2015 Mumsnet Weightloss Club anyone?

This is it I really need to get fit and slim down this year, my son is getting faster all the time and I feel like I'm letting him down being overweight as I can't keep up.

I've done slimming clubs (WW and SS) in the past and really like the support but I've always drifted off after a bad week or two and begun making excuses not to go. There's no way I'm giving up mumsnet and I find it easier to be brutally honest online so would anyone like to join me for support, tip sharing and the all important weekly weigh in?

I'm starting on Monday 5th as I find it easier to be distracted from food when I'm at work and will have finished the Xmas chocs by then and will be using MFP and my shiny new fitbit to track but anything goes on this thread it's all about the support!

Hopefully someone will come keep me company Xmas Grin

I appear to have lost 6lb which is bonkers. Guess a lot is water, plus I also don't trust my scales, so I may err on it being more like 5lb.

5th Jan - 14st. 0lb
12th Jan - 13st. 9lb

lk26 · 12/01/2015 09:01

Excellent losses ??I lost 3lb so am happy. Having a few treats today then back on it tomorrow.
Doing grit and the gym tonight so that should burn a few calories off.
Full of cold though and the pavlova my lovely friend bought round jerks shouting eat me eat me !!

ItsaTenfromDen · 12/01/2015 09:55

started at 12st 12lb and today 12st 3.5lb:)

ButterflyOfFreedom · 12/01/2015 10:30

5th Jan - 11st 7lbs
12th Jan - 11st 4lbs

3lb loss, whoop!

Am very happy with that! Smile

I have been really good food wise though I know I should be doing more exercise. I gave myself the goal of 30 mins every day and I haven't managed that.
I partly blame the awful weather though as I intend to do lots more walking but just find it harderwhen it's pouring with rain & blowing a gale outside!

More than happy with the weight loss though! Smile

postmanpatscat · 12/01/2015 18:44

1.9kg loss to report - just over 4lbs. 2kg to go to be back in my maintenance zone.

Marleyblaze · 12/01/2015 20:08

Well done to everyone who has lost this week. As I only started yesterday I will take today's weight as my starting weight of 11st 2.5, hope I can stick with it long enough to make a difference, usually only manage about 3 or 4 pounds loss before I get bored and give up. Really, really, really want to stick with it....would love to enter my 40's at a healthy weight. Think the key is to stay off the scales, usually end up weighing myself daily and despite only wanting to lose 1-2lbs a week, get frustrated and disillusioned if I am not losing every day, I know it makes no sense, but I think when I am near the scales my rational side disappears!

Just checking in. Have been totally off plan since Saturday morning as I was admitted to hospital with severe period pain and heavy blood loss. Spent 24 hours under observation then came home and have been in bed ever since. They gave me Tramadol to bring home with me and told me to eat before I take them but they have made me incredibly sick and the only thing that has stayed down has been dry white toast. I tried soup, apples, bananas, brown rice, chicken and whole meal pasta to name but a few things but it all came up again within an hour.

Feeling very sorry for myself right now but the bleeding is finally slowing down and the pain is easing so hopefully I'll be a fully functioning member of the human race again soon Sad.

Don't know what I'm expecting now from my weigh-in on Friday. The effect of a white bread diet versus that much vomit... Hmm

Anyway, moving on. It's nice to see this thread so active. Well done to all those of you who have lost weight so far Grin

postmanpatscat · 12/01/2015 22:37

Oh dear erm hope you're soon on the mend.

kiwikaterpillar · 13/01/2015 06:21

Hope you feel better soon erm.
I had tramadol a few years ago and felt similar to you in it, just do what works to get you through it.

Congrats to all on the losses this week. I had a client lunch meeting today, which I was dreading, but thank goodness they had a couple of healthy options and I had peppermint tea rather than a latte following so managed to stay on track.Smile

Anyone have any ideas for lunches to take to work? I'm getting a bit bored of salad with cottage cheese!

VashtaNerada · 13/01/2015 06:35

Hello, I'd like to join please! Lost a pound last week. Keen to lose slowly and steadily across 2015, and end up a stone lighter by the summer.

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 13/01/2015 12:21

Hi everyone I forgot to weigh myself yesterday Blush - is it too early for baby brain?!? Anyway delighted to report:

Week 0 - 17st10lb
Week 1 - 17st8.5lb - 1.5lbs off

Really pleased with that as I haven't been tracking given you're not really supposed to diet whilst pregnant. Have been focusing on picking healthy option and not eating rubbish. I found it relatively easy last pregnancy as I considered myself eating for someone else IYKWIM. I'm hoping it continues as I ended up 2st lighter once I'd had DS so that would be me on track for 3st by end of the year Grin

Hope you feel better soon erm

Hello. This morning I was finally brave enough to get on the scales to find I am 11st 7lb. This is 1.5 to 2 stone heavier than I was a few years back. I turned 40 in December, have 2 active boys (the youngest is 2) and I really need to get back in shape. I know I can't do this alone so I have just signed up to mumsnet (literally 10 mins ago) and my first post is to you guys asking if I can join your lovely, positive support thread? Please!Smile

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 13/01/2015 13:32

Welcome thistoo good to have you on board Smile

Thank you! I've never joined a group/used a website like this before so am a total newbie and am surprised by how exciting getting a quick reply to my post was Blush Feel very positive now and like I must not let you down in my efforts to shift a "few" pounds.

ThisToo · 13/01/2015 13:44

Seems as though everyone has made a good start. And congratulations HaveTea on your exciting baby news Smile

bakingtins · 14/01/2015 15:59

Hi thistoo I turned 40 at the end of last year too. I have 2 active (!) boys and a baby girl. I did quite well losing weight at the end of last year then lost motivation a bit so just having another shot at reaching 'happy' weight. I'm wearing a Fitbitedometer and using MFP to log calories. What's your plan of action?

ethelb · 14/01/2015 16:24

I'm checking in. I lost 3lb of christmas weight last Saturday and hope to have lost again at weigh in this Friday. I lost 5lb in total since the beginning of December, in preparation for wedding in April.

Marleyblaze · 14/01/2015 17:19

Hi, this too and baking, looks like a lot of us are turning 40, I have until the end of February and would love to be at a healthy weight by then, don't think I will make it but so long as I am heading in the right direction will be pleased. My kids are somewhat older and come with different stresses! On day 4 today, not stepped on the scale since I first weighed in, this is a major victory! And keeping on plan, long may it last

bakingtins · 14/01/2015 19:14

Fitbit pedometer

ThisToo · 14/01/2015 19:57

Hi baking and marley nice to have some MNs in a similar boat! I had visions of being my happy weight again BEFORE I hit the big 4-0 but it didn't happen as I found a string of excuses. So my aim this year is to make some positive life style choices which will result in increased energy and a reduction in dress size. I haven't really figured out how I plan on achieving that tbh but was hoping to find inspiration and support on this thread Wink One thing I know I have to address is my self-sabotaging behaviour. Prime example; today I have demolished an entire malt loaf single handed Blush

ThisToo · 14/01/2015 20:05

I am keen to try MFP as I've successfully lost weight previously with calorie counting but I haven't heard of fitbit before. I had a basic pedometer years ago but also had two border collies at the time so making 10000 steps (and keeping the weight off) was easy! Can you tell me more about fitbit please?

ThisToo · 14/01/2015 20:09

Oh and I have a new juicer which I would like to incorporate some how but no actual clue about how I might go about that. Any wise words on that subject would be gratefully received.

Marleyblaze · 14/01/2015 20:54

I have a Fitbit one, it is brilliant, can sync it with mfp and I am syncing it now with ww. Love getting recognition for my effort, and if I haven't hit 10000 steps will go for a walk in the evening which I wouldn't before. Find it really hard to fit the steps though, can be out all day at work, come home and have only done 3500 despite being on my feet all day and feeling knackered! Fitbit has a great website and gives you smilie faces and badges for your achievements, I have apparently walked the length of Italy! I will do lots for a bit of praise and a sticker or a badge! Re the juicer, read anything by Jason vale, his recipes are great. Not sure how it works with ww, very reluctant to use points on something so healthy, but don't want to cheat on week one!

ThisToo · 14/01/2015 22:33

Just checked out the fitbit website and it does look really good. My 2 year old still isn't sleeping through the night (his older brother was 4 before he did) so not sure I could handle seeing the true stats on my extremely poor sleep! Have also Googled Jason Vale and discovered my new juicer is in fact one he recommends. I then realised the free recipe book it came with is one of his. Thanks for the pointers marley, I will follow both up properly when I have more time tomorrow.

bakingtins · 14/01/2015 23:02

I have a Fitbit One but I don't use the sleep function on it (7m old BF baby = too upsetting!)
I do synch it with MFP and I like 'earning' extra calories for my steps, though I try not to 'spend' them. This month is the first time I've used MFP consistently, but finding it easy now I've realised it remembers your preferred foods boring cow has the same thing for breakfast every day and you can input recipes. Just knowing you'll have to write it down/enter it on MFP is enough to make me think about food choices, and it's brought it home how much some things can add up. I had a single slice of bread with my soup at lunchtime, not half a loaf.
