Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Well done everyone. I’ve slightly lost the plot yesterday and today but that’s ok, I think my body recovering so iI’m running with it. Last week was a touch ropey too to be honest but again I’m refusing to stress about it and will get back on track tomorrow.

My periods changed but have been weird for years to be fair as am firmly perimenopausal. Recent procedure means I’ve been bleeding for 11 days plus due on today so goodness knows how that works. Sorry, TMI!

fezzesarecool · 19/08/2018 12:12

Yes, I was going to ask this too!

I’ve always been heavy but it’s been extreme as in flooding, in the last 4 years but I thought it was because I’ve had kids. They’ve always been painful to the point of having to take time off work and going to the Drs about it.

The last 3/4 months it’s much better and less painful and a much more normal heavy rather than flooding and not wanting to leave the house because of the embarrassment.

Definitely a bonus NSV for me 😄

fezzesarecool · 19/08/2018 13:16

😄 Just finished Week 2 Run 3 of c25K (am doing it more frequently as my normal exercise routines have been 5 day’s a week and I’m finding the runs very comfortable).

I think the full 3 minutes of running week 3 will be a big challenge for me and would be pleased if I get a good start on that before I come home.

Then a think about if I want to carry it on, or if it’ll be something I do when I can do my normal thing. I’m definitely enjoying that I’m doing exercise but not sure that this would be a activity that I would be passionate about like some of you that are lucky to have found your thing.

Definitely a NSV that all my low impact exercise has definitely paid off and given me a very basic fitness level to be able to have this sort of start. Back in March I could walk up the stairs without being winded and when I first did my DVDs it took me a month to attempt jogging in the spot The that lasted literally 2 seconds!

BreakingSad · 19/08/2018 14:11

Chesty my cycles although not regular, have decreased from 33-35 days to 27-29 days.

I'm up 2lbs, had a stressful week and went completely off plan with no exercise or food logging. My Dm spent a couple of days in hospital, she ok now but gave us a fright. My toothache is still intermittent and typical I had no pain when I saw the dentist, but they think it's an old filling causing the problem. Also felt completely rundown this week, I know my iron levels are low, so trying to build them back up.

Today is the first day I actually feel myself and able to get back on it. Sorry for the vent, hope you all have a lovely Sunday Smile

Stripeybum · 19/08/2018 16:15

Right, strange question here.

Has anyone noticed a definite change in a particular part of your body? I've not eaten pasta or rice for past 6-7 weeks. Only had bread a handful of times and then only say one slice.

My ankles which were cankles have suddenly appeared. It is so bizarre. I don't have swollen feet either.

I know this is a teeny thing but I'm absolutely delighted.

Do you think cutting them out could have helped or is it just coincidental?

Oh and my cycles are mental. Went to every 24 days when at my heaviest now not had one since started dieting. But then I am 51 😔 Although have no other menopausal symptoms

Xxx

PostNotInHaste · 19/08/2018 16:45

It’s not a tent thing at all Stripey! My ankles are much thinner these days and don’t swell anywhere near as much in the heat. I guess it could be the carbs or just your body coping better with less weight, hard to say. If pushed to get off the fence I would land on the side of it not being coincidental.

Well done Fezzes! I still hated running ( well fast walking really!) at the end of week 2....

Breaking that sounds bloody rough Flowers Really glad your Mum is ok now and sorry you’re feeling rough. I need to get back in the game this week and am impressed you’ve managed it on a Sunday! Am hating having my exercise regime disrupted but know I need a bit longer before getting back to it fully. Hopefully a better week for us both.

fezzesarecool · 19/08/2018 17:34

PostNotInHaste We’ll see! I’m thinking about doing it up until either the end of the summer holidays/dd’s done her reception induction. I probably would like it a bit more if I could do it on the treadmill with the tv on! But due to time constraints and money this is the only way I can attempt it for now.

I’m definitely going to be trying out the 30 shred at some point. I’ve been watching level one and that looks enough to push me and I’ve seen there’s a beginner’s shred too. Not sure when to start that though, it’ll either be November when I know time-wise I can do 30 day’s straight or a new year thing. I think this dvd will definitely be great for strength and toning.

But I think exercise plan for September through to March will be my DVDs as usual, maybe running on none dvd days, Clubercise in half term/busy weeks. Oh and trying out the dance class. (I’m saying March as then will try out new things again)

With any luck out of all that lot I can work out what fitness thing I want to do when I get to maintenance and if not I’ll have a good fitness level to kept experimenting.

BreakingSad · 19/08/2018 22:24

Post it is hard when you can't exercise, I'm at a lost and itching to get back to it. I may not always hit my food targets, but my exercise is just part of my life now. Hope it's not too long before your out running again.

MagicKeysToAsda · 20/08/2018 08:18

1.5 lbs off for me this week - yahoo, finally making some progress after sticking, then gaining on hol and needing to get that back off, so am really pleased (especially as I tried really, really hard on food this week because I missed 2 runs due to no childcare).

5.5lbs to five stone...would love to get 3 of the lbs gone by start of term, but let's see...

Have a great week everyone - Post hope you're feeling a bit stronger each day, new joiners hope you find foods and ways of doing things that feel good for you, and everyone else (including me) wishing us a bit of extra energy to KOKO. Anyone got fun things lined up this week? Tractors how is the job?

FATEdestiny · 20/08/2018 08:19

Week 34:
Start weight 17st 8.5
Current weight 10st 11.5
Total loss 6st 11 (95lb)
Weekly loss: 1.5lb

I love my running routine. I can't wait for the children to go back to school so I can start on longer runs again.

Currently running a daily 5K in about 32-33 minutes (although 31m 01s is my personal best). I prefer a 10k distance but time issues have stopped that over the summer holidays. Recently I've taken to running my 5k twice in a day, adding an extra evening run.

I find it interesting that I never used to think I had time to exercise. But it's become obvious that when I really want to get out there and do it, I always manage to create the time in my day to do it.

I tried the 30 Day Shred videos alongside my running a few months ago. I think I need someone with me showing me how to correctly do these exercises though. Even though I tried to copy exactly, I managed to twist and/or over extend my knee on one of the exercises. I don't want to risk my running, so I stopped.

I sweat much, much more on a 5k run anyway, so I reckon I use more calories running for the same amount of time. Having said that, if I had the funds spare I'd definitely get a gym membership and do some weights. No spare cash though, so running it is because that's free!

MindBodyChocolate · 20/08/2018 11:32

Stripey I noticed the same thing about my ankles today!! I’ve cut out refined carbs too - perhaps we’re not retaining so much water... I don’t know! Happy though.

strawberrypig · 20/08/2018 11:35

My first gain, only half a pound but still Sad Not as bad as it could be as AF appeared and I've had massive water retention this week. I am off work this week and everything we do seems to be food related, l have decided to deal with this by eating what I like but limiting portions. This weekend we were away for the weekend for SILs landmark birthday, going out for brunch was a little tricky as everyone was tucking into full English but I went for the vegan option (avocado, whole meal toast, mushroom, hummus etc.) so think I limited the damage.

I am having to overthink this as the three month mark is where I normally go wrong on my diet and fall off the wagon. I have lost a chunk of weight, think in"deserve" time eating normally, pig out, feel bad and so pig out more, never climb back onto wagon until next diet. And repeat! I think this time I have cracked it, I have changed my mind set know that I am not capable of just having the one week eating crap. Junk food is more addictive than anything for me, I am not craving it at the moment so why risk it!

LarryFreakinStylinson · 20/08/2018 11:39

Hi all, taking a tentative step into your world. I currently weigh 230lb which is 16stone 8ish and I desperately need to do something so I hope you don’t mind me joining in ☺️ How is everyone losing weight? I’m planning on logging on MFP as I’ve tried slimming world previously and I get bored after a couple of weeks.

fezzesarecool · 20/08/2018 12:02

LarryFreakinStylinson Welcome! We’re all doing different things on here

I do calorie counting with mfp as I knew it was going to be too much for me to stick to a strict diet.

I actually started off with exercise and after a few weeks found that had a positive knock on affect to food.

I got my portion control into focus first with mfp and then I slowly started getting healthier meals in. What I like that if I. feel like having junk then I can as long as it’s in my calories but I’ve got that down to 20% of the time now.

Even now I’m on holiday I’ve adjusted mfp so the diet is more relaxed but hopefully I’ll maintain.

There’s no right way of doing this, just work out what will work for you. Everyone here’s in it together and so supportive.

fezzesarecool · 20/08/2018 12:41

FATEdestiny Thanks, what I’ll probably do is watch the Shred through once and then look up YouTube videos for practicing the correct positions and movements.

Whenever I get around to that I can link the moves on here if you like?

LarryFreakinStylinson · 20/08/2018 12:57

Thank you fezzes. I’ve been umming and ahhing about joining RH fitness on Facebook. I think I’ll do it.

FATEdestiny · 20/08/2018 15:18

Hi LarryFreakinStylinson, do whatever works for you.

I'm not following any commercial diet, just common sence and lifestyle change. I eat only whole foods, nothing processed, cooked from scratch. Limited carbs (rather than no carbs), low fat and high protein. I have Sunday Dinner as a treat meal every week - the only meal we have potatoes and have a proper pudding.

I use the calorie logger on my fitbit for a couple of weeks every now and again. It's just to keep on top of my portion sizes and to get a clearer understanding of my calories in verse calories out. I don't calorie count all the time though.

What's also important for us is that the whole family have embraced - and are enjoying - the change in diet. My DH has lost over 5 stone and our 4 children (aged nearly 4-14) are all on board with the lifestyle changes. So I think this is what makes it more long term. It's not just me, it's all 6 of us.

moonlight1705 · 20/08/2018 16:52

Well done all of you lovely losers this week. It must be frustrating having kids off in the holidays disrupting the routine. DH is a teacher and I find we do a lot more walking so maybe that helps.

I'm in Dundee this week as I'm starting a long distance part-time Masters degree so am up for a workshop week. How am I going to cope with eating out every meal between now and Saturday? Confused

fezzesarecool · 20/08/2018 17:20

moonlight1705 Big well done on starting your masters! I keep thing about a OU degree in and off but I need to do my driving first. All plans for when the youngest starts Pre school.

I’ve been looking up menus or generic meals before going on and planning around that, so small meals in the day and bigger one at night. Or if we’re busy then 2 large meals. Just take each day as it comes and plan around the kind of day you’re having.

Today I had beans on wholemeal toast as a late breakfast/brunch. Just having a low calorie ready meal for dinner. Then we’re out from 7 till 10 and I’ll have a snack when we get in, maybe a couple of drinks while we’re out. Every day’s been different to how I’ve eaten.

LarryFreakinStylinson · 20/08/2018 17:45

Moonlight well done on the Masters. I’ve just today enrolled on my second year (also PT DL) so I know where your head is at!

As for the managing whilst hotel living I’d love a clue on that one as well. I have two jobs, one that takes me away from home for up to a week at a time and I really struggle with food choices when I’m away. I hate the thought of paying £12 for a bloody salad!! My other job is shift work so eating and being awake at stupid times and no consistency 😖

moonlight1705 · 20/08/2018 18:07

Ooh Larry exciting second year coming up! Will let you know how the week goes in the hotel but as you say, its hard. What are you studying?

I'll try what fezze has said and try and have a lighter lunch (that's being provided by the uni so may be small anyway) and choose healthier options out. Maybe not a fry up every morning Smile

fezzesarecool · 20/08/2018 18:25

LarryFreakinStylinson would it be worth you getting a travel cooker/hot plate for when you’re staying at hotels?

PostNotInHaste · 20/08/2018 18:29

Ooo, interesting as have booked myself on open day with a view to starting a Masters next September ! Really want to start now but not the right time on many levels so will have to be patient.

Hi Larry and welcome. I’m using something similar to MFP combined with Fitbit and it’s worked well.

My knees aren’t up to the Shred! Strawberrypig as you said that will just be water. A huge well done for KOKOing. Realising the old patterns you were in and changing them is a huge step.

LarryFreakinStylinson · 20/08/2018 18:50

Fezzes that looks cool. But heavy? And then would I not need pans etc as well? Not sure how practical it would be but that’s the kind of lateral thinking I need!!

Moonlight I’m doing Medical Law. It makes my brain 🤯

fezzesarecool · 20/08/2018 19:23

How about this?

www.amazon.co.uk/Perfect-Cooker-TPPFCKR3C-Touch-Multi/dp/B01AWP6BT6/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ref=plSrch&keywords=travel+cooker&dpPl=1&dpID=41txbAUCdeL&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1534789204&sr=8-3

Apparently you can cook meat in it too and perfect portion control too!

There’s probably better options out there but worth a look around
