Arse I know it's not recommended by most but I weigh daily too (before work, after work, before bed - so I see the daily flictuations) but I count the first thing in the morning reading only. I need to see the numbers change as I go and it helps me to stay on track - I know if I eat a big meal the number will go up and that helps me remember portion control etc!

TVHubbyClaire · 23/01/2017 09:04

How nice to be on a new thread so early. I was a late joiner to the last one...thanks BOOP

After the lecture I received on Friday about bad cereal and not enough exercise I got better on Saturday.
Dropped DW off at work at 8 and DS and I walked for almost an hour and then had porridge for breakfast on Saturday at Pret. Really enjoyed it. Also hardly ate anything else throughout the day.
Went to Tesco yesterday and bought instant porridge for all 5 days of this week. Its not so good as Pret but will try to make it work this week.

Most importantly though, yesterday gave me my first experience of MN euphoria............
DW, DS and I had family dinner planned for yesterday and I had hoped to wear a velvet waistcoat I bought for christmas day. It felt tight in the shop and I was very close to buying a size large which was a bit too roomy but comfortable. DW talked me into the medium and I have to say it felt tight all day on christmas.
However.....I put it on yesterday for first time since then and it felt oh so much better. I was soooo pleased...my first NSV and although I couldnt share that part with others i couldnt wait to get on here and share.
Better fitting clothes and this group are two fantastic motivations...thank you all

I weigh in once a week, Monday morning (before breakfast, after a wee!)

BitOutOfPractice · 23/01/2017 09:30

Oh that is the best feeling ever isn't it TV? Chuffed for you!

That's great claire well done :)

HairsprayBabe · 23/01/2017 09:41

I am so pleased for you TV! Well done!

I'm going on a night out tomorrow, mid week! I know what am I a student!? It is for a friend's birthday and he works in hospitality so can never ever get any time on the weekends! I have bought a v. slinky dress and some industrial underwear - EEK! Might post a photo if I am feeling brave!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 23/01/2017 09:45

That's great TV, I love a NSV.

Thanks for posting the recipe Hairspray. I think I will try those for breakfasts next week. I have been looking for quick and easy breakfasts for work days, those fit the bill nicely. I am also going to try overnight oats this week, though I'm not sure how much more time-consuming it is to just microwave some porridge. We shall see!

00100001 · 23/01/2017 10:41

what does NSV mean?

BitOutOfPractice · 23/01/2017 10:50

It's a Non Scales Victory. Like when you get a compliment or get into an item of clothing that was previously too small or such like

Right, back from a run - 2 x 20 mins with a 3 min walk in between, dontcha know - and have renewed determination. I'm going to weigh daily this week and see how it goes. AF approaching, so that may scupper things, but I only have to lose 0.77kg to get the magic 7lbs.

I like this group. Smile

BitOutOfPractice · 23/01/2017 11:10

Nothing like a good blast of exercise endorphins to reset your determination arsey and it certainly beats thinking "oh fuck it" and eating all the food

MNHQ changed the typo in the heading literally 5 minutes after I asked Star

I find daily weighing keeps me on track, if I know I have to face the scales the next day I am less likely to make bad choices!

What are your menu's looking like for this week? I am undecided on a few things, but I have courgettes despite the global shortage so maybe some sort of courgette feast?

00100001 · 23/01/2017 11:27

I have a free lunch at work (Amzing lunch)

But will stick to either a salad or a bowl of soup all week.

Dinners will probably be (due to what we have ine and what needs using up)
Monday: Beans on toast and a sausage (I will have one slice of tast and about 1/3 tin of beans, 1 sausage)
Tuesday: Chunky soup - maybe with chicken/quorn and using up veggies I have looking a bit sorry for themselves (currently celery, carrots, sweet potato)
Wednesday: Omelettes, will bung in spring onions, peppers, bacon (1 slice for 2 adults - cheapskate!), some cheese, and whatever else is to hand.
Thursday: something to use up the bacon if there's any left - perhaps I will make a curry
Friday: Bolognese - possibly made with soya mince, or beef, not sure yet. (having a friend over) will be with wholemeal pasta. anfd salad
Saturday: I'll make a sausage casserole
Sunday: BBQed lamb, salad and cous cous.

ArseyTussle · 23/01/2017 11:28

Put your courgettes on eBay, you'll make a fortune!

lastqueenofscotland · 23/01/2017 12:08

Hairspray I'm a daily weighing convert

Trying to be extra golden today after a weekend of birthday food for every meal!!

Currently I am hungry Angry

HairsprayBabe · 23/01/2017 12:15

Nice one queen it is good when i find things that make me more accountable. I really really want to get under 12st i feel when I pass that marker I won't go back up again but getting there is proving a trial this month.

Ok this week's Menu:
M: Courgette rosti and poached eggs
T: Dinner out + booze
W:Beetroot Falafel
T:Chilli and cauliflower rice
F: Wilted kale and pan fried tofu

I am away for the weekend with DP so will try to make good choices!

BitOutOfPractice · 23/01/2017 12:16

I'm having a creamy tarragon chicken pot thingy with roasted veg tonight. Then...erm...no idea! And on Thursday I am on my jolly hols eating whatever I bloody like!

OP posts:
SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 23/01/2017 12:17

My plan is currently:

Monday (fast day #1): frittata and green salad
Tuesday: mushroom & potato one pot curry
Wednesday (fast day #2): quinoa tabbouleh and falafel
Thursday: veggie toad in the hole
Friday: veggie burgers and sweet potato wedges + salad
Not sure about the weekend yet.

Lunches on non-fast days will be leftovers, breakfast is usually porridge or eggs (though I tend to skip breakfast and lunch on fast days, or just have some miso soup or something).
I wanted to try the beetroot falafel recipe Hairspray posted but I found a load of normal falafel in the freezer so I am going to eat those up. The beetroot ones will have to wait until next time!

BeyondCanSeeTheEmperorsBellend · 23/01/2017 12:27

I had muesli for breakfast, then avocado, bacon and scrambled egg for lunch. And a sneaky bite of doughnut from DS Grin

Dinner is roast chicken, I think

Then for the rest of the week, DH has bought a 'lean in 15' cookbook, so it could be anything!!

lastqueenofscotland · 23/01/2017 12:29

My menu this week is
Tonight: sweet potato with feta
Tuesday: chickpea and pesto salad
Wednesday: probably a ready meal...
Thursday: Dahl and a mini naan bread.
Friday: left overs

Come back into the warm and fuzzy embrace of the thread

I might have a look at that app. I am tracking my weight in about 4 different apps

Thanks for the Libra tip. I'm doing MFP, so that has a progress graph. It's good to see that it's going down.

HairsprayBabe · 23/01/2017 13:29

How old are your kids Koko can they just not have what you're having with portions adjusted or are there allergies to consider?

Eg
Veggie curry with rice for everyone else and cauli rice for you
Spag bol but with spiralized veg for you
Frittata
Lasagne made with thin slices of aubergine rather than pasta
Burgers with no bun for you and vegetable chips for everyone
Mexican stuffed peppers - stuff peppers with mexican filling chili or refried beans and bake for 20 mins serve with salad add nachos for the kids
