Somewhere between 8-18 months lemonaid and probably a boy

suejonez · 27/08/2006 15:50

hello hub, I wondered where you'd got to.

I'm in the IoW eating delicios garlic bread and today my mum is cooking major league roast with cauli flowere cheese, roasties, lamb etc etc. So my weigh in wioll be similarly disasterous.

Still at least weighing in meansx to get back to normal straight afterwards. I remember that days when goining away meant eating masses for a fortnight after not just during the holidays

justamum · 27/08/2006 16:00

I like the idea of setting small achievable targets, mine will be: not to finish ds's meals for him and to go for a walk at least 4 times a week.
Also, do not spend hrs on mn when could be doing something about domestic chaos (non diet related but pertinent)

suejonez · 27/08/2006 16:02

study justamum - one or two achievable goals not 2 achievable ones and one patently obviously impossible and unreasonable one

suejonez · 27/08/2006 16:03

put fairy liquid onto DS meals when he's finished, immediately. Keep a watered down bottle, perhaps in a spray, just until you get into the habit of not eating the left overs.

MrsJohnCusack · 27/08/2006 16:25

schneebly good to see you but so sorry about the pregnancy
Hope your induction goes OK next week.

I've just eaten an entire tube of Pringles but in my defense I have spent all day clearing sheds/stores/cupboards and lifting stuff in and out of the car/house/at the tip so I have been pretty active. Going to a pub quiz tonight, will attempt not to eat more there...

inlaw situation seems to be slightly better. I think I will survive next week. I hope so anyway...am feeling much much happier today all in all.

whoopsfallenoveragain · 27/08/2006 17:04

Hi,

I think I have just blown my chances of losing anything this week - Yesterday went to a wedding (invited at last minute on the hen night!) so haven't been to the gym for 2 days and ate lovely food! and yoday we went to a harvester for dinner and as they do my favourite dessert gave in to my willpower

So am off for a mega workout & swim later!!

justamum · 27/08/2006 17:37

what a good idea re washing up liquid, i am going to spray everything edible with it! except fruit and salad.
i also admit defeat on mn issue, have been on for 11/2 hrs (whoops)

suejonez · 27/08/2006 19:45

I have so many good ides I just don;t know what to do with them all...

Dottydot · 27/08/2006 20:36

Hi all - can I join in please?! I joined WW a month ago and have managed to shift just under a stone - with 3 to go... Am pleased with how it's going but last week only managed to lose half a pound, so I'm flagging a bit! I'm eating less and doing more, but finding it very hard. Mealtimes are OK, I'm eating smaller portions and the right sort of things, but it's the snacking that gets me. Am trying to snack on fruit but it's soooooooooo boring!!

Ahem. My mini targets are 1.5 more lbs for my first stone, then another 2lbs takes me to what I weighed in 1994 (!!!) then 7lbs more will take me to the least I've weighed as a grown up. Phew! All in all I'd like to lose another stone by the end of October (friend's wedding!) and then another one by Christmas.

suejonez · 27/08/2006 21:00

Hello Dotty, I've lost a stone so far but have many more to go than you.

Can I be very blunt with you? I can smell the scent of potential disaster ahead...

only managed to lose half a pound
and you expect to lose 2 stone by Christmas which is 16 weeks.

I think you are setting yourself up for failure - you sound so negative - "only" half a pound? Since when is any weight loss only?! you have had a good week and lost weight and you seem to be frustrated with yourself.

And you will need to lose about 2lb a week EVERY week to lose 2 stone by Xmas! Did you put 2 stone on in 3 months? I'll bet you didn't - why would you expect to lose it faster than you put it on? You should expect to lose between 0-2lbs per week, probably an average of a pound a week after the first month.

IMHO you should be aiming to lose MAX 1.5 stone before Xmas if you lose more great but please please don't set yourself unrealistic targets.

I'm only having a go at you because in my experience (which is VAST in more ways than one ) the most common reason people fail at diets is because they "fail" in their own minds and get discouraged. If you lost even half a pound a week you would be a very happy woman this time next year.

OK lecture over

Nice to have you on board!

Dottydot · 27/08/2006 21:04

Aarrgghhh! I know. I'm my own worst enemy - a perfectionist who has to do everything absolutely right and if it fails (IMO) just a bit then I tend to give up... . I lost 7.5lbs in the first week, 4.5lbs the next and then only 0.5 - I knew it was going to slow down, but I was hoping for 1 - 2 lbs a week to come off. It feels like I'm working flipping hard at not eating crap, so I deserve to shift it more quickly..!

But I know you're right - it's why I wanted to join this thread, so I can witter/moan away instead of eating and talk to people who I know will understand - thanks. I'll try to re-programme my brain - half a pound is good...!

suejonez · 27/08/2006 21:06

well you've come to the right place - this is the hard-core posse. We're in it for the long term. Long gradual dieting and a slow change in habits.

suejonez · 27/08/2006 21:09

and it is very difficult to get away from the "I ought ot be able to lose 2lb per week, I have ONLY lost a pound therefore I failed" mentality. Easier said than done.

One of the things we tried to do when we started this up is to discuss what small habits we would like to change and the forst few weeks was as much about trying to change those habits as it was about losing weight.

I haven't completely succeeded but on the whole I am more positive, and marginally healthier and slightly thinner than I was 15 weeks ago. Thats a whole lot better than if I wasn't trying - I would probably be depressed and 3 pounds heavier!

suejonez · 27/08/2006 21:12

I always work on a pound a week as being a success. Anything more than staying the same is good. Putting on is bad but we draw a line at teh end of every week (on a Wednesday) and start again. Everyone has had their good weeks and their bad weeks, I think wihtout exception - you won;t be any different.

Dottydot · 27/08/2006 21:12

Yes that's true. I've found my first few weeks very hard - to try to change my snacking habit. But it's pretty much under control - and I've discovered prawns in a big way so they feature pretty much in every meal! I'm not weighing food or counting points - wouldn't stick to it - and I want a long term plan, so small meals and trying to drink water is what I'm doing at the moment. Have switched to skimmed milk and sweetners for coffee (used to be milky + 2 sugars!) and diet coke.

Feels like I've changed nearly all of my eating habits - but just remind me it's still worth it for 0.5 lb!!! (although 12.5 in total! )

Dottydot · 27/08/2006 21:13

I get weighed on a Thursday - can I send my stats on a Thursday evening?

suejonez · 27/08/2006 21:18

Everyone sends their weight in on a Weds so it might get a bit complicated to change now - could either posdt yours a week in areas, or post your own loss on the thread on Thursday evening (you don't have to mention your weight just the loss) or you could assess you weight on a wednesday on your own scales.

Dottydot · 27/08/2006 21:19

no problem - I'll post a week behind - let me know where to send it! Or I'll just post on the thread - especially if I've had a 'bad' (but must think of it as being good!) week...

suejonez · 27/08/2006 21:28

This week you should send to suejonez at aol dot com (normally its different but WWB is away and I'm deputising)

justamum · 28/08/2006 00:14

sue, just been reading your comments on the "been to the dr" thread. You are officially a genius, your posts are fantastic. I think moondog must have pmt as I have spent half the afternoon reading about her on breastfeeding threads (or is she always like that). Anyway, my fat has blocked the "my god i'm knackered" signals to my brain like it always does after everyone else has gone to bed so i really must get some sleep now.

champs · 28/08/2006 00:27

hiya!!
schneebly - so sorry to hear your news hun.

JackieNo and suejonez, I think i'll try to loose 1 stone by christmas.

champs · 28/08/2006 00:33

suejonez · 28/08/2006 00:44

Justamum, thanks for the admiration I'm off to bed now too.
