Hello. Lovely new thread.

I've been okay so far today but yet to have dinner. Going to weight watchers for my weight in tonight - still doing mfp rather than ww but they don't need to know that! Will have gained because I haven't been in ages but I've had a loss this week ifkwim.

It's up to 1276 additional calories now which puts me on negative calories for the day (at least until I have that glass of wine later). I went for a walk this morning hunting Pokémon and shoving them in balls and then this afternoon I went for another walk, pushed over the closest gym and caught some more Pokémon. I need an excuse for a walk and imaginary beasties will do just fine. I had 9000 steps by 9am and I haven't looked but I suspect that I'm pushing 20000 steps now.

Pogo will lose its appeal once it gets wet and windy but it makes every walk different to the one before so although I'm covering the same route each time it's not boring.

Soooooooo ww thinks I have gained 5 and a half lb. What they don't know is that I have lost 4 lb in the past week. Queen of the yoyo dieters, that's me!

Never mind. I'm in the zone and that's what counts.

11st7 exactly, onward!

Hello new thread and new MFPers!

Busy day today, and I feel like i've forgotten to log something, but on the off chance I've remembered everything I'm in at a net of only fractionally over 1,200 today, which is practically unheard of for me.

After all the pedometer talk I have put an app on my phone and will make an effort to keep it in my pocket - I'll be interested to see what I clock.

stewards at least you're going in the right direction now, don't worry about last month/last year/five years ago.

Hello all, shiny new thread lovely.
Welcome to new faces, lots of losses and wedding bells Star

Not doing so well here, keep sabotaging myself and I don't know why.
I was really motivated to start with but seem to be dwindling a bit now the novelty has worn off Sad Blush
Was another 1lb down yesterday but still up over the start of last week, I think I will feel more motivated after I've got back down to Monday 19ths weight and am losing from there

Well I didn't look at mumsnet for a day and look what's happened!

I'm very annoyed right now. Nursery let DD nap today despite knowing that if they do she just won't sleep at night. DH is away and I'm being held hostage by an extremely overtired child who is refusing to sleep. I was asked at 3pm to sort out a presentation for tomorrow morning which I desperately need to finish. And I haven't eaten a thing since lunch. Starving.

Hoping she will drop off. And then I'll try to do my 30 day shred, eat, shower and stay up all night with power point.

Rant over.

I'm too hungry to read through all the messages now but I've had only 450cals (hence I'm starving). 17000steps. Planning to have some scrambled eggs with rashers.

Hi all. Please can I join you too. I've been lurking on previous threads and found all your posts and thoughts really helpful. I started the year at very close to my heaviest ever: 17st2, clothes were a (generous!) size 22, probably 24 in reality. My "official" weigh in day is Monday, and this Monday I weighed in at 11st10, which is my lowest weight since falling pregnant with DC2 who turns 11 shortly Fitting comfortably into size 14s now.

I've been using Mfp since around the end of January, and it's been a revelation compared with my old method of in my head, guesstimated calorie counting.

I would really, really love to be at a healthy BMI by year end (just a little 10st for me), but weight loss is now slower, and without adding more exercise I'm not sure how realistic that is. Hoping this lovely supportive thread will help keep me motivated and on track to get there.

Hi, hope it's ok for another newbie to joinGrin I've been using MFP for almost 2 weeks now, and I think I'm getting the hang of it, trying to record calories as accurately as I can when it comes to home made stuff. I was going to do 5:2 but have decided to stick with MFP only for now. I lost 2lb last week so I must be doing something right! I weigh on a Friday morning so time will tell this week.

Started off at 11stone, want to lose around 3 stone! I'm only 4ft 11' so that would be about right for me. MFP tells me I should be having around 1300 calories to lose a pound a week. I walk dd1 to take and pick dd1 up from nursery which is 0.6 miles a day, which records as more calories burnt than I thought it would.

Any tips and advice for a newbie would be appreciated, I look forward to joining in with you all!

Welcome april, spud, scribble, toffee and any other newbies I might have missed Smile

Aqua aerobics was fantastic, really great fun! I did end up drifting away from the main group a few times due to the current (never knew there were currents in pools!) but so did others lol Grin man running it made us keep moving throughout but it was good fun, even if my limbs are aching Grin
In at 1330 today so over my goal but going to aim for c.1000 tomorrow to account for that. Lunch was beans on toast, and a bliss raspberry muller yogurt thing (481). Dinner was lasagne (524). After aerobics I had porridge and 1.5 teaspoons of sugar (122). Then had a croissant with a tablespoon of nutella - really fancied something sweet and the croissants were fresh, but a new day tomorrow Smile

I've calmed down! She dropped off eventually. I actually made myself do 30DS at 1030 so I'm very proud! Then had a 3 egg omlette. Today's calories in were 1050- had some bread with my omlette. MFP giving me 800 for exercise but I know that's not right!

Off to bed now finally! Tomorrow I will catch up!

OMG Sugar what a horrible evening! Can't believe you managed to make yourself Shred at 10:30pm. I would have fallen straight into bed. Although I am the mad woman who is up by 5am every day for yoga, so exercise at strange times shouldn't shock me!

Made glad you enjoyed aquarobics - I've never tried it (must be one of the few exercises that I haven't).

Welcome Spud and april!

Cinder it's ok to have a bad day/week/whatever. The key is to dust yourself off and just get back on the case. Sabotaging yourself once doesn't mean you have to keep doing it.

Back down to 10.2.9, so all period bloat gone. And I have a whopping 48 hours to add some extra loss before my 1st October weigh in. I'm a daily weigher, but the monthly weight change is what I really look at. I'm already at 2.9lbs down for this month, which is miles better than the previous three months or so, but 3lb would be even better! It's a real slow and steady loss at this stage (I don't think I have more than another 12lb max to lose to feel like I'm at goal, even if I go a couple of lb below my actual goal to allow for some instant weight bounce back) so anything over a pound or two in a month feels good.

Sugar what a rubbish evening - I used to call my eldest the tiny terrorist, had more suppers sitting on my landing while she eye'balled me through the bars of her cot. Grim. So glad you escaped her clutches & she nodded off at last. Can't believe you did the shred after that, you madam are hardcore.
Welcome to all new additions. spud don't use the calories mfp is adding for your walk, best bank them. They're usually over calculated, I have my Fitbit linked to mfp & it recorded my 45 minutes of bootcamp as 64 cals burned but if I added it in mfp manually, it probably would have given me a few hundred. Focus on your food plan and try to get used to your calorie allowance.
april what a result so far, you're in the home stretch😉 You'll have to tell us how you did it so far.
cinder, just a bump in the road - no beating yourself up, doesn't burn any calories. Start the day well if you can & go hour by hour. One good day can be all you need to get back on track.
Looking good for the final push hope - another 1200 day could give it a good nudge

Thank you Not I thought that would be the case, I'll just ignore it from now on! Thinking about getting a Fitbit in the near future.

My period came a couple of days ago and whilst I've stayed around the 1200-1300 mark on most days this week something tells me I won't have lost this week, guess I'll find out in 24 hours.

I really must not weigh every day! I'm up half a pound up this morning and came in slightly under my calories yesterday Hmm how?

Working from home today and I need to move lounge around to make room for DD's new chair.

If it's consolation over I'm up .8 today to 11.2.4 and I only ate 1200 yesterday. The reason I do it is to keep track of the fluctuations but my official weigh in is Friday. It's only undigested food/fluid so pls don't be worried. If you let it get in your headspace you'll be halfway though the cupboard and then next week you will truly be up. Actual weight gain won't happen over night, which is why weight creeps on. Daily weighing also helps combat that. If the scales keeps rising, we know to reel it back a bit.
I'm like a dishrag this morning. Pretty achy from bc and I've another this afternoon - but that will help stretch out the muscles and kill some different ones

Over - I'm the worst for that, but keeping myself from weighing more than weekly because I know it's always such a headfuck when I do perfectly normal fluctuations take on a massive significance which they don't deserve! My sister is doing a sort of amended MFP/Joe Wicks combo improvised plan at the moment and she's only weighing monthly Shock if only I had her dedication...

Hello :)
I'm new to MFP, can I join you?

Been on it a week and had lost 3lbs although this morning I was 2 up again despite sticking to an average of 1100, so that post about daily fluctuations comforted me! As did the idea of the monthly weigh being the one you pay most attention to. I need to weigh each morning to keep it all on the agenda I find but the daily fluctuations are annoying even though I know they are nonsense...

Completely agree with this. I stopped eating back any exercise calories at all when I was struggling to lose the last of the baby weight - and hey presto, the last bit came off.
MFP really overestimates how much you burn. Now I stick to my 1200 aim regardless of exercise (whereas previously I'd be "earning" an extra 800 or so through running), and it works.

Hi everyone!

Can I join? I'm using nutracheck as find its easier than MFP. Nutracheck gives me 1400 calories a day and I'm expected to burn just over 300 cals a day.

My goal is to get to target for Xmas. I've got about a stone and a half to lose. I started in August and have lost about 9 pounds so far. Finding that slow and steady wins the race.Smile

I never eat my exercise calories though it doesn't shall/shan't factor when I'm hungry at 9pm.

Report
AprilLady · 29/09/2016 08:28

Completely agree that it helps to focus on gross not net calories. I treat any exercise as a bonus which will help me lose faster and get fitter, but focus on diet to create the calorie deficit that will keep the weight coming off.

I'm a daily weigher too, but only record weekly losses. What helps me is that my scales also record fat percentage and this tends to go down when my weight randomly goes up, so it's easier to convince myself it's bloat.

I've been aiming for 1200 gross calories a day, and usually manage to average between 1200 and 1250 a day over a week. Just looked back over 9 months of weekly weight recordings, and my weight has only actually increased over a week three times, two of those followed a holiday and only one was random. If you stick with it Over, it will work.

Overtiredbackagain · 29/09/2016 08:29

I won't let it affect my mindset, I'm starting to feeling so much better, I'm nowhere near as bloated, even DP has noticed.

I'd love to weigh monthly, but I'd struggle with weekly so unless I threw them away ......
