MFP to lose weight

Emz449 · 30/05/2015 18:31

Hello! I'm starting this thread to make myself accountable and as motivation. I've been using MFP for 16 days now and have lost 6lbs, really enjoying it and finding it so easy to use. I'll be posting weigh ins as and when as I am a frequent weigher! Hopefully the loses will continue Grin I started in Janaury as 14 stone 11lbs Shock but I've become complacent

Starting weight - 14 stone 11lbs
Current weight - 12 stone 5lbs
Goal weight - Currently 10 stone 11lbs but I think that I will aim lower once I reach that

On 1,450 a day with an active lifestyle. Would be great to see other peoples loses and experiences with MFP, annoyed I didn't start it sooner!

To add to my 1200 Smile

I did wonder this actually re the extra points, should I be eating them? I haven't so far as I do walk about 11500 as part of my walk to and from work and have done so before I started. I do use them on the odd occasion when I may be eating out etc

I don't eat the extra calories from exercise - I view it as an opportunity for extra weight loss and hopefully as a balance to some of the days where I go marginally over due to eating out.

emz I had lunch at a Mexican restaurant recently - had a delicious chicken tortilla soup which I think was reasonably low cal. Fajitas also reasonable if you can avoid the cheese, sour cream and guacamole I can't Grin

MixedMessages · 02/06/2015 05:10

Not sure my first para makes sense Confused. I find it helpful to look at calorie intake from a weekly perspective because I do eat out a lot. So any day I can save will help offset later unavoidable over indulgence.

OneOfTheThree · 02/06/2015 07:32

I don't tend to eat my exercise calories intentionally but they are a good cushion! A lot of what I've read suggests that they may not be completely accurate anyway and that MFP has a tendency to exaggerate them a bit.

I struggled last night with wanting to snack (having a 1250 week to make up for holiday last week!) and toyed with loads of options but eventually went for tomatoes (I love tomatoes!). Was watching Game of Thrones and I find I want to graze when watching TV!

Eliza22 · 02/06/2015 08:59

Oh. I'm pretty much using my exercise to "add in" food. 1200 calls a day is tough, for me. I still think, with the exercise, I can lose 2lb a week. On a day when it's impossible to fit in the exercise, I'll need to be really strict (and determined).

Anyway, I just keep repeating my mantra of 'you can be better/fitter than you are now, by the time you step on that plane in Rome'. The alternative is doing nothing and spending my holiday wishing I had and feeling selfconsious squeezed into my holiday clothes. No brainer, really.

OneOfTheThree · 02/06/2015 10:52

Eliza, definitely! No harm in eating exercise calories - I'd just been warned that they can be over estimated a bit on MFP.

1200 a day is really tough going. I did it for a few weeks and then had to up it to 1400 for my sanity!

Eliza22 · 02/06/2015 12:57

Grin I was nearly ready to eat my own foot last night

Emz449 · 02/06/2015 13:37

Yeah I'm going to go in with all the best intentions but I feel like a chicken burrito and sangria will be calling my name! The burger place will be a lot easier to manage I think as they have fairly healthy options and I can have salad on the side etc.

Perhaps you don't need to lose any more weight Cactus? It sounds like you're at a healthy weight, but i know that everybody has different weight goals. If you're exercising 6 days a week maybe try upping your calories slightly and see if that makes a difference? Are you doing weight training or cardio? I've see. A lot of before and after pictures of people who have weight trained and weigh more than their starting weight but their body looks completely different in that they are leaner etc. Have you taken measurements?

Yeah I can see how it is frustrating, I've stayed the same weight since February, purely my own doing with holidays and my birthday etc so it will be nice when the scale gets going! I know this is easier said then done, but perhaps just relax a little bit about your weight, you've done amazingly so far Smile maybe banish the scales for a while if possible and check on your progress in a month? Take your measurements too!

I do find the app so handy for checking the calories and it really does keep my in check and makes me more aware of what I'm eating!

May I join you ladies please? You've all done so well on mfp! I lost 9lbs with it a few years back but I need to lose much more so beginning again. Also starting c25k again!
My starting weight is 12st 8. My ultimate goal is 10st 10. Interim goal is to get down to 12. It's this time of night that I find challenging as I always feel peckish!! :/ Help!

Bathsheba3 · 03/06/2015 09:30

Emz - amazing weight loss so far!

Can I join in too please? I started my MFP on monday at 13 stone Shock. 1st goal is to be 11 stone something! I'm 5'7", & the wrong side of 40.

I'm in at 1200 cals daily at the moment. Trying to make calories go further by cutting out sugar (including fruit) and processed carbs. Plus aim aiming to exercise 3x a week.

Stickymum · 03/06/2015 11:02

I am in, I've used it before at lost over three stone, five years ago, I've put it all back on and some more. So need to get back to logging my exercise and my food.

Eliza22 · 03/06/2015 13:28

What worries me is that many of us are very successful at losing weight but not keeping it off. Is it all futile? I'm just aiming for a stone off and to be fitter. I don't think I'll ever get to the 2.5 stones off I'd like, or if I do, it'd not stay off.

Sorry, don't mean to be defeatist !

Emz449 · 03/06/2015 17:48

Ah thank you Flowers

Of course you can join! It will be nice to see all the different weight loses and how everyone's doing

I think in terms of keeping it off I personally am trying to see this as a lifestyle change rather then a short term diet. I could quite easily input my days menu everyday as I find the app so easy to use. I certainly don't want to go back to how I was a I feel 100% better and more confident so I'm hoping as I decrease in weight (fingers crossed) that I will feel amazing and won't look back. And to be honest I'm just so sick of going up and down in my weight. I'm 27 but weight loss has dominated my life for 17 years!

I was like that Cactus... But ds is 14 now!

Stickymum · 03/06/2015 22:16

Mine went back on due to the stress of adopting, travel for work (limited food choices and options to exercise), then since getting our AD, I've had a few illnesses. I finally got the all clear from the doctors at easter so happily starting exercise and food tracking again.

squareheadcut · 03/06/2015 22:19

What's mfp

Emz449 · 04/06/2015 09:00

It's on online calorie tracking site, you get allocated calories to lose weight for the day based on your height and current weight and you enter in your menu plans and any exercise that you may have completed. I love it!

Went out for the burger last night and it was amazing, well worth the 1000 calories that it came up to, I was pretty Shock when I saw the amount! I was fairly restrained though, just had the burger and no sides apart from a couple of onion rings from my oh. Yesterday was one of the days I had to use the calories I accumulated from the exercise. Tomorrow probably will be too so I'm trying to have a light day calorie wise, hoping my spiraliser will arrive today!

Weight wise not much has changed this week, weighed myself this morning and I've stayed the same which I'm grateful for as we didn't eat until half 9. Hopefully will see some movement by next Monday

Squareheadcut it's a really stress free way of working out how to reduce calories. You can factor in any exercise you do and it's made me realise how those "I between meals snacks" add up to a significant amount of calories. I'm actually enjoying taking control of what goes in my gob!

Last night I did my much beloved steak and kidney pie, chips and veg. I had half the portion I'd usually eat with no chips and loads of veg. So, I wasn't having to cook separately for me and then had to decide between a small glass of red wine or a yoghurt. Usually I'd have both and not think twice.

Good luck if you join us!
