Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Tractors got to love the batshit though Grin I’m going to do the food shop and then settle in for an afternoon of tittering at the angst!

notanurse I may have peeked at the 2000 calorie thread Hmm

OJZJ · 11/03/2018 11:15

Hi, thanks for the welcome. I have done so many vlcd in the past but I am an all or nothing girl and when I fell off it was spectacular ( I try to remember the theory of: if you drop your phone and crack the screen slightly you dont think " oh well!" And jump on it until its totally smashed-so why do that with your diet...unfortunately its not working at the moment )so with slimfast its the 3,2,1 approach and works out around 1500 cals a day but I NEED the portion control and my snacks tend to be coffee if I am honest I don't use their snacks as can't have gluten (or milk but tend to lapse with that one on occasion, usually a chocolate occasion, can't lapse with gluten as makes me far too ill) at least with this I don't have to be constantly worrying about "being in ketosis" as per vlcd... trying to read the threads on this. You have all done so well!

ChestyNut · 11/03/2018 11:56

OJ having done a VLCD losing 6 stone and regaining 8 stone in 18 months I am not a fan Sad for me it exacerbates the binge cycle. Quick loss quick gain.

Do you have meals with slim Fast? I’m not familiar with it.

OJZJ · 11/03/2018 13:03

ChestyNut yep shake for breakfast and lunch, 3 x 100kcal snacks and one meal of upto 600kcals (800kcals for men)
I quite often do the m&s count on us or balanced for you cap controlled meals so again it is portion controlled and i can measure my cals better

honeysucklejasmine · 11/03/2018 14:31

My husband asked this morning if I preferred MFP or SW which I've done in the past. I'm finding the weight loss pretty similar, but I feel I am learning better habits now. I am eating way more fruit and veg, and my portion control is much better too. On SW I could eat my weight in pasta and still be on plan, but that's not really very healthy. With calorie counting I am learning skills for life - how many calories are in things, what a portion looks like, and how to not snack... So hopefully when I'm done with this journey I won't just regain it all again. If that makes sense.

AnotherOtter · 11/03/2018 16:06

I've STS this week and feeling unreasonably disappointed about it. I had a bad binge day on Monday and have basically spent the rest of the week compensating for that. Feels like a waste. The binge was pure emotional eating: stressed about my physical health symptoms, stressed about my mood, pissed off about side-effects of new medication and stressed about my poor wee car. Honestly thought I was mostly past this but obviously not as this is my second bad binge of the year. I'm not sure what to do, any advice?

Well done BangingOn resisting the high calorie food. Working for a confectionery company must be really tough when trying to lose weight!

Nearly at 100lbs off Post! You are doing so well Smile Interesting what you wrote about being more aware of the seasons. I grew up in a very rural area so think that made me more aware but also my mood is heavily dependent on the season as is a lot of my hospital friends. We have this conversation that the 'normals' don't even know what season it is but it dominates our lives while they always know what day it is and we can't remember!

Sorry to hear you got a UTI, LittleBear. I am still not over the one I got in the New Year. They are a nightmare. How are you feeling now?

Honey, best of luck with the dietary restrictions. Hope it helps your baby boy. Was going to recommend my gluten free bread as it doesn't have soy in it but unfortunately it has egg so that's no use.

Great clothes NSV B1!

That's awful that you had another gallstone attack, Notanurse. This is no good that you are having to wait so long for your operation. That Netflix programme sounds interesting and I will look it up.

Great news that your household is on the mend, Chesty, and hope your eye heals soon. Don't read those fucking threads about food and weight loss in Chat and definitely not in AIBU! They are full of nonsense. Listen to your dietitian: she is the only one that has the full information.

Well done for logging everything, Moonlight. I think you should be proud of yourself for making that change.

You are totally right about the Mumsnet batshittery today, Tractors. There are some crackers threads. Twitter is also losing its mind though that's not unusual.

Welcome OJZJ. Good luck with your plan.

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 11/03/2018 17:23

AnotherOtter Luckily it's cleared up, which I'm thankful for. I've had some very bad ones in the past.

It's completely understandable to be feeling put out! I binge eat quite badly when I'm not feeling good. I've taken to not having certain foods in the flat. I make up little sugar free jelly pots which are a sweet fix. My downfall has always been things like burgers, bread, and rice. Could eat those forever. I think allowing yourself to eat what you want now and then, but recognising it, is okay.

fezzesarecool · 11/03/2018 22:49

Hi all

Is it ok to join? Something’s actually clicked finally that I need to seriously do something instead of just thinking about it

I’ve started at 19st 3lb almost 4 weeks ago 😞 First time I’ve actually told anyone my weight

Anyway I’ve managed to start slowly doing a exercise dvd and stuck to it for almost four weeks now and it’s had a knock on affect of watching what I eat which I’ve started calorie counting last week

It’s something I’m doing and not telling anyway in RL about so it would be great to have some support

So going to do the official, track it in my planner weigh in this week, eek

OuaisMaisBon · 12/03/2018 07:11

Hello, fezzesarecool, good luck with your new start and tracking!

This is my first week checking in here, though I started working on losing weight at the beginning of the year - and the results are in!
Started 15/01/2018
Total to lose: 100lb
Lost this week: 1.25lb
Total lost: 6.25lb
Still to lose: 93.75lb

I got a bit derailed by a website which tells me that if I eat anything at all I like, as long as it amounts to between 1300 and 1800 cals a day, I will lose weight. I'm not sure this is necessarily the right way to go for me, but not feeling hungry at around 1500 calories a day is definitely a good thing for me and makes it feel more sustainable!

Good luck to everyone for your next week, onwards and downwards!

honeysucklejasmine · 12/03/2018 07:34

fez welcome! I started at 19lbs 4oz. It will soon come off, don't worry! I also kept it quiet at first, just logging it and chipping away at it. Now I'm starting to see a difference I am starting to talk about it.

Ouais well of course in theory that's true, but I'm not sure I'd make good choices - 1500 cals of chocolate and crisps... Hmm.

NSV today - I bought some trousers online from Matalan last summer. They weren't the usual jersey fabric so have sat unworn in my wardrobe since. Today, they fit. My dd has Tumble Tots today so hopefully I can bend and flex in them later... Might have to change because I don't want to damage them, but I'm still claiming victory.

OJZJ · 12/03/2018 07:43

honeysuckle
Good luck with the trousers. ... remember bending down at work retreiving a debit card that had been thrown at me whilst dealing with a "difficult customer" and splitting my trousers....
Well got weighed today and realistically I need to lose 125lb
But if I start with losing 100lb then maybe start a 2 stone club I a year or so Grin I started doing a monthly weigh in with the nurse so need to lose 7lb by next week just to be the same as when she weighed me a month agoBlush

fezzesarecool · 12/03/2018 07:57

Thanks for letting me join, exciting to be somewhere I can actually talk about this and it so encouraging to be in the same boat with others that are getting real results.

I’ve tried to do a bit of meal planning this week and hopefully will be able to stick to it and there’s a allowance built into the week if I have a day where I crave something ‘bad’ so I can have it guilt free but if I don’t use it then bonus!

Got the school run soon so going to have a yorgurt with creal and the when I’m back in then going to do my exercise dvd (that means attemp what I can and making up my own moves half the time!)

Then once my son’s down for his nap going to batch cook a tuna sauce to freeze and take the effort out of having homemade food in the house before my daughter’s clubs tonight.

Hope everyone has a great day and looking forward to reading the thread and seeing what everyone’s done later today.

B1rdonawire · 12/03/2018 08:08

Hello to OJ, Ouais, and Fezzes! I recognise those starting numbers all too well, they are just your start point they are not your whole story. You can do this.

After last week's' frustration - and the protest croissant Wink - I am just over a lb off today, phew. I have been really focused and even managed no "because I deserve it" choc yesterday for Mother's Day. I bought some new underwear and a notebook instead, and had a fun day out with DD.

Total lost: 49lbs (finally hit 3.5 stone, that half stone has been a struggle)

Hang in there AnotherOtter, sorry to hear you had a hard week. How are you going to take good care of yourself this week? I think you need a bit of nurture, not self-blame.

Well done on the trousers Honeysuckle what a great feeling!

OJZJ · 12/03/2018 09:48

Had any one tried orlistat? Or tried it and its worked for them... I got offered it by the nurse at my GPs office but reluctant to try as it has so many side effects...

moonlight1705 · 12/03/2018 12:25

I tried orlistat and lets put it like this - I had to go buy new pants and trousers one day at work as a small little breaking of wind did not end well!

It was horrible with the side effects and I don't think it actually helped that much with weight loss.

RavenLG · 12/03/2018 12:25

Hi again all.
Had a very bad weekend as had my girlfriends visit for the weekend. Have a fab weekend in terms of laughing and making memories, awful in terms of food and drink. But somehow I’ve only managed a half a pound gain! Back on it today even though I’m still feeling the alcohol effects haha!

Fezzes - meal planning definitely helps me keep on track, if I don’t plan I go to pot! Hopefully it helps you too!!

fezzesarecool · 12/03/2018 12:33

Hopefully meal planning will stop me thinking about food so much!

I’m working on writing out little menus so I can just pick off a list instead of having to work it all out

Has anyone got a Happy Planner fitness planner? I want to see what the page layouts look like I’m currently making up my own food and exercise diary and adding it in the back of my planner but want something more private

fezzesarecool · 12/03/2018 15:49

My husband just dropped dd home.

I told him a few menu ideas and then said that I was having one of the ideas listed and he could have something completely different if her wanted.

It seems I’ve not been as stealthy as I thought, he used the d word! He said he could do with being on a d too and would eat the same as me.

To which I replied, I’m not on a d, I’m just being careful and flounced off!

Honestly, he’s trying to jinx the whole thing before it’s started!

OJZJ · 12/03/2018 19:19

Thanks moonlight that's what worries me!
I remember a woman having a similar accident at a slimming club years ago it went all over her skirt, bless her she hasn't even realised until we told her and someone lent her a jacket to "cover her modesty"
I don't tho I have heard any positive stories about it apart from the nurse trying to promote it in all honesty... hmmm will leave it for now then unless someone convinces me otherwise Grin

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 12/03/2018 20:06

What a chatty bunch Smile There seems to be an awful lot of Mother's Day threads still kicking about, but I figured it was safe to reappear now...!

We have 80 or so posts until this thread is filled - if no-one else feels a burning desire to do so, I'll pop a new one up tomorrow night. We most likely won't do 80 posts in a day, but to be on the safe side, if you're all super chatty, make sure you leave me one post so I can link to the new thread Grin.

I'm feeling positive about this week - need to get my arse moving a bit more, but I've made a good start. Going to cement it with an early night and continue into tomorrow Wink

Moonandstars84 · 12/03/2018 20:20

Well I had a calorific day on Sunday with a meal out and too much wine. Ended up with a bout of d and v. Not the best way to lose weight.
Some great losses again. Well done.
I set my target based on the fantastic advice given.
Welcome to newbies.

honeysucklejasmine · 12/03/2018 20:46

I'm going to be really annoying now... I've got loads of calories left today. My lunch was minestrone soup which was only 150 calories. I had some houmous and carrot sticks with it but I've still got about 500 cals left. I'm a bit stuck, I've eaten mostly carbs today so need a high fat high protein snack. Sorry to be a wanker. Grin

Tbh though, I don't want to be eating too little, that's not healthy. I don't really know how to snack without carbs. I need a carrier for peanut butter which isn't a carb! Confused

moonlight1705 · 12/03/2018 20:54

My mum loves these as a carrier for cheese and pate....wonder if it would work for peanut butter honey

Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3
OJZJ · 12/03/2018 21:45

honey sliced apple and peanut butter. .. trouble is i cant have peanut butter in the house as I am still THAT child who dips her fingers into it....

honeysucklejasmine · 13/03/2018 05:01

moonlight they sound lovely and ordinarily I'd be making some to try, but I can't eat egg at the moment. I will be checking packets of similar products in the shops though, thank you!

OJ Oooh now there's an idea. My DH is a heathen who eats it with celery, eugh. But apple would work!
