Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

I meant to add.... I'd imagine that the bigger you are, the bigger the fluctuation.

Best answer is your only compare like-for like-for. So pick a time in the day you weigh yourself and stick to it fiery weigh-in.

MindBodyChocolate · 16/08/2018 13:16

I only ever weigh first thing, before drinking or eating anything and after the toilet!! My weight can vary by 5lbs during the day so it's best to keep consistent and go for the lower weight.

moonlight1705 · 16/08/2018 13:44

Saturday morning pre-tea and post-wee for my weigh-in.....in the buff!

TMI Grin

I've never tried at other times of the day but I did get on the midwife's scales and I was 2kg lighter there in the middle of the day so I like those scales.

Getfitmumma · 16/08/2018 18:23

I just wondered as mine can be really different so wondered if my scales worked properly

fezzesarecool · 16/08/2018 19:57

So I’ve got a tummy bug 🤢

Nothing too harsh but all I’ve had in 24 hours are 2 slices of whole meal toast and a protein shake and it’s debatable whenever or not that stays down. I’m not managing much water either.

Anyway my question is that obviously during this time I’ll be losing water weight and then that will be going straight back on. So how long till the scales reflect a true weight? I’m back home next weekend and hoping to see a true weight if that makes sense.

Getfitmumma I normally weigh myself first thing in the morning after using the loo, clothed! I put on around 5lbs throughout the day.

strawberrypig · 16/08/2018 20:34

Another pre-coffee, post wee and naked kinda girl here! I also have marked the exact spot the scales need to be with masking tape Grin Can you tell I'm a scientist and need a control!

FATEdestiny · 16/08/2018 20:38

Your weight will always be different throughout the day Getfitmumma. Sometimes massively. This has no bearing on your weight loss though. So it is a very needless worry. You're scales will probably be fine.

It's really unhealthy to weigh yourself multiple times in a single day. And there's nothing to benefit from it at all. I mean, you shouldn't even weigh yourself more than once a week.

Just step on the scales first thing in the morning, when you've had a wee, and that's it.

Why do you weigh yourself multiple times a day?

honeysucklejasmine · 16/08/2018 22:49

Fezzes it took about two weeks for me to stabilise again after I was in hospital and pumped full of fluids.

honeysucklejasmine · 16/08/2018 22:51

So, question for the biggest loser's - how long did it take for you to start seeing yourself as a slim person? I'm struggling with it a bit. I look in mirror and see same old fatty, although I'll concede a bit smaller. And yet I'm buying clothes I haven't fit in for 15+ years. Does your mental image of yourself catch up with reality eventually?

Stripeybum · 16/08/2018 23:15

Just reading how people weigh and laughing at the fact I weigh in at Boots 😂 I take my shoes off but that's it 😂 Sorry just tickled me.

This is why I'm trying to weigh monthly as I know I'm such a control freak I'd get too obsessive otherwise

Xxx

fezzesarecool · 16/08/2018 23:29

honeysucklejasmine Still struggling, although I’m still officially obese so it’s good I suppose that I don’t see that I’ve changed yet.

Hopefully the mental image will catch up soon hence trying out Clubercise, running etc. Also going into shops and trying on clothes and wearing things that would normally make me self conscious about certain body parts.

I think I will always have that fat girl self consciousnesses and all I can suggest is building up being body confident.

😫 Two weeks to even out this tummy bug! Although if I can resist the scales I suppose it would be good to go a extra week without weighing.

Newbie thread join Grin

I have 56lb to lose so not quite the 100 but at 5ft2.5 this weight is a difference of been healthy or been obese. Since I started my journey 2 weeks ago I’ve lost 6lb with the majority coming off in the first week. I struggle with curbing my snacking especially on a night after a long day at work. I find fitting in exercise hard with a full time job and 2 kids under 4. Any tips would be welcome.

fezzesarecool · 16/08/2018 23:45

Getfitmumma I found it really useful to weigh myself a lot. It’s helped me to track changes through the month, ovulation and just before AF I tend to have water weight gains which can be as much as 5lbs and then seemingly disappear over night. Tracking through the day was good for me too to see what a normal day would be for me, but I don’t really weigh throughout the day anymore.

However it’s not for everyone, you could measure yourself too and have ‘measuring’ clothing to see how much better you fit something.

At first I only wore jeans going out the house and as soon as I was home put on my jogging bottoms. I think for about a month I only wore these jeans once a week and I could really feel the difference in them.

Stripeybum 🤣 I’m just imagining if I was weighing at Boots, I would be in there so often they’d be looking at me like 🧐

Getfitmumma · 17/08/2018 07:44

FATE I don't weigh myself multiples times in a day as standard practice.... I have been weighed by the gym/doctor etc and get slightly different readings to what I think I weigh so when I have later checked at home, it is more than expected and then a good few pounds less again in the morning but again I weigh on weigh day in the morning and it's lower so I just wondered how everyone else finds it out of curiosity. I guess when you have been very overweight for years and are dropping significant weight for the first time ever relatively easily you doubt the scales work!! I know that they must do because I have been through several clothes sizes and people comment on my loss constantly (but that is a whole other story as it drives me mad)

Weighed in this morning, my normal day, and I have now lost a total of 6 stone so taking me to:

-2.5lb off this week
-84lbs total off in 31 weeks
Which means 65lbs to go although I have said before (under my previous account) that I think that target might be too low so will be looked at again when I get nearer.
Start weight was 299lbs
Target weight is 150lbs

(My previous account I have been locked out of but my user was reallylosingitthistime)

FATEdestiny · 17/08/2018 08:40

Don't doubt it Getfitmumma, and bloody well done!!

I was talking to my MIL about these daily fluctuations a few months ago. She genuinely didn't realise. She had a target weight of half a pound under BMI 25. I suggested to maybe aim for 5-7lb under, on the basis that you might do all think work and go to the doctors at 2pm for her blood pressure check only to find that by 2pm she is overweight, when she was healthy in the morning.

Welcome Bigpizzalover! If you want to go out exercise, maybe go when your partner gets home from work? DH and I often take turns to go out for a run in the early evening.

how long did it take for you to start seeing yourself as a slim person?

Slim to me is that users toned look of gym bunnies - BMI under 20. I do now think I look "normal", as in not fat. Interesting though that I am 8lb into the overweight category still, so in fact I'm not "normal weight". Not yet anyway. Feels good being this size though, definitely.

AnotherOtter · 17/08/2018 12:25

I'm another one that weighs first thing in the morning after using the toilet and before eating or drinking. I've never bothered to weigh myself later on in the day but at the surgery I am usually 3-5lbs heavier. I don't bother taking my shoes off Grin

Sorry that you got a bug, fezzes. Hope you feel better soon Thanks I'd guess that your weight wouldn't settle until at least three days after the last symptom and maybe as long as a week.

Honey, my mental image has not caught up with my weight loss. I have a BMI of 24.3 as of this morning but I don't see myself as a 'normal weight' at all. I am a classic apple shape so have a protruding tummy and big boobs and really don't feel like they have reduced much though intellectually I know they have. I've never been very good at judging my size though. I notice it indirectly sometimes like when playing the piano I have a lot more room to move my arms without the bulk of my old tummy. Or that plane seats feel a lot bigger. I never wanted to be 'slim' or 'thin' though just 'normal' and blend in with everyone else. There's a CBT exercise where you take a length of rope and make a circle to estimate your waist and then actually put it round you to compare. I am appalling at it!

fezzesarecool · 17/08/2018 15:21

Start 278

Last week 196
Week 25 Exercise Week 21 Calorie counting
This week sts

Week loss 0
Total loss -81

Goal 136lb
Left to lose 65lb
Start to lose 142lb

Weighing in to keep my records up to date so haven’t actually weighed in if that makes sense! Just put it as sts as no scales here.

Over the stomach bug, so much better now 😄

Bigpizzalover · 17/08/2018 20:54

Thank you FATE (not sure how to tag) DP is away mon-fri, I’m thinking of trying to do a family exercise activity one day a weekend but trying to make it fun, castle walks etc. Friends have recommended a weighted hula hoop. Has anyone tried them?

Wow FEZZES that’s a massive achievement

fezzesarecool · 17/08/2018 21:15

Bigpizzalover Thanks, I’ve got 19lbs till I get to 100 off and till I’m in the ‘just’ overweight BMI so still a way till I get there. I’ve got 85kg, 13st and 80kg as my mini goals on my way to that.

I tried hula hooping as it’s looks so fun but I’m rubbish! Luckily I’ve bought the normal kids type ones to try out so at least the kids still have them to play with.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 18/08/2018 10:59

Not even going to try to namecheck everyone - we're burning through this thread super quickly!

Loss this week: 2lb
To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 52 lbs
Left to lose: 72 lbs

Happy with that! Hope you all have a good weekend.

OP posts:
moonlight1705 · 18/08/2018 11:51

I've put on a smidgen under 1/2 a pound this week which is expected as had friends around last weekend.

Total loss: 18.5lb

honeysucklejasmine · 19/08/2018 08:41

Loss this week: 1.5lbs
Lost to date: 66.75lbs
To lose: 36lbs

I am 3.25lbs away from 5 stone lost. I hope to reach that in two weeks time.

Another BBQ today. I am responsible for salads, so I've got coleslaw, carrot and raisin, potato salad, and I'm going to make a rice salad and an actual lettuce based salad.

ChestyNut · 19/08/2018 09:21

This week- 1lb 8oz lost
Total - 61lbs 8oz
To lose- 38lb 8oz

Pleased with that, some of you may remember my homework from the dietician last year was to have a takeaway, well I did this week Blush
Took me a year but it was fine, I didn’t binge and nothing bad happened

Anotherotter glad you’re feeling more stable Flowers
ChestyDog seems better than he did so we’re just plodding on.

Getfit I weigh same day, pre drink, Post wee in a vest and knickers, in exact same place.....any deviation would freak me out Hmm

Has anyone else noticed there periods have changed? My cycles have gone from 33-34 days to 28?

5 weeks to my holidays Grin

moonlight and Stripey I’m also a slow loser. Very disconcerting when others are losing more quickly but I haven’t cut out things like cheese and chocolate altogether as I find if I feel deprived I binge.
We’ll get there eventually Flowers

KOKO everyone Flowers

AnotherOtter · 19/08/2018 09:53

Loss this week: 4.4lbs
Total loss: 96.4lbs
To go: 4.6lbs

Down nearly 8lbs from my highest after my antipsychotic drug dose increase and pretty much back to where I started from. Have attached my MFP graph to show how ridiculous it is. I know they are powerful drugs, blah blah blah, but come on, this is taking the piss. I should be pleased that it looks like I've not gained weight, or it didn't stick anyway, but I feel sad that I've made no progress in two months. My eating has definitely stabilised with eating at 1850 calories and aiming to lose half a pound a week. I'm finding it pretty straight forward and not too much of a stretch at all unlike 1600 calories. So I will be sticking with 1850 for the foreseeable future. Also pretty sure that I'm going to lower my target weight to 135lbs from 140lbs. But I want to get the goal pop up at 140lbs on MFP first Grin

moonlight, less than half a pound on in a week with an outing and you well into the second trimester is excellent! You are doing so well Thanks

Those salads sound good, honey. Love carrot and raisin. You're closing in on that milestone Smile

Really well done with the takeaway, Chesty. That is major progress. Great that wee ChestyDog is more stable now too.

Well done to those who have lost this week and well done to those who are KOKO even without a boost from the scales going down which I think is even harder.

Has anyone else noticed there periods have changed? My cycles have gone from 33-34 days to 28?

Yes, me! I thought it was just me, maybe my age or something (I'm coming up your 42).

My periods have always been you-can-set-your-watch-by-them regular. Always exactly 27 days, for well over 20 years. And I even knew the time I would start (8.30am) so could insert a tampon in anticipation of my period starting.

I've now quite inexplicably dropped to a 24 day cycle. Been like that for at least 6 cycles now (I've been dieting 8 months).

I wonder if it's weight loss related?
