Have a wonderful, indulgent, guilt-free holiday Not - thoroughly well-deserved Wine

Hi all, I'm doing MFP again (third time in about five years, always pre-summer hols!) to try to shift a stubborn half stone.

Feeling a bit demotivated right now: I've been very good Mon-Thurs for the last few weeks but then had stuff on at the weekend where I've basically undone all the week's work. Things like weekends away, all day BBQ parties, afterwork dinner and drinks, having visitors...I really don't want to be depriving myself too much at occasions like these but I think I'm going to have to.

How does everyone cope with trying to log food at parties/restaurants/dinners, where you just don't know how much the various elements weigh or what went into them? I had a steak and chips at a restaurant the other day and no idea what weight the steak was or the chips...any tips? And it's even harder at something like a BBQ where there are loads of little snacks and side dishes to help yourself to over a long period of time. I hate trying to log stuff in situations like this! Any tips?

Oh and was reading about the weight loss changing with age discussion on the previous page:

First did MFP when I was 29: the weight was literally falling off. Every day seemed to bring an incremental loss it all seemed so logical and easy.

Then last year and this (mid thirties) even with seemingly the same process, it's SO much slower, definitely. Scales go up and down all the time, it takes ages to consolidate and stabilise each little loss. I've been racking my brain whether I did anything differently the first time around, but I just don't think I did...

I'm not sure of the science, but I think there IS some evidence to suggest that weight loss gets more difficult as one ages. For real oldies like myself, I think it's to do with decreases muscle mass; as you lose tone, your metabolism slows or something.

I think with meals out, you just need to get online and Google, and plan for meals you know about in advance. Stick to calorie-free drinks where possible. I find alcohol deadly-all my resolve goes outta the window!

i think in some ways buffets/ barbecues are more difficult. Grazing over a period of time is tricky. Perhaps take a picture of each food item as you're going along and logging it straight away would help?

Scales have dipped down to 14lb under my start weight this morning -
I'm zig-zagging my way down so know it will jump back up again for a day or two but wow! that feels significant as I've not managed more than half a stone before drifting back up in recent years. I still have another stone to lose but just about half way there! Know the next stone will be much harder and will coincide with the summer holidays so not sure how that is going to work...

Well im suprised, really thought i would of stayed the same weight or gained, but ive lost 1lb! Yay! Sat at 11st 4 now, 4lb away from my first goal and 2lb away from getting into the back end of a healthy bmi. Horrible seeing that im classed as overweight, that makes me want it off even more!Grin

drspouse · 08/07/2017 09:58

Not a bad week but not great either so girding my loins for a better week - very slight gain but I think it's probably bloat.

buggerthebotox · 08/07/2017 10:03

I miscalculated the calories in a melon and went over.......thought there'd be about 100 cals-there's 359!

sweetbitter · 08/07/2017 11:52

I've had a minor dental operation this morning, but one positive effect of the lingering anaesthesia and emerging tenderness is that I don't want to eat! This will probably be the first Saturday in ages that I don't go over my calorie goal...

caggie09 · 08/07/2017 18:33

Today has been good, not hit calorie target today. Might end up being under. I'm off work now for the next 3 days, think l will struggle if I'm being honest. Will be hitting the gym Monday and Tuesday so hoping that keeps me on track!
