Never got to the all u can eat. Went to pick up cousin and her son had had a bad turn so she was taking him to hospital. She's having a terrible time, all the family are.

Just had Toby carvery instead . Had a sugar free day though,

FreakinScaryCaaw · 23/04/2015 09:57

Your poor cousin.

gotredonyou · 23/04/2015 10:23

Did anybody watch the Plus Size Wars that was on Tuesday night?

SoonToBeMrsB · 23/04/2015 16:38

No, I didn't see it. What is it?

So, we've decided to cancel our big beach holiday in August/Sept. We're not huge beach lovers anyway but we really fancied this resort because it's in a very quiet location, it's adults only and the food/amenities/accommodation are meant to be lovely. We had read that the resort attracts the odd wasp or two, being situated within a national park, but dozens of reviews have gone up in the months since we booked and almost all of them complain about an infestation of wasps. Apparently the hotel takes no measures to deter them and they're everywhere - crawling all over the food, in and around the drinks machines, stinging people in the dining room and it's so bad that you can't eat outside or relax by the pool. People were claiming to have been stung multiple times over the course of their holiday and I'm totally phobic of wasps as it is so DP and I agreed that we'll just take the hit for the deposit and go elsewhere (at his suggestion, I'm not a spoiled dictator!)

"Elsewhere" is looking likely to be Rome, so I need to get my arse in gear and shift some weight because I was in Rome this time last year and I'm pretty sure I was the fattest person in Italy. The Romans are GORGEOUS and I'm short, fat, pale and covered in large tattoos so I stuck out like a sore thumb. I loved the city but I felt so uncomfortable in my own skin, my joints were sore from all the walking and I'd actually had to buy a load of cheap clothes in a bigger size just for the holiday because my summer wardrobe didn't fit BlushSad I walked about in blistering heat wearing leggings and long tops, and I refuse to feel so bad about myself when we go back.

It was a Cutting Edge programme about the rise of plus size bloggers/shops and whether it is encouraging obesity- was quite interesting!

OMG that would be my worst nightmare!! I do not blame you one bit for cancelling- hope you didn't lose too much money doing so though?

I'm 100% you were not the fattest person in Italy!!!! But it's not nice to feel uncomfortable on holiday. 3/4 months to go- I think realistically you could lose 2 stone?? What's your plan??

SoonToBeMrsB · 23/04/2015 17:05

We'll lose £100pp, which is less than ideal but it's a £1000pp holiday so I'm willing to take that hit. 2st would be great, I'd be much happier walking around in shorts if I was a couple of sizes smaller. I still haven't put any of my Exante weight back on so I'm going to persevere with intermittent fasting using my Exante products, probably alternate day fasting so somewhere between 5:2 and full blown meal replacement. Today is a bit of a write off food-wise as I woke up with DP's awful cold - I feel like I've been eating glass, I'm knackered and the room is spinning Sad

Soon have you been to Florence? I preferred it to Rome. Although I remember a guy on the market telling me I needed a large top. I was all of a size 10 in those days. Grin

I had to go into work today for a meeting and wore a top that was tight on me before Christmas. It was loose todaySmile

CookieMonster101 · 23/04/2015 20:05

Weighed myself at home this morning and had a definite loss off almost 3 lbs. In group tonight the scales said I stayed the same :( Feeling really demotivated now

helenahandbag · 23/04/2015 21:03

Quick note to say I've name changed from SoonToBeMrsB Smile

FreakinScaryCaaw · 24/04/2015 08:03

Cookie were you wearing the same clothes?

Dowser · 24/04/2015 09:51

Oh dear. I hope I can get used to that HH. Lol

Yes, FSC. He's in a bad place right now but we are supporting him as best we can. I'm leaving my melatonin tablets with him as it aids sleep , he's too anxious to sleep and is reported to shrink tumours . I take it as its supposed to help with Alzheimer's as well. Something that has afflicted two generations of my family.

So, we went to the all u can eat last night and I did really well. I ate all I could! Actually I had a piece of steak, piece of lamb , these were small pieces. 4 pieces of veg sushi, tomato soup...that tasted very sweet . 1 small onion Bhaji, a fair bit of salad, bit of cheese, and four desserts. That could quite easily have been 8 desserts but I could see see my stomach waving a white flag by this time and I stopped. Took a digestive enzyme and a glass of water witha drop of peppermint oil in and wasn't ill through the night.

No more sugar now till the next time. Actually only had bacon, egg and beans all day so not too disastrous. She said lol

This is worth a try Mrs B oops, I mean Helen. Get in touch with holiday company, show them the reports. Tell them youve had a bad experience with a wasp in the past and you can't put yourself in danger like that again, therefore you have no choice other than to cancel the holiday that you were really, really looking forward to and would like your deposit swinging onto your new choice of Rome. You daren't even take the risk that the wasps might have died out/ moved on by the time it's time for your holiday and you are grateful that you had read the reports and hopefully avoided a disaster.

See if that will do the trick. It might work. It's not your fault if the hotel doesn't take steps to manage their pest control. Outside the hotel is a different matter . But tell them forewarned is forearmed.

So, hoping you all have a good day.

helenahandbag · 24/04/2015 10:01

Ahh, that could be an idea! We honestly are cancelling through no fault of ours, I just can't go somewhere crawling with wasps - it would be hell on earth for me and DP couldn't relax with me running around shrieking. We read even more reviews yesterday and it seems to be every August/September going back for several years that the wasps swarm around the resort.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 24/04/2015 10:22

I second Dowser's idea, worth a try.

I went to the dance party and had two plates of buffet. But not much else to eat in the day. Danced a lot too and got told I'm looking skinny, as if! Grin

Off to Hartlepool now to see my best bud and go for a walk. It's a gorgeous day.

Dowser · 24/04/2015 18:24

Vision/ imagine a positive outcome and watch out if they fob you off on the first attempt.

That's when you rack it up a notch and say that you really are unhappy at the way they are treating a legitimate complaint and so forth

If they dont sort it out on the first attempt then google the directors of the company and approach them. I find it extremely effective.

Let us know how you get on.

CookieMonster101 · 25/04/2015 05:52

Fsw yes I was wearing the same stuff. Only explanation I have is that it was really hot at work and I drank loads during the afternoon. But should that really make this much of a difference?

Helen, I hope everything goes well for you. It's ridiculous the hotel isn't doing anything about them. I know a few wasps are normal in summer but not that many. Ew.

helenahandbag · 25/04/2015 09:26

If you weighed yourself in the morning and then class was in the evening then yes, that accounts for the 3lb difference. I'm always several pounds heavier in the evening due to food and water weight.

CookieMonster101 · 25/04/2015 11:57

Thanks Helen. I was three pounds lighter in the morning than the week before so might just go with that.

Dowser · 26/04/2015 10:20

I notsure if this is good news or not. It depends how you look at it but my lovely cousin the one who has just lost her husband to cancer and a week later finds her son has it too has booked to come to the wedding.

I'm over the moon ( although slightly scared that her son may be poorly at the time ). Hope and pray that won't be the case as she needs some respite herself.

She bought her dress yesterday . Got her photographs taken. We helped her book her holiday. Listen to this one. It was going to be over £800 each for her and other son at thomsons and I went on sunshine.co and got both of them for £918. Unfortunately they have to fly from an airport 2 hours away as couldn't get her from Wales until the day before the wedding which was no good. So we filled in the passport application and all being well should be good to go.

She's also coming to visit for a week. Again I managed to get the train fare down from £140 to £73.

Also read today that passengers under 12 should get a refund on air tax. So am hoping for four of those from the flights / holiday we have paid for for the wedding.

No wonder she's so slim she never sits down till tea time or bedtime!

I've had a good week health wise . Long may it last. We even went clubbing last night!

helenahandbag · 27/04/2015 09:37

Clubbing sounds like excellent fun Dowser! I'm glad your cousin is coming to the wedding and I've got everything crossed that her son makes a full recovery.

Today is a momentous occasion for me - I threw my scales in the bin. The big outside bin too, so I can't even go rummaging for them later Grin I am a total slave to the numbers and it really influences how I feel and even what I eat on a day to day basis. I do this knowing full well that the scales alone are a terrible measure of weight loss progress but I still hop on and off at least once a day.

Anyway, I'm resolving to stay off the scales until 1 June. 35 long days. I have several social events on throughout May thanks to a few birthdays (including mine - woohoo!) and I don't want to be panicking about what the scales will say.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 27/04/2015 09:51

Helena good for you! We are a slave to those numbers.

Hope clubbing was fun Dowser?

Gorgeous day here. I'm off work until Sunday barring any shift pick ups. Hope the weather lasts? Long walk later, pooch had a short one so far.

I'm not hungry yet as ate a fair bit yesterday. Af should arrive today and am a bit bloated and sluggish.

Have a good day everyone whatever you're up to Smile

gotredonyou · 27/04/2015 10:09

Well done Helena I gave up the scales for lent last year and lost 4lbs so hopefully it works for you!

I'm completely failing on the weight loss front as usual! Exercised three times last week and ate healthily mon-fri but then the weekend happened which included two meals out so i'm just maintaining!!

Its my birthday on Thurs so got a meal out at this amazing Brazilian restaurant. Then on Saturday we are doing a full day pub crawl so will be seriously hungover on Sunday.

Debating whether to start another vlcd in May as that's the only diet that has ever worked for me! hmm x

helenahandbag · 27/04/2015 10:43

gotred I'm hoping for 7lbs off in five weeks, that would take me safely back into the 13's with a couple of lbs to spare. I'm hoping to drop two dress sizes for Rome which will take serious commitment and a lot of exercise!

VLCD could be a good shout, it worked so well for you before xo

gotredonyou · 27/04/2015 12:18

That's a realistic goal!

I know it works but I'm just disappointed at myself for not being able to stick to a 'normal' diet. Maybe I should try something completely new- any suggestions?

helenahandbag · 27/04/2015 13:24

Well, I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I've looped right back around to Weight Watchers, which is always my go-to plan. It really does work for me and I love how flexible it is but I always end up finding something new and shiny, and so defect for a bit. This invariably leads to weight gain/maintenance and wasted time, then I end up back on WW. I'm just going to stick to my points for the next five weeks without peeking at the scales and we'll see where I end up.

gotred what are you finding hard to stick to? Are you trying to restrict something that you want and then rebelling or is it high calorie intake at the weekend that's undoing your good work through the week?

gotredonyou · 27/04/2015 13:56

hmmm I have so many excuses!

I know for a fact the best way to lose fat and build lean muscle is to eat low carb, high protein/good fats and do regular hiit/weight training. (body Coach style)

So I do this for a few days and either get bored of doing daily exercise or have cravings for sugary things so I switch to calorie counting because I convince myself that no matter what you eat, if you are in a calorie deficit you will lose weight. (weightwatchers style) I then end up going over the daily calories because I've opened the sugar floodgates/gone out for a meal and then feel really guilty so go back to eating low carb and this repeats over and over lol

Then I have this constant argument with myself that I am happy as I am and then the next week I feel enormous and bloated and then the next week fab (normally coinciding with low carb) Hence why I have maintained for the past 9 months or so!!!

I just want to find something that's easy to do/that I can stick to without too much effort :(
