Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Although thinking about it, it would probably be easier just to add the weekly weigh in together and give a more accurate picture

Sorry totally misunderstood!

Maybe pm Tractors to see how she did it. On my weigh in overall totals I include what I’ve lost before and since joining the thread (although I started my journey end of February and joined April.)

I don’t mind either way, maybe put it to a vote on the new thread?

Fate that is genius. Let's definitely do that. I've not checked if you have already, but could you c&p that on to new thread?

Fezzes I meant more than Jack for e.g. has lost many stones before joining us - do those count on "our" total, or just those she loses now she has?

On the running thread, a cumulative total is kept going to each post. It's obviously miles on the running thread, but pounds of weight lost would work too.

So they have a number in bold at the bottom of anyone's post, for example:

1634.25 lb

You then carry on chat as normal but anytime someone has a weigh day and wants to include their loss in the total, you just scroll up and find the last figure in bold, add yours to it and put it in bold at the bottom of your post.

For example say I'd lost 1.5lb, my post would include the last total (1634.25) plus 1.5, so:

1635.75 lb

I don't know what folks think of this idea? It means we keep a running total but without it being anyone's job to add it up.

On the running thread, the cumulative total is zeroed at the start of each month. So it is the total in that month only.

honeysucklejasmine How about a overall total loss across the thread and lost per thread? (I say this as the one not having to do all the maths!)

New thread - loss total doesn't include jack's ... I wasn't sure whether to just include what has been lost whilst on thread, or just lost in total. Thoughts?

Absolutely honey. While I ate loads, every single thing I had was a healthy choice of food. So it wasn't biscuits, chocolate or cake like it used to be. I was consciously trying to eat nutritious food that would sustain my hunger, rather than 'wasted calories' like I used to.

I think it comes down to being uneducated on sports nutrition.

I need to educate myself on how to best eat when I'm doing sustained exercise like that. For example I did a 2h run completely fasted. By the time I finished running 16k, I'd had nothing but coffee for 15h. And then I didn't feel like eating, only drinking. So there's no wonder I was very hungry afterwards.

I probably need to give much more thought to my pre- and post- run nutrition next time I do any marathon trainin. Then I should be better able to avoid over eating.

Anyway. Net result this week is maintaining weight as a direct result of my 10 miles run and subsequent over eating. But I have lost an inch from my waist measurement and I have proved I can run for 2 hours, which is phenomenal. So I'm not concerned about the number on the scales for this week.

fate I have days where I just can't stop eating. But, you know, those "binges" are still less than I used to eat day to day before. Mostly cause I can now get a hold on myself before it gets out of hand.

Decided to get my first ‘at home’ run out the way with so Week 4 Run 3 done

I had a look on google maps and nice to have a idea of the actual distance I did (2.6 miles) although I miss my tennis court as although it was the clearest road it was very uneven and puddles everywhere. Then it started raining and I had no choice but to carry on to get myself home 🤣

The distance of where I ended up halfway 5 mins or so from my workplace so pleased with that.

I’ve actually managed to stay away from the scales too!

I'm having a similar week honeysucklejasmine. I know from my mid week weighs that I steadily lost 2.5lb from Mon-Fri. Then on Saturday I did my mammoth 16km run and since then I've wanted to eat everything. Literally eat everything. I'd put on 1lb this morning and tomorrow is official weigh day. I just can't stop eating.

Evidently while long, long runs are good for my exercise progress, they are not good for my weight loss! I've eaten far more calories than the run burnt. I guess I should stick to 5k with occasional 10k and save thoughts of marathons until I don't need to watch my calorie intake.

Well done losers!

Odd one for me today. I've either lost 1.5lbs (Saturday) or 0.75lbs (today). A few circumstances mostly involving bowel movements and breastmilk. I am going to go with 0.75lbs. I find that if I choose the bigger loss I spend the whole week stressed about maintaining it.

So, 67.5lbs lost in total, 35.25lbs to go. 2.5lbs off 5 stone. Argh!

Tractors hope you are ok and rejoin us soon Flowers

Did Tractors start a new thread? I think we are nearly at the end of this one, don’t want to lose you all Blush

Stripey I’ve always avoided looking at the scale previously. This time I’ve had to acknowledge how hideously high my weight got and it’s kind of kept me going.

Magic think I’m a few pounds behind you, can you look at yourself and see that you’ve lost weight? I know I have as old clothes are huge but I can’t “see” it.
My colleagues at work don’t say much but lots of our regular clients have shouted across the waiting room “oi love have you lost a lot of weight” Grin
I’m going to dig out my uniform dress I wore when I started and see how big it is now.

Jack “a bit of weight”? That’s a huge amount! Well done and welcome Flowers

AnotherOtter I have PCOS too, had you hirtuism improved with the loss? Mine hasn’t Sad and I’m still really boiley around period time. Having to pluck everyday drives me mad.

KOKO everyone Flowers

Wow, you are all so good with your running! Well done everyone.

I've STS this week which I'm actually quite happy with due to week long hotel stay. The summer school was excellent and I'm really excited to be starting my Masters Smile

I tried to not have different courses each night and just stick to the one which has obviously made a difference.

1.5lbs off for me this week - 4 more lbs needed to get to the 5th stone which was my initial target (as much as my imagination could cope with), total loss to date 65.5lbs. Feels really weird as have never got this far before. Some people are being absolutely brilliantly supportive. Some are...not and are perhaps finding it as weird as I am! Sure things will settle down when we all get used to it. Will probably need to set final target around 2 stone more, but need to think about it.

Welcome JackReacher (ah if only I was actually welcoming the lovely Reacher!). Good luck with your run by the canal today, sounds like a good place for it. Look out for the mooring rings!

I love how the weight loss and fitness makes me feel stronger as a parent. Your situation must have been terrifying Fezzes but you clearly handled it brilliantly.

Hello :) joining this thread tentatively I've lost a bit of weight alone but I'm starting to drop off a bit. Gone from 23 stone to 18 stone 13, not too shabby but need to crack on and get on with it and get it ended. Another 8 stone to go. :) starting couch to 5k tomorrow. Thank god the canal near where I live is very quiet!

I feel back on track this week, lost the 2 lbs I'd gained from last week. Hopefully it's the last week I've gained and loss the same 2 lbs Blush

Fate well done on the run and wow at the 10 miles. I'm still running 3x a week and absolutely love it, I'm a morning exerciser too and love the feeling I'm done for the day.

I finally got out on my kayak today, it's been years since I last went out, as I was too afraid I'd get stuck Blush. Loved every minute of it.

So right now the light has come on that forgetting the health benefits etc. Jogging/running would be a very useful ability for me to have

Absolutely! Definitely keep going with the C25K programe. If you've done Week 4, it's only 5 more weeks to complete. Plus, Week 5 is the best week! Scariest, but W5R3 is pivotal and gives the most amazing feeling when you realise you can do this.

I was BMI 35 when I did C25K. Today I ran for 10 miles! My longest ever run, 16.1K, 10 frigging miles!

Took me just under 2h and burnt 1250 calories. Saying that, I don't run for calorie burn or weight loss. I run for the fact that a healthy heart wants at least 30 minutes of exercise 5 times a week and I want to be healthy.

I also run because I've come to realise I'm bone idle and love being lazy (it's why I became so big). Doing a big run in the morning means I can be as bone idle as I want for the rest of the day without feeling guilty about it.

Fezzes you are absolutely right and how terrifying that would have been. We with young children really do need to see the positive impact this will have on their lives. I already run and play more with my toddler, and go out for walks in pushchair which she enjoys.

MagicKeysToAsda Jury’s still out in that one! (I’m saying this after deciding to get one last holiday run in Week 4 Run 2 ✔️🤪)

However I do see the point/maybe got my thing for running now which I didn’t before as there’s other exercises that I enjoy more.

But now I’m thinking running in relation to the scariest fucking thing that I’ve been through.

Anyway, I don’t drive. When my son was 3 weeks old I was at home and he stopped breathing. The Gp’s is literally 5 minutes walk down the road or a ambulance (assuming it would be dispatched from the hospital was 20 minutes away).

Luckily my oh was home and we jumped in the car straight to the Gp as it was the quickest way to get emergency medical help.

Long story short my baby was given oxygen right away by the Gp and then ventilated and in intensive care for a week. All the medical staff said we did the right thing going to the Gp rather that wait as at that time every second counted.

So what if I had been on my own? I couldn’t jog for 2 seconds never mind for 5 minutes to save my son’s life

All because I’m too fucking fat and selfish for not taking care of my health for the sake of my babies.

Another situation I had a couple of months back is my mum wasn’t in A and E. Her house is 20 minutes away from the hospital. No one else was around to help her and rather than walk/jog I got 2 buses from the hospital to her house and 2 buses back again to get her stuff together.

Thankfully she’s fine now.

But again what if something had happened while I was away from her bedside? I don’t thinkI could have ever forgiven myself for not doing everything I could do be with her.

So right now the light has come on that forgetting the health benefits etc. Jogging/running would be a very useful ability for me to have.

Sorry I always go on! This thread is like my therapy!! It’s great for all the emotional parts of this journey.

Anyway, whatever the post weigh in is I’m happy I’ve done 11 holiday runs.

Hope everyone enjoys the bank holiday weekend.

Woo hoo, just completed Week 4 Run 1, which was the most important one to me.

It means as a 14st obese woman I could jog the 5 minutes to the pre school/primary school/Gp and pharmacy in a emergency. 😄 (5 minutes there and then 5 minutes back and still able to function rather than have to go for a long lay down).

Very tempting to complete the programme now as 5k would be me jogging from work to the school/home in a emergency, but don’t hold me to that yet.

honeysucklejasmine I remember quite clearly someone close to me going on about my weight when I was a size 12 and not thinking about it overweight. I remember thinking well if you think I’m fat I’ll show you what fat is 😳 I was a very immature 18 year old at the time.
