Haven't posted for ages. Hope you are all well. I'm just wondering what people are thinking about dieting over xmas. I want to keep my weight down but also love xmas food and will get two huge boxes of chocolates plus endless quality street. How are you all going to handle this festive season?

Not2bObvious · 24/11/2016 13:48

Hi cora, nice to hear from you. I can't do those tubs of sweets, they're 50-70 cals each & I can eat 8 in a row by 3 times without even tasting them! Last year I bought a really nice Lindt advent calendar & limited my chocolate intake to that 1 choc a day. I was sponsored by my dad& dh meaning we donated a few quid to a charity that hands out food parcels. It kept me to my pledge & reduced the extra cals I'd have snaffled. This year I'm also going to approach it with the mindset that Christmas is only 1 day, not 3 weeks of mindless munching

coragreta · 24/11/2016 15:16

I like the idea of limiting it to one advent chocolate however we have an advent house which you fill yourself. Hence the big tub of quality street and there is definitely more than 24 in a tub!
I also like the idea of Christmas being one day but it never is in our family as we have 4 Christmas days with each branch of the family. (Just us, my mum, my dad, partners family).
I'm going to try not to indulge too much in advent.

Not2bObvious · 24/11/2016 18:03

Never mind cora, you'll probably find after cutting back for so long you may be able to be quite restrained.
Session 3 of 4 done at the gym, v nearly didn't go but I'm glad I went I think? Ruined & destroyed, cooking dinner for 5, sigh...no rest for the wicked!

Oooo Xmas talk! I'm planning on having a few days off plan and dealing with the aftermath in Jan. It'll be my works xmas party night, Xmas day, Boxing Day and NYE. I'm hoping that way I won't feel like I'm missing out too much but won't put on too much weight but we'll see! I haven't bought a single thing yet or even thought about it. Need to get a move on!

All of you with your exercise classes/long dog walks/running are making me feel very lazy. My Pilates and once weekly horse ride isn't really enough. Probably explains why my scales seem to be broken and refusing to budge from the 10.13. I suppose it has only been 5 days since it went down to that but I'm impatient!

Well done on the loss daw Star

Needastrongone · 24/11/2016 22:25

I will run Christmas off I think Grin

Told you Loli, 7st sounds tiny, but I am tiny too!!!!

Daw Some of Christmas done, most not...

I have come in under today, mainly because of how busy the day has been. I never ever ever make it under my calories with the food I eat, I'm always over. It's the movement that makes such a massive difference for me.

Bathsheba3 · 25/11/2016 06:59

Down 0.75 from last friday to 11 7.75. Not quite officially at 11 1/2, but near enough for me to feel pleased with myself.

Yesterday was actually a struggle. Headache all day. Didn't feel motivated at all. Hence backlog of work today, so no more procrastination excuses.

Not2bObvious · 25/11/2016 07:47

That's great bath, was your goal 11.7 by the end of the month? If so you'll definitely hit that in 5 days. And if you've a busy day ahead, less chance of losing the plot?
goat don't be too concerned about exercise, diet is where you lose 80% of weight from. If you're cutting back enough, I'm sure you'll see a whoosh soon.
Scales at 11.4.6 this morning and into another weekend. I'm pondering how to manage my food, might just need to eat like I do during the week for 2 of the 3 days, maybe let myself have a treat meal tomorrow as I'll have enough time to rebalance before Tuesday. I want at least another kg gone, if I'm honest I want 1.5 but realistically I'm not a fast loser so 1 would be v good. I'm thinking griddled chicken/veg/bit of slaw tonight, maybe Thai or Chinese tomorrow and then steak on Sunday. It's the bones of a plan at least😉

coragreta · 25/11/2016 10:42

Well done bath. Sounds like you're on track.
Not a treat meal sounds alright. You've got to have some treats some times.
I did really well yesterday thanks to a super early night (I fell asleep at 7!) so no time for evening munching. Will finish today at 1459. I'm having one if those hungry days where you are hungry no matter how much you eat!
Also my scales are broken and I don't get my new ones until xmas so no idea what my weight is!

Sweetpea302 · 25/11/2016 11:17

Hi everyone!

I hope it's ok to jump on this thread?

I've been using MFP since the beginning of the month and have lost 9lbs so far. I'm happy with this, but I do feel like my losses are starting to slow down.

I'm averaging 1200 calories a day (between 1050 and 1150 during the week and 1500 at the weekend) but I've had quite a few days now where the scale hasn't budged!

I'm not sure if there's something that I'm doing wrong? Or if I even might need to start eating more, but making that protein perhaps? Or should I just be patient?!

I'm not finding 1200 all that difficult (it's amazing how much less hungry I'm getting!) so I don't feel the need to eat more if it's not going to help shift the weight.

Any advice you might have would be very welcome! Thank you!

coragreta · 25/11/2016 12:33

Hi sweetpea 9lbs in a month is loads, that's amazing!. I think you might need to re adjust your expectations. Weight loss takes time. It also makes a difference where you start from. So losing is easier if you weigh 20st compared to 10st. I would just be a little patient, continue doing what you're doing and maybe add in a little exercise.
There's been plenty of times the scale doesn't move for me either but you will get there eventually.
Hope you do well.

pyjamas89 · 25/11/2016 13:38

Hello all, sorry I have not been around for a while. I have had a quick skim back to see how everyone is getting on but so there is so much to read to catch up! Really hope everyone is doing ok.

I saw my GP earlier in the week and weighed in at 7.5lb less than when he last weighed me in August, though I think it's actually closer to 10lb I have lost in total. Feeling a bit more like it's achieveable now, though it's still another 10lb to go to my 'normal' weight. My new goal is another 6lb which I think will be back to a healthy BMI. Onwards and upwards eh?

Bathsheba3 · 25/11/2016 15:33

Welcome sweetpea , well done so far, and good advice Cora! 2 lbs / week is what is a healthy weight loss - i.e. doesn't interfere too much with your metabolism, and greater likelihood of weight staying off after. But I'm no expert, & you'll get much better advice and worded more eloquently from the lovely people on this thread.

And hello & a wave to Pyjamas - 10 lb (or even 7.5lb) is brilliant - huge well done to you at persevering! Great goals too.

I have resisted all temptations so far today, except my muesli / all bran for brekkie, and heated-up homemade leftover chicken & veg curry for lunch. Oh - and an apple as a treat!

Love the fact you have a 3-day weekend Not! Know what you mean though Wink. Your weight is burning off - it'll be 11 3 v soon

Not2bObvious · 25/11/2016 16:01

Well done pj! That's very good, do you see it yourself? 6lb as the next goal would be super, since you'd only 20lbs to lose you're well on the way. Hectic day, and only taken in 170 cals! Didn't have breakfast until after 12 and I'm only back from errands so I'm not that hungry. Going to hold out for dinner at 6'ish. It's an absolute revelation that I could eat one of my weekday dinners on a Friday. I know that prob sounds dim but I'd gotten used to having something "nice" cause it's Friday. No huge surprise that all my weeks hard week gets undone over the weekend. I will have some wine and chocolate tonight but I should (fingers x'ed) be within my 1200. Gym at 8am tomorrow. I quite like this session so I'm trying to force positive thoughts instead of dread. Off to look at the Gilmore girls now, too excited saddo

pyjamas89 · 25/11/2016 16:45

Thanks both.

Bath - well done on resisting, curry for lunch sounds lovely!

Not - sounds like a very busy day! It doesn't sound dim, I often feel the same. I find it so hard when it feels a bit like I have been conditioned to see food as a treat or a reward - you've done well at something let's go out for dinner/have a glass of wine/here's a cake or a box of chocolates etc... Well done on all the exercise and enjoy the wine and chocolate!

To be honest I can't really see it Not, I can still just see the flabby difference but I can see that I am probably being hard on myself in a way that I never would be on somebody else!

I am likely to return to work Monday week and bit the bullet of asking for the next size up in uniform. I decided worrying about whether my existing one is too tight to be professional is probably a worry I can do without.

DawheadAwgusEeentock · 25/11/2016 18:01

Loli I am sure your DD's 20's will be brilliant- and what a great start in terms of her being in a good place Flowers. Are you planning any surprises for Monday?

Cora great to see you back! Well done on the good days - gosh is that really frustrating not having a scales? Is there any way to borrow one - or would you try a scales in a shop/chemist? I'm not sure I could cope with not knowing.

I have been thinking about Christmas food a lot (with worry). We have already bought 4 tubs of sweets and I think they are about 3,500 cals each which means if I ate them all I would gain 4 lbs Xmas Confused. I really don't know what I'm going to do - I just hope I keep logging everything in MFP which will be a feat in itself.
Last year I was on a losing streak until the first week of December - then I fell off the chocolate wagon and gained 9lbs by the end of January Xmas Blush.

Not it's so great you did the gym session yesterday Flowers. I can well imagine how hard it is (says she doing no exercise) but you are going to look so fab for the Xmas party! I also approach Friday as a 'weekend' night in terms of food so no judgement here. That's fantastic so far today and fair play to you getting up early tomorrow for a class Star.

Goat aw 5 days isn't long really, and it could just be a bit of a plateau before you get a whoosh again!

Need I love the idea of running at Christmas - esp when everywhere is so quiet. You are really an inspiration for getting back on the treadmill.

Bath Woohoo - well done on hitting 11.7 StarStar! I decree the 0.75 ignored Wink. Keep up the resistance!

Sweetpea welcome Flowers and 9lbs is great - well done! That's brilliant that you're managing to average below 1200. If you read back these threads you will find lots of big losers (iykwim Wink) who went for weeks at a time without losing anything (a plateau) but then they had a big gain (a whoosh). That might be at all it is - so don't lose hope!

Pyjamas it's brilliant that you saw the loss with your GP! Sometimes we can forget how much progress we're making when we're tracking every day/week. 6lbs sounds like a very reasonable goal. I also think you're right about the uniform, and it will make it all the sweeter when you lose that 6lbs and have to go down a size again Grin.

So best laid plans etc etc yesterday - ended up going shopping after work and had a burger and chips as it was too late to cook when I got home - so finished on 1725 Sad. Went for a coffee this afternoon and couldn't resist a cake so today will be 1560 sigh.

Did get good news though - b/c I've lost weight I have to reduce my thyroid medication dosage - yay Grin. Unfortunately, it might also mean my metabolism has been running too high, so might explain why I've been losing so inexplicably the last few (high calorie) weeks Confused. Will have to start being very strict again soon - haven't had a soup day for ages.
