Sausage panicking and ranting are what we're here for! A huge pitfall for lots of people is when Good Behaviour isn't rewarded, or isn't rewarded quickly enough, and they throw their hands up in despair that Nothing Works, but as you've learned, if you can brush off the scale blips they do tend to be just that - blips - and as long as the general trend is downwards (or even sucky stucksville like me) you will see results. I always say I don't weigh on / after weekends because that's my release valve when I'm allowed carbs and wine which mess with fluid etc., but I also learned quite a while ago that it can really mess with my motivation. I dieted like a mad thing at one point in Spring and lost something like 6lbs in under two weeks (heaps and heaps for me) by barely eating, then went on a wedding food tasting. I made the mistake of weighing myself the next day and I almost cried - I felt like if 12 solid days of a calorie deficit could be undone by one afternoon of actual food, I'd never ever lose weight. Of course, it was a blip, and I bounced back to not exactly where I'd been, but more or less. I now think of it like an elastic band: when you stretch it and then "release" it (with carbs and wine) it pings back, but not all the way back to where it started; next time it stretches a bit more; and each time you release it it has stretched a bit more, until you have it where you want it.
Which leads me to...
Squiffy! Now. 3kg in 5 weeks is about 6.5lbs; the aim of this thread is 7lb in around 4.5 weeks; that's pretty much bang on a fairly punishing target! It never does to chart the weight loss in small increments, because it's too demoralising. It makes every golden day look barely at all relevant to the overall loss. But if you think of it as half a stone a month (which it roughly is), does that make it feel more worthwhile? Half a stone lighter by the end of March; a stone by the end of April; two stone by the start of July, etc?
So sorry everyone's having Wagon Trouble. I am too, it's weird.
to Archie for the Pep Talk and to Kiki and Smelly for keeping the end up! I think it might be that we're getting down in the dumps and sick of winter - a mild, bright day will give us all a huge energy injection when one deigns to show up.
