Hi Ladies, I'm new here on the board but have been reading for a while now..

To make a long story short I'm going through a really hard time right now, dealing with separation.. 7-yr relationship and a 4-yr daughter. We moved to London last year from abroad so my social network isn't very large, to say the least. (n.b: I do love London though and planning to stay.) This is just a bit of background info to help you understand.

The reason I'm actually on the board is because I'm starting a diet. I'm unhappy with my looks and none of my clothes fit me, and my budget definitely doesn't allow for a wardrobe overhaul. So I'll use this thread as a diet diary and hope to get some encouragement and perhaps advice from you.

I've chosen the Dukan diet mydukandiet.com/dieting/. I'm at 69kg now and would like to get to 59kg, which is my pre-pregnancy weight (sorry can't get my head around stones and pounds yet). I actually dropped close to 60 kg when breastfeeding but have gained way too much weight since.

This is the plan:
5-day Attack phase starting tomorrow. (I've actually started 'light' today, just to prepare my body for it, so not eating pasta and breads and sugars today)
Cruise phase - the online Dukan calculator says that by the 9th of November I should get to 59kg, so I should lost 10kg in just a but over 2 months.
Consolidation - that's supposed to last 100days or so, after Cruise.

Thanks for having the patience to read so far. Hoping to hear from you along the way and if anyone wants to join in and diet, I'd be thrilled :)

Going to start from weekend, just planning and need to download the app.
Found the book for £1 today Smile in the charity shop.

bishboschone · 06/09/2012 21:54

Yes join in!! I'm 37 too although not in London . Smile

twittertotter · 07/09/2012 08:19

How is everyone this morning?

Spookily I am also a 37 year old, living in London with 2 DCs and I come from overseas!

@sand- well done on your 5lbs!

I'm on day 5 of attack today and going to weigh in tomorrow. Really looking forward to something green tomorrow. It also hope I will get a good number!

@nuks. Thanks for the galette tip- had mine with chicken slices last night and it was pretty good.

I also made chicken schnitzel yesterday using oat bran instead of breadcrumbs and they were yum! Grin

nuks · 07/09/2012 09:31

@solittletimeandsomuchtodo welcome, fellow overseas soul (I'm afraid to ask where from)

@twittertotter now that's spooky :)
The chicken schnitzel idea is fabulous, I'll try.

So I'm in the 1st day of cruise today. To my surprise, I'm 65.2kg this morning down from 68-69kg. So I lost about 7lb in 6 days, textbook case :)

I put some peppers and onions in the omelette to kick-off the cruise phase. Had the oat bran with two spoons of youghurt and I'm now enjoying my black coffee. All in all a happy day :)

Good luck to all of us... I believe the Cruise is much more difficult, it's way longer.

I am just coming to the end of cruise .. I can honestly say I haven't cheated once . It was ok .. Tricky at times but certainly do able Smile

SandWitch · 07/09/2012 21:01

Evening all,

Well done for getting through attack nuks - great weight loss.

I finished four days of attack yesterday and I had lost 6lbs this morning. Really pleased with this, but have to assume things will slow down a lot now.

My plan during cruise is to stick to mainly protein only meals, but add plenty of veg to one meal a day.

Really missing fruit; not sure that I can last three months without any fruit, but will see how we go...

nuks · 07/09/2012 22:20

@SandWitch: I'm missing fruit too. And cheese. Bread not yet which is funny because I thought I was addicted.

I was thinking if I should change the dukan diet 1pp/1pv rhythm to just eating protein and vegs with no carbs/no sugar/no oils/no fruit every day, not alternating. Sort of the same thing as you, but not make a rule. Cooking is much easier like that. I'm not a meat eater so more vegs seems better for me.

I don't eat too much normally, I just have bad food habits that include too much bread and carbs and fat from cheese.

But then I'm not sure if it will work with the weight loss... so for now I'm trying to stick to the Cruise phase perhaps I can last one month then I'll revisit.

We have to be careful with this diet as Christmas is around the corner so to speak... I don't want to lose 20lbs and then put it all back at Christmas :)

OP posts:
SandWitch · 08/09/2012 08:29

I know what you mean about Christmas!

I think I will have another read through the book this weekend and come up with a plan. I want to lose this weight as quickly as possible, so maybe tinkering is not the way to go. I want something that is sustainable though, I will kick myself if this diet does not work. It is sort of a last ditch attempt to sort my weight out.

I really know that carbs are bad for me though - believe it or not I feel much better, even on such a restrictive diet. I am another 1lb down this morning and feeling really positive.

I am not sure if I could do this diet if I were not a meat eater though - how on earth do you manage?

bishboschone · 08/09/2012 12:09

I couldn't have survived this diet without Pepsi max and activia yogurts . You need to find the things that work for you and buy in bulk so no temptation .Smile

SandWitch · 08/09/2012 12:16

oh yes - always having the fridge full of things I can eat; and particularly things that can be eaten quickly is a must Smile

bishboschone · 08/09/2012 13:02

I wouldn't worry about Christmas . I lost most of my weight in the summer holidays so only 6 weeks .. 6 weeks from now you are still ages away from Christmas .Smile

solittletimeandsomuchtodo · 08/09/2012 20:05

So I've downloaded the app.
Done my weight calculations and getting ready to start on Monday.
Talk to me about gallettes?
What uk ingredients to you use?

What are you fav and quickest pure protein breakfasts?

bishboschone · 08/09/2012 20:19

Scrambled egg.. 2/3 eggs whisk with fork .. Nuke 20 seconds on micro.. Repeat three times ..

bishboschone · 08/09/2012 20:20

I don't eat gallettes or oat bran ( Bleurgh ) so
I'm
Not much help... I also have 2 yogurts one vanilla and one fruit on other days .. Can't stomach eggs every day .

nuks · 09/09/2012 10:15

@solittletimeandsomuchtodo: I use two eggs, 'light choices fromage frais' from Tesco, and oat bran - whisked together then cooked in a non-stick pan greased with oil (i wipe it with a paper towel to remove the excess oil).

nuks · 09/09/2012 10:20

My weight dropped under 65 as of this morning! I know it's supposed to slow down but I'm hoping to get to 64 by the end of week 1 cruise.

Btw, in the attack phase I made galettes every morning, using 1 egg, but not planning on continuing that now that I can eat veggies. I normally eat eggs once or twice a week so this is what I will be doing.

OP posts:
bishboschone · 09/09/2012 11:18

Well done nuks Smile

SandWitch · 10/09/2012 08:54

Well done nuks - you are doing really well.

I am down to 12st 12 this morning, that is 8lbs lost in one week!!! I think that I will have to stop weighing myself daily now as I know it will slow down a lot, and I don't want to feel disappointed by 'normal' weight loss. iyswim.

I am also cheating by having a bowl of porridge every morning - this keeps me really full, so not feeling like eating much during the day. I am having regular snacks of chicken slices and lean ham.

Four weeks until the big Four Oh! Really hoping that I can get into my fav outfit for dinner Grin

nuks · 10/09/2012 10:34

Thanks SandWitch you're doing very well too. I'm afraid to cheat, and I'm only tempted by -strangely- honey, probably my body is craving the sugars? :)

First day today when I didn't see any weight loss on the scale but no gain either - I'm still under 65 so there is hope. Today is protein only and I've no idea what I am going to be eating for lunch and dinner, I'm so unprepared..

OP posts:
bishboschone · 10/09/2012 12:44

I have days where my weight stabilises and also can go up . It was upsetting the first time it happened but it does go back and then goes down again. I am tye same that I get cross if it goes up or even stays the same but keep at it it will go Smile

twittertotter · 10/09/2012 20:47

@sand. 8lbs that's amazing -well done you!

I managed 6lb by the end of last week which I am astounded by BUT I fell off the wagon in Sunday and had some wine about a bottle in the local pub. I've been too scared today to weigh in as I've probably undone all my hardwork. Sad

Does anyone know what is the best way to alternate the pp/pv days? 1:1 or 5:5 to get maximum losses? I think Dukan says 5:5 but recognises that 1:1 might be easier to stick with.

bishboschone · 10/09/2012 20:56

You are right about the 5-5 method . It's supposed to be better but the 1-1 is supposed to be easier to stick to .

SandWitch · 11/09/2012 10:33

Thanks twittertotter

Don't stress out too much about falling off the wagon - I think the most important part must be to just get back on and think of it as a blip, rather than give up iyswim. I think avoiding weighing in for a couple of days is probably a good idea though.

No loss for me this morning Sad - had a large salad with salmon for supper with Dukan's balsamic dressing and it really was lovely.
Was good all day food wise, but I was thirsty by the end of the day, so can not have had enough to drink.

Trying to make up for it today - I can't tell you how desperate I am for this to work - I am not feeling hungry at all, which is great. I have also found a new treat which I will keep for when I really need a treat - sugar free jelly. You can get ready made tubs of various flavours (Hartley's I think) which seem like a good thing to have in the fridge in the even of a sweet munchie emergency Grin

bishboschone · 11/09/2012 10:54

Sandwitch ... It will work , it has worked for me despite my thyroid not working and having tried every other diet in the last year post baby . I am wearing size 8 clothes this morning.. SmileI hope I can give
You the incentive to
Keep going as my weight has gone up and down but stick at it and it will go .

SandWitch · 11/09/2012 11:02

bishboschone thank you for your words on encouragement - they really mean a lot.

Having lost weight before and put large amounts back on, I really do want a change of lifestyle. This diet just makes sense to me. I know, in my heart that my eating gets out of control when I have too many carbs. The emotional connection that I have to eating is really quite firmly entrenched too and carbs seem to kind of fuel this feeling. I never feel like I have had 'enough' so get myself into a spiral; I eat carbs, I feel crap, I put on weight, I feel crap, I eat carbs...

Your loss does inspire me - thanks again.
