Five weeks to lose one stone, anyone want to join me?

That's it really! Have had to start on tablets for high BP, I have underactive thyroid - taking Thyroxine and also have PCOS.
I am 40 in a few months.
I know it's harder for me to lose weight with the above conditions but surely it's not impossible. I've been doing SW for 6 months and lost 12 lb but have put 4 lb back on over Easter. Not possible to go to SW at the moment due to work/uni commitments and DH long working hours.
My plan is to lose one stone in five weeks initially.
Then another stone by my holiday in August.
Thinking of low carb, cutting out sugar and doing more exercise.

So, I weigh in today at....11 st 12.

Does any want to join me, or give any advice to help on low carb, sugar?

I know AllThings - I'm staying with my dad to keep him company while mum's away and got dreadfully impatient with him on Tuesday over some minor issue with the washing machine. Great company Sad

Seems to have more or less passed now though.

TakesTwoToTango · 23/04/2016 00:55

Hope you are feeling better after a nights sleep. quim. I've never heard of carb flu (which suggests I've never dieted hard enough I suspect!!).

TakesTwoToTango · 23/04/2016 00:56

treacle sorry to hear you had a frustrating weigh in. Try again tomorrow in case it wAss an off day?

treaclesoda · 23/04/2016 04:50

I don't have any scales, I worry I would be obsessed if I had any! I just happened to be using the bathroom at someone else's house and they were right in front of me as I was washing my hands so I stepped on them.

QuimReaper · 23/04/2016 09:06

TakesTwo I've only heard of it from the bootcamp threads because I've always intended to give low-carving a whirl but never got that far before my resolve cracked! It's specific to cutting out carbs, I think it's sugar withdrawal basically. I wouldn't have thought five days would be long enough to start suffering though...

QuimReaper · 23/04/2016 09:10

treacle I had exactly the same thing last week. Busted a gut and lost less than a single pound. I was chatting to a friend who's been slogging away at the 5:2 for months and lost hardly anything but her clothes are looser and she's been getting comments. I don't know how the heck she's managed to keep it up without motivation from the scales, but that's the real aim, isn't it? Scales are just peculiar.

TakesTwoToTango · 23/04/2016 09:24

Treacle different sets of scales can weigh a bit differently too so I totally wouldn't trust a random reading on a friend's set!

TakesTwoToTango · 23/04/2016 13:12

I've weighed in and in 10 days of being really good and exercising religiously I've lost.... [drum roll] .... 0.4lb! ShockAngryHmm

treaclesoda · 23/04/2016 13:33

Well, that's quite reassuring. I did think that my trousers were a little looser when I fastened them the other day so maybe all is not lost...

Notsoskinnyminny · 23/04/2016 13:40

I've put on 1lb but after a picky week following a strict week I'm amazed it's not more. I've not had any milk for 2 was and was amazed with how much better my legs are when I was trying something on in M&South earlier - the front of my thighs are still dimly but my bum cheeks are dimple free!

Quin I thought I'd replied to your scales question - I've got 2 sets that give different weights so I just use 1 set and leave them in the same place although I have been known to strip of in MILs and see what I am on hers because that's where I got weighed before I bought a set and I like the number on hers better - aren'the we mad!!

Coursework beckons - got a big fat F for my draft Sad

Notsoskinnyminny · 23/04/2016 13:41

DYAC - dimply and M&S

apologies for any others I've missed Grin

QuimReaper · 25/04/2016 10:24

Notso my Saturday weigh-in was a bit deflating, since depending on where I positioned the bastards I'd either gained almost one pound or lost four Angry Now I have no idea what I weigh! SURELY not everyone has this problem with scales?

The bastards are going straight back, anyway.

treaclesoda · 25/04/2016 12:52

I haven't lost weight but I measured myself and I've lost an inch from my bust and waist so that's at least some sort of result.

QuimReaper · 25/04/2016 15:02

Well done treacle!

I haven't actually measured myself but I bought a dress on eBay which is identical to another which I have, just different in colour. I put the dress on this morning and it is considerably looser than the one in the different colour, which I am interpreting as an inch loss.

Scientific... Grin

TakesTwoToTango · 25/04/2016 16:55

Well done treacle and quim! I have poorly dc at home from preschool so my exercise time has disappeared as had my ability to get to the supermarket to stock up on healthy options. Sadly, my willpower to resist the drive-thru on the way home from the Drs was also non-existent and I'm now stuck at home - prime boredom eating territory...

QuimReaper · 25/04/2016 16:57

Ach TakesTwo in my book, any illness equals bets are off, even if it isn't mine...!

Notsoskinnyminny · 25/04/2016 18:29

After a cream tea and prosecco yesterday my willpower upped and left and I'm 3lb heavier this morning than last Monday. It was bloody gorgeous but my first bit of dairy in 2 wks and my eczema's flared up - never made the connection before.

ClutterofStarlings · 26/04/2016 08:27

I was thinking I'd list a couple of pounds, but actually I think the scales aren't working very well.
It's been a busy weekend, but I'm going to get back to it tomorrow, no (morning) snacks, salad lunch, try to keep afternoon snack to a snack not a small meal, and reasonable evening meal. Plenty of water.
Grit my teeth & start doing some exercise other than just walking.
And resisting Brand telling about school puddings Wink

QuimReaper · 26/04/2016 17:09

I've just walked down to Boots and weighed myself and if my starting weight was right on my dodgy scales, I've lost less than 3lbs Sad

I'd really convinced myself it would be more after all my hard work last week!

PetersonPeterson · 26/04/2016 20:32

I have weirdly lost 4lb on evening weigh ins and less than one lb in the morning- I've checked daily for the last week. I was previously always 10st12lb in the evening and now 10st 8, but staying 10st 7lb in the morning. Walking 12,000 steps a day and eating 1,250 calories according to my fitness pal, so it should be flying off...! I'm sure if I keep it up it will shift. I wonder if it's because I've just stopped breastfeeding so my body is adjusting (hopeful for excuses).

whirlygirly · 26/04/2016 21:54

This weighing business is so odd. I went from 162 on sat to 166 on sun morning and now 163 this eve. I think it's because I had a salty Mexican meal on sat eve - can't believe that piled on 4 lbs overnight, must be a water retention thing!

It was a relief to see the numbers come back down today. Hoping for 161 by Friday and that will be my first half stone.

In other news, I've discovered a new thing. Slices of fresh orange in plain boiling water. Absolutely lovely, has filled me up between meals at work and my skin feels good too. I've had 4 mugs today! Can't stand herbal tea but this is a really nice alternative. Smile

QuimReaper · 26/04/2016 22:19

That's a fab tip whirly sounds lovely! I chug down tonic water with fresh lime in the evening. It really suppresses the appetite for some reason, I think a combination of the bubbles and the quinine. I'm trying to not eat after 6pm at the absolute latest so it's good to have something to keep the stomach occupied in the evenings.

I am trying to just be happy with the reduction in my spare tire and not focus on the scales.

A proper loss would have been such a morale boost though Sad

PlugUgly · 26/04/2016 22:39

Just to ask.... re your under active thyroid , have you had your dosage checked ? I have the same and it was SO hard to lose weight until they increased the thyroxine to the right amount? (Took a while too as it was changed over many months) , worth going back ? How long since your diagnosis?

QuimReaper · 28/04/2016 10:21

This thread's gone a bit quiet, how's everyone doing?

In spite of my disappointing weigh-in earlier this week I am really quite pleased with the reduction in my spare tyre - on an empty stomach (i.e. first thing in the morning) I can start to see myself emerging from the cocoon!

I have one HELL of a long weekend lined up though...

TakesTwoToTango · 28/04/2016 17:15

I have totally fallen off the wagon Sad
