2015 Mumsnet Weightloss Club anyone?

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 01/01/2015 09:03

This is it I really need to get fit and slim down this year, my son is getting faster all the time and I feel like I'm letting him down being overweight as I can't keep up.

I've done slimming clubs (WW and SS) in the past and really like the support but I've always drifted off after a bad week or two and begun making excuses not to go. There's no way I'm giving up mumsnet and I find it easier to be brutally honest online so would anyone like to join me for support, tip sharing and the all important weekly weigh in?

I'm starting on Monday 5th as I find it easier to be distracted from food when I'm at work and will have finished the Xmas chocs by then and will be using MFP and my shiny new fitbit to track but anything goes on this thread it's all about the support!

Hopefully someone will come keep me company Xmas Grin

I lost 5 stone in 2013..... By cutting the sugar. Which is in turn, carbs.

This works amazingly well for me. Sugar is hidden everywhere. I aim to lose 23 pounds in January

I know I can do that as it will be lots of fluid in first few weeks. And I exercise lots and have a physical job

I also like to juice and can lose a pound a day by doing this (and I feel amazing)

Exercise everyone? Any plans?

26Point2Miles · 01/01/2015 12:47

Lao recommend MFP

And shred/davina... Just bought her new dvd

DesertIslandPenguin · 01/01/2015 12:58

I'm going to do some walking to start off with. My back is in bits just now, so zumba or weight lifting is out for the moment until it calms down and I lose a bit of weight. I've charged up my fitbit so I'm hoping to get all competitive about steps with my friends Smile

Dowser · 01/01/2015 13:55

Landed with a bump!

I want to lose 7-10 lbs.

I have a pretty good diet already so it's not going to be easy for me.

I don't have gluten or many carbs.

I already have a green juice for lunch.

Going to have to cut out all the chocolate. That's the really hard bit.

Dowser · 01/01/2015 14:30

Just checked on my fitness pal didn't think 12 oz juice would be so calorific. 234 I'm going with.

Only doing 1200 calories a day.

Think I'm going to be hungry without that sugar bump.

Still, want to get rid of my tummy bump.

Hate dieting, love eating!

26Point2Miles · 01/01/2015 14:30

Ah yes, chocolate! That's the one

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 01/01/2015 14:34

Dowser have you tried porridge for breakfast? I make it with water and a tiny slosh of skimmed milk. Keeps me full till lunchtime and frees up a little calories for a sweet treat.

I've known for a while I've been piling on the weight but had a rude awakening this morning when I weighed myself. I'm 10st 10 and 5 foot 5. That is my largest ever! I'm going to do the 2 day diet and the 30day shred. I have a wedding to go to in April and need to look better by then. Ultimate aim is to be 9st this time next year so I need to loose then maintain as I normally loose then pile it back on!

EnglishGirlApproximately · 01/01/2015 14:40

Can i join please? Also starting on Monday. I'm 40, 5'4 and on last weigh in was 13 1/2 stone. I lost 2 stone doing sw in September and October (just following plan not going to groups) and going to gym. Injured my ankle in November then xmas kicked in so put 1/2 stone back on.
From Monday back on sw and back to gym, actually really looking forward to getting started. Would like to shift 3 stone but happy to do it gradually.

tibni · 01/01/2015 15:56

Can I join too please? I went full time at work a couple of years back and the weight has piled on. I used to go to the gym a lot and that stopped with increased working.
My youngest is disabled and that does impact on my free time but I have to make some changes.
I'm veggie too with a cheese habit!
Need keeping accountable, and to make lasting changes.

Confitdecanard · 01/01/2015 16:22

Hello, me too! I'm 34 with two DS and weigh an embarrassing 14 stone - I'm short too. I'm starting mfp today (username the same as on here if you want to add me for some support over there). I am doing the Great North Swim in June so need to get in shape for that.

ItsaTenfromDen · 01/01/2015 16:55

Count me in please. I'm 51, 5'2" and somewhere around the 12st12lb mark, yet to brave the scales this year:)

I've done weightwatchers on and off over the years and plan to start back at meeting when they resume next week. I have started myself today.

I am a complete comfort eater and need to get some other coping measures rather than stuffing my face.

GirlsonFilm · 01/01/2015 17:06

Me too, I'm 44, 5'6"and approx 16st (I'll get weighed tomorrow as my scales need new batteries). I'd like to be 11st by the end of 2015.

I'm doing Dry January and low carbing in January to see if I can lose weight quickly. ...I need to see a loss or I just think sod it an have a chocolate bar or three

areyoureallysure · 01/01/2015 17:36

I'm like that girls. I need result fast for motivation!

ErmICantThinkOfAName · 01/01/2015 17:56

I'm in! I'm 31, 5ft 7 and currently weighing in at 12st 5.5lbs. Most of that is my tummy - I measured my waist this morning and it was 39 inches if I pulled the tape measure really tight! Blush

My heaviest at the age of 21 was 14 stones (42 inch waist!) I went down to 10.5 when I left my ex at the age of 23 and always thought that I would like to be 10 but never really had the motivation to get there. The weight has crept on over the last 6 years since I met my husband and at the end of 2012 I was at 13st 4. I joined Slimming World in Jan 2013 and lost half a stone but then I lost motivation and gave up. I went back to sort of following the principals of slimming world in Summer 2014 and got down to 11st 12. That has however crept up again over December! I am now determined to reach that 10 stones goal that I first set myself all those years ago.

I want to lose weight because:

  1. I don't want to be diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes at the age of 34 like my mother was. This is my main motivation to lose the tummy as I know a high waist measurement increases the risk.
  1. My size 14 clothes are tight and I have recently found myself buying size 16. I am absolutely determined to never buy size 18's again like I was at the age of 21.
  1. My knees hurt by the end of the day.
  1. Even at my slimmest I have always had a tummy. Now when I look at photos I look big all over - not just like an average size woman with an untoned tummy - I HATE looking like this.
  1. I have never worn a bikini. I would love to do this one day.
  1. I am due to have a hysterectomy later this year. I want to be in the best possible place to aid my recovery.
  1. I feel desperately unfit. I had to walk up the hill to the doctors surgery just before Christmas and had to stop for five minutes in the car park before going in so that I wouldn't be embarrassingly out of breath when talking to the receptionist. It is not a big hill.
  1. I am fed up of my doctor asking me to "just jump on the scale so we can check your weight," every time I am there and then lecturing me about it. If I was slim then I don't think she'd feel the need to weigh me so often.
  1. My blood pressure is now at the high end of normal - I want this back down. My pulse also runs fast and I get palpitations and frequent ectopic beats although I have had many tests on my heart and everything is normal. I am hoping that losing weight and improving my fitness will help this.
  1. I REFUSE to be fat by the age of 35!!

I can't afford Slimming World at the moment but am going to go back to properly following the diet at home. I am going to try to avoid processed food as much as possible and try to break my butter and Pepsi Max habits. I am going to drink a lot more water.

I am also going to start regularly going to the gym that I have paid to be a member of since September. I am going to go 3 times as week as they recommend to complete the cardio / weights circuit and try to go a couple of days in between to do an hour on the cardio machines in an attempt to burn through some of this disgusting fat that is layered onto my body. The gym is directly opposite my office. I am also going to buy an entry-level heart rate monitor to use when I am there so I can make sure that I am pushing myself and not just "cruising." A consultant at the hospital has given me a target heart rate to aim to achieve to burn fat and I need to ensure I am achieving it to make my time at the gym effective. There is no excuse!

I am also going to walk up the hill home instead of paying for a taxi - additional benefit being that I will save some money too!

Sorry for the epic first post Grin - what day are we weighing in?

kiwikaterpillar · 01/01/2015 18:22

I'm in....
A bit about me, I'm 33, have DD who is 1 and DH who can eat what he likes and not put on weight. DH is a SAHD and I've found the kg pile on as he has been doing 80% of the cooking recently as I've been doing crazy hours and when I get home I want to spend the time with DD before she goes to bed.
75.6kg, ouch. Have been in denial. Want to ideally get to 59kg but baby steps so first target is 65kg. I'm going to start doing more of the cooking, try and cut back time at work so I'm not so stressed and to make an effort to do some exercise every day. Doing MFP and also just got a jawbone but looking to start C25K.

SalaciousCrumb · 01/01/2015 18:49

I lost almost 2 stone with mumsnet a few years ago, a few of us were doing different weight loss plans - it worked really well so I'm pleased to see this thread Smile the trouble is , it's gone back on. 3 stone to lose now. Lost 8.5 lb before Christmas.
ermIcantthinkofaname I joined weightwatchers. And weigh in on Wednesday evenings. We could weigh on different days...will have to think about how we can work this.

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 01/01/2015 18:50

Glad to see so many of us in the same boat- hopefully there will always be someone around to keep us on the wagon.

Erm you can pick your weigh-in day to suit but I'm going for Mondays, I found in the past it keeps me focused at the weekend!

ANewMe2015 · 01/01/2015 19:05

I'm scared silly that you read how some hideously high number of new years resolutions come to nothing by feb....

bakingtins · 01/01/2015 19:05

I'm in. I did pretty well on a couple of different threads last year after birth of DD, I wanted to be in decent shape for my 40th birthday. I lost motivation once I got back to a top end healthy BMI and felt more like myself again, and Christmas has increased the damage. I need to lose 13lb to get to my happy weight, and mid-range BMI. I'm breastfeeding so can't/ don't want to do anything drastic, I'd be happy with 1lb a week off.
I have a Fitbit and once school runs start again I should be doing 15000 steps. DH and I have agreed to do dry January which should help, probably more to do with the associated snacking than with the calories from wine. I find evenings difficult, we eat early with the children then it's a long time before bedtime when chocolate or crisps are calling to me.
I have flirted with MFP before but find it a bit of a faff since I'm trying to avoid processed food. Working out calories in a recipe is a PITA. Has anyone any tips to make it easier?

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 01/01/2015 19:06

Me too salaciouscrumb was focused and lost almost 2 stone in 4 months to June, got married and have been eating like I was on honeymoon ever since - so all and more back on Blush

OP posts:
Sirzy · 01/01/2015 19:08

Don't think of it as a New Years resolution, just think of it as the start of the new healthier you! Set yourself small achievable goals
