8 weeks to lose a stone

summerslimmer · 19/05/2018 18:52

Who’s up for losing a stone in the next 8 weeks?
I’ve had a terrible year so far- chronic health problems, 2 miscarriages, depression...
In short I’ve gained a lot of weight and really want to lose at least a stone of it before a holiday in July.
Thinking I’m going to try low carb when possible as that seems to suit my body.
No friends to do this with in real life so does anyone want to join me?

Cheshire, try not to panic.
It’s most likely just water weight and will go quickly - the more water you can drink the quicker it will flush out.

Any chance you’re hormones are playing into it as well?

When you’re on holiday will you be doing (or can you do) lots of walking and extra exercise? Maybe you can load up on veggies rather than carbs at meal times and don’t go mad on drinking.

cheshiremama89 · 06/06/2018 20:57

@milleniumhandandprawn could well be hormones, I'm only 4m postpartum and so I think things are settling down, plus I'm starting the pill again (when I remember).

Will definitely be doing more exercise than I am now so hopefully that will help a little x

How is everyone doing? I feel like I’m struggling these past couple of days. I’ve been hungry for sweet things, caught myself eating a big spoonful of Nutella straight from the jar last night, and just found a jar of jelly beans from my birthday and shoved a load in my mouth crazily. I’m now off for a bike ride to try and work it off!

HotelRoomforOne · 07/06/2018 13:34

Hi Biscuit. Sugar, sugar so addictive. I've also been shovelling the sweet stuff today, although I would really prefer something savoury!!
I now believe it's an addiction like any other. The addict can choose will- power, just having a bit every now and then. Small and sweet on days beginning with S? Or totally cutting it out. I am completely unable to moderate and have to now just say NEVER again, unless it is fresh fruit.
Could you moderate the sweet stuff Biscuit? I wish I couldSad
I went cold turkey with alcohol one day 5 months ago, was also addicted, haven't looked back.
So I have eaten so much chocolate today, all day, and I think for the last time. Good luck Biscuit. Hope you had a lovely bike ride

DaffoDeffo · 07/06/2018 15:16

I don't think I am losing weight but I am definitely getting fitter. Before I started on this thread, I couldn't even run for a minute. Today I ran for 10 mins on the treadmill and I feel SO much fitter which is actually making me a lot happier. I have to force myself to go but when I get there, I am getting something out of it.

I'm not losing any weight though :) but I do have to eat to maintain doing exercise and I too am finding it hard not to reach for the jelly snakes Blush

user1469751309 · 07/06/2018 15:46

Thanks fatneedtobelighterhelp I've just been cutting down all the wrong nice food! No biscuits ect and limited carbs during the day! Not had a great week this week but will see what the scales say this Sunday!

summerslimmer · 07/06/2018 15:49

Shock I'm just getting fatter! I don't understand- I'm really limiting snacks etc and really trying to up the protein. I feel so wobbly - so disheartened with it all.

Hotel thanks, you are right about sugar, I really crave it most days. Biscuits are my favourite (hence the name). If I’m concentrating and feeling positive, I can just have one. But some days I really can’t stop. Well done on the alcohol btw, that’s amazing. OH and I had a good bike ride, 10k on the very hilly back roads around our village. I’m feeling much fitter, like you Daffo which is no bad thing.
Summer do not despair! It will work Smile.
PS I had a really really bad thing for tea. And puddingBlush But I’m doing more cycling tomorrow!

Hectorcat · 07/06/2018 21:26

Hi, can I join you all? I am having a crappy time of it at the moment, but trying to exert some control over my life with running and healthy eating. I have found a food plan on MFP that brings me in just around 1200 cals and am trying to run every day even if it is just for 3km or so.. 5lb down over the last 2 weeks so it seems to be working, but I have visitors this weekend and dinners out etc.. nervous about the impact that will have.

milleniumhandandprawn · 07/06/2018 22:04

Hi all, hi hector

Daffo I bet even if the scales haven’t moved much you’ve probably changed shape - that’s amazing that you’re running 10 x why you were before - that’s ace!

Bloody hormones! They really screw with us. So this morning was gutted that I’d put on a ping since yesterday. Had been super good and was ready to jack it in.

This evening I got my period and now I’m half a pound LIGHTER than I was this morning. Which is crazy with a day’s food and drink inside me! Blooming water retention.

Have done another 5 k this evening and I think I did a personal best! It was in London so mega flat route but am vvvv chuffed!

Sleep well y’all

Tansie1 · 08/06/2018 00:41

I'm 3 weeks and 4 days into The Blood Sugar Diet, which so far has been easier to follow than I dared hope! My downfall is wine, and in that time I've drunk too much about 3 times Blush... but I have tried to compensate by eating less during the day of the social event!

Anyway, I've lost about 11lbs so far- long way to go yet! I started at 14st 2lb and want to get to 12st7lbs.

Good luck to everyone and stay strong!

Gymntonic · 08/06/2018 07:52

Am stuck at same weight all week. Payback for five days of (carefully counted) meals and drinks out. Ignoring the scales and keeping on through gritted teeth. Hopefully will be rewarded on Sunday Halo

HotelRoomforOne · 09/06/2018 01:20

Have had the heaviest, grossest cold for a week, almost 2. My weight has dropped from 63kg to 57kg in a week. I just don't get it. I have very accurate scales. I have struggled so much since my daughter was born two and a half years ago with stubborn, stubborn weight. Now I get a cold and lose 6kg in a week. Havent eaten much (sore throat) but def have been eating and barely moving. So much about weightloss is mysterious to me, hope it will stay off, only 3kg from my goal weight. Not gloating, actually in shock.

Thiswontendwell · 09/06/2018 07:10

Welll
This last week has not been very good - after my weekend excesses I then had a friend to stay and a few calories were consumed...
And my exercise has been woeful!!!! I am SO impressed with all of you active folk!
Hmmm....so summer and others - keep going!!!! There's still plenty of time yet!

Raven88 · 09/06/2018 07:19

@summerslimmer I've struggled with my weight for years and the only way I have managed to lose is by maintaining at least a 1000 calorie deficit a day with a plant based diet and daily exercise. You need a 3500 deficit a week to lose 1 pound.

Thiswontendwell · 09/06/2018 07:24

Also
I'm going away today for a family holiday and it could be tough to stay on track. Wine may beckon (Tansie- I'm going to have to use your tactics!)
I thought I would weigh in a bit earlier this week and I have managed a small loss - I'm at 83.7 Kg now.
My goal is not to put anything on - I'm taking my running stuff...... Grin

earlybyrd · 09/06/2018 07:30

Another one for the blood sugar diet - Ive lost 10 pounds in 16 DAYS ! Which is fast but I've upped my activity at the same time. It does work, it's dropping off and after a mere 48 hours my sugar cravings disappeared

Thiswontendwell · 09/06/2018 09:31

I'm so impressed with all these BSD successes. Like you Earlybird I have upped my activity levels - but only a little bit - and I'm not following the diet slavishly. I haven't had any cravings as such - just felt a bit hungry but I am trying to listen to my body and not shovel food down... When I have had a bit meal I haven't felt so good so that's a bit of an incentive. I am drinking LOADS of water however. (and not drinking quite so much Wine)

I am a bit worried as it does go against all the 'don't crash diet as it will all pile on again' advice. I have done just over 8lbs in just under three weeks so maybe that's not too fast?

Keep going everyone - whatever regime you are choosing!

earlybyrd · 09/06/2018 11:02

Yes Thiswontendwell I thought that but perhaps that's a myth too, usually it's because of reverting to the usual crap diet I imagine.
I think I will stay with the no sugar because now I have more sympathy for my body having to mop all that extra insulin up

I think the best tip EVER has to be - when you are craving a food you will give in eventually as we are programmed not to deny ourselves stuff - replace the bad food with a healthy one you like, really focus on it until you are craving it, then you can reward yourself with it and no harm done Smile

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 09/06/2018 11:17

I'm so glad to read these updates. I am now 5lb down in 2 weeks and feel that it's a bit slow. I'm doing 800 cals low carb (around 30). Do I need to drop carbs further?? I'm not sure how many I should be aiming for.
Congrats to all those who are dropping those pounds - I am craving chocolate still!

summerslimmer · 09/06/2018 13:37

Hi all, thank you for the encouragement :) there is still time and although I've not lost as much as I would have liked yet I'm definitely less bloated and eating a lot less rubbish.
I have thyroid disease and pcos so realistically it may take a little while to see results.
I have finished reading the blood sugar diet book and have perfected my egg poaching skills!
Well done to everyone for sticking with it

DaffoDeffo · 09/06/2018 14:14

Well done everyone! I ate terribly yesterday as I had a party last night (that involved a lot of wine and cream and meringue and cheese argh !!) but am now not eating carbs with dinner but having carbs at breakfast (weetabix with a banana and some berries or porridge). This is making a big difference to my weight I think. I'm actually eating a bit more than before in total calories but I think I needed to as I was so unfit I imagine getting fit is burning a lot!

Looking forward to weigh in as I think I am losing now. Also my period is over and I'm sure I was bloated the whole week I had it!

Am getting headaches but I don't know if this is to do with hayfever or something to do with the lower carbs...

DaffoDeffo · 09/06/2018 14:18

Summer losing with thyroid disease and pcos is doubly hard. You are doing brilliantly. I wonder if you are busy losing fat and getting muscle too. I think I did that for around 4 weeks before anything started happening!

Good that you aren't so bloated. I wonder if you were eating something specifically that made you feel that way.

summerslimmer · 09/06/2018 14:36

DaffoDeffo thank you Smile
I've been eating gluten free for the last 3 weeks so I think that's helped with the bloating.

I shall persevere- if it was easy I guess no one would struggle with their weight

PurpleDaisies · 09/06/2018 17:54

I’ve had a much better week this week. I’ve managed the gym today for two cardio classes and I’ve eaten pretty well. Hopefully it’ll show tomorrow.

I’m trying to get in a specific dress and I’m considering trying it on to see how tight it is. That should be a good motivator!
