Anyone 16st+ and low-carbing?

Hi, I started on 1st Jan at 18st 10lbs and I have so much to lose, it would be lovely to share my journey with others who have over 6 stones to lose.

I know it's going to be a really long slog and I'll need help staying on the straight and narrow. I have to do it this year, no excuses!

So far I have lost 8.4lbs in first 11 days, but that seems tiny when I've got nearly nine stones to lose altogether. My goal is 10st.

Anyone out there? All buddies welcome Grin

Okay, I feel better now! I nearly kicked the scales this morning but I suppose that's what I get for being so focused on them in the first place Grin

I've had 2.5L of water already today plus one coffee and a Diet Irn Bru so I'm going to keep plugging away and hope that I flush out any water weight. Spinning in the morning too... onwards and downwards...

Macloveswill · 03/07/2015 14:53

Ah spinning will help Helena.

Letme....just noticed House of Fraser have 60% off at the moment, might be worth a look on there.

Monsoon! Why didn't I think of that?! I used to shop there a fair bit when I was slimmer, I tend to like their stuff. Of course, I've just had a look and the things that caught my eye are out of stock in my size.

I'm not really sure what style suits me as I never wear dresses! Unfortunately, I will have to wear flat shoes (curse you metal ankle), so thinking maybe a maxi dress.

It's the property raceday (for people in the property industry to raise money for charity) www.ascot.co.uk/2015julymeet/property-raceday

Judging by the photo, everyone seems to be wearing hats, so I better look at those too!

ProfYaffle · 04/07/2015 08:45

Just weighed myself - 2lbs off this week. It's seems the 5:2 FF mashless mash up is working! (Hopefully it'll be even more effective next week without Coke Life)

GatoradeMeBitch · 04/07/2015 11:55

This hot weather is being very helpful with managing the appetite! I've had a basic version of caprese salad for lunch for the last three days, just mozzarella and tomato slices, so nice!

ProfYaffle · 06/07/2015 07:40

Sounds good! Can't wait til I start getting some tomatoes from the polytunnel to give it a go!

I've figured out how to make my scales show body fat %. I was horrified to discover this morning that I'm 33% fat (Lord knows how much it was before I lost weight) but when I looked in the instructions it says that for my age 20 - 30% is normal so I'm only 3% above normal. I'd still very much like it to come down though.

blessedenough · 09/07/2015 09:10

Morning all, firmly back on the wagon. My tummy has gone down again and whilst I doubt I have lost any weight I feel slimmer.
Also mortgages approved so that's a weight off of my mind!

How is everyone else getting on????

ProfYaffle · 12/07/2015 17:00

Hoorah on both counts Blessed!

I'm still koko, had my parents down to stay this weekend, no problem sticking to the LC at all. Today at lunch Dad offered me a chip, Mum went Shock "Nooooooo!" Grin They were both raving about how well I'm looking, healthier apparently. Which is nice.

LetMeBeLight · 13/07/2015 16:51

Hi Guys. It seems like everyone is doing well at the moment, which is great. I'm doing ok, but certainly room for improvement!

Dress shopping for Ascot went better than expected. I'd gone to try on a couple, half expecting them to be too small, or look rubbish on (my default expectation when trying on clothes!), but both fitted and looked pretty good, and I actually had to change one of the size 20s for a size 18. It was such a nice feeling, I ended up buying both!

I have a wedding in just under 3 weeks, so am setting a mini target of half a stone.

I want the sun to come back, like Gatorade, I find 'dieting' is so much easier when it's hot, I basically eat salads and barbequed meat and veg!

I'm not sure what my weight is at the moment as I need a new battery for my scales. Best get that sorted soon so I can make sure I meet my wedding target.

ProfYaffle · 14/07/2015 09:21

I'm being defeated by my scales too - I suspect they're more intelligent than I am! I'm struggling to understand the body fat % thing, by which I mean the actual display. I lost the instructions ages ago, have found some online but they seem to be slightly different to my actual scales. The display is full of ambiguous symbols that just confuse me!

I'm still doing the 5:2/FF thing though it's making the scales even more confusing. Yesterday I went from 11st 12lb in the morning to 11st 11lbs by lunchtime (I was fiddling with the body fat thing so weighed myself a lot) and this morning I'm 11st 9lb. As I fasted yesterday I'm sure that's why just not sure what to record my actual weight as!

GatoradeMeBitch · 14/07/2015 13:47

My healthy eating has collapsed completely. Two days on the trot I have made deliberate detours to go and buy junk food. And I am well aware that 3/4 days into low carbing and cutting out sugar and caffeine I will have more energy and the cravings will disappear, and the scales will start creeping back in the right direction, but I haven't found the motivation yet. I want to eat the packet of chocolate sweets on my desk that don't even taste nice! (And I'm debating getting a secret pizza delivery tomorrow lunchtime when I'll be alone. I'm really running off the tracks here!!)

Targets definitely help, especially when there are people involved in them, and especially when you know you'll be photographed! I have an unusually quiet diary for this summer which isn't helping things...

LetMeBeLight · 14/07/2015 16:26

I know that feeling all too well Gator. The debating with yourself can be ever so wearing. I'm currently in the midst of talking myself into / out of buying cake from the shops tonight, as it's TOTM and I feel all bloated and crampy (because I'm sure eating cake will make me feel less bloated??!!)

We WILL be strong!!!

GatoradeMeBitch · 14/07/2015 20:55

I've decided to climb back up on the wagon... next Tuesday! So I'm going to eat the things I'm craving, work my way through the things that shouldn't be in the cupboards, and work out a strict meal plan. I'll have company from next Tuesday so that will keep me on the straight and narrow for at least a month!

ProfYaffle · 15/07/2015 09:23

Oh god, yy to the exhausting mental 'shall I shan't I' dance. I've reached a stage now where I've realised it's easier to just refuse the cake/do the aerobics, it's actually far less stressful and uses far less mental energy.

LetMeBeLight · 15/07/2015 10:33

I wish I'd reached that stage Prof! I was thinking yesterday that the last time I lost weight (about 6 or 7 years ago), it felt much easier. I think a lot of that was because I straight down the line - no junk or sweet stuff at all, so none of this "Shall I, Shan't I" business.

Must get back to that!!

ProfYaffle · 15/07/2015 13:22

It's weird isn't it how sometimes the mentality just clicks in and other times your brain just doesn't co-operate. I have found it much easier on this woe than other stuff like SW etc I was trying before.

ProfYaffle · 20/07/2015 17:54

Anyone still around? Gator - did you get back on the Wagon?

I've STS for the past couple of weeks, I've decided to accept that status quo over summer as we've got loads of trips/weekends away/holiday over the next few weeks. Realistically I can't imagine being super strict. My plan is to maintain over summer by sticking to LC, exercise and trying not to have too much alcohol then back with a vengeance in September. At that point I may do dry September and 5:2/FF with a view to getting to target (one more stone off) by Xmas. That way I get a relaxed summer and hopefully slim by Christmas!

blessedenough · 21/07/2015 08:41

Hi prof I have come to a similar conclusion. House moving stress has made staying on wagon impossible I am annoyed with myself but can't do much at the mo as I don't have enough mental energy. I will be regrouping in September and will catch up with everyone then. I have hurt my knee and its my 5k sat, just going to do my best. Also getting my wisdom tooth removed end of next week, I am feeling very sorry for myself. Still want to be SBC however -even though it's not looking very likely I will settle for slimmer!!

GatoradeMeBitch · 21/07/2015 11:17

I am low carbing again now. I weighed myself and realized that though I'd been eating like a pig I'd only gained a few pounds back, so that's given me the motivation to get back on the wagon! I am considering something a bit more extreme, but I need to do more research on it.

LetMeBeLight · 21/07/2015 11:54

I'm still here, and doing ok at the moment. Had a week or so of good choices on food. Exercise has been passable, but not good - daily dog walks but nothing else as my ankle is bad at the moment.

Annoyingly, I'm a few pounds up from my lowest weight (lowest weight since starting posting here anyway). I just need to keep at it, especially since I know the more weight I can drop, the better my ankle will be.

Gator, that's really promising - that you can slip up for a few days and not do too much damage. The extreme plan sounds intriguing....

Blessed, I really feel for you. I'm still traumatised from my last move about 3 years ago! It's really not fun! I had all of my wisdom teeth out last year too. 3 of them popped out very easily and healed quickly, but one was a bit of a bugger and took quite a while to heal. But on the positive it made it a lot easier not to eat too much!

Prof, sounds like a sensible plan. To be honest, I think staying the same when you've lost as much as you have is an achievement in itself!

ProfYaffle · 21/07/2015 16:16

Only 4 posts away from being full! Someone needs to start a new thread ....

ProfYaffle · 14/09/2015 17:45

Cautious bump - anyone still around and getting back in the saddle for September?

BreakfastEpiphanies · 15/09/2015 11:01

Me! I have about 6st to lose. Lost 10.6lbs in the last four weeks :) Just trying to do the best I can before Christmas - I'm hoping to get two (maybe) 2st in total.

I'm not low-carbing though . . . just sticking to 1200cals & doing the C25K programme. I hope I can still join in!

ProfYaffle · 15/09/2015 12:27

Part 2 for those who are (hopefully) still interested
