Morning all. Up 3.6 from Friday's weigh in but I can feel a good amount of that is junk/bloat in my system. Not feeling the sniffles as much this morning and the godawful headache has lifted, although not going to overdo it - will probably do a run tomorrow to get back on track with exercise. I have just under 6 weeks until a week in the sun, 1lb a week would do me (even .5 of a pound)

StewardsEnquiry · 30/08/2016 10:26

New batteries in my scales. Up 3lb over the long weekend Shock and I am going out for dinner too where I am bound to be fed pasta. I think I am going to resign myself to today being not great food choice wise whilst also trying not to just go crazy and eat everything. And start in earnest again tomorrow.

Stewards if you have a light lunch a pasta meal shouldn't do too much damage. I've stayed on track since getting back from my holidays, but have a feeling my ice cream/cake/other indulgences from last week may show themselves before I have another loss.

I'm feeling less bloated after a weekend of eating well though. My jeans went on much easier this morning than they did last week (and they've been washed in between).

Bathsheba3 · 30/08/2016 11:27

Morning all - and thanks for the mention sesame & dawhead. And welcome sophiestew.

Well, I did it. I got on the scales. 12 st 9 lbs. So a whole stone UP from what I was at beginning of the year. BlushBlushBlush. But I'm already 2 lbs down from last Tuesday. And I even went out for a hippo run today.

I'm on a mission for September.

SesameSparkle · 30/08/2016 12:06

bath I was 12st10 at the start of the year and I’ve managed to lose 2.5st of that – if I can do it, anyone can. Well done on getting started and for the run!

sugar nice work on the jeans

stewards perhaps you could eat out but still try make sensible choices? E.g. go for the pasta main, but try to avoid garlic bread etc.

not glad you are feeling better, good luck with the run tomorrow

hopefully fingers crossed it will be plain sailing to your next reward weight. What will you buy yourself do you think?

wally that makes for an interesting food diary. If you are enjoying the food and you are getting results that’s a win.

cora welcome, this is a good place to get started again

dawhead welcome back, keep logging and keep reporting back – you can do this!

sophie just pick the target that you think you can stick to and keep logging – hopefully that should get you some results.

My weight is hovering a smidgen above 10st3 this morning. That’s okay by me for now. I went over my calories yesterday though and planning to cook something nice for dinner tonight. Fingers crossed I can still keep things on track and get myself to an even 10st.

Lolimax · 30/08/2016 12:19

Hi all I'm back from the festival and although I drank like a fish I ate well and managed not to put any weight on so was 14.1 today. My aim now is another stone off by Christmas which is do-able. I bottled the 5k run but did manage the 2.5k in just over 18mins and I was so chuffed as I never run anywhere. It helps so much having all your inspirational stories on here.
I don't want to derail but I'm contemplating a Fitbit. Has anyone got one, what do you think of it and does it link to MFP?

Hopefully · 30/08/2016 13:36

Sesame I have my rewards all planned out for the next 10lb I think! The next one will be a heinously expensive full length camel cashmere cardigan that I have been coveting for a while, which I imagine I will swish elegantly in. I literally reward every new lb loss (i.e. if I get down to 10st 6lb twice with a bloat in between, I don't get two rewards! Only when I get down to 10st 5lb), so I tend to alternate cheap and expensive rewards, and the next couple of expensive ones are replacements for items that are now too big in my wardrobe (underwear, leather leggings). It is such a shallow method for making me lose weight, but it totally works Blush.

Bathshebe well done for getting on the scales! Being honest with yourself is the first step. I often get frustrated that I was at 10st 10lb-ish for about a year, and just gained and lost the same half stone repeatedly. it's only in the last couple of months that I've managed to crack that barrier and consider myself as firmly into the 10st 7lb camp, and I'm hoping to be down to 10st by the end of the year.

I am really enjoying(!) being back at home and in charge of my food choices again. lots of wholesome houmous, veg and a bit of naughty in the form of pitta bread, but at least the house isn't also full of too-easy-to-give-in-to sugary temptations like the places I've been over the past week. Feeling really confident today, and have lovely white fish, sweet potato mash and greens for dinner - my kids for some reason think this is an excellent meal, so it's a great healthy family one.

EmilyDickinson · 30/08/2016 13:59

Can I join in?

The weight crept on very gradually after having children until I found that I really didn't like the way I looked in photographs (I think I'm able to kid myself when I look in the mirror!)

I started MFP about a stone and a half overweight. I have quite a slim build so that really didn't look good and I'd had more than one person ask if I was pregnant again. I followed the allowances religiously and slowly but surely reached my target weight and felt great. Then I was ill, lost a further half stone and looked haggard. After that I ate whatever I wanted without recording anything, as I needed to put on weight and now find myself 4 - 6 pounds over with all my clothes feeling tight again.

So I'm going to MFP again as I know it works for me. I guess I just need to be more careful about not going mad once I reach the maintain phase. Last time around I pretty much had the same thing for breakfast and lunch each day, which were lowish in calories (porridge and soup), but filled me up and then I didn't have to skimp too much on the evening meal.

I've also got pretty bad at making sure I exercise so I'm going to try and build that back into my day.

Not2bObvious · 30/08/2016 16:41

I have a Fitbit for the last 2.5 years & I love it. Yes links to mfp so that's handy. Mine is the Fitbit one (I think?) sits in the middle of my bra (mind you don't wash it!)
I went for a run last week and forgot to put it in my sports bra before I went. I was 😡😡😡😡 It galled me that I'd ran all those steps and it wasn't recorded

coragreta · 30/08/2016 16:56

I have a vivofit which is similar to a Fitbit and I love it. It syncs well my mfp. It's fab.

EmilyDickinson · 30/08/2016 17:52

I have a Fitbit, which I love but haven't been recording calories eaten on it and have focused on trying to do steps rather than more vigorous exercise and have been patting myself on the back for just ambling around. I think it has kept me a bit more active than otherwise, though I fear my eating has outpaced the exercise so I need to tackle both those things now. Once I've got myself back on track with MFP I might try and synch Fitbit and MFP, though I'm not very techy so I hope it's not too complicated to do.

Day 1 is okay so far though I now realise that my MFP was still set to "maintain" and now that I've reset it to "lose 1 pound a week" I seem to have hardly anything left for the day. Sad. Off for a walk to earn some more calories!

coragreta · 30/08/2016 17:57

Ive made a big mistake and eaten tea early! (With my lo) Ahhhh. I've only got 18 calories left to last the night.
Any one get any go to low cal snacks? Under 50 calories would be good?

EmilyDickinson · 30/08/2016 18:28

One clementine or one plum or one ginger biscuit are all under 50 calories.

Fitterbysixty · 30/08/2016 19:10

Lolimax I have a Jawbone Up, I bought it because it was at the time the cheapest thing that Amazon had as a warehouse deal and I didn't know whether I would use it. That was 1.5m steps ago. It has been fantastic for getting me moving, I really do like to see the steps adding up. I signed up to World Walking and I'm now something like 85% around a route in the Canadian Rockies. Next time I will be picking a shorter route, ideally with more Google Streetview because I like to have a look around wherever I walked to that day.

I'm hoping that MFP is going to make with the confetti soon. In the real world I've lost 2 stone but MFP lags 2lb behind my scale weight because I find the up-down-up-down thing to be a real demotivator. Feeling like a failure is a dangerous thing for me because then I start on the cheese. I think that MFP thinks that I'm just halfway to my target now so it should be downhill from here.

Whoever said that weight loss begins in the kitchen rather than the gym was right, the teen has lost 10lb because I've stopped buying biscuits and ice cream and DH has lost 5" off his belly. I still have 2 stone to lose, everyone else could stand to lose a bit more (if DS has a final growth spurt then he might grow into a healthy BMI). I am considering joining a gym now that my hips are 4" smaller and I look more in proportion but it's going to take a while to decide whether I go to the one in the village or the one at DS's college.

When I've lost another two stone we will be having a holiday that involves flying because I won't worry about being able to get my bum in a seat. I carry most of my weight from the waist down, my hips are always the deciding element in whether something will fit me. It's been nice seeing my cheekbones emerge but I'd rather the weight be going from where it causes me the most problems.

Hello EmilyDickinson. I gather that adjusting to a maintenance programme is difficult, it will be a while until I've lost enough to start thinking about changing to a maintenance lifestyle.

Fitterbysixty · 30/08/2016 19:10

Holy wall o'text! Maybe if I posted more often then I wouldn't need to catch up quite so much.

Lolimax · 30/08/2016 19:21

Oh I forgot to say I had confetti today on MFP as I'm 50% towards my target apparently! I didn't start on MFP until I'd lost some weight but it was still nice to see.
And thanks for the info about Fitbits and the like. I think I'll crack and get one.

ellanutella8 · 30/08/2016 20:08

Hi, please can I join?
Been doing weight watchers and am still following that plan/going to meetings for accountability but also started using mfp as I'm interested in the nutritional side of things as well.
Just been for weigh in am 10.13. Got to keep it up this week as I am losing hope, my weight loss seems to be so slow going (10lbs in 4 months).
I need your support!

sugarmonster64 · 30/08/2016 20:31

I'm in. I need some accountability but can't face WW or SW. I've put on 2 stone in 3 years and it's getting to the point of not being ok. I eat when I'm stressed (all the time atm sadly) and my body feels tired. I want goodness back with the promise of an occasional g&t and a freshly baked scone. So I'm starting tomorrow and will just have to get used to logging food again and being careful and not eating about 5 biscuits a day because they're in front of me

sugarmonster64 · 30/08/2016 20:32

Forgot to add I have 3 stone to lose ideally

StewardsEnquiry · 30/08/2016 20:44

I feel pretty horrid just now. I have eaten rather too many carbs today, and that is on the back of a weekend of rather too much of everything. So I have gained back what I lost last week and feel yucky. My thighs are big, my tummy is bloated and my clothes are tight. I hate feeling this way.

And I am annoyed with myself for the excuses I use. It is more difficult to make good choices when I have social things on, but it it is my hand and my mouth - I get to decide what goes in!

Argh! So I am going to go to the weigh in tomorrow and face the music. A litttle voice keeps suggesting that I skip the weigh in tomorrow and try really hard next week and go the week after, but that way madness lies.

So porridge for me in the morning and then lots and lots of water. Onwards and downwards.

DawheadAwgusEeentock · 30/08/2016 21:50

Working backwards today..

Oh Stewards you are where I was a few days ago Flowers. All I can say is try to turn that anger with yourself around into motivation to start again. Ignore the little voice and do go to the weigh-in tomorrow. I promise you will feel better with yourself that you went - even if the numbers aren't great. This is only a tiny blip in the grand scheme of things and every weekend will not be like this. And in a week or two you will feel doubly better for bouncing back so quickly Flowers.

sugarmonster welcome - there are a lot of us just starting on here at the moment.

ellanutella (great name Grin) welcome as well. I think a lot of folks on here are around that weight and reaching a plateau - you will get lots of help and inspiration!

Loli well done on the confetti Star and also on not gaining while you were away - very jealous Wink. And well done on the 2.5k - 18 mins is brilliant!!! I have one of the older Fitbits - can't pretend it motivates me really but it's a fun gadget. It told me today I've walked the length of Japan since I got it Grin. One thing I love though is that I have the Fitbit scales so they integrate with it and the app logs my weight & BF for me.

Fitter I know - it's so busy here - tis great Grin. I had never heard of World Walking - must investigate it sounds v cool. That is brilliant about your family and the positive impact it's had. Would definitely encourage the gym - that is my long term goal too once I've lost about a stone.
2st is brilliant - could you put 'interim' goals into MFP for that extra bit of motivation?

Welcome Emily and your story before is v inspiring. You don't have much to lose at all so it will probably be challenging enough but you have done the hardest part which is setting your mind to it and starting!

Hopefully your rewards idea is so fantastic. I haven't started my list yet but I do keep thinking of things to add to it virtually Grin. You have done so well to keep logging and it definitely rings a bell talking about a feeling of control with food at home.

Sesame you have done so great and you are v close so you can afford to take it slowly now.

Bathsheba the worst part is over now - getting on the scales Flowers. Well done on the 2lbs already and the run!!!

Sugar that must have been a great feeling with the jeans and well done on a good weekend.

Not2b sorry I hadn't seen that before I posted - how's it going Grin. Was I being mean/generous describing Dunnes like that? Wink. Glad you're on the mend and 1lb a week is definitely do-able - you'll be fab for the holiday!

Wally I've never heard of slim and save - is it a bit like slim fast? Thank you for sharing the recipe - I have never heard of some of those ingredients before Blush we are very boring in the Dawhead house.

Welcome cora wow that was an amazing loss last year - you can give us tips!

Hope I haven't missed anyone.

Going well since yesterday - did c25k tonight instead as I got caught on a late work call last night - was very miffed. It was hard starting back but feel so brilliant now that I did it.

Today going well - not a soup day in the end but not bad around 1100:
B: Porridge 190
L: Poached egg, slice of bread and a few choccie biccies Blush 420
D: Spag bog 450

Stewards that should be our thread motto - Onwards and Downwards!

coragreta · 30/08/2016 21:52

Try not to be so hard on yourself. Is there any way you could squeeze in a little exercise before bed? I find that even though it might not cancel the calories it makes me feel better.

I went for a highlights hot chocolate in then end. 40cals. Sorry but a plum just wasn't going to cut it.

Bathsheba3 · 30/08/2016 22:12

I had spag bol (not spat bog!) for tea too Dawhead. I don't think my portion was anything like 450 cals. But I haven't had any sugar, plus a combined breakfast / lunch of poached egg on rye bread. Snap!

The VERY big thing for me is I'm going to do my best to quit alcohol for the next month. Wine is my downfall. But one glass is always accompanied by another, and by something to munch on too. I am going to be very moody and miserable but I have to break the habit.

Stewards - hang in there. Bad week so far - but start afresh tomorrow. Plus 1st September Thursday - good date to refocus.

Hope everyone else doing OK this evening

Bathsheba3 · 30/08/2016 22:13

(I meant my portion was huge Blush)

Not2bObvious · 30/08/2016 22:50

Poor stew, I know that feeling of being mad at yourself, getting full up good intentions....then just getting full😞 You just pick yourself & get back on, like a car bonnet as I'm fond of saying😁
Doing good'ish today, food wasn't as clean (hamburger & small chips for lunch😳) but cals around 1250, that'll do pig
