1 stone - 12 weeks challenge

SanityAssassin · 27/08/2016 22:53

I have been much less active than normal recently and have managed to put on half a stone in the last couple of weeks and I can really feel it (I am small - although not so now!)

I am now the heaviest I have ever been except for pregnancy.

losing a stone would be great and I'm giving myself 12 weeks to do it
I was aiming for Nov 14 as the end of my challenge (12 weeks) so not to far off.

will be mostly low carbing (as I know it works for me) plus joining DH in his 5:2 fasting madness :)

I like to weigh daily (I know its frowned upon) but it helps me.

Can someone talk to me about mfp please? I like the idea of it, and have even logged food on it a couple of times, but it just seems like such a faff! Is it, or is it me? I can see that if I ate ready meals say, then it would be easy to log calories, but for meals I cook myself I don't get how to work out the calories. If I type in cottage pie for example, they'll be a million differ entries with completely different calorie totals.

laidbacknecko · 31/08/2016 02:05

Is it to late to join this thread?

1 stone to go (previously lost 2, gained 1 1/2, lost 1/2 ) before I hit my target.

Losing the booze, cutting down on carbs, keeping busy with bits and bobs that need doing around the house basically trying to burn as many calories as possible fidgeting/moving around instead of parking my bum on the sofa

Donteatthekidssweets · 31/08/2016 07:20

Lapin, I use MFP and its gets easier as it remembers previous food entries you've made. I don't bother getting the exact food - ie if it's something home made - close is good enough to keep an eye on your calories. Stops me going mad with the biscuits at 10pm anyway.

Queenbean · 31/08/2016 07:25

Got up at hour early this morning to do a HIIT workout of arms and abs. Hopefully will be able to get up to fit these HIIT workouts in three times each week before work

LostSight · 31/08/2016 08:37

13st 4lb today. Must go for a walk so I can have more to eat (which is one of the great things about MFP).

thissismyusername · 31/08/2016 10:48

Bobbin I think we are twins! Not on the fitness and weights though only
same vital statistics, Im still squeezing into my 10's though and only bought one pair size 12 shorts so far.

I've gone from 30E to a 30G, and I have a roll of fat which hangs over my bra band which I'm not happy about.

I also find the food adder a pain, especially because there are so many options for each item. Im hoping that it will get easier with practice.

LiveLifeWithPassion · 31/08/2016 12:00

Hi. Can I join please?
I have 2.5 stone to lose but a stone would would be fab.
We ve just come back from visiting friends in the US who don't seem to eat much fruit and veg.
I'm therefore in a strange mode of craving fruit and veg but also wanting to binge on carbs.

I'm going to calorie count, increase fruit and veg and reduce wheat and sugar.

chipsandgin · 31/08/2016 14:52

Am I too late to the party!? Would love to join please, have 2 and a half stone to lose, but a stone in 12 weeks would be brilliant. Have my finger poised over the gym membership payment button and planning on cutting out crap and 5:2 (I've had the book for 2 years - funnily enough I haven't lost any weight by having it gathering dust on my bedside table!).

I've been mentally working towards 1st September and have a couple of health issues (underactive thyroid and adenomyosis) which makes losing weight a bit like fighting the tide. But I've had enough of being everyone's fat friend!

I think front and side photos (for ourselves!) and Monday weigh ins are a great idea. Am going to do a food diary too (but the old fashioned paper one and investigate MFP when I can). Will do a Thursday weigh in tomorrow to start with (because I have been in denial) & go from there..

BobbinThreadbare123 · 31/08/2016 15:50

thisismyusername - yes! I want back smoothness again! I don't seem to be able to turn it into muscle.

I have been quite good so far today: shreddies with sultanas for brekky (soya milk; can't have moo) and a chicken salad for lunch and lots of brews. I need to drink more water.

fruitstick · 31/08/2016 15:53

I weighed myself today.

14stone 9 - just short of my weight when 9 months pregnant!

I start tomorrow. September marks a new dawn Wink

CloudPirate · 31/08/2016 16:09

I'd like to join please! I have 3 stone to lose but have been stuck in vicious cycle of comfort eating/ drinking because the extra weight has been making me feel rubbish about myself, although I have had success with MFP in the past (generally pre-holiday when I know I'm going to be wearing swimwear).

I'll do first weigh tomorrow morning. Going to get back on to MFP to log food (generally try to eat around 1000 calories but will let myself go up to 1200, I don't eat back exercise calories though unless it's a special occasion when I know I'm going to go over and will exercise more to compensate). Also going to try and do couch to 5k 3 times a week (skipping the first couple of weeks though) and get through 30 day shred too.

Coldest · 31/08/2016 17:00

I started mfp but found it too tedious so left it . Current weight 185 lbs
Will weigh in on monday. Have been quite active past few days pushing baby around. Food wise have given up biscuits ice cream that kinda junk. Am also breastfeeding so hope this is enough

Coldest · 31/08/2016 17:02

Also finding difficult to keep up water. Have to remind myself.

Kaisha02 · 31/08/2016 19:45

A curry tonight followed by icecream. Only day two. Doh.

Niklepic · 31/08/2016 21:20

Ah well Kaisha, there's always tomorrow.

I'm just back from the gym for the first time since April. I won't be able to move tomorrow and im starving.Ice cream sounds good.

Queenbean · 31/08/2016 21:34

Had a good day again. Got up early and did a HIIT workout. Then had a banana for breakfast, chicken ratatouille with spinach and kale salad for lunch, snack of blueberries and a boiled egg, dinner of Thai spiced ground turkey with cashews, broccoli and sesame, then over a salad of spinach, peppers and sweet corn.

Delish! And feeling good!

Coldest · 31/08/2016 23:40

All the exercise posts finally made me move my but. Did some cardio and stretching. Starting slow. I like the 10 minute fitnessblender workouts as the longer ones bore and frustrate me.

10,000 steps and Pilates today. But of a slip with my food though Blush. Will try afresh tomorrow.

AmayaBuzzbee · 01/09/2016 10:01

Great to see people getting back to some kind of exercise! I've managed to get back to running and exercise DVDs too.

Usually when I am on mission to get back to my "happy weight", I have a gung-ho approach wanting quick results, weighing everyday, and usually I have some target event too by when I want to reach my goal. I never stay long at happy weight like this though (event over = old habits & weight back).

This time I feel different. I am in no rush, there is no target event, I just realise I need lasting results this time so I'm happy to take it slow. I am aiming form new habits and way of eating. I also need to adjust to smaller portions in general. Happy to listen to my body and let ot take the lead.

And, only going to weigh myself on Mondays, hopefully this means I'll be able to see a small drop most weeks 😃

Lapinlapin · 01/09/2016 14:57

I managed a 7 mile run this morning, so feel good, if a bit achey now!

Food wise it's ok, but I have a feeling I'm not being strict enough with myself.
Thanks for the mfp tips. Looks like I start need to stick with it and put up with a bit of faff. If I'm honest I probably do eat a lot of the same things, so I suppose once I've entered some foods it should get easier.

Amaya that sounds a really positive and healthy approach. I think I could do with forming new habits too.

CloudPirate · 01/09/2016 16:43

On MFP I put most things in as recipes - if the recipes are online you can just paste the address then confirm the ingredients - takes 5 mins but then you can just add it from your recipes every time you make it?

Weighed myself this morning Sad am being extra good today but remembered I am out at an event tomorrow which will involve alcohol so not good! Was toying with the idea of dry September but I may just say no alcohol at home/ on a weekday and give myself the option of having a G&T at the weekend if there's an occasion Confused

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/09/2016 16:51

Argh! I started a new job today and they fed me....steak pie and chips! I'll have to behave at tea time and tomorrow. Also didn't do very well on the water intake. Did a HIIT class last night though.

glenthebattleostrich · 01/09/2016 17:37

Just back from legolans, walked 13 miles in 2 days. Food wasn't great, drank too much in evenings but did walk a total of 14.7 miles. 5 hours in the car coming home so need to do an exercise video tonight (probably a short one lime shred).

No booze September starts today and the birthday gin and chocolatei s being hidden. Back on the food wagon today, had bacon and mushrooms for lunch, some raspberry and nuts for lunch and am making Bolognese for tea. Very smug that I avoided the burger king for lunch :)

thissismyusername · 01/09/2016 21:49

Very good tip about adding the recipes from internet to MFP, I hardly ever cook from recipes and have been writing down every ingredient then making a calorie per gram then weighing each portion. Made a nice chicken and red peppers stew.65 calories per 100g!

I was really tempted to binge today but managed to resist, I have been lying down and hardly doing anything, I managed an hours swim at the last minute though, which gives me about 500 more calories. I hope Im doing this right. I have been below my target calories so far every day.
