MFP to lose weight

Emz449 · 30/05/2015 18:31

Hello! I'm starting this thread to make myself accountable and as motivation. I've been using MFP for 16 days now and have lost 6lbs, really enjoying it and finding it so easy to use. I'll be posting weigh ins as and when as I am a frequent weigher! Hopefully the loses will continue Grin I started in Janaury as 14 stone 11lbs Shock but I've become complacent

Starting weight - 14 stone 11lbs
Current weight - 12 stone 5lbs
Goal weight - Currently 10 stone 11lbs but I think that I will aim lower once I reach that

On 1,450 a day with an active lifestyle. Would be great to see other peoples loses and experiences with MFP, annoyed I didn't start it sooner!

No loss this week but to be fair I've been slack.

I think it's rare that people have significantly different metabolisms. I have found my Fitbit really eye opening in respect of two friends neither of whom i thought of as majorly active but both do close to 20k steps a day. I do 2k on an office say do hardly surprising they can eat/drink more than me

JontyDoggle37 · 07/06/2015 12:09

Joining in if I may - starting weight is 12st 8, aiming for 9st 12. I'm 4 weeks post giving birth. I started two weeks ago, lost 4.5lbs but then got TOTM and gave gone back to 12st 6.5, so determined this week will be much better! I'm also doing my body measurements on a weekly basis so I can see the improvements there too.

peacoat · 07/06/2015 13:24

Well I got myself to British Military Fitness this morning so feeling quite smug Grin.

I agree that people don't really have significantly different metabolisms. I just can't work out why others seem to have more self control than I do - I think it's related to that test that is done with kids about whether they can delay gratification. I was rubbish as a kid at that and I think it explains a lot about why I'm a fatty.

I realised yesterday that I have put on 3 stone since April 2011. Geez.

MixedMessages · 07/06/2015 14:52

peacoat self control is a whole different issue Grin I have very little but know people with buckets.

Also it's broader than self control - I know many people who have very little interest in food - it's a means to an end. For me its central to my enjoyment of life - 99% of my social life revolves around food and drink. Any occasion is, imo, only improved by food and wine and it's difficult to move away from that mindset.

Emz449 · 07/06/2015 15:35

Peacoat, how did you find BMF? Thinking of going to one myself when my back is feeling better.

I completely agree with you mixedmessages, food is massively involved in my social life and is a big part of me and my boyfriends evenings when I get back from work! He is actually having to go abroad for a number of months Sad and while obviously I am going to miss him an enormous amount (will be going to see him regularly) I do feel like my diet and routine will become more normal and healthier.

I see food as a treat and that's something I find hard to shift. I also eat when I'm bored. I just try and make it a healthy treat so I splash out on nice stuff like coconut water (see what I did there? Grin) rather than just eat less.

Emz I really like it. It's a bloody tough workout but today was my 5th session (only managing once per week at moment) and I can tell i'm getting a bit fitter. And the instructors are always very nice to me when they see I'm struggling and give me a slightly easier version etc. It's fun and sociable, and whilst I wouldn't say it's over before you know it, it's definitely doable. It's also nice to be out in the park, but I do take an antihistamine because otherwise I get itchy rolling around on the grass.

I have a dodgy lower back and it feels better after BMF, usually. Occasionally I seem to 'pull' whatever the problem is but it's generally helping mine.

I used to go in 2008 when I was a normal size and I found I got a lot fitter a lot more quickly then. Still, I'm determined to be fit again.

Emz449 · 07/06/2015 20:52

Ah that sounds pretty good actually I think I might have a look into my local courses. I did also see that a community centre was doing insanity classes which might be interesting!

Confession time Blush today and yesterday have been absolutely terrible food wise with my calories in the minus. The day starts off well but slowly gets worse and worse. I'm determined though to change that. So from tomorrow, at least 10,000 steps everyday and staying within my set calories, there are no social events coming up either to derail me. Will weigh myself tomorrow morning and take the probable gain and crack on

Can I join in - I've just done my first day of MFP. I'm over by 3 calories Hmm

I'm not aiming on losing much weight. My target is 7lbs by mid-August. I'm hoping this I'd do-able.

Emz449 · 07/06/2015 22:02

3 calories isn't too bad Harry and welcome Smile

OP posts:
MixedMessages · 08/06/2015 06:31

3 calories is insignificant Smile and 7lb easily doable by August.

Although I had huge bumps I didn't put on weight during my four pregnancies and was in my pre pregnancy clothes within a few days so this is the first time I've ever tried properly to lose weight. except for the magic 4lbs that was always going to change my life

Then I hit mid thirties and it feels like overnight I can't so much as look at a burger and I put on 2 stone in a year Blush

But buying clothes to replace the clothes that I bought because I was to fat for my original calls was a wake up - as was a totally hideous set of photos from a recent night out.

Good luck all!

Bathsheba3 · 08/06/2015 08:47

Week 1 - 3lbs lost.

The hardest thing for me is never loosing the initial 3 / 5 / 7 lbs. It's week 3 & 4, when the novelty has worn off, when it gets harder to loose the weight, and quite frankly I get bored and irritable at not being able to eat what everyone else seems to be eating (although I take the point they are not).

Emz449 · 08/06/2015 08:53

Well my gain is horrendous, I'm too embarrassed to write it on here, but I'm hoping that as I tend to do lower carb that is in mainly water weight and will quickly disappear. Got my food and menu plans sorted for the week and raring to go. Weighing in on a Monday is actually a bit quite good motivation for being good at the weekends. Will keep this in mind for next weekend

Please can I join? I started MFP last week and have lost nothing! I'm 5ft 5 and 12 stone and want to be 11 stone by the 7th of August.

Emz449 · 08/06/2015 10:56

Bathsheba meant to say congratulations, that's amazing

Welcome Ginmakesmecry

Decided to own up after stewing over things this morning and my gain was 6lbs. Thought over why I had two days of binging (other then past ED issues) and I think maybe it's because the scales didn't move at all last week and I just thought sod it and feeling sorry for myself. Completely self sabotaging of course! Must do better

OP posts:
Bathsheba3 · 08/06/2015 11:48

Thanks Emz - but not quite as amazing as the 5 lbs loss I could have recorded if I too hadn't resorted to binging all day yesterday. So I am actually really extremely disappointed with myself today.

I'm an emotional eater, and my emotions have been running very high for a while. I am finding this very tough. But sticking to the calories, and logging everything does work. Today is a fresh start. Just had yummy breakfast of spinach & asparagus omelette with 2 eggs. Fits in with my low carbs / low sugar thing too.

Don't be disheartened. If you stick rigid Emz, you'll loose most of your temporary blip again this week. You have done so well already. I'm 12.11 today (was 12.8 Friday!). Lets aim for the 11's together - by the end of June at the very latest ?

Emz449 · 08/06/2015 13:25

That sounds good Bathsheba definitely up for a bit of a challenge and I NEED to move into the next stone bracket just to get my mojo back and finally see some movement. I've changed my calories this week to 1200 to try and undo the weekend damage

OP posts:
Bathsheba3 · 08/06/2015 14:10

I will live to regret that post - but lets go for it! Smile

JontyDoggle37 · 08/06/2015 14:52

Bathsheba and Emz can I join you for the end of June challenge? I'm 12.6 at the moment and definitely need to be in 11's by end of June to stay on track.

Bathsheba3 · 08/06/2015 15:39

Yes of course Jonty! Lets ALL do our very best to get there. OMG - I haven't been in the 11's for 3 years. Determined now.

Emz449 · 08/06/2015 17:26

I'm very determined now too, we have just over three weeks to get there too so doable I think?

OP posts:
Emz449 · 08/06/2015 17:36

As long as my gain goes as quickly as it came on! Will report in the morning if it's going the right wayGrin

OP posts:
peacoat · 08/06/2015 20:09

Well after 3 good days and 4 bad days I have gained a pound last week.

I'd love to be in the 11s but I'm hoping to get below 90Kg Blush which would be almost a stone lost. I am terrified it's not ever going to happen.

Bathsheba3 · 08/06/2015 20:24

You CAN do it peacoat. You even joined BMF - and that is hardcore !!! Just log everything in MFP. If you absolutely stick to your calories (and make them good calories) it can work, as you well know. The problem is the bad days.

We are in it together, and we all know the pitfalls (hence why we are here!). So we can support each other.

I know it is highly unlikely I'll be able to maintain 1200 cals beyond June, but if it gives me the kick up the backside start I need to reprogram me my eating habits, then fab. I'm also upping the exercise (not up to BMF yet!), but not eating my extra calories. Positive vibes.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 08/06/2015 20:27

I'm a bit worried I'm eating more now than I was before I started MFP. How do you stop thinking 'oh, I've got a couple of hundred calories left, what can I eat to use them up?' Blush

I came in 75 calories under my allowance today (I need a few in hand, as I have a works do on Wednesday - 3 course meal with senior management).

peacoat · 08/06/2015 20:30

Thanks Bathsheba (great name btw). I am sitting here wanting a glass of wine very badly. But I can't. I have 245 calories left but they are my "walking to work" calories so probably shouldn't eat those. It's just difficult staying within my calories.

I have found 2 close colleagues who also want to join slimming world and we are all going to the cattle market to get weighed the week after next.
