2015 Mumsnet Weightloss Club anyone?

This is it I really need to get fit and slim down this year, my son is getting faster all the time and I feel like I'm letting him down being overweight as I can't keep up.

I've done slimming clubs (WW and SS) in the past and really like the support but I've always drifted off after a bad week or two and begun making excuses not to go. There's no way I'm giving up mumsnet and I find it easier to be brutally honest online so would anyone like to join me for support, tip sharing and the all important weekly weigh in?

I'm starting on Monday 5th as I find it easier to be distracted from food when I'm at work and will have finished the Xmas chocs by then and will be using MFP and my shiny new fitbit to track but anything goes on this thread it's all about the support!

Hopefully someone will come keep me company Xmas Grin

I've requested to join the FB group, too!

Much as I hate meal-planning, I think I'm going to have to write out a week's worth of food and plan nice snacks or I'll be hitting the Basket of Inappropriate Carbs with a vengeance. A shopping list would be useful, too. I've just realised I've forgotten two key ingredients. Le sign.

I have at least remembered to drink some pure water!

lk26 · 02/01/2015 15:57

I need to join in to. 2/3 st to loose sadly. Have sent a Facebook request too.

SalaciousCrumb · 02/01/2015 16:00

Another request to join the fb group from me here.

I went to work today, did well until I got home and had a generous slice of Christmas cake! Will be so much easier when the Christmas food has gone. I walked to work it is 20 minutes each way. We have also bought a treadmill - no excuse!

DesertIslandPenguin drinking more water is something I need to do; it's often said we mistake feelings of thirst for hunger. And a pint of water would also fill us up until the next meal.

DesertIslandPenguin · 02/01/2015 16:10

SalaciousCrumb I am guilty of drinking diet fizzy drinks all the time rather than water, so I'm trying to cut down on the bad stuff. Plus, being properly hydrated will hopefully flush away all the fluid retention from salty Christmas treats. My ankles certainly hope so!

TrenzalorWithBoughsOfHolly · 02/01/2015 16:12

Hi. I'd like to join if that's okay. FB request sent!
I've used MN for support and lost two stone in 2014. I use this board a lot and the 5:2 one. I have ideally three more stone to go but 1-2 would be okay.
I'm 5'6 and weigh 12 4. My heaviest weight was 15 13.

frankie80 · 02/01/2015 16:19

I've sent a FB group request too. I need all the support I can get!

26Point2Miles · 02/01/2015 17:11

salacious getting home from work is my downfall too. I'm good whilst working and take a great lunch. My job is active and quite physical. Then I'm home, kettle on... And disaster MAY strike as I go to sit down with that coffee!! I need to be organised and this is where my slow cooker comes in useful.

I think identifying our weakness and downfall time is key

I also find goig to bed early with a cup of tea and a book is better than watching mindless tv with teens wandering in with biscuits/crisps/whatever. My bedroom is up 2 flights of stairs so not usually tempted to venture down

Today's disaster was houmous for lunch! Ate too much. Logged it on mfp and was Shock at calorie count

SalaciousCrumb · 02/01/2015 17:20

Ah yes, houmous! I just eat loads of it if it's there with oatcakes, and before I know it another day of not-sticking-to-not-snacking!

Maybe for coming home from work 26point I will get organised and have carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes etc at the ready till the next meal time. Also those evenings are difficult.

My ds is an almost teen and I get concerned as he seems too thin so am encouraging him to have a snack in the evening...I am supposed to be doing weightwatchers so will have to plan this.

Are you planning on doing a marathon 26point?

I'm just off to have a glass of water!

youllshootyoureyeout · 02/01/2015 17:37

I'll join. Managed to lose a bit before Christmas, but pretty sure it's back on. I am 40 with 2 DC, 5ft 4 and weigh in the region of 11st 7lb (give or take a couple of lbs). I am going to start walking and swimming as well as eating healthily. I am upping my water intake (started today), eating more fruit and veg and reducing the amount of sugar the family eats.

I have also flirted with the idea of doing the couch25k, but am slightly terrified as I am big of nork and have weak knees. I will need to invest in a sports bra scaffolding and some decent exercise clothing. I feel slightly faint already. Grin

26Point2Miles · 02/01/2015 17:43

I'm doing silverstone half marathon in March and London marathon in April! I did a half marathon last year so for me It is doable. Just

Just did davinas legs bit. Found it quite easy. I do go to a local bootcamp a few times a week. The trainer there runs so we have a running club to mix in too. And we do other challenges through the year, just I work more now so miss sessions!

youll invest in some good running shoes too, good luck. I started running with c25k too

bowbear · 02/01/2015 17:51

Hi I just sent a FB request but the group said closed - any room for one more? x

RufusTheReindeer · 02/01/2015 18:12

My mfp will start on Sunday but I am trying to be good today and tomorrow and start in earnest on Sunday

Will include at least a half hour walk

Dawnywoo · 02/01/2015 18:25

youll I am also big of nork with weak knees and ankles (too top heavy) but sick of using it as an excuse. I wear 2 bras for exercise. One proper one with a sports bra over it. Anyway, would just love to be a couple of sizes smaller and I know this makes a difference!

Dawnywoo · 02/01/2015 18:33

CantThinkOfAName Your way of detailing your reasons is a good idea. This is the way ahead I think. To keep reminding ourselves of health reasons etc will keep us going. Have you joined the FB group? My user name is a giveaway to my name in RL

youbethemummylion · 02/01/2015 18:48

Finally found the FB group and its closed, but if anyone here is looking for a yummy healthy curry recipe google Jamie Oliver's Vegetarian Korma with fake cauliflower pilau 'rice' its lovely and very easy to make.

PartyFops · 02/01/2015 19:31

OK so this is getting serious. Went for a long walk this morning but it was only 8000 steps and aiming for at least 10,000 a day. B

I now have a treadmill cluttering up sitting in my living room!

An impulse purchase by DH earlier today. We decided that to get to the 10,000 steps target on a normal day with work etc will be hard, so this way we can top it up at home in the evening.

Also, I started c25k back in November but stopped during week 3 as my knees and hips were hurting, so I am hoping this will be easier on my joints.

Ate healthy today with Nandos marinated chicken in wholemeal pitta and salad for tea! No real hunger yet which is good!

ButterflyOfFreedom · 02/01/2015 19:53

Can I join please?

I'm 35, have 2 DC (aged 2 & 4 months), am 5'10, and weigh 11 stone 11 lbs.

I'd like to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight of 10 stone 4 lbs.

I started the healthier eating today which for me means no junk (chocolate, crisps, ice-cream, cake, biscuits, etc.) and will aim to get my 5 a day as well as drinking more water.

I need to exercise more too, I don't do any at the mo! Walking is a must!!!

Good luck everyone, we can do this!! Smile

ErmICantThinkOfAName · 02/01/2015 20:13

Dawnywoo I haven't joined the FB group as my weight and attempts at weight loss are not something I want to share with everyone on my friends list. I do a job that leaves me with a huge amount of acquaintances on my FB for promotional purposes and my battles with my weight are just a bit too personal for that!

Today started off really well and ended, well, erm, not so well.

Had a banana for breakfast and a glass of water followed by a black tea with no milk or sugar. I then didn't get lunch today so went to the gym rather hungry but this works well for me as I tend to find that I get more from my workout when I am fasted.

I then got home and only had an hour before rushing out to my evening job. I shoved a Weight Watchers ready meal in the microwave and did mushrooms, broccoli, cauliflower, peas and a slice of garlic bread to go with it. Unfortunately in the time it took to cook I managed to shovel a mince pie, a handful of peanuts, a handful of cheese savouries and 6 Pringles down my throat!! Dessert was 2 plums but I don't think all the fruit in the world can make up for a binge like that!

Also weighed myself this morning. Current weight is now 12st 6.4lbs.

Why so I self-sabotage like this? Sad

SalaciousCrumb · 02/01/2015 20:16

At the moment the Celebrations are calling me, the stilton is tempting me, dips are in the fridge next to full fat coleslaw and I'm tring not to think about the mince pies and Christmas cake! I must clear out my fridge.....and get dc and dh to hide/eat anything that's left!

SalaciousCrumb · 02/01/2015 20:19

Erm same problem here with Christmas left overs. That doesnt sound terribly disasterous as you have done so well today Smile

youllshootyoureyeout · 02/01/2015 20:21

I have just bought some running shoes thankfully, dreading buying the bra more.

ErmICantThinkOfAName · 02/01/2015 20:27

Youllshoot I am a 34F in "MN Bra Intervention" sizing and picked up a great sports bra for about a tenner in Tesco late last year. Don't know what size you are but it might be worth a look?

ChristinaHendricksGin · 02/01/2015 20:30

Can I join? Lost a stone before Xmas but still have around 5 stone to go.

I've a chronic illness which complicates matters. Mess and comfort eating through the pain are responsible for the weight pile on.

I'm following a vegan diet and doing the fast diet (4:3). This year I'm going to do it.

youllshootyoureyeout · 02/01/2015 20:32

Ooh thanks Erm will have look.

Dawnywoo · 03/01/2015 06:19

Erm the facebook group has been made into a closed group so it's private and doesn't show up on your time line. Therefore nobody you know can see what's posted.
