I've had a golden day Halo

ponygirlcurtis · 13/02/2017 22:30

I am struggling a bit this eve too! We all seem to be in synch! Had dinner at my mum's, ie about 4hrs earlier than I would normally eat. I am now ravenous and chewing my arms off. (And also hormonal, which isn't helping.) Gaaaaah! Trying to curb the crisp cravings with cucumber, tomatoes and hoummous.

Good going Kiki, you need to carry the flag for us.

Amazing stuff Smelly! Well done.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/02/2017 23:10

I've come in at 1045 calories, 12,000 steps, no booze, and a swim. So on paper it's golden. It just feels a bit bleurgh in my head Confused

Are you literally just counting calories or do type matter: low carb etc?

Archduke · 14/02/2017 06:12

Right ladies we need to regain some motivation.

It is TOUGH dieting, particularly when the weather is shit and the scales don't move (or move in the wrong direction). However the alternative is to go back to our previously unhealthy lifestyles which made us fat and miserable.

Stick with the program you fierce foxes. What would Beyoncé do? SHE WOULD KICK THOSE CALORIES IN THE ASS.

I find when the motivation slips away exercise helps give me an endorphin buzz and I kind of get back into the zone. But the weather here is sunny so it's not nearly as hard.

BOOP you had a great day, just need your head to switch back into gear. Well done KIKI. Sausage that is really disappointing and dispiriting, no getting around it, but don't give up. Today is a new day. Arsey have a good run. Smelly you are an example to us all! Brilliant work.

Usermuser · 14/02/2017 06:39

I struggled massively yesterday too. I planned a fast after a lot of deepfried stuff over the wkend but was so hungry I ended up eating more than normal. Wonder why we've all hit this point at the same time. Maybe a middle of the month thing.
Thank you for the inspirational speech, arch! We all need to get back on it today. Think of not having to hide away the flab in the summer.

Usermuser · 14/02/2017 06:43

And sausage, it'll be water weight or something. For you to have put on 2.5 lbs in two days, you'd have had to have eaten you daily allowance plus like 90000 calories, given a lb is about 35000 cals. That weight will drop off.

Usermuser · 14/02/2017 06:45

9000 not 90000
3500 not 35000

Stellar67 · 14/02/2017 06:46

Love it arch! It is tough. And I'm glad you all get that too.

I enjoyed my swim yesterday. I think the lack of fitness of late has deflated me. I'm going to try and fit it in where I can.

Today I'm eating mostly eggs. Because they need to be eaten. I like frittatas and those egg muffins. Might make the dcs French toast. We are also going out for the day so we will walk a lot.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/02/2017 07:04

Morning! And happy Valentine's Day ❤️

I heard stirring music and thought I saw the red arrows fly overhead while I read your post Archie Grin

You are right though. Even if dieting is dispiriting sometimes, the alternative is worse I will not have another fat summer!

Freeniki yes I'm just counting calories but I have a vague plan to reduce carbs as well. For instance, the only carbs I had yesterday was one slice of whole meal toast.

Squiffy01 · 14/02/2017 07:19

arch thanks for the pep talk! Funny how so many of us are struggling at the same time.
I'm annoyed with MFP if I ate like I did yesterday, which was good but no exercise in 5 weeks I will only lose 3kg. Which seems like absolutely nothing and has got me thinking why even bother.
I know anything off is good but it just seems soooo slow. Even more so when you ruin a week and get a bit gain Sad

Anyone have any Valentines plane I'm getting cooked butternut squash risotto (already logged it) and have said there is to be no pudding, hopefully he listens.

lastqueenofscotland · 14/02/2017 07:23

Another lb down! 138lbs this morning so three in total for Feb. Not ideal but not horrible either.

Another golden day lined up too.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 14/02/2017 07:36

Loving Arch's pep talk!

Golden food day yesterday but scales are stubbornly up, grr! I think this is due to lack of exercise - have barely crossed the threshold since Thursday due to small child with impetigo and then my own illness. Still feeling weird but might manage a lunchtime stroll - and must go to shops to buy a Valentine's card, seeing as both DH and I managed to be under the impression that V-Day was Wednesday. Blush

BeyondUnderthinking · 14/02/2017 07:59

Morning all, happy valentines ❤❤
Me and DH don't really do it - he said he might pick me up a little bar of chocolate but that's it, no fancy meal or cards/flowers

My weight has bounced back down the 0.5lb again :)
Had a golden food day yesterday and reached my step goal. Only issue with yesterday was that I didn't have chance to do my Pilates, though I did do a quick two mins of core stuff

HairsprayBabe · 14/02/2017 08:16

Good Morning Senderistas, 11.13 this morning so the weekend's damage is slowly coming away and I feel like I am getting back in the zone.

Happy valentines day, we don't really do much for it but DP got me some flowers and a card this year. I got him a squirrel from Sainsbos and a card from paperchase yes one of the V V rude ones

We are having mexican stuffed peppers for tea, might light a candle and then shag in the living room if I can be bothered Grin

Usermuser · 14/02/2017 08:51

Argh. Up 0.7 kg since Saturday. Body fat percentage, however, has fallen 0.8% which I'm taking seriously because these scales don't seem to fluctuate on body fat. I've been working on building muscle but now don't know whether to be pleased that percentage has fallen or annoyed scales are up. I'm good at handing out reassurance about water retention to other people but less good at believing it when it's my scales that have gone up!

lastqueenofscotland · 14/02/2017 09:20

I think my usual Valentine's Day habit of going shopping for cheap champagne and chocolate on the 15th might not be that diet friendly...

Naughtysausage · 14/02/2017 09:25

Thank you Arch that was exactly what was needed. And User you were right! It was water weight because this morning I was down 3lbs on yesterday. So your 0.7kg is going to be exactly the same thing.

Sorry for the self indulgent rant yesterday. Will learn my lesson and not panic.
Popped into the gym this morning on the way back from nursery, I never normally go at this time (normally squished in to someone's armpit on the way to work) and it was full of very fit men. That should have surely been a bonus but I've never stared so hard at only my machine! Blush

Millie04 · 14/02/2017 09:36

Usermuser how much were your fat % scales? I'm thinking of getting some as this is the area I want to tackle. I misread the reading I got at work a few weeks ago and my fat % is 33%. About a year ago it was 27% which is where I want to be again. I guess it will naturally come down when I master the weight loss again though!

Usermuser · 14/02/2017 10:18

That's ace, sausage. So you lost another half lb too from sticking with it even though the scales were being stupid. I'm going to follow your example and keep being sensible rather than thinking 'sod it' and eating everything in sight.

Millie, they are Tanita BC730W scales off Amazon. Just under £40. My only complaint is that they flash through the stats so fast you hardly have time to register anything apart from weight and body fat -typical that it lingers on the two most depressing statistics. I'm sure there's a way to retrieve the other info but seems like a faff.

QuimReaper · 14/02/2017 10:50

Sausage panicking and ranting are what we're here for! A huge pitfall for lots of people is when Good Behaviour isn't rewarded, or isn't rewarded quickly enough, and they throw their hands up in despair that Nothing Works, but as you've learned, if you can brush off the scale blips they do tend to be just that - blips - and as long as the general trend is downwards (or even sucky stucksville like me) you will see results. I always say I don't weigh on / after weekends because that's my release valve when I'm allowed carbs and wine which mess with fluid etc., but I also learned quite a while ago that it can really mess with my motivation. I dieted like a mad thing at one point in Spring and lost something like 6lbs in under two weeks (heaps and heaps for me) by barely eating, then went on a wedding food tasting. I made the mistake of weighing myself the next day and I almost cried - I felt like if 12 solid days of a calorie deficit could be undone by one afternoon of actual food, I'd never ever lose weight. Of course, it was a blip, and I bounced back to not exactly where I'd been, but more or less. I now think of it like an elastic band: when you stretch it and then "release" it (with carbs and wine) it pings back, but not all the way back to where it started; next time it stretches a bit more; and each time you release it it has stretched a bit more, until you have it where you want it.

Which leads me to...

Squiffy! Now. 3kg in 5 weeks is about 6.5lbs; the aim of this thread is 7lb in around 4.5 weeks; that's pretty much bang on a fairly punishing target! It never does to chart the weight loss in small increments, because it's too demoralising. It makes every golden day look barely at all relevant to the overall loss. But if you think of it as half a stone a month (which it roughly is), does that make it feel more worthwhile? Half a stone lighter by the end of March; a stone by the end of April; two stone by the start of July, etc?

So sorry everyone's having Wagon Trouble. I am too, it's weird. Star to Archie for the Pep Talk and to Kiki and Smelly for keeping the end up! I think it might be that we're getting down in the dumps and sick of winter - a mild, bright day will give us all a huge energy injection when one deigns to show up.

ArseyTussle · 14/02/2017 10:53

Morning brigade, thank you Brigadier Arch, stirring stuff there. Grin

Had a good run, even though I was into a head wind for a lot of it so felt like I was running at a 45 degree angle.

Not a morsel shall pass my lips until my romantic lunch date with Mr Tussle at 1pm. By which time I shall be so ravenous I'll be tearing into the food and forgetting to be coquettish and alluring.

HairsprayBabe · 14/02/2017 10:54

Quim You are a legend, lovely peptalk dear,

flowers for you.

I have found the wagon, I am back in the zone, I am focused, zen and will lose, (at least) 5lbs before the end of the month!

QuimReaper · 14/02/2017 10:57

FreeNiki I'd say broadly speaking a calorie is a calorie etc., but most of us who try and subsist on very few calories have developed a few "hacks", and almost everybody finds that carbs are best avoided as they leave you feeling hungry again a short time later, whereas fat and protein are more satisfying.

Not always true, of course - I find a spoonful of oats in a morning smoothie makes a huge difference to how satisfying it is. Although they are notoriously slow-release energy, and maybe having them raw gives your stomach something to do...

QuimReaper · 14/02/2017 11:04

No no, Flowers for you Hairspray*! Flowers for all the lovely Slenderistas on this thread, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAAAAY!

It's going to be so romantic at Chez Reaper - my fever and sore throat have thankfully dissolved into a snotty nose, and Mr Reaper woke up with it this morning. What an attractive pair we shall make Hmm

So, dilemma. I bought a chocolate heart and a box of little chocs for Mr Reaper a few days ago for a Valentine's gift. (He is a chocolate obsessive so he's only allowed it on special occasions!) He then asked me specifically to keep his birthday, which is next Monday, sugar free, as he is trying to lose some weight. (I don't know why, he doesn't look at all different to me Confused ) Should I take that edict in the spirit it's intended and return the V Day chocolates, as he seems to be saying he's not allowed any even on special occasions right now?
