8 weeks to lose a stone

summerslimmer · 19/05/2018 18:52

Who’s up for losing a stone in the next 8 weeks?
I’ve had a terrible year so far- chronic health problems, 2 miscarriages, depression...
In short I’ve gained a lot of weight and really want to lose at least a stone of it before a holiday in July.
Thinking I’m going to try low carb when possible as that seems to suit my body.
No friends to do this with in real life so does anyone want to join me?

Morning all and hi to the new folk.

Some great sounding meals and plans happening.

I have a day at home which is always tricky...had eggs on pitta for bf which keep me full.

Lunch is ham salad and dinner not sure...

Will get a lunch time power walk in too.

Good luck everyone!

BiscuitMachine · 22/05/2018 08:34

Well done everyone for all your efforts to be good Smile I did ok yesterday, only had one small biscuit as a treat and had enough calories left for a hot chocolate in the evening. I’m another one struggling with not moving enough. I do exercise regularly, it’s just that on the days I’m at work I am sitting at a desk all day. It’s hard to get the step count up. I usually make it up with walking my dog, but she is injured at the moment and on limited exercise.
Anyway, good luck for today x

ObiJuanKenobi · 22/05/2018 10:46

I'm in the middle of a power walk with the twins in the pushchair - definitely motivating living by the sea.
Hoping to do a 5 mile walk but feeling the burn after the gym yesterday in my legs and starting to lag abit at only 1 mile in!! I suppose I should probably take the hint and ease into it more gently. Dreading the push up the zig zag on my way back now too BlushGrin

Me too!! I have just lost a stone in 7 weeks, I would like another 1 1/2 - 2 stone.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 22/05/2018 11:35

Am at work today. I am freelance and get expenses for lunch. It is hard to resist treating myself. Instead I bought:

Cooked chicken breast
Pea shoots
Apple
Nectarine
Skinny frappe latte

Had a scone for breakfast but that is a huge treat and only had 1000 odd calories yesterday so I'm ok with that.
Won't do many steps as today's commute is 3 hr round trip. My appetite is slowly shrinking tho!

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 22/05/2018 11:35

@ObiJuanKenobi that is stunning!

DaffoDeffo · 22/05/2018 11:44

I would love to join too

I have a few months off work and am desperate to lose the extra stone. For the last few weeks, I have been really good at what I am eating and started going to the gym and I've actually put on 2lbs (1kg)! So bloody depressing!

I don't think I can eat much less than I am eating now. I haven't tried to cut out carbs but I probably should (though my calories are still fairly low).

montenotte · 22/05/2018 12:11

daffodeffo

have you tried only eating carbs in the meal after your workout? that seems to be the thinking of many of the latest fitness & diet plans.

DaffoDeffo · 22/05/2018 12:25

montenotte, no I didn't know that. Thanks for the tip, I will try that.

I cook a meal for the kids in the evening so find it hard not to eat then. And have 2 ravenous teenagers in the house who clear the fridge out regularly like a pair of locusts!

milleniumhandandprawn · 22/05/2018 13:04

Wow obi what a place to live! Absolutely gorgeous :)

Am definitely less hungry today than yesterday, so am going to put off lunch until I actually want/need it.

Hi daffo I’ve put on weight since I’ve been running too - I think it’s a combo of muscle and also I’ve been more hungry so eaten more stuff even if it’s been healthy.
Am now trying to increase the lean protein content to stay fuller for longer with a net drop in cals.

Gymntonic · 22/05/2018 13:12

Managed 20,000 steps yesterday and 1400 calories. Less exercise today so aiming for 1000 calories plus soya and oat milk in drinks. 1200 all in.
B: Betavivo (ridiculously expensive oat cereal to cut cholesterol), zero fat zero sugar yogurt and raspberries
L tuna chickpea salad
D count on us meal from m and s. Max 400
S oatcakes and houmous, apple

DaffoDeffo · 22/05/2018 14:49

Thanks Millenium that's good to know about the running and weight!

I also need a low cholesterol making diet so need to watch I'm not eating too much fatty protein.

Cooking tacos for the kids tonight (one of those el paso kits with mince) but I will have chicken soup instead

Have just done 30 mins on the elliptical thing and around 15 mins of weights and I'm knackered! It's also quite hot out there today

Heartshapedfairylights · 22/05/2018 15:01

Daffo do they have a boditrax machine at your gym? You’ll be able to see that your body fat has gone down and muscle has gone up hopefully!

montenotte · 22/05/2018 15:16

also daffo eat protein with every meal. It will keep you full up and you will eat less overall. I think the key really is to keep your blood sugar stable and keep insulin levels low by not having much sugar.

Gymntonic · 22/05/2018 15:28

Daffo I'm not sure I believe all the bad press on cholesterol ( Google Malcolm Kendrick and Paul Rosch). I have genetically high cholesterol and no other indicators of heart disease. Have probably decided against statins despite GP suggestion. Have got three months before next test though so if I can reduce overall total and LDL to decent levels using plant sterols, oats and soya and avoiding saturated fats then it's one less thing to worry about.
I agree stable blood sugar is the key
Also eating in an 8 hour window. 11.30 to 19.30 today. Stops me snacking at night.

harrietm87 · 22/05/2018 15:58

Ok so after a bad first day yesterday (magnum + coffee cake...) I'm on track today- 2 weetabix for breakfast, egg sandwich for lunch, no snacks and plenty of water. Need to not binge for dinner!

PurpleDaisies · 22/05/2018 17:11

There was toast in the staffroom and I was grumpy so I succumbed to one piece. I did leave the others so feeling moderately virtuous.

Today’s eating has been so far...
B : wholemeal toast (1 slice with a bit of feta)
Illicit cheapo whitebread toast with crappy butter (1 slice)
L : small portion leftover tofu and veg stir fry with noodles

Dinner is going to be cauliflower, chickpea and paneer curry with leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I might add egg for more protein.

ObiJuanKenobi · 22/05/2018 18:01

I was very naughty and gave into a Mr Whippy ice cream with a flake at the beach! But it was at the end of a 5 mile walk and I'm ending the day on just over 15,000 steps so not being too hard on myself, I've also had a lovely tuna salad for lunch and no other snacking so pretty happy all in all.

Well done everyone, keep going!! Star

bbcessex · 22/05/2018 18:07

I had almost a whole bottle of wine over the course of a very king client evening - no willpower where that’s concerned!!!

But I did enjoy it, didn’t eat the evening food. And had my Jane Plan breakfast & lunch that instead of fantastic looking client lunch - so all in all, I’m happy 😎

Love the beach pic and much love Mr Whippy ❤️❤️

DaffoDeffo · 22/05/2018 18:10

thanks for the tips monte and heart I have seen people standing on a machine! That is probably it! I will look tomorrow....interesting about the protein. I am not eating enough of it I think and need to redo my diet.

gymntonic what is your cholesterol? Mine was 6.7 but has come down to 5.2. I don't have familial hypercholesterolaemia (or however it is spelt!) but we do have high cholesterol/heart issues in my family so I have been trying to follow a lean diet for a year or so now but it's obviously worked cholesterol wise (shame it's not worked weight wise yet!). I think working full time up till now has meant a load of stress and not always watching what I eat - i was probably eating less saturated fat but a lot more of it Biscuit. I would love to get it to under 5. I have another test in July so fingers crossed.

I am about to do the tacos for dinner and tbh I can't see myself avoiding them and going for the chicken soup so I'm going to make a huge salad to go with them and then only have one small one and a load of salad

tomorrow night I am batch cooking a whole load of pasta dishes for the locusts sorry dcs so they have something to help themselves to while doing exams!

today I have had
porridge for breakfast (big bowl) with blueberries
tomato soup with borlotti beans and kale

and I'll have salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, spring onions) with one taco (lean mince, tomatoes, onions garlic and a taco shell) for dinner

did 30 mins hard cardio at gym plus 20 mins weights then did a 30 mins fast walk in the park

DaffoDeffo · 22/05/2018 18:11

and on a day like today obi you'd be mad not to have a Mr Whippy! They normally skimp on the ice cream anyway!

Gymntonic · 22/05/2018 18:46

Daffo was 8.7. GP said anything over 7 equals a script for statins. Had been doing lchf with cheese, butter and cream though.

Will manage a longish walk in the sunshine so might try to hit 20,000 steps after all. Resisting kids' ice cream stash in freezer. Just.

ObiJuanKenobi · 22/05/2018 18:48

DP is starting the Cambridge diet tomorrow. I think it's too extreme for me but will update on how he gets on! I think he's doing 4 liquid meals per day, nothing else except loads of water.
