Five weeks to lose one stone, anyone want to join me?

Guessinggame2016 · 12/04/2016 10:13

That's it really! Have had to start on tablets for high BP, I have underactive thyroid - taking Thyroxine and also have PCOS.
I am 40 in a few months.
I know it's harder for me to lose weight with the above conditions but surely it's not impossible. I've been doing SW for 6 months and lost 12 lb but have put 4 lb back on over Easter. Not possible to go to SW at the moment due to work/uni commitments and DH long working hours.
My plan is to lose one stone in five weeks initially.
Then another stone by my holiday in August.
Thinking of low carb, cutting out sugar and doing more exercise.

So, I weigh in today at....11 st 12.

Does any want to join me, or give any advice to help on low carb, sugar?

And me tango, not sure how much piggy I can get tbh. The puddings in work have been my downfall all week. Crumble, vieneese whirls, flapjack ect ect and now I've started on the crisps at home. Need to get my head back in the right frame of mind.

PetersonPeterson · 28/04/2016 18:30

Quim, I also feel like I'm making progress despite only showing a couple of pounds on the scales. I have been running most days and walking lots and I'm using MFP to track exercise and food. Have massive cut down on snacks and chocolate. Am eating same thing for breakfast and lunch every day and varying supper. I find that helps keep things under control. I'm having:
1 yoghurt or Greek yoghurt and fruit for breakfast
Americano coffee mid morning
Many cups of tea
2 eggs on one slice toast for lunch
1 square dark chocolate
Blueberries or other fruit to snack on
Evening meal with loads of veg and then 2 squares of dark chocolate
Drinking lots of water. And usually a gin and slimline tonic once kids are in bed.
It's about 1250 calories and o have lost 2 lb in the last week.

Those who have fallen off the wagon, start again tomorrow. Don't lose motivation! It won't matter to have had a few bad days, just start afresh tomorrow. Keep going!!

TakesTwoToTango · 28/04/2016 18:54

Thanks Peterson Smile

whirlygirly · 28/04/2016 23:30

Hooray, 161 so halfway to the magic stone Smile
Feeling a lot better now, the layer of flab is definitely a bit thinner! Going to do another half stone at 1.5lbs off a week, then switch to 1lb a week for a month and then 0.5 a week until I settle where I need to be (look best at just over 10 stone)

I've just got to maintain it this time. Grrrr.

Don't worry if you're off the wagon, just get back on. It's only a blip.

Notsoskinnyminny · 29/04/2016 07:13

I'm another one whose wagon's hurtled off into the distance but and it's a big BUT 4 wks today I'll be on my way to see my skinny DD so I need to get back on track and think of all my lovely but snug summer clothes and how much better they'll look and I'll feel if they fit

QuimReaper · 29/04/2016 10:26

Definitely climb back on the wagon guys! I am actually planning to fall off the wagon over the long weekend. I'm making macaroni cheese for dinner tonight, I have a birthday celebration tomorrow, and DP is away on Sunday so I'm having Prosecco and pizza (I've been thinking about it for weeks!) and I'm going out for lunch wit a friend on Monday Grin

I think because it's a planned fail I have no guilt about it, whereas when you have good intentions but don't stick to them, you feel awful. On Tuesday I'll be right back on it. Three weeks' progress won't be completely undone in three days.

QuimReaper · 29/04/2016 10:27

Notso I'm sure your own daughter won't be judging you over your weight!

Notsoskinnyminny · 30/04/2016 13:18

She won't and she doesn't Quim its me who judges me whereas she'll say I'm in better shape than some of her friends who are 25 yrs younger when I moan about my flabby bits. I lost loads (too much if I'm honest) when her dad buggered off with his slapper and I'm much happier with now DH so should stop beating myself up because I'm no longer a size 8-10 and take those summer dresses to the charity shop.

Enjoy your weekend, pizza sounds good Grin

Kim82 · 30/04/2016 13:41

Can I join please? I'm wanting to lose a stone in 4 weeks. I joined slimming world yesterday and I managed 1.5 stone in 6 weeks last time (then gave up - grrr) so I'm hoping I can lose 14lb in 4 weeks. I do need to lose 3.5 stone in total but want to lose the first stone quickly to spur me on.

ClutterofStarlings · 02/05/2016 09:06

Still no working scales here, but I'm pretty sure I'm not getting fatter at least. Despite Brand continuing to tell us about puddings!

Does anyone have any scales recommendations? We had a mechanical set, v ancient, but husband said unreliable (I think he was doing it wrong 🙄) then we had an electric set, but this is what just packed up. I don't think our floors are terribly level if that makes a difference.

Tillibean · 02/05/2016 14:48

Hello!!Smile Can I join please. I have already lost nearly 2 stone last year but have maintained since Christmas. Need to get it moving again.

whirlygirly · 02/05/2016 15:13

Hi and welcome newcomers, please can we keep this thread going , I need the motivation! I haven't been logging everything this weekend as its been a bit social so I've just tried to make sensible choices and stop when I'm full.

I've just been into town and tried a few bits on. It's nice to be a comfortable 12 again rather than a lardy one Grin half a stone to go!

Tillibean · 02/05/2016 15:26

Sounds good WhirlySmile

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 03/05/2016 22:27

Oh dear
Too many custard creams today
And the day started SO well.

QuimReaper · 04/05/2016 12:00

I'm back on the wagon today!

I'd hoped to be yesterday, but I... wasn't Blush

Can any of you lovely lot recommend me a good microwave egg poacher, whilst I am hobless?

QuimReaper · 04/05/2016 12:03

Clutter I bought some dogs-bollocks state-of-the-art £70 digital scales (in the sale) and having exactly the same problem. I'm beginning to conclude that scales simply aren't that accurate; I've even seen people in various internet locations saying those giant monstrous ones you get in Boots and Health Centres are inconsistent from one to the next, so maybe it's just never possible to be entirely sure?

I am stunned by this though, I'm always hearing people saying things like "I've lost half a pound this week" - I can lose four times that by rotating my scales 90 degrees...

Deux · 04/05/2016 12:27

Just a word on digital bathroom scales.

You need to calibrate the scales each time if you've moved the scales. This (I think) resets the parts to weigh accurately.

So place your scales where you want them to be. Then either stand on them fully or just put one foot on so that the display comes on and you see some numbers.

Then weigh yourself without moving the position of the scales.

Each time you move the scales you'll have to recalibrate.

I had to research this myself as I thought my scales were crap as I'd get 2 different results if I weighed myself one after the other.

I store my scales upright and if I weigh myself straight after moving them to a flat position it is 2lb out. You can test it by weighing yourself several times consecutively and apart from your first go, all the others should read the same.

Smile
QuimReaper · 04/05/2016 12:33

That's terrific advice Deux - I store mine upright too, and nearly returned them last week, but after moving them around and getting on and off them a bunch of times I started getting a consistent result, was undecided about whether to believe them! I'll persist with them in that case!

BrandNewAndImproved · 04/05/2016 13:36

I'm back on the wagon ish.

I ate a huge bar of chocolate that I was only going to have one line of squares, felt bad so went for a jog and my heads back in the game now. No more crap. My dc were laughing at my jiggly bum when I picked them up from school in my running clothes.Blush so loads of broccoli today for lunch and an apple until later.

ClutterofStarlings · 04/05/2016 15:10

Ooh thanks deux that will at least save me dropping lots of money on a set. The problem with ours was that they wouldn't settle on a number at all - whizzed up and down (265lbs! I don't think so yet!) but wouldn't stop anywhere. Made you quite cross eyed after a bit.

We have walked 4.5 miles today which felt more like ten.
Had rather a vegetable free lunch with too much butter, but no morning snack & it's nearly teatime, so should do okay this afternoon. Can't get to the kitchen just now anyway as under sleeping baby :)

TaurielTest · 04/05/2016 15:54

I'm still quietly at it here - not weighing myself yet, but 4 days into a May challenge of exercise, earlier nights, more water and no sugar.

QuimReaper · 04/05/2016 16:07

All I've eaten today is 2 x hard boiled eggs, shortly after eating them my stomach started to grumble and churn and I keep feeling like I'm going to be sick! Shock I guess my indulgent weekend is catching up with me. Hoping it's that and not norovirus or anything vile...

QuimReaper · 04/05/2016 16:09

FYI Clutter I bought these ones for the amazing bargain and reviews.

Some day we might have a proper-sized bathroom so I can leave them in one place...!

whirlygirly · 04/05/2016 18:31

Well I'm still the same 161 lbs but suddenly I can pull the waistband of my trousers out a couple of inches. So I'm taking that one.

Hoping for a little drop tomorrow, the bank hol weekend has taken its toll! I do need to see progress each week to stay motivated.
