2015 Mumsnet Weightloss Club anyone?

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 01/01/2015 09:03

This is it I really need to get fit and slim down this year, my son is getting faster all the time and I feel like I'm letting him down being overweight as I can't keep up.

I've done slimming clubs (WW and SS) in the past and really like the support but I've always drifted off after a bad week or two and begun making excuses not to go. There's no way I'm giving up mumsnet and I find it easier to be brutally honest online so would anyone like to join me for support, tip sharing and the all important weekly weigh in?

I'm starting on Monday 5th as I find it easier to be distracted from food when I'm at work and will have finished the Xmas chocs by then and will be using MFP and my shiny new fitbit to track but anything goes on this thread it's all about the support!

Hopefully someone will come keep me company Xmas Grin

I'll kick off with an intro, I'm 35 with one DS (2). Ultimately I'd like to lose about 5 stone (tbc on Monday when I see the damage christmas has done Xmas Grin) but would be happy if this time next year I make it to 3st. First target is the classic 10% of body weight - ideally before my holiday in March.

Thanks for starting this thread! An intro from me: I'm 32, one DD (almost 3), and as of half an hour ago I'm 19 stone 11lb. I'm starting today, and frankly stuffed myself yesterday to get rid of the last Xmas food. Not the best idea I admit, but it's gone now.

I want to lose weight because:
(A) I want to be healthy and around for a nice long time
(B) I want to shop somewhere other than Evans/Simply Be/Asos Curve
(C) My back hurts
(D) I don't want to be scared of plane seatbelts/fairground rides and not fitting
(E) We are TTC our second child, and I've already have two miscarriages in the last year. There's no evidence that it's weight-related but I want to take that factor out of the equation.

Ultimately want to get to 11-12 stone, but my first goal is under 19!

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 01/01/2015 10:19

Yikes you've inspired me to weigh in today too and I'm 17st 10lbs this means I've put on exactly 2 st since I got married in June Sad

Cannot do a lb more - tracking starts now!

I am determined to make 2015 the year I get to a healthy weight. I have also done slimming clubs but I'm the same, if I slip up I find lots of excuses not to go then stop going altogether. Will be starting on Monday. Can't weigh in yet as I need to buy new scales first!

About me: I'm 31, have 1 DD(1) and a lovely supportive DH. I saw a video of myself on Christmas Day opening presents with DD and I couldn't believe I'd let myself get do large.

LazyRohazy · 01/01/2015 11:00

I've definitely seen a few pics from the festive season that have pulled me up short. But next Xmas it will be different!

elenasalvatore · 01/01/2015 11:06

Can I join? I am 38 with a ds6 and ds4. Would love to lose two stone but have been battling with the same four pounds since my younger son was born. This year has to be different!

dinofly · 01/01/2015 11:09

Me too me too me toooo!

I'm up for making some changes! I'm 12 st 4 but a short arse so look pretty unhealthy. I put on loads of weight when preggers but that was years ago so no excuse now! I'm joining slimming world on Tues... Anyone following any specific dieting plans?

EachPeachPearPlum83 · 01/01/2015 11:14

No specific diet plans for me, just being more aware of what I eat and trying to exercise. I have downloaded a couch a 5k app but am embarrassed about what I'd look like attempting to run!

HowsTheSerenity · 01/01/2015 11:15

I'll join in.

I'm 34 (for another 16 days) and weigh 15 st.
I lost a huge amount 6 st but put on 2 st with IVF and shiftwork.
No DC's to blame for weight gain.
I need to start exercising again. I just stopped due to work.
I want to get down to 12 st.

By the way you should all be impressed that I converted my kg's to stones.ni have no idea what a stone actually is Grin

26Point2Miles · 01/01/2015 11:20

I've just weighed on my new fat monitor scales. Not great. Body fat is normal, visceral fat is high and bmi is 'overweight' I want to be 12 stone.

I'm 46 5ft 11,5dc,weigh 14st 9. Have put on a stone!! Lost 5 stone with biwi low carb threads

My running is slow, my fitness has dropped

I have a half and full marathon to run in a few months!!

I'm back on it as of now!

whojamaflip · 01/01/2015 11:23

Signing in too

I'm 40, 4 dc aged 11 to 5 and have finally realised that my youngest is now too old to still be blaming baby weight Blush

Weighed yesterday and am 12st 10 so need to lose 3 stone Shock

Am starting c25k on Tuesday when dc back to school - plan is to aim for 10k in March.

Diet wise am going to use mfp and be sensible - find if I "diet" I tend to crave what I'm not allowed and then binge...

LazyRohazy · 01/01/2015 11:28

Welcome everyone!

I'm going to follow WeightWatchers. I've done it before and it worked, it was my willpower that failed. That's where this thread comes in!

Valsoldknickers · 01/01/2015 11:32

dinofly I could be your sister in weight loss. I am a similar weight and am short as well. I would really love to lose 2-2.5 stones. I didn't lose weight after my last baby who is now crawling so for my self esteem and health I need to shift the flab (pronto)! I will keep a special eye out for your posts if you don't mind (not in a stalkerish way tho' Xmas Grin)

I will have a big blow out over the next few days and enjoy copious amounts of WineCakeBiscuit!

breward · 01/01/2015 11:32

I grew up in an over weight family and was 14 and a half stone as a teenager. I lost the weight 5st in 6 months at age 18 after a falling out with the family. I literally just stopped eating... Not the best thing to do.

My parents were both over weight. Dad developed type 2 diabetes in his mid 30s. He did not change his diet and as a result has suffered the consequences. Thanks to the NHS he is still with us age 69. In his 50s he had a quadruple heart by pass. In his 60s he has had a leg amputated, kidney failure, heart failure and is totally blind. He now weighs less than 9stone and spends about 4 months in and out of hospital each year. Mum still weighs 18 plus stone and has had no health problems apart from a bad back. She has been lucky. Everyone bangs on about the consequences of smoking but the devastation of obesity has been huge on dad's life. At least I will be forever young in his eyes as he can no longer see me or any of his grand children.

Hearing your stories about being over weight in your 30s makes me want to cheer you all the way. The difference you make to your life in 2015 will have a long lasting effect not only to you but to your children. Good luck and stick with it.

EachPeachPearPlum83 · 01/01/2015 11:36

I have just looked at mfp, looks great! Going to use this to track my calories.

dinofly · 01/01/2015 11:46

val, I would love a weight loss sister! I'm trying to lose about 3 stone, being about 9 stone would make be a size 10-12, so that is what I'm aiming for. I'm about a 16 now. I'm especially paranoid this year, I'm bridesmaid twice and don't want to dread looking at the pictures! I hope you enjoy your blowout, I had mine last night Cake Grin

UnderThePink · 01/01/2015 11:49

Ohh can I join please! I'm 5'11" and 17stone 10.. Have put on three stone in last 4 years and feeling so sad about it.

Anyway I want to start by getting down to 15stone. My partner and I want to ttc in 2016 so want to be in better shape for that :)

I'm going down the low-calorie route. Good luck everyone!!

areyoureallysure · 01/01/2015 11:53

I'm in!

Age 36. For dc - 17-3. 5'6". Weighed this morning and I'm 215.4 lbs. I've lost ten lbs since the summer well it was 16lbs but Christmas got in the way but would love to get into my bmi healthy weight range.

ANewMe2015 · 01/01/2015 11:54

I'd like to join in too! I'm 16 stone 5 and need to lose about 6 stone! I have a binge eating disorder so can't do any strict diet but need to really change my eating habits. Going to really try and exercise too.

This year has to be different.

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 01/01/2015 12:05

Hoorah welcome everyone - we can do it of we stick together!

I'll be calorie counting using MFP, I know from experience that I cope best with end-loading my calories, so I'll be roughly doing 200ish cal breakfast and lunch with 5-600 for dinner and 2 x 100 cal snacks if I need them. I always get the munchies in the evening so having a 'proper' big dinner means I don't feel I'm dieting.

OP posts:
HaveTeaWillSurvive · 01/01/2015 12:07

I have also resolved to spend a bit on smartening myself up,, I've been saying for ages that I'll buy clothes when I loose weight but looking like a mess in the mirror is not going to help my self esteem / resolve.

OP posts:
MsRainbow · 01/01/2015 12:08

Hello,
I'm 40, 5'3" with 2 DCs and weighed in this morning at 14 stone 12, my heaviest ever.
I've pigged out over Christmas and all the eating and drinking have made me feel awful.
It would be great if by the end of the year I didn't flinch (or find a reson to leave the room) whenever someone brought out a camera!
I'm going to low carb as once I start on carbs (pasta, potatoes anything with sugar.) I can't stop.
I'm starting today, I'm also going to start walking more next week. DH is a runner and has said I can run with him, but I wouldn't make it to the end of the road, and I don't think my knees would cope. However I am determined to get more active each month.
Good luck!

dinofly · 01/01/2015 12:15

havetea, I said then very same about myself. I dress like a fat girl and I think that makes me lose motivation rather than gain it! I'm going to throw all my leggings away and embrace patterns and colour!

DesertIslandPenguin · 01/01/2015 12:28

I got on the scales this morning as I just had to know. I'm 20st 4. Well, that explains why my back's been hurting so much. In context, I'm 37 and 51 4" tall. I am a very portly penguin.

I doubt that I'll be able to resist the last of the Christmas food that's lurking around the house, so I'll start properly on Tuesday when DS is back at school. I am trying to up my water consumption though. Two glasses so far this morning! Also planning to do a bit of batch-cooking so that I can fill the freezer with easy dinners, so I have zero excuse for a takeaway!!

(DH and I are dieting together so that will make things a bit easier. It's lowER carb, so at least I can keep the cheese without any guilt!)

KwaziisEyepatch · 01/01/2015 12:29

Hi all, I only have about a stone and a half to lose but it just won't shift! I'm going to up the exercise and start mfp again. I'm also doing a dry January, as post-dinner glasses of wine are all too common round here.

Just to encourage all those who don't think you can run, this time last year I started jogging, encouraged by DH who goes a lot, and couldn't reach the end of the road. The first time I went I did 5 minutes with two stops and had to actually lie down when I got home. I built it up very gradually, took it slow but went a tiny bit further each week and in May I was completely chuffed to be able to run the whole of a 10k in just over an hour. So it can be done! Now all I need to do is get back into it....
