Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Honeysuckle I really hope the diet change improves things for your poor DSFlowers

Moonandstars it is my mission in life to be able to eat as many calories as possible to be honest! I know as I get older iI’ll have to cut down so I’m aiming to do that from a decent level (to my mind) of calories. I do mine as a weekly pot and it usually works out as more at the weekend and a couple of lighter days in the week. I aim for 80% good quality food leaving room for other bits but accept this won’t always happen. When it does ‘t I run with it, don’t feel guilty and KOKO.

LittleBear it’s hard at the start. Most of us have a history of failed dieting so that in itself causes an underlying level of anxiety in itself and the worry history will repeat itself. We can all tell you it will be fine but I bet your brain takes time to believe it. What happens over time is if you take it steady, keep on plugging away, you’lol find you gradually start to feel in control and the pounds add up to become a decent amount of weight loss plus you start to feel the benefits.

As it takes a long time to lose the amounts we’re looking at there are inevitably a number of tests and hurdles to get through - birthdays, holidays, Easter, Christmas and nights out. Dealing with them and getting through helps our brain get that these things can happen , we can enjoy them and life plus weightloss goes in and gradually that slightly gnawing feeling and self doubt goes away and you feel more confident about going on. One thing a few of us have found is that taking a break and eating at maintenance can really help. I think we all have to accept that there will be a few gains along the way and weeks where the scales stay the same as weight loss isn’t linear but KOKO and it all comes good. Really recommend measuring yourself as somet8mes the tape measure moves when the scale doesn’t and great record to look back on, I can see looking at mine I’ve lost 14 inches from my waist which blows my mind a bit!

If anyone’s plates are big I recommend getting smaller ones, there is loads of research to show a smaller plate helps you feel fuller . Asda do a good size white one for £1. I’ve also been reading some research on the benefit of green spaces and interacting to our general well being and mental health so this is something I personally am focusing on as part of being kind to myself. I’m finding being more aware of the seasons quite grounding and I think they probably do relate to weight loss. I read that modern day life is a tiny bit of our evolution and if it was a week to think of it as 11pm on the 7th day. I guess we’re designed to slow down a bit in the winter and eat higher calorie food to build reserves in the winter then more fresh food available in the summer combined with longer days. We’ve noticed on the thread that we seem to have a collective dip in mood a bit when the clocks change (coming up soon!) but it passes and we adjust.

Right enough of my vague ramblings , I need to get some porridge down me and my much smaller than it was arse off to Parkrun through a country park to get my nature dose and so I can eat takeaway when my Dad visits this evening. Don’t want to but I know i’ll Feel good when it’s done .

Postnot what are you going to grow in your allotment? I want to grow some garden veggies this year, in a very small way as I have form for abandoning the plants once they're big enough to go outside I am having a lot of old shrubs removed from our tiny garden, and new lawn and a raised bed put in. Very excited. Like you, I want to try and get outside more through all weathers this year - I never want to get started and then always, always feel better afterwards.

So far, the few days of one no-carb meal have been fine. I've tended to choose lunch, but mysteriously it's seemed to make me snack less even in the evenings. Yesterday I went clothes shopping (genuinely cannot remember the last time I did this outside of a supermarket, at least 3 years...) and bought a white shirt in a size 14. Now, it's a very stretchy 14, but still I reckon I was a 22 8 months ago. Eek!

Good luck with the bread making Honeysuckle I really really hope your poor DS is soon more comfy.

LittleBear today is a new day, with no mistakes in it yet, as Anne of Green Gables said. You can move on positively and have a great day Smile

Well done notanurse and thanks for the recommendation - I will find that series on Netflix.

I've STS this week - had a couple of glasses of wine last night (and a couple more...) which may account for that. Back on it today Smile

Afternoon. Been out for lunch today. We went to Chimichangas. My husband is from the South West of the US and loves mexican food, so thought we'd go there instead of the usual pizza pasta place. Wasn't easy ordering within my new food restrictions, but had guacamole and tortillas to start, chicken, rice, Pico de Gallo and (swapped the soy containing beans for) a side salad. The "mojito sorbet" which was lovely. I'm really pleased that I went out, had a yummy meal, within my allergy restrictions and with a not too horrifying calorie count either. I don't feel hard done by at all.

Also, DD ate chicken for the first time. I've cooked it for her loads of times but apparently the chef at Chimichangas does it better. Meh. I'd be offended but she rarely eats meat at all so I'm thrilled. (She's not a fan of high protein food in general.)

Weighing in tomorrow morning. I am so close to having lost 2 stone since I started back in 2016. Which sounds pathetic but I did do another baby between then and now!

Notanurse I hope the gall stones attack wasn't too bad. A friend has gallbladder issues too and it sounds awful.

ChestyNut · 10/03/2018 17:01

Evening all.

I’m back from quarantine, cold better still bit wheezy and knackered. ChestyDog went back for a check up, ulcer healing nicely, carry on with eye drops.
I thought I’d join him and optician says I have an allergy in one eye, lumps on eyeball Envy Drops and no contacts for a week. I HATE wearing glasses.
Thanks for thinking of us nurse otterFlowers
post I’m crossing my fingers for a loss and that last weeks gain was indeed hormonal water weight.

Just been reading the binge thread in chat, makes me more confused. The disordered voice inside thinks “look they eat all that and it’s ok”

Just cooked a chilli for tea, smells delish.

Hope everyone is doing ok FlowersBrew

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 10/03/2018 17:23

Chesty I'm glad you and ChestyDog are on the mend. I actively avoid all weight-related threads unless they are in 'weightloss chat' - the conflicting advice, judgements, and occasional bile just don't do anything for my mental health. It just leads to extra chatter in my head that I don't need Blush.

Chilli sounds good - it has just rained all day here, so I think something 'bright' and veg packed is needed this evening!

Glad you're on the up, Chesty. I spend the whole summer not wearing contacts as hayfever gets me and they are too uncomfortable. I treated myself to some prescription sunglasses last summer which made me less resentful of not wearing contacts. (Usually it's contacts plus sunglasses as prescription ones are expensive and I always lose them.)

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 10/03/2018 18:27

Start Weight: 19st 9.5lbs
Lost This Week: 4lbs (Week 2)
Lost So Far: 9.5lbs
Current Weight: 19st 0 lbs
Target Weight: Not 100% sure but around the 12st 7lbs mark?
Weight to Target: 6st 7lbs going by that

Hope posting in this format was okay. Think that is the last of the initial water weight.

Post Thank you for the kind advice. I will go take a look at those plates, we've finally got some nice plates from Next that are white so hopefully they might match!

Chesty Glad ChestyDog is on the mend. Hope your eye is okay, I hate prescription sunglasses because they're so expensive and you can't change the style.

NoTractors Chilli sounds awesome! DP has requested mince and dumplings. Think I'll be giving the dumpling half of that a miss!

Honeysuckle Glad you managed to find things that aligned with the allergies - sounds like you made good choices!

Notanurse I hope you are feeling okay, that sounds horrible. Your weight loss is amazing.

B1rd That must be a fantastic feeling! I don't have any smaller clothes so will have to go shopping when I shrink!

PostNotInHaste · 10/03/2018 18:41

Well done NotaNurse definitely think it is worth celebrating milestones, I think actually we’ve all been a bit reticent in doing so thinkin* about it. Really sorry to hear about the gallstone attack, would it be worth ringing and asking for an update - could you lay it on a bit thick and say they are becoming frequent and randomly? Will look up that program, thanks for recommendation.

Well done on STS Tractors Agree wine may well have masked a loss, hopefully show next week.

Honey that’s great DD ate chicken, both of mine were very fussy and I remember the many meals cooked and rejected. DS has improved hugely now DD cooks a lot, she looks at him and says ‘eat’ in a scary time and he does ! 2 stone down plus a baby is flipping brilliant !

Chesty glad you are improving but sorry you’re still under the weather Flowers. Fingers crossed for a loss thi# week for you but main thing Is to focus on getting well again. I find a lot of threads on here can play with my mind, there are so many opposing views. I think Tractors policy of avoiding the ons not in weighloss is a sensible one.

B1rd I’m going to do some new potatoes, borlotti beans, butternut squash, pumpkins, broad beans, Florence fennel, chard, spinach, sweet corn, rhubarb, strawberries, gooseberries, Black, red and white currants. At home courgettes, French beans, lettuce and herbs and have garlic as shallots on the go plus cucumber, tomatoes, chilli and aubergines in the greenhouse. Exciting garden renovation underway at yours, what sort of veg do you want to do? Borlotti beans are easy once in as long as have something to climb and avoid the frosts and look nice on a wigwam giving a bit of height. You leave them well alone then apart from encouraging round the poles a bit until the autumn. Rainbow chard is easy and can just leave it to do it’s thing picking a bit every so often. Strawberries are leave and pick kind of thing generally and Lidl have the, at the moment. That’s great you’ve shrunk all those sizes!

My Dad is visiting, takeaway for tea!

honeysucklejasmine · 10/03/2018 19:16

bear not going to lie, I really wanted DD's crispy fried chicken.

Post I'm surprised DD hasn't turned in to a peanut butter sandwich, the number of them she eats. 😂 My sneaky pre weigh in this morning puts me 1lb away from 2 stone. Not sure I'll make it this week, but next week it's mine! 😊

honeysucklejasmine · 10/03/2018 19:17

Oh, forgot to say, had mushroom and spinach Bolognese tonight. It's was yummy.

honeysucklejasmine · 11/03/2018 08:09

Omg!!

To lose: 102 lbs
Lost this week: 3lbs (!!!)
Lost to date: 28lbs (woooo 2 stone!)
To go: 74lbs

And DS hasn't eaten yet this morning so probably carry an extra 1/2lb of fluid at the moment 😂

Yay! I'm so pleased! I can do this! I'm going to do this!

moonlight1705 · 11/03/2018 08:13

I've had quite a bad week eating wise but I've logged every mouthful on MFP so at least that's something.

STS which is not too bad really.

Moonandstars84 · 11/03/2018 08:46

Starting weight 226 pounds
Lost this week 4pounds week 2
Total lost 7 pounds
Target 119 pounds approx
100 to go on the nose.

Moonandstars84 · 11/03/2018 08:49

I have been weighing myself regularly and most of the loss was as the beginning of the week. Feel loss is now slowing down.
Just found a photo on Facebook iof me at my most recent lowest weight of 12 1/2 stone and screenshot it.

OJZJ · 11/03/2018 09:07

Is anybody starting in2018?
Please may I join.... lost a stone and a half in Jan and gained it back again in Feb.. need to lose over 100lb but would settle for that as can barely move some days .... starting afresh today and really kick assing it tomorrow i lost the weight with slimfast vitality vegan (not vegan just lactose intolerant) I used the ordinary vitality with but milk and lactase tabs but it has a strange blancmange like texture. ...going back on slimfast tomorrow *my stomach is still bloated from yesterday's gluten free chippy fish and chips I did a 30 mile round trip for Grin ...

Moonandstars84 · 11/03/2018 09:21

Hi ojzj. I am new here too. Welcome. In 2016 I had to lose weight for surgery. I lost 3 stone approx but hers I am 2 years later a stone heavier than before the diet.
I have lost 7 pounds in two weeks by calorie counting with my fitness pal. Although I can see that loss is now slowing down. If I can be near goal weight December 2019 I will be happy.

honeysucklejasmine · 11/03/2018 09:29

Well done on logging everything moonlight. It's important to be honest with yourself. I have a problem with binge eating, so logging it all (or the thought of having to!) is usually the wake up call I need to stop.

Moon great loss, well done! I also lose most weight at the start of the week and then spend the rest of it just trying to keep it off! But that's why you should only weigh once a week which I totally do, honest

Hi OJ! Welcome, welcome. I know a few people are doing a VLCD to get started. What are you going to do afterwards? Smile Fish and chips sounds good!

I'm having porridge for breakfast. Have stirred in mashed banana and 15g of peanut butter. I made it with water so needed to add something to make it creamier. It's nice - I've only had half of it so far because DS decided he absolutely needs to eat this second so will be reheating the rest soon hopefully! I'm actually relatively saited already though so keen to see how long it stays filling for. How filling something is Vs how many calories it is is really quite interesting!

ChestyNut · 11/03/2018 09:44

Loss this week - 3lbs Smile
Total lost- 46lbs 8oz
To lose-53lbs 8oz

3.5 lbs to the halfway mark! Feels like it’s taking forever but much more sustainable losing slowly.

honey congrats on the 2stone mark Star

post and tractors I think you’re right about avoiding the weight loss threads. I don’t watch the weight loss TV programmes either because of the conflicting advice.
Must admit I have a weakness for the “my 600lb life” type shows.

BangingOn · 11/03/2018 09:45

First week on VLCD and 9lb off. A fair bit will be water but I’m ok with that. My plan is 6 weeks VLCD and then shakes for 2 meals and a low carb evening meal.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 11/03/2018 09:50

Just popping in for a quick well done to you losers and welcome to ojzj. I'm putting that mushroom bolognese on my list for this week too!

MN is always utterly batshit on Mother's Day (not this thread, obviously!) , so I'm going to give it a swerve for the rest of the day and will be back tomorrow! Grin
