Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Oooh - it's not quite a whoosh, but considering the scales didn't look like shifting at all this week, I was very pleased to see a 1.5lb loss this morning Grin Definitely worth not having the pizza last night!!

Lost this week: 1.5 lb
To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 35 lbs
Left to lose: 89 lbs

Week 15
Starting weight 100kg
current weight 89.1kg
this week's loss 1 kg

Really, no kicks needed everybody has bad patches. I've noticed that naturally slim friends sometimes have great big binges and what they tend to do afterwards is let their body recover from the binge by eating minimally and eating less processed things like fruit, veg and nuts. They don't berate themselves for 'slipping' because they don't have body issues, and they know that they enjoyed themselves and will do it again in the future (distant future usually). They just feel more comfortable in their own bodies if they have a few days recovery. It's a bit like when you go on holiday and alternate days visiting museums/attractions with days by the pool. Both things are enjoyable but if you did the entire holiday doing all one or the other you would either be tired out or bored stiff by the end. So don't be tough on yourself, treat yourself and your digestive system with care and that care is putting the right food in.

Also, I'm finding the way that I say things out loud has an effect on how I really feel, sort of fake a skinny person thought process until it becomes your reality. So, when the kids offer me a sweet or treat for instance, instead of saying that I can't, I say that it looks lovely and I'll keep it for after my dinner (if it's something they've made) or that I'm not in the mood for a sweet thing at the moment, maybe another time (if it's just shop bought stuff). And somehow, because I haven't admitted that I'm denying myself something, I don't feel quite as deprived. It doesn't always work, but it definitely helps a bit.

Well done to all the losers this week. Some really fabulous losses this week, especially BreakingSad's milestone.

Congratulations on your new baby Honey Flowers

MapMyMum · 08/10/2017 15:50

Can I join? I have 140lbs to lose in total, and Ive a few ocassions coming up that I want to have at least a few stones off for. Ive been 'trying' to lose for about a year but I go up one down one, up one down half....so frustrating. So I could do with some inspiration and support

ChestyNut · 08/10/2017 19:40

Welcome Map were a friendly bunch Flowers

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 08/10/2017 20:05

Welcome Map, what's your plan of action? How long to you have before your occasions? We are all doing different things on here and we've all tried a lot of different things in the past. We're happy to just be cheerleaders if that's helpful.

MapMyMum · 08/10/2017 21:28

My action plan so far consists of making my lunches the evening before and planning ahead for breakfast and dinner. I also want to drink more water and start moving - this has to be fairly slow and careful as Im almost fully recovered from an operation, but I dont want to risk my recovery by pushing myself too hard, so maybe a gentle 10min walk everyday to begin with and build it up as I feel more able. I have 22 weeks until the first 'do' so Id like to be at least down 3 stone by then. Does that seem acheivable? Thanks for the support already, I had this milling around in my head but writing it down has really cemented my plan! I have done SW before so was thinking of going back to that
What's anyone else doing?

Sillysausage123 · 09/10/2017 07:42

I'm just doing calorie counting and exercising more Map.
I find plans are too restrictive for me where you can only eat things on certain days but everyone I know who has done slimming world loses weight and says you never feel hungry. I wish I could do it but I can't keep to all the rules so I do my own thing which seems to be working

Hello everyone,
Sorry was MIA for a couple of weeks. My scales broke and finally bought new ones last night.
So did my weigh in today at 105.4kg.
So it looks like I put on 1.8kg in week 29 and 30. Or the old scales weren't really accurate.... will never find out, I suppose.
Off to read the whole thread now

Sillysausage123 · 09/10/2017 19:17

Is anyone else really worried about loose skin?
I've not lost a huge amount and I can already see loose skin on my arms and thighs and I'm almost thinking is it worth it to have a load of loose skin which already looks awful and god knows what me belly will look like after I've lost 100 pounds Sad

Nicpem1982 · 09/10/2017 19:23

Would love to join this thread as I've just embarked on my weight loss mission again but I'm feeling super motivated.

I 18 stone 10 and want to get to 12 stone so a long way to go

I've had a good first couple of days and am using the slimming World plan. I've made my work lunches for the next 4 days and have a meal plan ready

Good luck everyone

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 09/10/2017 20:32

Welcome Map and Nic and hello again to sw Smile Hugs to chesty and notanurse - I hope things pick up for both of you Flowers

Silly - I am a little concerned about loose skin, but I'm not really seeing any yet. There are some fab stories on MyFitnessPal of people who have lost a huge amount of weight, and very little loose skin, so I think it can be done. I'm planning on shifting a bit more, and then I'm going to ramp up my exercise, which I think should help. Be interested to hear what others have found.

I'm still really struggling with tiredness, so I think a trip to the docs is in order. I can easily sleep 10+ hours at the moment, which is far more than is normal for me. I made a veg-packed chili this evening, and it has bloody knackered me! All that chopping...I am obviously not used to hard labour Blush. I had it on top of a massive bed of lettuce, which was filling and more enjoyable than a baked potato with some salad on the side, so I'm going to keep that going Smile

KOKO you losers Wink

Notanurse- hi I too am exhausted and not sleeping well and this leads me to comfort eat junk as I'm too tired to cook.

I visited my docs and after me insisting it wasn't stress they completed some bloods and it turns out I have a vitamin deficiency which is leaving me exhausted and irritable. So after some injections last week and a course of b6 I'm starting to feel better maybe worth a visit?

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 11/10/2017 17:16

Hi all, can I join? I have about 140Ib to lose...I've absolutely no idea where to start and frankly I'm so scared I'm going to bloody die before I sort it.

After that dramatic hello Wink I'm really hoping I can have a bit of a hand hold and verbal slap!

I downloaded My fitness pal and made a real effort to do 10,000 steps today (I'm up to 8.5k but hopefully will get the last 1500 in on the way home from work)

I'm just so scared of failing. Again

PostNotInHaste · 11/10/2017 19:19

Chesty!really sorry to hear you've had bad news Flowers Very impressed that you did book buying instead of eating to deal with it though and well done on the loss. Really hope today didn't bring further bad news.

Well done on this week's loss and great pizza control NoTractors I think GP visit sounds sensible to check everything out.

SWlondonnanny agree that change of scales can throw things out. I'd ignore the difference scmuch as possible.

Notanurse wise words from BlackAmericano. Maybe don't think of it as a blip but as life, these times will keep happening but the difference is we are all dealing with them and keeping at it. Sorry to hear things are stressful Flowers If you get too hacked off maybe a maintenance phase? I watched a podcast by some guy who was going on about leptin levels and how he feels that you need time in maintenance to get them back up again so potentially if he is right then there are physical benefits as well as psychological benefits from eating at maintenance for a bit.

Well done on the loss BlackAmericano .interesting how you have found use of language can help.

MapmyMum that target is doable but will potentially be hard work . Great you're nearly recovered from surgery. Maybe give it a couple of weeks and see how you go and then maybe review your target?

Sillysausage my skin is holding up relatively well at the moment. Bit on my legs at the moment but personally I would much rather lose skin and the health benefits of a lower BMI so if I get it I'll live with it is what I've decided.

Nicpem welcome and good to hear the first few days have gone well Smile

Welcome Ihopeyoustep MFP and walking is an excellent start. Fully get how scared you feel and the failing again bit. I think we can all relate to that but are learning it doesn't have to be that way. There will be good bits and difficult bits but the difficult bits can be got through. The key is what we call KOKO (keep on keeping on) One bad meal/day/week does not ruin the whole thing. The key to succeeding this time is your behaviour when things go wrong, that's the really important thing. I think you've done brilliantly to have done 8.5k steps which is more than a lot of people.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 12/10/2017 10:04

Thank you post Smile

I went on a quick walk before work to get my steps up (quite a surprise to even me! You can normally find me in McDonald's having breakfast when I'm early for work!) and have properly considered lunch and dinner in order to have a treat tonight) Thursday is my Friday so I really enjoy an hour of crap tv and a treat of an evening...which is normally several ridiculous treats! So I'm still going to allow my self something as long as I have enough calories left on MFP)

It's such early days but I feel in a different mindset then before, normally I'd plan to have my huge treat and think "well if I'm having that then there's no point in NOT having crap food all day aswell"

Fingers crossed!

PostNotInHaste · 12/10/2017 11:27

That sounds great Lego , a huge well done on a very positive start. Your plan for tonight sounds really good, I think it is probably how thin peoples' minds work naturally- can have a treat, but it has to fit in. I've found that depriving yourself fully has a detrimental effect long term for me so work things into my calorie allowance that I want. It varies throughout the month how much I feel I need to.

Those 10k steps are good for your health and will give you some flexibility on the food front and make it easier to plan round meals out etc and are another tool to deal with when your fuck it button goes off !

BreakingSad · 12/10/2017 14:48

Welcome Newbies and great start Lego.

Flowers* for Chesty and Notanurse*

Those of use that use Fitbit and MFP, I’ve been using the data from my Fitbit a lot more (I still log everything on MFP) having a 1000 calorie deficit to get 2lbs a week loss, which seems to be working better for me. But a quick question if any of you use it, if you wanted to go maintenance, do you just eat up to the calories you’ve burned on the Fitbit or do you change the settings on there or MFP.

That’s of course if you understood what I’ve put Grin

swlondonnanny · 12/10/2017 15:32

Hello everyone Smile having unexpected couple of days off so doing menu planning, cooking, stocking up freezer with beef stew and chicken stock Grin and catching up on admin...
IHope Welcome. I think I saw you on some other threads. Great start. I had about same weight to lose at the beginning ( well if I wanted to get to my 'ideal' weight...) I actually refused to even think about that number as it sound like an impossible thing to do. Instead I started to think in BMI brackets. To get under 40 first (started around 43). Than 35. Now it is 30 which is my next goal (this bit is taking me forever I have to say, currently 32.2 I think...) Might have a proper break and maintain for a while once I am under 30.
I am pretty much not doing any other exercise other than walking which I can do at work while pushing the buggy getting to places we need to get to and just using the bus as little as possible. I am doing low carb high fat which works quite well but also randomly use MFP as well (more to monitor the macros than calories)
It is so scary to think about failing (again) but we just need to carry on, don't we?
Welcome Sillysausage and Fattymcfaterson
Sillysausage I started to fit into seatbelt on planes when my BMI was around 38 I think (can't remember my weight) but I am fairly tall at 5.11 so I always have more issues with legroom, really. Re the carbs on low carb diet. I am aiming at between 30 and 50 a day. This is because of my thyroid issues and it is not recommended to go under 30 for my condition. So nothing strict like under 20 some people do. If you are interested there is a new bootcamp which started on Monday which is always very supportive and quite a few ladies are very knowledgeable about this WOE.

swlondonnanny · 12/10/2017 16:23

Chesty sorry you are going through such a stressful time and we'll done on finding a way to deal with it. I find reading very relaxing as well.
I really hope your MIL appointment went well and she is fine.
PostNot interesting about leptin levels and how some time in maintenance helps. Off to Google and listen to it. I read quite a bit about leptin/leptin levels/ leptin resistance. Would explain my stall in last 2-3mnths. Thank you for mentioning this, I find it very useful. It's great to understand the 'science ' behind the weight loss (especially for me with my thyroid issues which were messing up my metabolism ever since I was a child) More omega 3 and sleep seems to be a good way to deal with this...
Well done to getting to your summer of 95 weight!!!! Must feel so good... also you are nearly a year into your weight loss. And what a difference that one year made! Well done

swlondonnanny · 12/10/2017 16:46

noanurse sorry you are going through a stressful time and are not sleeping well Flowers hope it will get better and you can have a proper sleep soon.
NoTractors hope the doctor will be able to run some tests for you and you'll get less tired soon.
Breaking great scale victory, nearly half way through! I don't use MFP as much as some other ladies here but I never eat the exercise calories so for maintance I would change MFP setting to higher calories. Hope that makes sense
Honey congratulations on your new baby
BlackAmericano how do you find your 16:8? That's essentially what you are doing with skipping the breakfast, isn't it? I do the same and I am really not hungry till lunchtime. But read loads of conflicting articles about it, some claiming breakfast is important and it is better to skip dinner. Don't know how that would work though...
