Nice, shiny new thread.

Winnie, come and talk to us over here.

OP posts:
JackieNo · 25/08/2006 22:13

Definitely. Just as well I only had 2 bits of chocolate out of the box of Celebrations my mum gave us.

Fauve · 25/08/2006 22:48

The race for Christmas is on...

winnie · 26/08/2006 14:13

I believe there are 16 weeks to Christmas

coppertop · 26/08/2006 14:25

I think I'd settle for even half a stone by Christmas.

suejonez · 26/08/2006 14:40

Did anyone (obviously I mean Jackie ) see the QVC TSV a few weeks ago - a massive box of Chrsitmas decorations - I think it was still July at the time.

suejonez · 26/08/2006 14:45

Coppertop - I don;t think there's anything wrong with setting whatever goal you're happy with. Better to set something sensible say 7lbs and be really happy when you acheive it than to set a goal of 21lbs an then be unhappy when you've "failed". Any weight loss is a success as far as I'm concerned and though its good to set targets, particularly if you have a lot to lose as it breaks it down a bit, sometimes it is easy to to lose sight of the fact that ANY weight loss is good. We get far too depressed when we think we are not doing well enough.

Hurrah for us!

Do you think maintaining weightloss with a one year old and being home in the run up to Xmas is acheivable? I can;t decide wehther I'm going to find it easier due to the running around or harder becasue I'll be at home picking more.

JackieNo · 26/08/2006 14:46

I didn't actually - although I remember they did have their 'Christmas in July' day (or weekend or something). Haven't watched nearly as much QVC as I used to - another thing that DH hates, and also the tv's constantly tuned to CBeebies.

JackieNo · 26/08/2006 14:49

Yes - difficult to know which of the various factors will win out, sue.
Having a 1-year-old: good for weight loss, you'll be running around after them and maybe forgetting to eat
Being at home all day: Not very good, if you're anything like me, as possibility of more temptations.
Christmas: Yet more temptation (mmm, mince pies!).

suejonez · 26/08/2006 14:51

I'm ok with mince pies even the smell of one gives me heart burn. I have one a year then remember the heartburn and stop for another year!

JackieNo · 26/08/2006 14:54

Christmas cake, Baileys, brandy butter? or are you resistant to all Christmas food (you lucky thing)

flutterbee · 26/08/2006 14:56

Oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh brandy butter, stop it I'm drooling.

I may go missing after Christmas for a few weeks, just enough time to lose the weight I put on in one day!!

JackieNo · 26/08/2006 14:59

I know - it's going to be very difficult. I'm hoping I can continue to do the 'eat what you like but just have really small portions' diet I've been on so far, but I'm not sure my willpower is up to it.

suejonez · 26/08/2006 15:02

My mum makes a very nice Dundee cake (in leiu of Xmas cake) and I do have a slice or two of that, but no - I don't drink (so no baileys) and don't like brandy butter. Our Xmas eating has pretty much shrunk down to Xmas day and boxing day recently so more manageable than it used to be in teh past. Week long running buffets!

My weekness (apart from the roast lunch itself yum) is (immodestly) my world famous tiramisu. Which has double cream AND marscapone AND alcohol AND egg yolks AND sugar AND chocolate

JackieNo · 26/08/2006 15:03

I love tiramisu - that sounds fabulous!

suejonez · 26/08/2006 15:09

wihtout trying to be big-headed (but managing anyway) I have not found a tiramisu to touch it. Not even in a restaurant and anyone who has it agrees. [smug emoticon]

But marscapone is a heart attack in a pot - highewr in cals than double cream I think

Fauve · 26/08/2006 16:03

I would try to get out of the house as much as possible, anyway, Suejonez - staying at home with a one-year-old leads to brain death, if not death by chocolate. Have you researched all the local playgroups and one o'clock clubs, etc? Or are you just going to be Principal MN Meet-Up Organiser ?

suejonez · 26/08/2006 16:09

Fauve I don't think I'm going to be at home long enough for it to be necessary . Also it will be the run up to Xmas so will probably be plenty to keep me busy. Gosh my first "real" family Christmas! How many years have I though "Maybe THIS Christmas...."

JackieNo · 26/08/2006 16:31

How much adoption leave are you likely to get, sue?

winnie · 26/08/2006 16:33

I have made a carrot cake and flapjack this afternoon. I am on my own and bored and missing ds whats the likelihood I will give in to temptation?

JackieNo · 26/08/2006 16:35

Sounds very dangerous winnie. About to go swimming, though that's not as healthy as it sounds - involves bobbing about with DS in the baby pool, and hardly even straightening my legs. Then to Pizza Express.

suejonez · 26/08/2006 16:38

It's not so much how long I've got but I much I get. You don;t get the inital 90% (6 weeks?) that you do with maternity, then I go down to £100 per week. And I can only claim that from the date I arrive back into the country so have to tkae the first 6 weeks as holiday/unpaid.

I expect to go back beginning of Jan but am going to try to negotiate a month at 2 days a week then back take a few holiday days to do maybe a month at 3 days a week, then back four days a week from beginning of March. Think thats the best I can do unless I win the lottery

suejonez · 26/08/2006 16:39

why are you missing DS Winnie - have I missed a post - where's he gone?

winnie · 26/08/2006 16:41

I want to go swimming without ds (I know what you mean jackie about hardly straightening legs). I may get up early and go to the pool before it gets busy. I feel so unfit. I think thats what is depressing me. I've always been overweight but I've always mantained a certain level of fitness but in the last year its all gone to pot.

Anyway, ds is away until Monday morning, dd is out and I am decluttering in an attempt to get vaguely organised but I am bored now and have piles of things everywhere. Maybe I should put some music on and dance whilst I finish decluttering.

winnie · 26/08/2006 16:43

Sue, you are going to have such a fab Xmas

(Ds is at his Dads for the entire weekend which is something that has never happened before. Ussually we have him a day each at the weekend.)
