Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Wow that's amazing raven well done.

OuaisMaisBon · 06/03/2018 06:42

Gosh, RavenLG, that's so impressive, even for a first week weight loss!
Good luck for the coming week-end - I've been finding "mint lemonade/limeade" really useful for when I want low calorie bubbles - fresh lemon or lime juice with soda water and some sprigs of mint thrown in, lovely and refreshing and a bit more exciting than just water!

PostNotInHaste · 06/03/2018 07:20

Wow Raven, off to a great start!

Moon that is ‘t right, try the manual entry. The other thing it might be is I think you enter your activity levels, of that is set as a high level then there would only be a small upwards adjustment for a large number of steps and from what I’ve read there would be a negative adjustment on less active days if that’s the case.

Welcome Banging, so sorry about your DS’s diagnosis Flowers

Lego it is all about where your mind is at with it, sometimes it takes a bit of time to get there. Keep at it, if you don’t lose but stay the same then that’s a result as well. Would it help to use this thread as a food diary or start another with one, just a thought?

Nobeachbody welcome. Your goal weight is the same as mine, I am going to be 10.13.5 . My tip is to build in some of what you want, just count the calories. A couple of crumpets, scraping of marg and jam are around a couple of hundred I think. Build it into a meal (lunch with some fruit salad maybe) or a supper or have one then some fruit and yoghurt for a breakfast. If you want it have it but work it in. If you don’t deprivation kicks in and you’re more likely to hit the fuck it button. If this is going to be sustainable long term we will need to work out in the long term how to fit in things we want in moderation and things like a prosecco weekend, they are doable.

Well done B1rd Personally I think it is often harder in the winter, I suspect evolutionary factors come into play and winter with the dark nights would have been a time when we generally moved less to conserve energy etc and with less availability of fresh food would eat more energy dense food. That’s my theory and I’m sticking to it !

Tractors your food always sounds lovely!

Honeysuckle you’ve reminded me I should get cooking from my Hairy Dieters books which are looking a bit too pristine.

Chesty I hope the cough and asthma improving . My very deep sympathies on the hormonal fluctuations and the gain, it definitely will have been hormones . I’ve only had a few days in Feb when I wasn’t bleeding , my weight fluctuated all over the place, as you get closer to where you’ll end up and lose less a week I think they can cause more havoc on the scale front. I find having a monthly target the way forward .

AnotherOtter well done in the loss. You are in a pretty similar place to me now. When I last looked I had a stone to go.

Motherofdinosaurs well done, heading nicely in right direction.

I’ve taken my eye if the ball and currently addressing a calorie deficit of about 1700 from last week and weekend, about half a pound to put it in context. Knocked off 1000 off it yesterday and will sort the rest in the next couple of days so not worried. Scan next week which is another step forward in sorting fibroid. I may just stay maintaining until procedure depending on how things go. By sound of it I might feel a bit shit for a couple of weeks after so will probably lose at that point anyway.

moonlight1705 · 06/03/2018 09:13

Wow, there are so many people on this thread then I've lost how everyone is doing.

Another I seem to be in a bit of a shame spiral with MFP - I don't log the less good things I've eaten and then feel ashamed that I haven't logged it.....grrrr I just need to get on with it and stop making excuses. On the other hand my greenhouse has survived the Beast from the East and there is even a shoot or two coming up Smile

honey I LOVE the Hairy Bikers - need to get their cookbook. In fact I need a mission of getting new and exciting cookbooks to make life interesting again.

moon I've got Pacer linked and it gives me a fair few more calories than that to play with and I don't even do that many steps....well done on your loss though!

Banging I know what you mean about being fatter as being the 'natural' state - in fact my target at the moment is 11st as I feel I would not look like me if I was any skinnier. You did so well to cope with your DS - glad he is all well now.

Raven well done! Amazing start to the whole thing - that is 8% of 100lb in one week! I don't think I've ever lost that much in a week unless it was the time I had dodgy food.

Tractors Yum, love slow cooker stuff but it does take an extra pinch of spice or two. I made a delicious beetroot and spinach stirfry yesterday and prepped all the ingredients, washed my hands and then rubbed my eye.....turns out that chilli needs a fair bit of washing off and I was blind for about ten minutes trying to wash it out. Cooking is dangerous!!!

Post Well done for sorting out your deficit especially as you've got so much else to worry about. How is it all going?

B1 I've maintained since Christmas until last week when I finally had a loss, I think sometimes just not putting on weight is good especially as post says, in the winter with the cold weather.

Sorry if I've missed anyone but well done all of you and keep me on my toes with MFP please Blush

PostNotInHaste · 06/03/2018 10:35

I'm ok thanks Moonlight. We do have a lot going on still but I guess it's life so just cracking on best as I can. A pound or two off this month would be great if possible.

Building a dome greenhouse at the moment and without meaning to made a hot bed - lettuce and radish germinated thd day it was minus 6!

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 06/03/2018 11:03

Hello everyone! I spent a while yesterday reading through a lot of this thread (up to page 19 and then skipped to page 30 Blush ).

I hope you don't mind me joining you - the morale and inspiration in this group is so amazing and I am in awe of you!

I'm quite tall at 6ft1, but standing on the scales the other day was a shock to the system - I hadn't realised just how much I actually weighed. I want to lose about 8 stone I think, though that might be a tad too far, I'm not sure yet.

In terms of my goals, I really want to feel amazing on my 21st birthday...

Shorter term, I'd like to start feeling better about myself and more confident, and not feel horrible when people take photos of me!

I originally intended on tracking calories using MFP, but just really took from it the amount of calories I could have and have made myself a spreadsheet where I can keep track of my calories, and I have all my meal values and snack values there. It's just a little bit easier for me, and all the colour on my spreadsheet makes it seem quite fun putting in what I've been eating!

I've already lost 3lbs since last Tuesday (going by what I weighed myself as on Sunday), so I'm really chuffed! I didn't understand why I was gaining weight before, and breaking it down and looking at it systematically has really helped me (e.g. that odd Starbucks hot chocolate, that packet of Skips, all adds up).

I hope you don't mind me joining in!!

PostNotInHaste · 06/03/2018 11:16

Welcome LittleBear, that sounds like a good plan. Whatever works for you is the general rule.

Your user name reminds me something one of our lecturers did on us. Told us not to think about White Polar Bears and carried on talking about something else. The harder we tried not to think of white polar bears the more we did, a bit like biscuit gate further back and then that food gains greater meaning than it should. I think a similar thing happens when you are on a diet, which is why I’m trying look at it as learning how to energy balance- that covers loss and maintenance .

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 06/03/2018 11:35

Thank you Post!

Starting on this journey, so to speak, has really made me value healthier foods, and I want this to be a way of life rather than a temporary measure to shift some weight.

I'm still going to allow myself treats, but it's all going to be recorded.

I really like your analogy about the polar bears. I think allowing myself to have treats and not going cold turkey will really help, because then I won't end up craving them knowing that I can't have them.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 06/03/2018 18:36

Welcome BangingOn and LittleBear - jump right in and get going Grin LittleBear, you’re a similar height to me…but considerably younger! Your 21st is a great target to have.

Well done Raven and Moonandstars I hope your MFP is behaving better today.

Post - you’ve done so well, and gone through a hell of a lot in the last year, maintenance counts like a great idea. I will steal the polar bear analogy too!

moonlight have you tracked everything today? Wink

Slow cooker stew thing is very tasty Grin - there’s a great article I use for convincing the DCs that what we’re eating is more exciting than it actually is (a trick used by food bloggers)

www.summertomato.com/sell-your-family-on-healthy-eating-using-descriptive-copy

(Darya, the author of the article, is someone I like a lot - her stuff is worth a read)

So…in the slow cooker at the moment is a ‘Slow cooked spring chicken and sweet butternut squash with a comforting kale and lentil spiced stew’ - served with a crisp green salad and a lemony, tangy vinaigrette Wink

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Raven and LittleBear those are brilliant losses, well done!

honeysuckle the Exante man plan is slightly higher calorie than the regular plan- you have 3 meal replacements, 100ml semi skimmed milk (which I use for tea) and a small meal of 200 calories/10g carbs. It’s extreme but I need something extreme to get the first few stone off I think.

NoTractors your dinner sounds amazing, I need to get more creative with my slow cooker.

honeysucklejasmine · 06/03/2018 21:52

Just done my meals for the week in mfp. I like to plug dinners in in advance so I know how many crisps I can eat how many calories I have available that day. This week we're having:
Butterbean and white wine cassoulet
Creamy salmon pasta
Kedgeree
Cauliflower passanda
Mushroom and spinach Bolognese
Kidney bean burgers
Aubergine curry

And I am making a batch of minestrone soup to have for lunches. All recipes courtesy of Jack Monroe's website so were nice and cheap as well as pretty low calorie. They are all 500 cal or less per portion so pretty pleased with that! No, I am not pescatarian, just the dishes I chose this week, though it certainly helps with the calorie count.

Moonandstars84 · 06/03/2018 22:11

I have manually added exercise. Thank you for tips.

TheStirrer · 06/03/2018 22:12

Well had a good few days after had a bad day on thurs - Snow day - trapped in house ... With biscuits 🤣🤣🤣. These called my name all morning before I succumbed on the afternoon with a large cup of tea.... before I knew it I had eaten 5..... It was mindless chomping which is one of my (many) bad habits. Did log it in mfp though as might as well be honest with myself.

I haven't told anyone I am cutting back as don't want family and friends to know as have failed so many times - this time I need to do it!

Well done to all the newbies for plucking up courage to join the thread ... and well done to the "oldies" for providing the inspiration and willpower ... hope it rubs off on me!

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 07/03/2018 09:39

I have some great news!! So I first weighed myself last Tuesday, and the 3lb loss was measured on Sunday, well I weighed myself again yesterday and it turns out from Tuesday to Tuesday I'd actually lost 5lb!

I know it will probably slow down now but I'm so proud of myself for starting to make healthy choices and lifestyle changes that are long term.

honeysuckle Your week's menu sounds gorgeous! I wish I could be more creative with fish, all I can do really is a prawn risotto or curry, or potentially baked white fish or salmon. Thinking about it, I'm not sure why I don't make those more!

honeysucklejasmine · 07/03/2018 12:41

bear I quite like cooking - I can dump the kids on DH and have half an hours peace so I like to try new dishes a lot. We do have old favourites but a lot of them involve cheese or cream which I can't eat as smallest has a dairy allergy and is breastfed.

iamlosingweight · 07/03/2018 14:05

Hello 612lbs losers, excuse me, I'm the Blush girl from the Too Fat for Frankie's? post. I just need a little help here on what diet to use. I'm thinking 'The Diet Groove' but is it going to be as good as a personalized one like '90 Day SSS' ? Do you need a personalised plan? Or what do you recommend?
Thanks, ...and I AM going to be losing weight Confused

B1rdonawire · 07/03/2018 14:38

(Lost my long post so you'll have to cope with the abridged version!)

Iamlosing I think everyone is doing their own thing, depending on what fits best with work hours, travel, health, kids and all sorts. Lots of folk are tracking using my fitness pal/Fitbit, some are fasting, some are low carb, I'm using online slimming world because it was the only option I found where I don't have to weigh my pasta portion (and as I am going to have to make this a permanent change, I needed to be honest with myself about what I'd be able to sustain).

Well done LittleBear, what a start. If only every week could be like that, but it's a brilliant encouragement to keep going.

I had courgetti for lunch. It shrank when cooked! Was OK, but not amazing. As I've been a bit stuck, I'm trying out one carb-free meal per day. If my temper gets too bad I may have to re-think Grin

iamlosingweight · 07/03/2018 14:57

B1rdonawire Yes - I think being realistic is going to be important.

moonlight1705 · 07/03/2018 17:37

B1r my mum has gone low carb due to advice of the doctor. She has got loads of nice recipes, I can share a few with you if you would like.

B1rdonawire · 07/03/2018 18:10

Thank you, that would be amazing - can you PM me? I am having a total imagination failure about it, so all ideas gratefully received! I am only looking at doing one meal a day like it, because there is plenty of evidence in the family that I get Very Grumpy otherwise. So it would be a bit daft to try to lose this weight "so I can be fitter to do more stuff with the kids" but get so mardy in the process that the kids don't want to play with me anyway Grin.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/03/2018 19:39

B1rd - I low carbed for a while, it didn't agree with me for a prolonged period but while I was doing it, the Diet Doctor website was my bible: Diet Doctor recipes

I've also seen this today, which appeals to the child in me Blush: Eat the Butter recipe selector

I do suit being on a lower carb diet (as opposed to 'low carb') so I've been considering giving it a (cautious) try again.

*little I made the same mistake. My 3lb loss was from Wednesday to Sunday. However I will keep weigh in day Sunday and hopefully have a good loss next week.
Although I did have a full size kit Kat today.

Moonandstars84 · 07/03/2018 20:52

Brilliant loss bear btw.
