Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... - Part 5

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/06/2018 20:04

Hello, welcome to the fifth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible….........Star 1024lbs Star since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing! Grin Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Aerobics was good, Magic. Bit sore the next day but that's all good too. Have ordered some dumbbells to use for the arm session. See how we go!

DH left early for work today. Cat pestering him woke the baby up. Yay. Marvelous.

FATEdestiny · 14/08/2018 08:16

I run in the mornings so less of an issue with darker evenings. I'm looking forward to the children going back to school so I have the time to focus on some longer runs.

The cooler weather has done my running pace good though. I got a 5K PB of 31 minutes something yesterday, with my first ever 1k split time under 6 minutes. Edging closer to a sub-30 5K time.

honeysucklejasmine · 14/08/2018 09:11

Congratulations Fate, that's fab! My pace is a blistering 10min/km at the moment!

MindBodyChocolate · 14/08/2018 10:14

Pace doesn’t matter, honey!! When I started c25k I was 10 min per km but I’ve been as fast as 8 mins 30!! Still glacially slow in comparison to some but a huge achievement for me! I need to get back to the running. I got put off by the car beeping, cat calling and general abuse that a 40 year old woman out by herself in running attire apparently attracts (dickheads) but I’m actually missing it.

AnotherOtter · 14/08/2018 10:20

Sorry things are so tough, Chesty Thanks Especially with the milestone anniversary looming. Poor wee ChestyDog. It is hard to judge their quality of life towards the end but sometimes, horribly, taking them to the vet to be put to sleep is genuinely our last gift to them. I have cried buckets of tears over this in the past. It's just awful all round.

How did you get on with your own dentist yesterday, Breaking? Hope things have improved significantly.

FATE, I've read that it's usually 5-7lbs per inch off a woman's waist. My loss has been approximately that but it's certainly not been linear. I am also apple shaped with a high hip-waist ratio and an almost normal height-waist ratio but not there yet. Going by the 5-7lbs per inch, I will need to have a BMI of about 23 to have a normal waist measurement. Why can't this fat be on my arse?! I am definitely jealous of women who are pear shaped or hourglasses with their lovely defined waists!

Great progress, Renaissance. Lunch was an important change for me too.

Very well done on your loss over your holiday, MindBody. Hope you got a chance to rest (or a different kind of busy!) with your kids in holiday camp.

Oh Stripey, you sound really down Thanks Despite dieting 'wisdom' not everyone with a lot to lose has big losses at the start. On this thread, I might be misremembering but don't think Post, Tractors or moonlight had big initial whooshes. I wonder if Slimming World is right for you or perhaps you need to tweak it? Or perhaps try a totally different approach like Weight Watchers or even calorie counting with MyFitnessPal or low carb? I've learnt a lot, and got a lot of tips, from browsing various threads with people using different methods. Anyway, hang in there. You have a lot of options and you'll get there.

AnotherOtter · 14/08/2018 10:23

Cross-post with MindBody. Those motherfuckers who harass us on the street ought to be ashamed of themselves. I've not had any this year so it's definitely related to weight too as had several "fat cunt!" and "fat whore!" last year. It put me off starting C25K for months which is just sad and unfair.

moonlight1705 · 14/08/2018 11:35

Stripey - Another got it right, I've never had a big whoosh. Its always chipping away at it like a massive rock bit by bit.

I started off at 135kg and am now down to 124kg but that has taken over a year. Sad to say that it doesn't always come off quickly however I will say that I am deliberately having things which aren't great as I need to learn portion size and being able to regulate my binge eating (easier when you know there is a fish and chips at the end of the week).

fezzesarecool · 14/08/2018 12:03

Just a quick check in. Diet and exercise is going ok.

I’ve gone for a jog the last couple of mornings first thing and then that’s the exercise out the way with. Food wise we’re busy so not getting that hungry and we’ve found that we’re actually being really good too as we’ve got treats planned later on.

Also I thing the change in routine is helping as our meal times are completely different to at home and it’s actually helping us to refocus.

So who know what the scale will say after two weeks, but I’m definitely hoping that at the very least I’ve maintained and anything else will be a bonus.

honeysucklejasmine · 14/08/2018 12:11

I just bought a rain coat I'm a size 14. Eep. I don't remember ever buying clothes that small. At least since I was in my mid teens. Bloody hell.

My bum and more to the point thighs are staying resolutely bigger. I used to be an hourglass shape but I am swiftly becoming pear shaped. Must keep up legs, bums and tums work outs! But seriously. Size 14!

strawberrypig · 14/08/2018 12:17

That is hideous Otter. There is a special place in hell reserved for those scrotes that gain happiness from making other people miserable.

I've just bought a vibroplate! I do plenty of aerobic exercise so need help with muscle toning and this is something I can do whilst still spending time with the family. I've bought it online so can send it back if it is no good!

fezzesarecool · 14/08/2018 12:26

honeysucklejasmine Woohoo! Size 14, how lovely! That’s my exciting time when I get there.

It’s funny the whole changing shape thing. Everyone always says the boobs are the first to go but mine haven’t changed much. I’ve always had big boobs even when I was a size 12 but now if this keeps up I’ve going to be very out of proportion 😫

strawberrypig I really rate a virbration plate, you can really feel it in your muscles and really goes along well with exercise.

Stripeybum · 14/08/2018 23:51

Thanks loads for all your support ❤️ I saw a friend today I haven't seen in a while and she exclaimed 'wow you've lost weight!' I was really pleased but then weighed in and have lost 3kg in 4 weeks. My husband keeps saying slowly and surely is better and I suppose it could be viewed as a change in lifestyle rather than temporary

Honey - size 14 is amazing, that's the size I'm aiming for.

Otter and Moonlight- you're both lovely and kind. Thank you.

In fact this is the most supportive weight loss forum I've been on. I think it's good that we all have (or had for those wonderful inspiring losers) the same-ish amount to lose.

I'm so determined this time. I will get there

Thanks loads again and sorry for being such a whingebucket

Xxxxx

Stripeybum · 14/08/2018 23:53

Oh and Fezzes my boobs are definitely shrinking.

Why can't it be my tummy???? 😂

PostNotInHaste · 15/08/2018 07:05

Thread moves so quickly these days I’m not going to try to catch up. Stripey I understand how you feel and remember being Hmm that I lost a pound in week 1 whereas I used to lose 8lbs when I was younger. But at the end of the day this is the last time you’re going to do this and I don’t know how much you’re looking to lose but if it’s 100lbs then those 3kg is 6,6%.

On top of that you’re seeing inch loss (Are you measuring and keeping a record? If not really recommend it as great to look back on). I think you should give yourself a huge pat on the back - you’ve been away and nearly lost half a stone. What would have happened on previous holidays, would you have thought sod it, I’ll lose the weight when I get back? If so then keeping g it up whilst away is a huge win in the Behaviour change stakes and that’s what we’re all aiming for here as no point losing it then it going on again.

At the end of the day whichever way of eating we’re all doing doesn’t make any difference as it’s the changes in our heads which are what are going to make us successful. We’ll all take different amount of times to get there but it doesn’t matter. If you carried on at current rate you’ll have done 100lbs by mid October of next year. In reality it may well take a different amount of time, probably longer but could be shorter as the next bit of your individual weight loss story hasn’t been written yet and we don’t know what it is.

I hope Notanurse doesn’t mind me saying but I remember her being a slower starter too, then she took up walking with a vengeance and her loss went to a steadyish couple of pounds a week. Also over time you’ll probably find a monthly pattern will develop, weeks where you lose more than others, weight loss is most definitely not linear. For now though go and Find something that weighs 3kg and hold that, then pick up another 3kg and that will be you in another month. When we’ve a lot to lose it’s easy to lose sight of how heavy 3kg actually is.

We’re on the cusp of a season change, the air feels different here and Autumn is very much a transitional season between the heat of summer and the onset of winter. Traditionally this would be the season of hpgetting the harvest in and preserving foods fir the winter, a busy time. Maybe think about setting yourself an Autumn goal - not really weightloss but about looking after yourself in some way, whatever you feel you would benefit from . Shorter term goals can be very helpful and break things up nicely.

Stripeybum · 15/08/2018 09:45

Post that's a lovely message. Thank you 😊
Xxxxx

And thanks to ALL of you xxx

fezzesarecool · 15/08/2018 10:24

Stripeybum Tummy and hips are where I carry the weight so I think that was first to go on and will be last to come off

My loss seems to be from the outside in, so my fingers 🙄 (where I really want to tone up!!) arms and legs are looking much better.

I’ve still got at least 4 stone to lose so hopefully my tummy and hips will slowly start to go a bit more now.

Just need to get through the summer holidays first and then I can get serious with my DVDs again. C25k is going well but I think it’s going to be for when I can’t do the DVDs rather than it being my thing. I’ve been doing it on the tennis courts while I’m away and finished the first week of it which is better than nothing right now.

AnotherOtter · 15/08/2018 11:06

Well done for completing week 1 of C25K, fezzes. Sounds like your holiday is going well.

Great NSV, honey! In the same spirit, I went to Bravissimo and am now a 32GG down from 32J so very pleased. New style so sizes might not be an accurate comparison but I'll take it Grin

Glad you are feeling a bit better, Stripey. Agreed that this a a great thread.

How are you recovering, Post? Hope things are going smoothly Thanks

I think I am starting to feel better, hopefully not just jinxed myself. I've lost 5.8lbs since my high immediately after increasing the risperidone (antipsychotic drug) a fortnight ago. All peed down the toilet! My eating feels more stable and like I am in control. Still eating at 250 calorie deficit (well, if my numbers are correct) and hoping for half a pound off a week. I've slowly started to increase my running distance too and aiming to be able to run 10k. I'm not convinced the running helps my mood unfortunately but will keep it up for the cardiovascular fitness.

fezzesarecool · 15/08/2018 11:26

Asda sale on, ordered a load of stuff for the kids for next year and could resist ordering something for myself.

Saw some cute pj bottoms for £3 so ordered a size 12-14 for next year 😣 currently a size 18 and that’s the first time I’ve ordered ahead in a small size. The plan is the hide them in my wardrobe and not check them till the spring time.

strawberrypig · 15/08/2018 14:25

For bra sizing this is the best link for measuring. The old way of measuring under bust and adding 4 doesn't take into account the shape of the boobs or bigger chests, this one is on the money every time.

www.mybrasizecalculator.com/index.php#calctable

honeysucklejasmine · 15/08/2018 15:23

I've just bought a new bra today. I've gone down a band size and up a cup size. My old bra is very old though so was stretchy and shit and not true to size. It's a nursing bra so will always be a temporary thing. Will get measured properly when I hit target.

Having a curry tonight. Have wanted one for ages, so going for it. Yum.

Hello I am a poster but by a different name as locked myself out of my old account 🤦🏼‍♀️

Anyway.... what do you find your difference in weight is between bedtime and morning? Just curious

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 15/08/2018 22:39

Depends on a number of factors Getfit so it's pretty difficult to put a figure on it. For example, type of food that has been eaten that day, volume drunk that day, what time of the month it is. It will differ from person to person and from day to day.

OP posts:
honeysucklejasmine · 15/08/2018 23:12

As much as 5lbs, but it's not consistent. I don't weigh at night as it's depressing. I'm not going to weigh for a few days now because I just ate a giant curry. Was delicious but wasn't within my allowance, for sure Grin

FATEdestiny · 16/08/2018 08:11

I never weight myself any time other than first thing upon waking up in the morning, after using the toilet (the lightest you'll be).

When anticipating a specific loss (like being quater pound off a new stone bracket) I've tried weighing myself after my morning run too. So this will be about 2h after first waking up, having drank only 1 mug of coffee, sweated that out in a 5k run, and having had another wee. I'll still be heavier than first thing in the morning.

The daily weight fluctuationd starts straight away for me. So I only ever use and compare the first-thing-in-the-morning weight.

what do you find your difference in weight is between bedtime and morning?

I read this last night and given I had weighed myself yesterday morning, I decided to weight at bedtime to give you some real-life figures:

Yesterday Morning: 10st 12 and 3/4lb
Yesterday Night: 11st 3lb
This Morning: 10 12 and 1/2 lb

So throughout the daytime I gained 4.25lb (but would ever know this because I never weigh at night). But in 24 hours I have lost 0.25 pound.

(had a cupcake with loads of icing sugar yesterday. Not a bad daily loss, considering)
