Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017-18 - Part 3

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 27/09/2017 19:49

Hello, welcome to the third instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread. As we’re getting closer to the end of 2017, I’ve added 2018 for good measure Smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the first and second threads are here: Part 1 and here: Part 2

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and I think we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way Wink Collectively, we’ve lost 612 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread, I will make one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that, I'm off to spam our old thread to fill it up Grin

Very impressed with your organisation and lovely sounding meals Honeysuckle.

Moonandstars with the manually added exercise are the amounts lookin* more sensible .

Stirrer I have to be careful with biscuits but do as you do, if the go in they get written down.

LittleBear off to a cracking start, well done !

Hi Iamlosingweight . The best plan is the one that appeals to you the most and that you think will help you change your habits longer, so you can maintain at the end and not have to do this again, just focus on staying the same. Unless you have a medical condition they all work in the same way, reduce the energy you take in versus what you expend. I realised that WW etc had failed for me in the past as I had regained the weight so felt a new start was the way forward so have opted for Nutracheck (£30 a year) plus a Fitbit. This suits me but won’t suit everyone,

Enjoyed playing with my food from that website Tractors!

Moonandstars84 it is perfectly ok to have a full size Kitkat, no need to sound apologetic! Balanced in with nutritious meals is absolutely fine.

Well done for KOKO and the NSV NotaNurse. I’m still getting used to idea I can go to most places within reason now after years of being very constrained. Have you seen everything5pounds.com? I’ve had some good things from there , a couple went straight to the recycling but a fair few bits that have had some lovely comments on from friends. Thanks for the commiserations, I think the large weight loss has exacerbated perimenopause and my fibroid symptoms. Will all come good in the wash so just need to ride it. Is your gallbladder behaving and any news on op ?

Weighed this morning and very happy to see a small loss.

0.25lb loss
Loss to date 96lb
To lose 14lb

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 08/03/2018 08:33

Thanks moonandstars!

NoTractors I read that article and it really resonated with me! I'm a copywriter and proofreader myself, my partner seems to be sick of me trying to talk up new recipes!!

Post Your positivity is so inspiring!

Moonandstars84 · 08/03/2018 09:32

Well done on managing the wait for the gall bladder op - when I had mine out, I felt SO much better afterwards! I don't think I had realised how low-level draggy I was feeling even when not in particular pain. I hope it's not too long for you to wait now.

Well, my lower carb meal today is butternut squash and leek soup with chicken and ham.

Feeling emotionally wobbly today and struggling to identify a particular reason. Trying hard to avoid comfort eating find positive steps in response. Have arranged to have coffee with a friend tomorrow, have ordered some new recipe books thanks to suggestions on this thread, and am making initial plans to do something to fundraise this year in memory of DH.

How is everyone's day going?

Nobeachbody · 08/03/2018 13:08

Yeah, I'm feeling a bit unmotivated today too, not helped by the fact that I am nursing a crashing hangover. Went round to a friend's for dinner last night and it degenerated into a bit of a boozy affair. The problem is that I am ravenously hungry, the dreaded hangover hunger, and struggling not to stuff myself with carbs. So today I've had porridge with raspberries for breakfast, (normally I don't eat till early afternoon - doing the 16-8), then had a plum and orange mid morning, and have just eaten a small plate of home made mac cheese that I made last night for my kids. Was delicious, and just what I need to make me feel better. But I need to get back on the straight and narrow - In 9 weeks I have lost 18 pounds but I just need to keep going, but it's hard when I feel like this. I know I've just got to get through today and after a good night's sleep tonight - and no booze! - I'll feel much better tomorrow. Then it's six weeks till I head off on a girls holiday to Spain, so would really love to lose another stone by then, but I need to focus and get with the programme!!!

honeysucklejasmine · 08/03/2018 17:26

Post you've done so well, you are v inspiring!

Thanks for menu compliments - credit to Jack Monroe and AnotherOtter for reminding me she exists!

AnotherOtter · 08/03/2018 17:29

How are you feeling, Chesty? Hope your chest has settled. How is ChestyDog?

Thanks for the background about the Hairy Bikers, Honey. That makes a lot more sense!

Welcome Nobeach. I get bored of my usual 'diet' food too but I find changing things about and using new recipes or adapting old recipes really helps. Are you having any of your old favourite foods at all? Smaller portions or much less frequently can work. For example, I like chocolate ganache and the Coconut Collaborative chocolate pots sold in Sainsbury's are only 105 calories and I can fit that into my diet sometimes. Because they are portioned out in little tubs, I don't feel tempted to eat more than planned. WhenI was still eating gluten I would occasionally buy single doughnuts from a bakery rather than a box from the supermarket. Experiment and find out what works for you: there are no universal right answers unfortunately.

Hope you feel better soon, Lego. Keep persevering Thanks

Welcome BangingOn. Boarding schools are rife with disordered eating and frank eating disorders. You sound like you've had a hell of a lot to deal with your DS Thanks Good luck with Exante. How are you finding it?

Post, that is just grim bleeding for the entirety of February. Very hard on the body and what a pain in the fucking arse. Best of luck with your appointment next week, fingers crossed Thanks

Moonlight, I've been in that shame spiral with food too and it's awful. Finding a way to draw a line under a bad episode is key for me. So saying "this is a new meal" or "this is a new day" and really putting my foot down with myself helps. It's hard. I recommend Dr Christopher Fairburn's Overcoming Binge Eating https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1572305614/ if you are binging. Need to take my own advice and read it again!

Welcome LittleBear. I wish I was tall like you! Sounds like you have a great plan worked out.

B1, the Low Carb Bootcamp board has several recipe threads stickied at the top of the page that you might find helpful. I am considering low carb too so please keep posting on how you find it. I am sorry about your DH Thanks

Great NSVs Notanurse Smile Really hope you hear about your gallbladder op soon.

BangingOn · 08/03/2018 20:24

Thanks for the welcome Another. You’re absolutely right about boarding school, although I did love it overall the lack of control over food choices and the food being pretty shoddy definitely made me over eat once I left. I think boarding food in general is much better nowadays but back in the late 90s we had one piece of fruit a week!

I am really enjoying Exante so far, although I’m glad I’m on the plan that allows a 200 cal, 10g carb meal as well as the shakes. I like low carb and it suits me but I need to get better at portion control which hopefully this will do.

Today was tricky as I was working in the office instead of at home. I was in a meeting with trays of cookies, chocolates everywhere and new product samples (I work for a confectionery company which hasn’t helped my weight!) and I resisted everything. I was worried about lunch as I don’t want people to know I’m dieting, but I had my 200 cal meal at lunch instead of dinner and managed to shuffle chicken and leaves around my plate enough to look like I’d had a ‘normal’ meal whilst staying within limits.

7lb off since Monday, although I realise that’s mostly water.

BangingOn · 08/03/2018 20:33

NoBeach well done on dealing with your hangover so well, those situations can be such a slippery slope into a full day binge (or is that just me?)

Nobeachbody · 09/03/2018 00:10

Yes in the past a hangover would have seen me face down in a mountain of buttered crumpets/ hot cross buns/ and it wouldn't stop all day. Today I gave myself a bit more leeway than usual and had breakfast which I don't normally bother with, and ONE hot cross bun mid afternoon. Over my calorie allowance but would
Still lose weight according to MFP! So onwards and upwards! And Thanks for your encouraging words Banging!!

PostNotInHaste · 09/03/2018 07:15

Moonandstars that sounds a better level.

Notanurse 30 weeks and no date is dreadful. Thank goodness the attacks are under control.

B1rd sorry you’re feeling wobbly Flowers I think fundraising in your DH’s memory is a lovely idea.

AnotherOtter thanks for the chocolate pot mention, will look out for them as also fond of chocolate ganache.

NoBeach impressed at your control in the face of a hangover!

I’m redoing my weigh in as have had a whoosh over night, no idea how i’ve lost as eating at maintenance but won’t look a gift horse in the mouth and all that. This is over 2 weeks.

Loss 1.5lb
Total loss 97.25lb
To lose 12.5lb

Took on an allotment yesterday which is probably stupid timing but it will be so lovely I couldn’t refuse! Figured veg, fruit and exercise are conducive to what I want to achieve long term. Sitting here having a prod of my collar bones, they are quite sticky outy, who knew!

BangingOn · 09/03/2018 07:54

Post you’ve done amazingly well, I’m in awe! I agree on the sticky out collar bones, I can’t wait to see mine again.

honeysucklejasmine · 09/03/2018 11:44

Right. Baby is still not quite right, so we're now trialling egg, soy and beef free as well as dairy. Those are the things most likely to be companion allergies, if you like.

So food I can still eat is getting complicated... Still, soy in particular eliminates most processed food so I guess that's good for the diet!

LittleBearinaBigWorld · 09/03/2018 16:22

Hello all!! I was hoping you could all calm me down a bit. I went out with some friends last night who I haven't seen in ages, and had a few to drink.

I was drinking rum and diet coke, but with the first one the guy at the bar must have misheard me because I ended up with rum and giner beer, that was a weird combination I can tell you!!

I'm not hungover at all so not binge eating today, just know that I drank a few more calories than I was expecting to and I'm feeling a little worried that I might have done really bad - I'm beating myself up over nothing I realise, I just got worried because I ended up with a UTI because of the alcohol - or at least I think that caused it - (sorry if too much information) even though I'd have about 2.5ltrs of water earlier throughout the day.

honeysuckle I hope you manage to find what it is!

Thank you for all the encouragement on here, it really is such a wonderful and supportive group.

honeysucklejasmine · 09/03/2018 19:00

bear I find that on days when I go over, mfp still predicts me to lose weight. I have it set to 1.5lbs a week, so even if I go over I am usually only as many over as say, 1lb a week (300 more calories allowed) or 0.5lb a week (500 calories more) so it's not a disaster. Be honest with yourself then draw a line under it and start over.

honeysuckle and notanurse thank you - just started irrationally panicking. I did have a good time, so I'm just going to be grateful for not having a hangover and know that I'm making healthy choices and lifestyle choices.

I did get a UTI but I'm pretty bad for them so keep a lot of stuff in which eases it - I think my trigger must be alcohol which is a bit weird....

Had a really good day today though. Didn't mean to offend or upset anyone with that last post.

Moonandstars84 · 09/03/2018 21:13

I must admit I have eaten a fair amount of junk today. But as the rest was healthy I think I got away with it. Still under mfp recommendation. At least the chilli crackers are now gone after scoffing the remaining half pack.
I love this thread so much. Everybody is so supportive and realistis.
I hate dieting threads I AIBU as you seem to attract the 2000 calories is a massive amount of food brigade and I would gain on 1400 calories.
Thankfully even though I am 5ft 1 ish I seem to be doing ok for now on that sort of amount.
Looking forward to a new me Christmas 2019.

Moonandstars84 · 09/03/2018 21:13

Autocorrect garbled my post but I hope it makes sense.

honeysucklejasmine · 09/03/2018 22:20

I know what you mean Moon, the "I could possibly eat a whole burger" brigade. Fairly obviously I don't have that problem. Blush

Bear glad you're feeling better. I was on the TTC threads on MN and have absolutely no tmi threshold at all. Literally nothing is tmi when you've been through TTC, childbirth, and wiping shitty arses all day. 😂

Just done the food shop for next week. Really surprised how straightforward it was to plan a meal with no dairy, egg, soya or beef. But no bread. I've heard rumours of a bread from Aldi that's soya free, but for this week I will content myself with a wholemeal bread mix and my kitchen aid. I hope it makes a difference to baby. He's covered in scabs as he itches so hard he draws blood. 😢

honeysucklejasmine · 09/03/2018 22:21

*couldn't possibly ffs

Moonandstars84 · 09/03/2018 22:44

Yes once you have had infertility investigations and than pregnancy and childbirth a uti is definitely not tmi.
