2015 Mumsnet Weightloss Club anyone?

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 01/01/2015 09:03

This is it I really need to get fit and slim down this year, my son is getting faster all the time and I feel like I'm letting him down being overweight as I can't keep up.

I've done slimming clubs (WW and SS) in the past and really like the support but I've always drifted off after a bad week or two and begun making excuses not to go. There's no way I'm giving up mumsnet and I find it easier to be brutally honest online so would anyone like to join me for support, tip sharing and the all important weekly weigh in?

I'm starting on Monday 5th as I find it easier to be distracted from food when I'm at work and will have finished the Xmas chocs by then and will be using MFP and my shiny new fitbit to track but anything goes on this thread it's all about the support!

Hopefully someone will come keep me company Xmas Grin

Morning all

Tough looking day three ahead. DD birthday and we are off out to a restaurant that doesn't seem to have a healthy option, chicken might be the best I can hope for.

Have a good day everyone

loveableshoulder · 03/01/2015 06:49

I'd love to join in. I'm notoriously bad at keeping up with threads like this but want to do my best to this time.

I'm 37 - 38 in three weeks - 5'4" and weigh about 10 st 3. I'd like to be 9 st 7 so not a huge amount to lose, but I want to make some proper lifestyle changes so that I stay there, rather than putting on, getting off ad finitum.

I'm also a runner, with halfs and marathons already entered. I'm not fast but quite competitive with myself and I must admit that one of my motivations for weightloss is getting faster times Blush

I mainly want to feel good physically at the end of each day and not wake up feeling bloated. I rarely drink as it leads me to snack (and affects my next day's run!). I just eat too any calories :(

My main things are to get rid of artificial sweeteners in squash (not ready to give it up in tea yet), and try to view my body as a machine, so with less emotion, as I think about how I can feel the best and get the best performance from it. Sorry if that sounds ridiculous! I've used mfp lots in the past but really need something more sustainable for me as I want this to be a change for life. I want to be sorted by 40, so two years.

I've requested the fb group too.

God that was long Blush

lucylou1977 · 03/01/2015 08:48

I'd like to join too! I did really well last year in an online slimming group but that group has gone really quiet so I was looking for another.

I'm 37, 5ft 4 and am currently

lucylou1977 · 03/01/2015 08:55

Ooopps, sorry, I'll start again!

I'm 37, 5ft 4 and I'm currently around 12 stone. I have two DDs aged nearly 4 years and 6 weeks. Need to shift two stone to get to my pre-pregnancy weight.I'm breastfeeding so can't do anything too drastic but am planning to track calories on mfp, as

Setting up my fitness pal today and have also foolishly bkd grit for 8 am tomorrow morning and if that doesn't kill me may stay for boxercise after. ! No excuse not to go to the gym as we have a great one at the bottom of the road and I am a member.
Made vege soup for lunch so that's healthy but need to keep off the tiger bread and cheese !

MrsKringle · 03/01/2015 11:10

Can I join? I'm 26 with one DS who is almost 4. I'm 5'4 and currently weigh 9st 11lb. My arms and legs are slim (inherited that from my DM) but my tummy is big. I have PCOS and weight sits around my stomach. When I was diagnosed last year I was advised to lose weight. I used MFP and lost half a stone but I always lose motivation after about a month. I used MFP in 2013 and lost a stone but I quickly put it back on again. I love food and I love cooking. I've officially started healthy eating today and all our dinners will come from the Hairy Dieters cookbooks. Been using them lately and the recipes are delicious. I'm a SAHM so my biggest thing is snacking. I seem to eat for the sake of eating.

RufusTheReindeer · 03/01/2015 11:45

Off to pub tonight for ds1 birthday but I am having a dry January

I am having a piece of cake

My mfp will start tomorrow

I weigh my self in kilos this morning, as I'm not sure of my exact weight in kilos IYSWIM I know I have put on a lot of weight over the last two weeks or so but I am confident that I will start losing from Sunday

I am having a blood test in march re my underactive thyroid and as it has caused quite large weight gains in the past I am going to make sure that I know my levels are right and that I'm not fobbed off at the doctors

Hope everyone is doing well so far

BiggerYellowTaxi · 03/01/2015 12:03

I'm in too. I've not read all posts yet but will catch up later today.

I'm 37, 2 DCs DS(4), DD(1). I weigh 14st 1lb today but was 13st 10.5lbs a few days ago but have been on a ridiculous junk binge so I expect (hope!) those few lbs will go quickly. I went for my first C25k run this morning - yay! I use MFP to track calories on and off but will be back on it. I'm going to try and avoid bread and sugar during the week and eat more vegetables. I want to lose 2 stone by June and 3 stone by the end of the year. I've almost always been a bit overweight and never been smaller than a 12. I'd be very happy to get to and stay a 12.

IceBeing · 03/01/2015 12:08

Hi, can I join? I was 14 stone 3 years ago and am now 11 stone 11 lbs.

I am aiming for 9 stone 8 lbs.

My main problem is eating to cure nausea produced by ADs....

frankie80 · 03/01/2015 12:09

day three of the diet and I'm getting headaches on and off. Don't know if its withdrawal symptoms or something as I haven't cut out anything, just cut down.

MinionDave · 03/01/2015 12:24

Can I join please? I weighed myself on Boxing Day and was 13st 5lb (Sad) so started the diet there and then ask couldn't put any more in. I weighed myself today and I'm 12st 13lb - I know a lot of this loss will be water but as long as it's a loss I couldn't careless Grin.

I'm 5'10 so for me another stone would be fine and get me back down to my 'normal' weight but any extra would be welcome!

I'm using WE, bought myself a Fitbit and about to restart the Shred as of today. Wish me luck as I'm so unfit these days!

ErmICantThinkOfAName · 03/01/2015 13:06

OMG my legs! Went to the gym this morning and walked for 45 minutes on the treadmill at 4.5mph then managed ten minutes on the cross trainer. Now I think every muscle from my waist downwards has seized up!!

Had soup with a bread roll instead of a kebab when I got home from my night job in the early hours of this morning and now about to sit down and eat a WW ready meal with extra veg on the side. The next time I will see food will be 3am tomorrow morning so I'm hoping my willpower will be strong then!

Will be having a cheat day tomorrow as we have guests for dinner so I will be doing BBQ pulled pork with wedges and coleslaw. I'm going to try to make up for it by just having fruit and some raw veg during the rest of the day.

Weekends are so hard because working nights screws up my eating pattern. If I manage to avoid the fast food at the end of tonight then I will consider this weekend to be a success.

loveableshoulder · 03/01/2015 13:37

I ducked out of a run today :( it's cold and raining and I didn't have enough time, really. I'm going to go tomorrow instead.

My main problem is portion control. This morning I deliberately made myself a smaller portion of breakfast and had soup for lunch; snacked on a few carrot sticks and grapes at a birthday party. So it's going well so far. Though we have another party this afternoon at a house notorious for providing fabulous food for the parents. So I'm feeling a little nervous. Hopefully posting on this thread will help keep my resolve.

Hi again - update from me. Things are going pretty well although I'm hungrier than I remember being last time I did this. I'm hoping that will lessen as I get into it. Will hunt down the Facebook group if it's private - a public one isn't good for me for lots of reasons! I've lost two pounds in two days but I think that's mainly water retention - I've done a lot of wees! Need to get some healthy snacks in - I'm bored of crab sticks already!

youbethemummylion · 03/01/2015 17:52

So today I've had grilled weight watchers bacon, boiled eggs and fried mushrooms for breakfast. Salad with a little Feta and carrot falafel for lunch and DH is cooking veggie sausages, boiled tatties, carrots, cauliflower and brocolli for tea. I'm allowing myself a smidge of gravy and mustard (after all there is no point being a martyrGrin) I worked this out at 1426 calories and as this is a no fasting day for me I hope that's quite good. I'm also doing dry January and the 30 day shred which I also started on Jan 1st. I'm a bit annoyed I've lost nothing while people on the dry January thread are seeming to loose just by cutting out the booze!

kiwikaterpillar · 03/01/2015 18:18

I am loving MFP... Not tried it before but finding it very helpful to log everything I am eating around seeing the true "value" of what I am eating. It's Sunday morning here so just did my (first since embarking on this) weekly jump on the scales and I've lost 1.6kg Grin. Feeling better having made an effort with the exercise, although starting C25K tomorrow and a little nervous about running tbh but can't justify gym membership $ wise so will have to just suck it up.
Good luck all.

bakingtins · 03/01/2015 18:38

I'm doing ok despite DH's best efforts at sabotage. We have agreed to do dry January, he has reacted by filling the cupboards with crap. Woke up this morning with the heavenly smell of pain au chocolate baking in the oven, and have been to a birthday party this afternoon, but have stayed on track. I'm finding MFP a bit frustrating as I'm trying to avoid processed foods. The estimates for homemade beef and vegetable stew was anything between 150-600 calories per serving....

BiggerYellowTaxi · 03/01/2015 18:46

bakingtins if there are recipes you make regularly, it is worth creating them in MFP. You can also amend them so if you make slightly different variations of the same thing it's quite easy to update it. It is time consuming at first but after a few weeks you'll probably have most of your usual meals entered.

kiwikaterpillar · 03/01/2015 18:49

Baking I have been adding my recipes to MFP as I too am avoiding processed foods. It takes a few minutes but I figured in the long run it would pay off. Can understand that may not be your idea of fun though.Wink
More worried about today as eating out at PIL for lunch so not sure how that will go- anyone have any tips around this? Do you just pick the most calorific version/ or average one etc?

Rinkydinkypink · 03/01/2015 18:51

So I've started along with many others it would seem! Been ok till ds came back home tonight with sweets galore from a party Hmm. Then I had to take a trip into the garage to discover all our hidden Christmas sweets Hmm. I'm craving sugar already and it's only been today.

I've been away for a few days and this morning I had a cooked breakfast but not a bad one just 1 bacon, 1 sausage, poached egg, tomato, mushroom and a slice of toast.

Lunch was an egg sandwich on brown bread.

Tea a cup of homemade soup.

I'm finding I'm really thirsty, dry mouth, bad taste in it. Have a headache starting and my stomach isn't hungry but feels very empty.

Haven't started any exercise yet.

Gavlaaa · 03/01/2015 18:59

Please may I join? I've just weighed myself and am horrified. I am 3 stone over what I thought I was (so I am 14 stone 4 lbs) Sad

So ultimately I need to lose 5 stone, although I realise this is a big mountain to climb and so my initial target is for 2 stone to have been lost by the end of spring.
