MFP to lose weight

Emz449 · 30/05/2015 18:31

Hello! I'm starting this thread to make myself accountable and as motivation. I've been using MFP for 16 days now and have lost 6lbs, really enjoying it and finding it so easy to use. I'll be posting weigh ins as and when as I am a frequent weigher! Hopefully the loses will continue Grin I started in Janaury as 14 stone 11lbs Shock but I've become complacent

Starting weight - 14 stone 11lbs
Current weight - 12 stone 5lbs
Goal weight - Currently 10 stone 11lbs but I think that I will aim lower once I reach that

On 1,450 a day with an active lifestyle. Would be great to see other peoples loses and experiences with MFP, annoyed I didn't start it sooner!

Also, I had one of those Alpen breakfast bar things in stead of toast this morning and the family are on a big salad with smoked mackerel for tea.....their turn to eat "mum's diet food" as they put it!

Bathsheba3 · 04/06/2015 11:46

I am hungry. Day 4 and I am really hungry! I have stuck to my 1200 cals rigidly so far, and have actually seen a weight loss already (3 lbs).

I really cannot quite believe from managing my portions how "little" I need to eat to make up my calories. Just goes to show how greedy I am have been.

I really need to re-educate myself about portion control, as well as eating the good stuff. I even bought some cheese in the picnic-snack packets to make sure I know exactly what I am eating. 20g was a mere crumb.

Don't think I'm going to be able to sustain 1200 / day for long. But I will be motivated to continue of I am able to loose a good chunk of weight early on.

Eliza - I'm curious as to whether this control is a good one or bad one? I'm beginning to be a bit obsessive. Is that normal ?

It's more about control than obsession, I think. Sadly, the truth of the matter is, there needs to be a deficit of calories "in" versus calories "out". If you want to lose weight you have to control what you eat to ensure this deficit. It's hard and as I said up thread, the really demoralising bit is just gaining it all again. I'm a successful dieter from time to time. What I haven't yet mastered is the "this isn't a "for now till I lose 14lbs" eating plan but forever, if I want to remain slim". In that sense I too feel a certain sense of futility but, I'm faced every day with feeling crap and having nothing to wear (and what I do wear doesn't look great) so, it's simple:- Do I want to change/be fitter/be healthier/look better? .... Or not?

Eliza22 · 04/06/2015 12:44

What hacks me off a lot is the unfairness of it all.... We all know women who eat big portions, drink more than us and generally do what they want diet wise. They remain skinny. I come from a long line of pear shaped women who struggle....that's my (bloody awful) fate! Angry

And I agree, it's amazing how little one is expected to eat to be slim. I know, that when I've lost this weight for my hols, I most likely will gain because I can't eat 1200 calories forever. My husband is shocked at my portion size and says "one small wine is OK!" he's slim

Bathsheba3 · 04/06/2015 15:51

Thank you both for sharing. Yes, I will need to be in control going forward. It was the lack of control that got me into this pair of size 16 14's. I have done it before, and am sure I can do it again. It is just finding the mindset as you both say, to stick with it & see it through in a longer-term healthy way, rather than wanting the quick fix. Bloody hard work!

I managed to overcome my hunger by my tiny morsel 20g of cheese, and hold out for lunch. Yea!

DC's & DH having chicken kiev tonight. Rather than deny myself, I think I will adopt your approach Eliza and have some of the chicken, but just load other 1/2 plate up with veggies.

I love food. But I do want to change, be fitter, be healthier, and look better.

I would agree with you entirely except for two particular friends I've known all my life who can eat me, under the table as it were. I think there are exceptions to the general rule. I know. My sister is one!

Totality22 · 05/06/2015 19:51

Love MFP.

I use it to plan as opposed to log what I eat. After all once it's eaten you can't change it to something healthier!!!

Have cut out sugar and eating carb free for my dinner. Going to weigh in tomorrow. Current weight 11st 7lbs. Goal weight 9st.

I've already shed half a stone.

ChocolateBiscuitCake · 05/06/2015 20:54

Best post ever cactus. Thank you.

I have a dear friend who eats and drinks me under the table. I could never understand why I was fat and she was thin...until it dawned on me she:

A) exercises every day by running for an hour. She also runs after toddler twins all day
b) she rarely eats breakfast and lunch (twins!) so catches up on calorie consumption when I see her in the evening. Not ideal but it highlights the science of calories in v. Calories out!

ChocolateBiscuitCake · 05/06/2015 21:00

Totality - I'm 11st 8oz and aiming for 9st too!!!

I have cut out all processed food and am not eating pasta, rice, potatoes etc. I have heavily limited bread to one slice a day (4 children under 7, so it tends to be my quick fix breakfast or lunch...sliced in half to make super thin toast iyswim!).

Totality22 · 06/06/2015 08:20

Well I am a lb down from my last weigh-in BUT I am a whopping 5lbs down from Monday after my weekend of overindulgence.

My mistake is that on weigh-in day I tend to opt for a treat or 5 and then that turns into a weekend blow out.

So my next goal is to NOT DO THAT.

Low carbing isn't ideal for me as I soon feel very deprived but I have swapped to small wholemeal bread (63cals a slice) and I either have it for lunch or breakfast.

Evening meal is carb free or else I have a very portion controlled amount of carbs. New potatoes are my go to carbs. You get a decent portion for about 140cals and they are relatively low GI and I am aiming to follow a low GI healthy eating plans.... I have my beloved new spuds with curries and with chicken and salad and with chilli or bolognese.

Haven't planned dinner yet tonight, or tomorrow so I need to get my planning head on.

Well done Totality Smile

Well had the Mexican last night and it was amazing.... But so were the gin cocktails and tequila! I budgeted about 1000 calories but not the alcohol Confused

On the plus side it's showing that I also did about 10,000 steps so hopefully it all balances out. The scales were kind this morning but haven't actually had a loss so far this week which is slightly frustrating but hopefully by Monday there will be some movement. I am currently on medication for sciatica so which was prescribed this week so I'm wondering if maybe that is having an effect on me.

Difficult day food wise. Had a sandwich "out" for lunch with sparkling water as was miles away from home.

Out tonight for Thai. Plan on no starter and only plain rice and eating HALF my meal. No desert. This is harder at the weekend.

peacoat · 06/06/2015 20:19

Can I join?

I've been trying to stick to 1500 calories this week but I've failed every single day except for Monday.

I feel like I barely eat anything and I'm already up to 1500. I think I'm just so used to eating such big portions, and quite a lot of crap, that I'm so out of touch with what I should be eating.

I really do see food as a treat.

I need to lose 3 stone Blush

Thanks Cactus

See, to me at the moment, that doesn't seem like much food, which worries me. Today was quite a good day for me, and I had:

Breakfast:
Smoothy with spinach and blueberries, bit of coconut water and water
Two poached eggs with 60g smoked salmon

Lunch:

small portion chicken and mushroom risotto (leftover from yesterday)

Snack:

Another smoothy like this morning.

Dinner:

Leek soup (i.e. boiled leeks in some water)
Baked sea bass with salsa verde (only half the olive oil the recipe asked for) and I stuffed a red pepper with more of the risotto (so very small portion, not heaped) and baked it
About 2 tablespoons of yoghurt for dessert.

Thankfully I'm full now but that's a lot more than you ate Sad

Thanks Cactus. I was wondering about the risotto - I made it myself and usually put only about 2 tbs oil in it but last night I did a fair bit of frying up the chicken and mushrooms with butter. Saying that though, it has made 6 portions. I agree that rice is a little stodgy, and then there's the wine and the parmesan hmmm I should maybe look at better carbs. I'd like the idea of no starchy foods but it's too hard, so limiting them is best.

peacoat · 06/06/2015 22:37

And the sea bass is a weekend treat Grin As is the smoked salmon and eggs.

It's Mostly Meatless during the week.

cococandyfloss · 06/06/2015 22:40

I have no idea how to add anyone on MFP. I'll look into it.
