Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

total to lose 91lb

BreakingSad · 05/10/2017 13:36

Welcome Fattymcfaterson

Well done PostNot and BoredOnMatLeave and hope DD is well soon.

I’ll be weighing in tomorrow, as tomorrow evening we’re off out for DS Birthday.

PostNotInHaste · 05/10/2017 14:48

Well done Bored, getting close to that first stone off now.

Welcome Fattymcfaterson . Remember well that awful moment last year when I bought scales and went on them for the first time and being told by the GP I was to fat to be referred for gallbladder surgery. You've started now and that is brilliant. We're all doing different things as really important that you do something that you feel suits your lifestyle and fits with your mindset. You can always change later . That plate thing you read about has really worked well for me as ours were huge. Asda do some good sized ones cheaply.

Nice end to the week. BreakingSad, meal out . My Dad is down this week so takeaway will be featuring in my weekend, quite fancy a chicken tikka.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 05/10/2017 18:58

Well done to losers, and welcome to newbies Smile

I think I'm on for precisely no loss this week. I had a sneaky hop on the scales in the hope that my whoosh from last week had continued into this week, but it appears not... we'll see what Saturday brings! Wink

How many carbs should I be having on a low carb diet?
I have tried googling but the answers vary dramatically.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 05/10/2017 21:59

Welcome Fattymcfaterson, will you be needing a name change in the near to mid future? Grin

Sillysausage123, Diabetes.co.uk have a low carb programme that a friend of mine is doing and recommends. Here. It takes you through reducing carbs step-by-step and it's supposed to be sustainable rather then the ultra-low carb diets which are quite tough going. However I didn't want to be counting or calculating anything, and I didn't want to completely change what I cook as I know that the DC will (mostly) eat what I currently make. So I generally make dinner as normal but have a third of a portion of carbs, with extra green veg and some extra protein to fill me up. That also works well for restaurants, I have whatever I fancy but only eat a third of whatever carb comes with the meal. I can't cook/eat things that are inherently carby, like risotto, friend rice or pasta bake (Italian restaurants aren't great for me) but all the stuff that the DC will eat is still mostly fine, casseroles, roast chicken, salmon fillets, curry, sausages, steak (mmm, steak) etc.

Lunch was the most difficult meal to change as I used to almost always have a sandwich. Now I tend to have things like one piece of wholemeal toast with humus and a load of celery to dip into the rest of the humus, or tuna mayonnaise with half a tin of chickpeas and some diced cucumber, or cheese omelette with either chopped veg in it or salad with it. Basically protein, with a little carb and something veg-based to crunch on.

I skip breakfast about 4 or 5 days a week, so that I have a nice long fast. I'm always less hungry in the mornings anyway. If I do have breakfast it's always reasonably protein based, 3 scrambled eggs on on slice of wholemeal toast if I'm home or perhaps a full Irish (without bread or potato) if I'm meeting a friend for breakfast.

I only snack between lunch and dinner (if I have breakfast then I try to have a non-carb lunch) and I usually snack on cheese or nuts.

Loosing weight wasn't my main aim (I needed to reduce my blood glucose) but I lost 10kg in about 11 weeks. Since then I've been gaining and loosing the same kilo so I probably need to add something else to my system. Possibly cutting down on cheese and nuts as they are very calorific. (That was long, sorry for the essay.)

Brilliant milestone BreakingSad! This keeping on chipping away at it makes a big difference over time doesn't it?!

honeysucklejasmine · 06/10/2017 10:59

Hi all! Jumping back in again. Quick recap - I joined thread with a BMI of 44 back on thread one. I lost about 26lbs before falling pregnant and so off the extreme loss train.

Baby was born this week (ds1, very cute) and I'm back! I've not weighed myself yet, no scales around. But my brother has some so may pop over to his to use them later! Be interested to know what my weight is now. I'd only gained a few lbs in pregnancy and ds was just shy of 8lbs, plus waters, placenta etc. So hopefully I'm still near my 26 ish lb loss weight.

Anyway, will let you know and will be back to weekly weigh ins soon. We're moving house in a fortnight so will prob aim to get sorted with that first, then back to it. .

612lbs in a huge achievement, well done everyone!!

BoredOnMatLeave · 06/10/2017 11:22

Congrats on your DS Honey. Amazing that your thinking about it so soon, it's taken me 14 months to get motivated after DD was born!

Congratulations Honey on your DS

It certainly does PostNot the KOKO is key.

honeysucklejasmine · 06/10/2017 12:32

Thanks ladies. Bored after DD was born I ballooned - I didn't gain in pregnancy but boy did I afterwards. Not going down that road again.

I need snack ideas! Cluster feeding is going to end my hopes if I don't get some healthy snacks ready. Things I can eat with one hand and are easy to wipe off a baby's head ideally! 😂

BoredOnMatLeave · 06/10/2017 13:01

honey, that's exactly what happened to me. I was overweight before I fell pregnant but didn't gain much in pregnancy and was the same weight as pre pregnancy by 4 weeks (DD was 10lb6 to be fair!), but I gained about 2 more stone in maternity leave going out for lunches etc Blush

PostNotInHaste · 06/10/2017 14:52

Honeysuckle huge congratulations Flowers Love the fact that we have a baby on board !

ChestyNut · 06/10/2017 16:29

Honey congratulations Flowers

Had some shitty news this week, reflex to stuff my face but I didn't, I bought a book from the series I'm reading at a bargain 99p.
Yay me Halo

Excellent work losers!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 06/10/2017 17:23

Congrats honey! I remember surreptitiously licking guacamole off DS when he was a babe. It was in a cafe, not even my own home! Blush

It's been a looooong week at work, and I could really murder a pizza right now, but I've got a massive chicken salad so I'm going to feast on that instead Smile
