none of my clothes fit 'right' - so depressing haha but god I do love the baby's little face when he's just been fed, so makes it all worthwhile in the end I guess ☺️

Octopus37 · 16/09/2018 20:15

Wow I remember breastfeeding hunger, as others have said I'm sure it will come off really quickly. You sound as if you are doing amazingly. My 8st9 the other day was a flash in the pan, up 2 pounds so going to try to do better this week. Unfortunately I just want to eat cake and comfort food at the moment, trying to reign it in.

Alicatz66 · 16/09/2018 20:28

I'm leaving you vanity pounders !! Good luck out there ! .. my DPs daughter has been diagnosed with anorexia this week .. I'm 52 ... I've decided life is too short and I fancy a cake !! ..

Westwing1 · 17/09/2018 08:54

Oh Alicatz what terrible news for your family. Best of luck and sending a big hug.

Gah81 · 23/09/2018 15:03

Checking in after a while. Have been trying to tone up (about to do some pilates) and also cut out the wine, while trying to eat more healthily. Am down to 55.5kg (am 5ft7) and my little chin underhang is noticeably less. So I am pleased! Now focusing on toning up some more and continuing to eat well.

millionaireshortie · 29/09/2018 09:27

Anyone still trying here? How's it going?

Chocolateflake · 29/09/2018 09:42

Just weighed in at 9 stone 7, heaviest in years and feeling Sad. A real shorty at 5'2" and age against me at 55! Aiming to shed 1 -2 lb a week over the next 3 months. There, I've said it now, so will have to do something Grin

Winealot · 29/09/2018 12:09

I started this thread and am still here! Slowly easing my way back into running and healthier eating after the lovely long summer.
Haven’t weighed in for a while, am guessing by my clothes am around the 9 stone mark, possibly a pound or 2 heavier.
Historically, I’m never as bothered this time of year as no bikini to think about and easier to hide extra pounds in jeans and jumpers!
What will no doubt happen is I will gain another couple of pounds, hate my body and then will get back in the zone in time to undo it all at Christmas!
And then in the spring, will be on a mission to lose that magical half a stone in time for my holiday....god, I bore myself sometimes 🙄

OP posts:
juneau · 29/09/2018 13:04

Can I join? I'm about the same as the OP (5'4" and around 9 stone), and I'd love half a stone. My body (underneath it's plump jacket Grin), is small, so I can't carry much weight without looking chubby and right now my clothes are tight and I'm unfit and just feel sluggish and a bit rubbish and I've been ignoring the situation for about a year now and just hoping it would fix itself ... as if ...

So this week I started a food diary, which has been quite eye-opening. My daily calorie intake is between 1600-1700 typically, but much of that is crap - chocolate, crisps, rice pudding, etc. Before starting the diary I was kidding myself that my diet was better - this has forced me to confront every toffee and square of chocolate that I'm eating and so it's been useful - and sobering. And speaking of sober - I can now see why alcohol is called 'empty calories' - yesterday I was up 100 cals on the day because I had a glass of wine. Of course, I still wanted that 100 cals of food - so the wine was in addition to what I'd normally eat.

As for working out, I've managed 3 days this week and am trying to take some exercise every day. It's three weeks until we go away for half-term and I want to feel confident in my swimsuit by the pool, so if I can drop a few pounds by then that would be great.

KimchiLaLa · 29/09/2018 23:56

I'd like to join please! I'm 1/2 stone heavier post baby. Not fat, my old clothes still fit - but tighter, and I know all my muscle tone has gone. Am v bloated ATM due to period. Want to get back to healthy eating and generally feeling lighter...

DryWhiteagainW · 30/09/2018 09:43

Can I join?
I’m 5ft3, 51. Weight about 9.5 now. Best weight is 9st.
Have always been a healthy eater and never overweight really.
In2012 i was 9.10 so I did Dukan with incredible results, went down to 8 1/2 stone. I found it easy....never hungry and I like meat. Looked a bit skinny but super lean.
I exercise approx 3/4 times a week and am on my feet a lot at work.
The weight has just crept up a little every year and I don’t like it.
I put weight on my bum and hips and my skirts and jeans are all feeling a bit snug.
A couple of years after I lost the weight my DD was diagnosed with an eating disorder, now she’s back to a healthy weight so I have to be careful to not diet or talk about weight in front of her which makes Dukan tricky.
My biggest weakness is wine.....on a big night out I can easily drink a bottle, might as well eat a whole cake when you look at the calories.
My plan is to not drink during the week (which I don’t really) , go steady at weekends (which is really hard) and cut out the carbs that have crept back into my diet.

Gah81 · 30/09/2018 18:36

Have ended a (decadent) weekend at 56kg. But have done my batch cooking for the week (beef stir fry, halloumi with roast veg) and about to make my overnight oats for tomorrow before doing some pilates.

Alcohol free week planned for me!

DryWhiteagainW · 30/09/2018 19:48

I’ve done some batch cooking too. Think it’s the best thing.
Veg soup that looks like algae for work lunches. Shock
Egg things for breakfasts.
I think I’ve had a good weekend.
No booze. Lots of water. No seconds. No snacking. It’s BORING
Cycled 20k up and down hills today. Bloody knackered.

KimchiLaLa · 30/09/2018 22:50

Those who batch cook - how do you do it f r the week without going off? I usually find by weds the food is starting to taste a bit funny. Do you freeze?

DryWhiteagainW · 01/10/2018 07:42

Yup. I freeze. I also prep and put in plastic boxes so I can just shove in slow cooker before work
