Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Will try Asda, and dig a bit deeper in Sainsburys when I go and return the 1st two swimsuits, thanks!

Ok that makes sense re the run lengths not sure it will feel like a rest that's great news you're still getting 3 runs per week in, fantastic stuff! I am incredibly slow but I don't care, I'm just stunned I'm doing it at all.

I'm well impressed with the running!!! When I get to a certain goal is like to try c25k but I want my body to be a bit stronger first!

You're probably a different size to me too- I was just so excited the sainsbos one fitted me (and even then I sized up I think!!!)

ScaredPAD · 08/06/2018 07:37

(I mean I'm huge and not fit - and so limited in choice, you might well find better obese elsewhere!)

Well done nickname! Almost first half stone :)

Has anyone had/knowledgable about body contouring?

I’m at peace with the fact that I will have loose skin and not worrying too much about this as frankly it’s tomorrow’s problem and I’ve still got a long way to go until I see what kind of state I’m in.

However I was reading a article about a lady that was 50 and lost over 10stone and hasn’t no loose skin. She put this down to having regular contouring sessions and I figure it may be worth a go and as I’ve got a birthday coming up maybe I could ask for a gift voucher (good deals on groupon).

But I’m a bit clueless about the whole thing and embrassed about phone up to ask about it. Anyway so just wondering if anyone know about this/had any thoughts?

From what I can work out you had a session every so often and it won’t perform miracles but just help the skin tighten at that stage.

Well done nickname and breaking sad.

Never heard of contouring. I lost over 100 lbs about 5 years ago and did have a bit of a saggy stomach, but exercise really helped with toning. I started off Zumba and aqua aerobics and as I got fitter started body combat and body pump.

I’ve done resistance training since I started and I’m steadily increasing what I lift but I wonder if this is also worth looking into having along side my exercise?

Thanks for the new thread, Tractors, and wow at our new total! We are doing so well Smile

That's terrible that you have lost all your posts, Notanurse. It still says "message withdrawn at poster's request" so god knows what has happened. They will have backups but will they be able to restore specific posts... fingers crossed! Do you have any records yourself? Maybe we should all take this as a prompt to make our own records (and back them up) of information we want to keep from Mumsnet posts.

B1rd, I am writing my list of reasons why I want to lose weight (and keep it off). It is helping focus the mind and giving me a wee boost. Your self-care group sounds great. What an excellent idea. Really well done for finished week 5! That is a major milestone. I think it goes back to walking intervals to let your body build up slowly to the extra physical stress. I actually found going back to intervals pretty tough as was expecting them to be easy after managing 20 minutes non-stop! Definitely trust the programme as it really works.

Sorry to hear your mood has been rubbish, Nickname. How are you feeling today? You are under a lot of stress so please be kind to yourself too.

Well done on your loss, Cagliostro. The body fat measurements on scales are notoriously unreliable. Some are +/-5% and some are as bad as +/10% (so it could say 42% but you are actually 32%). The only way to accurately measure body fat percentage is to get in a water tank at a lab - which costs a fair bit! So I'd ignore those scale measurements entirely. Waist measurement is a proven good estimate of body fat.

Very sensible to be careful not to get obsessed with numbers, Scared, with your past medical history. Well done for going swimming, sounds like you are enjoying it Smile It's rubbish that people who have larger bodies or different bodies have to put up with strangers being fuckers at times!

Well done on your losses, folk.

I was wondering if anyone wanted to add to my list of reasons to lose weight. I kept a list of reasons to stop smoking on my phone and that helped when I was struggling. People will have different reasons but thought others might of thought of things that I hadn't. This is what I have so far:
People will treat me better due to their own prejudices not being triggered
Much less street harassment
Look better, at least conventionally
Much increased energy
Can do daily activities, like cleaning the bathroom, much easier
Sense of achievement
Better mental health
Less stress on joints
Normal BMI so less risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, some types of cancer, osteoarthritis and back pain
Can buy clothes at any shop
In better physical state to face unexpected illnesses
Able to do Couch25K
Taken more seriously by doctors who won’t automatically blame everything on my weight

Thanks Smile

Being a good role model to my kids
Not being a embarrassment to my kids
Able to go on rides
Won’t need a seat belt extension on a plan
Not have to sweat away in covered up clothes in the summer
Being able to be a active parent
Because I’m better than this
I don’t need my weight to protect me any more

I really hope it's what you want Cag!

I recently moved across the country. Just had a message from a friend from home saying she's completing on a house in the next suburb over on Monday! I'm thrilled, she's so lovely and it'll be great to see her again more regularly! She's also really in to walking so fingers crossed we get out and about together.

Report
Cagliostro · 08/06/2018 19:32

I was 46% so I dread to think what I was at my heaviest! Since the margin of error is so huge I won’t bother measuring regularly, I might check just before my appt in mid August, just to see if it’s lower.

I’ve not measured my waist either, clothes do keep getting looser and I have bought 18s for the first time in ages. My thighs definitely feel slimmer too. Looooong way to go though. Such a long way.

Adding to the reson to lose weight list

To not shit myself that I’ve a posh hen night to go to and will be looking awful 😞

Aw thanks honey I am pretty certain we will say yes (as it’s housing register you can only turn down one) - we have seen the location and looked at floor plans etc and it all seems great! I am totally freaked out at the thought of moving though as we have so much to sort out 😳

Impressed at taekwondo moonlight my older two started last year, I’d love to join someday but the exercise half of the sessions are seriously tough.

Ok Hen night’s the 4th of August and if I can’t get over this stall and lose 2 pounds a week that a stone off

It’s so frustrating that it still won’t be enough by then to be looking ok but obviously a goal to work to and looking a bit better than now

Tbh it’s only lately that I’ve really noticed that my weight had been making me a bit depressed other the last few years

The current weight I am now is when I used to go out drinking every Friday and feeling body confident in my clothes but now I think I can realistically see how I look

Don’t get me wrong I’m pleased with what I’ve managed to do so far but with this invite and knowing I still have a long way to go it’s a bit depressing thinking that it’s nothing really I’m still obese
