Five weeks to lose one stone, anyone want to join me?

Guessinggame2016 · 12/04/2016 10:13

That's it really! Have had to start on tablets for high BP, I have underactive thyroid - taking Thyroxine and also have PCOS.
I am 40 in a few months.
I know it's harder for me to lose weight with the above conditions but surely it's not impossible. I've been doing SW for 6 months and lost 12 lb but have put 4 lb back on over Easter. Not possible to go to SW at the moment due to work/uni commitments and DH long working hours.
My plan is to lose one stone in five weeks initially.
Then another stone by my holiday in August.
Thinking of low carb, cutting out sugar and doing more exercise.

So, I weigh in today at....11 st 12.

Does any want to join me, or give any advice to help on low carb, sugar?

Well done guessing! 2lbs is a good, solid loss.

JustHereForTheLaffs · 20/04/2016 10:16

I really need to lose a stone. My weaknesses are chocolates, crisps and crispy bread rolls with butter Blush

I'm 5'7 and about 11.5 stone. I could lose more, but would be quite happy if I lost one stone, my clothes would fit again.

BrandNewAndImproved · 20/04/2016 16:03

2lbs a week is a really healthy way to lose weight well done.

Iced buns are back on the menu at school, I haven't had one since I left school so of course I had to have one... They came out massive as well. Blush

whirlygirly · 20/04/2016 16:23

Wahey - 5lbs down now. 10 more to go. It's been 2.5 weeks at 1300 cals (through mfp) and not been too painful at all.
I've been meal planning and shopping well ahead, which I've always been useless at and has really helped.

I can feel it's come off my hips, which is a welcome development. My thighs are always last..!

asilikeit · 20/04/2016 17:39

Can I join?! I know I'm late to the party but I have 5 weeks until a holiday and whilst I know I'm not going to loose everything I want I could realistically loose a stone as I have it to loose Blushstarted yesterday and i feel good about the taking control bit I'm just shaming myself for letting me get to this point !

TakesTwoToTango · 20/04/2016 21:15

Well done whirly and welcome asilike

TakesTwoToTango · 22/04/2016 01:45

Hello, how is everyone doing?

I'm feeling motivated today and had an ok day food-wise and a great day exercise-wise with a 30 min run and an hour brisk walk. I feel like I must be making progress however I had a cheeky step on the scales this morning and they haven't moved even a fraction of a pound ShockAngry. For now I am choosing to believe that I am losing fat but gaining muscle (in exactly equal amounts...?) but it is frustrating. I need to see some progress soon for my will power to survive. I'm not sure I could cut back on food any further as I'm sooooo hungry all the time (ebf and I'm sadly not one of those women for whom it magically melts the baby weight away!).

whirlygirly · 22/04/2016 07:01

Don't lose heart, takes two, I remember doing all this before(!?!) and it was odd how the scales seemed to stick at certain weights for ages on the way down and suddenly just give and a few lbs would go at once.

I'm currently stuck at 163.4 lbs! It's only been a few days but it's so motivating to see even the smallest downward shift every day. Hang in there. Smile

QuimReaper · 22/04/2016 08:35

TakesTwo scales are tricky beggars - I had exactly the same thing last week, I starved all week but had an indulgent Friday and was so disappointed I'd lost less than a pound on Saturday morning! I did feel a bit slimmer though, and most people recommend using a tape measure as well, because you can go down without the scales going down much (although someone more scientific will have to explain why), just keep going! Don't lose heart!

I am DREADING my weigh-in tomorrow though, because I know I've given it my all this week (more so than last week) and if I see no loss / a piddly little loss again, I will have a hard time not sinking into a gloom and eating an entire loaf of bread in one sitting, wailing "WHAT'S THE POOOOOOOOINT?" through mouthfuls....

QuimReaper · 22/04/2016 08:38

I was also chatting to a friend yesterday who's been slogging away at the 5:2 for absolutely months and lost hardly anything; but she does look slimmer, says people have commented, and her clothes are looser. I don't get how it happens and think she's amazing for carrying on without the motivation from the scales, but that's the real aim, isn't it?

TakesTwoToTango · 22/04/2016 14:32

You are right, the real aim is to look and feel better, and I do feel better for tackling my overeating and getting fitter. It would be great if there was a magic pill though GrinI found myself mulling over the concept of liposuction while in the shower his morning! I would never do it though, having seen a video of it being done - bluergh! I have resisted my sugary latte again this morning and am meeting a friend to go walking in a bit. Onwards and downwards!

TakesTwoToTango · 22/04/2016 14:33

quim gook luck for the weigh in! Every little bit counts and especially as you have worked so hard for it!

TakesTwoToTango · 22/04/2016 14:34

Thanks for the support whirly! The scales this morning suggested a very small loss so I'm hoping it's real! Here's hoping you are about to get a post-plateau drop yourself.

QuimReaper · 22/04/2016 15:49

Since I have you all here, does anyone else have trouble keeping their scales consistent?

I bought some new ones just a couple of weeks ago in preparation for my diet, that had fantastic reviews, and used them on the bathroom floor which has large tiles. I thought I'd positioned the "feet" so they were all one one tile and not in a dip, as I knew that might affect the result; but when I got a suspiciously low reading I tried a different tile before I got overexcited, and sure enough, it went up Sad In the end I had to lug them downstairs where we have an untiled hard floor to check down there, and got the same reading as the second one, but it's made me doubt everything.

I had that problem with our old scales but thought that was because they were a rubbish ten-quid pair, am annoyed to have the same problem with a pair that retail at 70! (Even though I got them on sale for much less than that.) Is it just always a problem with digital scales?

QuimReaper · 22/04/2016 15:55

TakesTwo I'd be lying if I said I haven't had the same thought, there is something so tantalising about the idea of just magicking it all away.

To be honest I might do it if I won the lottery, but my first instinct would be to go on some kind of fabulous retreat with a nutritionist and personal trainer and do it myself. It would be a slippery slope for me; once I knew I could just suck it all out again I'd find it impossible to control myself Grin

SellMySoulForSomeSleep · 22/04/2016 16:02

Can I join? I'm scared to weigh myself. I'm about 14 st I think. I want to get down to a size 14 from a 16. So I think that's a stone.

I'm doing more walking and cutting back on bread, cheese and chocolate. All my favourite things!

AllThingsNautical · 22/04/2016 16:58

I'm another one on Exante. I've done a similar diet in the past and it really works quickly. I kept the weight off for a year but then got pregnant and developer various health issues and piled it all plus some extra in again. I have the motivation this time of knowing I can stick to it, knowing it works and knowing I can maintain reasonable eating habits. I'm not doing the full on hardcore version this time; I'm doing shakes/bars for breakfast, lunch and snack and a low-carb dinner. Well, I'm only on Day 1 so that's my plan anyway.

For me, once I get to a certain point I just can't pull myself out of the bad habits without an almost total break from food altogether. I know that I go off overly sugary, processed, high carb food after a few weeks off it but I don't have the willpower to get there unless I'm on a completely restrictive diet with firm rules. I've paid for a month's worth of Exante so now I HAVE to do it! There's no wiggle room with 'oh, just a taste or a little bite' which for me becomes stuffing my face. Once that food is totally off limits, I don't even really crave it. I find it really hard to give up fruit though, probably because I feel it's healthy so it's harder to feel like I need to stay away from it.

I've been driving myself mad stop-starting with various healthy eating kicks and I keep thinking "if I'd started a month ago, I'd have lost half a stone by now' - so I'm doing this for the me a month from now!!

I find the Shred and Ripped in 30 AMAZING for weight loss and super-quick results in terms of fitness. C25k was good as well and very satisfying. I can't seem to get going with a proper exercise routine just now but I will get there!

treaclesoda · 22/04/2016 18:34

I weighed myself today and I have lost... zero. So disheartening.

indigo88 · 22/04/2016 18:45

day 5 of improved eating habits. It's ok. No hoovering up leftovers, snacking nor chocolate treat in the evening, that's a big ask for me particularly after hard day keeping shout children calm. Great to read your posts. I feel better also to be sensible about food.

QuimReaper · 22/04/2016 19:17

I feel horrid today Sad

Really weak and cold and tired. I was feeling weird at lunchtime and literally fell asleep because I couldn't be bothered to get up and get some lunch! That was about 1pm after 8hrs sleep last night! I'm wondering if it's the dreaded "carb flu", since I've only had carbs this week from vegetables? Might just be the low calories taking their toll.

BUT, it's the first day I feel like I can "see' a difference in the jelly belly so I'm feeling positive for my weigh-in tomorrow. I have had some goats cheese with my dinner to congratulate myself - first bit of dairy all week except cooking my mushrooms in butter a couple of days ago!

Tomorrow I'm having wine and pasta whatever the scales say. I've bloomin earned it, eating sackcloth and ashes all week.

AllThingsNautical · 22/04/2016 20:03

Sounds like carb flu, quim. I really can't be arsed with that, am busy at work and have super-demanding toddler. Apparently drinking plenty of water, adding salt to your food and eating plenty of fat staves off carb flu.

I am only on Day 1 and I feel headachey, incredibly forgetful, tired and really grumpy. Hoping I adjust quickly, because I really haven't got the patience for this!

QuimReaper · 22/04/2016 20:17

AllThings I was in an absolute RAGE on Tuesday morning, it passed pretty quickly! I recommend exercising it out if you have time, worked really well for me. I just went for a super-long walk.

QuimReaper · 22/04/2016 20:18

I do also seem to be even more forgetful and clumsy than usual though. Keep crashing into things and dropping things Confused

AllThingsNautical · 22/04/2016 20:31

Have just remembered the rage is why I vowed never to do 5:2. I'm so mean when I'm hungry!

I'm clumsy and forgetful at the best of times anyway, could really do without it being enhanced!
