Hey everyone,

Saw the last thread was nearly full so thought I would start a new one :)

Just waiting for my beef rogan curry to finish cooking. Smells AMAZING :) Thank god I am off attack now!

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone can give me a bit of advice as I'm new to this whole Dukan lark.

I took the 'true weight' test on the website and was told it's 10st 0 (I'm 5'10). This is only 0.5lb less than I weigh now, but I would like to get down to 9st 6 - this is what I weighed a year ago and maintained it fairly easily before I started pigging and slowly but steadily putting on weight. So I don't have a great deal to lose but enough to make me want to follow something that gives results and retrains my eating so I don't put it back on again.

What I was wondering was whether I could get away with eating small amounts of lettuce/cucumber to keep me sane? Will this totally disrupt my weight loss? I figure since there are negligible carbs in the amount of these I'd have at a time (certainly less than in yogurt) they shouldn't have a big impact on the diet should they? I will go without if you think it's necessary!

Today is my first day going Dukan, this is what I've had so far:

Breakfast: egg white omelette
Snack: 125g fat free natural yogurt
Lunch: 200g chicken breast, 100g low fat cottage cheese, 1 handful lettuce leaves, about 1/4 of a cucumber (6ish slices)

I've bought some oat bran so I'm planning to have a galette for dinner, maybe with some tuna or ff natural yogurt.

How does this sound food wise? I want to get things right early on so I don't waste time thinking I'm doing it but not losing any weight. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Piffle · 28/07/2011 10:13

That's very light for 5ft 10
If I get to 9st 4 at 5 ft 6 I'll be a size 8 and very slim?
You must be quite slender already I think?
People tell me I am too but I know the desire to carve off more
Food sounds fine but doing PP really loses the weight fast
I lost 2 kg in 3 days and have kept it off mostly on P and Veg
Am doing two days of PP ( pure protein) before weekend.
I'm at 10 St 2 now
Very keen to get to 9st something!

foreverondiet · 28/07/2011 10:45

cherrydrops dukan did not intend his diet to be used by already slim people wanting to be slimmer, and in the book he does harp on about using it to get to true weight rather than below. That all being said, I am now nearly a stone below what the website said my true weight was, and I am managing to maintain (I am 8 stone 8 and am 5 foot 4 - BMI 20.3), - but I am a size 8 now and don't want to lose any more.

At 5 foot 10 and 10 stone you are at your "true weight" which incidentially is a BMI of 20, which by some charts is the cut off for being underweight (although other charts say healthy is down to 18.5).

I agree with you though about the veggies. As you say dairy is high is carbs, and I am much happier with some (green) veggies and it didn't impact weight loss. I did 5 days of attack though, just didn't do many protein days afterwards. Why not see what the scales say tomorrow? I dropped 1lb each attack day (5 days).

CherryDrops · 28/07/2011 11:07

I know it's fairly small for 5'10 but it's a healthy weight for my frame (small - fingers easily overlap around my wrists) - I work with overweight/obese women so am well aware of healthy weights for heights! My body fat % is in the high 20s so I would like to reduce this (but wouldn't mind if I weighed more with increased muscle mass). I'm currently a large 10/small 12 and would like to be a proper size 10 again so my clothes look better on me. I've been below 9st 6 before and felt that I started to look too thin so will not be aiming to go any lower than this.

I weighed myself this morning and have lost 1lb from yesterday (2lbs in 2 days, but the day before I didn't follow the Dukan principles rigidly as hadn't decided to try that yet), so am now back under 10st :)

That's interesting about Dukan not being for already slim people, I just figured it was no different to people who had lost a lot of weight and were trying to lose the last half stone or so.

I think I'm going to loosely follow the principles but include lower carb veg as well, rather than doing alternating PP/PV days. I think I just need the structure of the 'allowed' foods to help me get back on track and give me a bit of a kick up the bum. I'm going on holiday in three weeks and would like to be a few lbs down by then, although I've accepted I am unlikely to be down to my target weight by then.

foreverondiet · 28/07/2011 12:58

cherry drops - sounds sensible - doing dukan but with PV days each day.

Once you hit your target you can add in fruit and the other consolidation foods (cheese, bread).

Interesting that your BMI can be at 20 yet fat % in high 20s. In terms of people losing weight & the last bit etc Dukan says to stop dieting at true weight, ie when you get there you shouldn't try and loose more,

CherryDrops · 28/07/2011 14:36

Ok yes that makes sense. I'm not sure though how true my true weight is - when I was filling in the boxes I said my weight settles around 10st because it has lately, but I weighed 9st 6/7 and maintained that weight fairly easily for over a year. So I don't really know what my stable weight is and that probably affected it calculating my true weight.

And yes, I'm probably what you'd call 'skinny fat' - I have a small frame, decent sized boobs (32DD) but don't look particularly toned - I don't have a lot of muscle on me so much of the weight I do have is fat, hence the high BF%. I'd happily weigh 10st+ if it was muscle rather than fat! In clothes I look pretty slim but I'm not happy with the way I look in a bikini, hence wanting to drop a few lbs of fat and do some more exercise so I put on a bit of muscle.

foreverondiet · 28/07/2011 16:08

cherry toning exercises every day, like 30 day shred, can make a big difference in 3 weeks to your bikini body. (I now have 18%-20% body fat (gym as well as 30DS etc) but thats taken months).

CherryDrops · 28/07/2011 16:44

That was what I was planning to do - have the DVD and have half heartedly tried before but given up before I even got to level 2. I'd love to have about 20% body fat but I'm not unrealistic in thinking I'll be anywhere near that within 3 weeks. If the shred will make a difference in that time I'll definitely give it a good go though!

ednurse · 29/07/2011 01:12

I'm starting Dukan tomorrow! Also planning to reattempt the 30 day shred. Weighed 61kg this morning. Plan to get to 57kg by 13th August.

dukanyoucanican · 29/07/2011 08:17

Hi all, I got to 10st 9 the other day! But then .... My birthday happened, fish and chips, croissants, birthday cake and pizza .....

New start 10st 13!!!

Here we go again! Having a big mug of hot lemon water to try kick start the elimination of all the bad, bad food lol

catinboots · 29/07/2011 08:27

Hiya. I started last monday, but totally fucked it up towards the end of the week and the weekend (we had family over etc.)

Started again this Monday and I'm down to 10 4 this morning. Started at 10 11 on Monday. It's my bloody hen night on Saturday so will obviously be drinking. Just need to try and make sure that Sunday is not a total carb-fest.....

catinboots · 29/07/2011 08:28

Oh, have also been to gym and done a class four days this week. Don't know if it's my imagination but my arms look more toned already

foreverondiet · 29/07/2011 09:22

So I'm not the only one who gains 4-5lbs after a naughty weekend? But its not all fat and I do loose it when I am back on track.

And yes, this diet does help you look more toned v quickly!

dukanyoucanican · 30/07/2011 15:30

Yeah 4 lbs seems to be the norm for me after a splurge, there has been leftover cake eating but I'm down to 10 st 12 so fingers crossed I keep on track, it's just my hubands birthday in a few days argh!

CherryDrops · 01/08/2011 09:42

Having lost 2lbs in a couple of days last week, I went away with friends at the weekend and am back to where I started. Back on it today in a big way, am aiming to knock that weight back off today and tomorrow and be down another 2lbs by this time next week.

So starting this week at 10st 1, hoping to be 9st 11 this time next week. Now where did I leave that chicken?...

CherryDrops · 02/08/2011 09:44

Weighed in this morning 1.75lbs lighter :o That's in spite of having had quite a lot of dairy and adding a few strawberries to my yogurt last night. I love seeing results after just one day - it's exciting every morning when you get on the scales. Hoping to lose another lb today.

I'm really enjoying not being hungry on this diet - before I started I was eating a pretty high carb diet and would constantly feel like snacking. The protein definitely keeps me fuller for longer.

ggirl · 02/08/2011 09:52

hi , am on the other dukan thread as well.
Have just finished 6 days of attack and have lost 7lbs!!

Have 3st in total to lose, so 1/6th gone already.

Am looking forward to veggies today.

BBwannaB · 04/08/2011 20:02

Hi Dukaners! Completely new dieter here

current weight 11st 9lb
true weight 10st 3lb
weight to lose 20 lb

have completed 5 days of attack, but don't seem to have lost any Sad
what am I doing wrong?

today I had
2egg omlette
1 pot muller light with oat bran
SMALL portion of chicken breast and 2 slices of pastrami
tonight was last night so I had some salad leaves with taco seasoned minced beef & 0% plain yogurt

All the other days very similar without the salad

I think I am drinking lots of water, but maybe I should measure, how much is 2 litres in pints?

Thanks!!

CherryDrops · 05/08/2011 09:43

Hi BBwannaB,

I think 2 litres is about 5 pints. From what you've said you're eating I can't see why you haven't lost any weight. Are you weighing at the same time of day using the same scales?

BBwannaB · 06/08/2011 09:17

Thanks Cherry I have lost a couple of pounds now, maybe I wasn't drinking enough. But also I already had a fairly healthy diet, no booze, lots of vegs etc, so maybe the change was not dramatic enough to cause massive weight loss. I am going to persevere as I think it works well since I have not felt hungry at all, maybe stick to p+V to avoid the constipation and go for slow steady loss.

stretch · 06/08/2011 15:17

Hello, another new dieter here! Am on day 2 of attack, says I need to do 3, but I may do 4.

Current weight 10st 10lb
True weight 9st 8lb
So I have 16 lbs to lose. Although, I did a sneaky weigh just now and it says 10st 7lb, but I'm not supposed to weigh until this evening!

Yesterday went well, didn't feel hungry once. Seems weird to be on a diet but not hungry IYSWIM?

Cookies were a bit meh, but I am going to put some ginger spice in to make them taste better. (Hope it's allowed) Also, I didn't like the Vietnemese beef, so did cajun spice instead. Having crab sticks as a snack, but not really needed it tbh.

Doing the curry tonight, any tips?

Karbea · 07/08/2011 08:51

Hello,

I've put on lots of weight lately, feeling bloated and uncomfortable, so thinking dukan could help.

Is the book worth getting? Does it tell you what to each each day? Or does it just give you a list of foods?

Thanks,

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 07/08/2011 09:08

Hello all - I am starting first day of attack today - Just had a lovely breakfast of lean ham and a 2-egg omelette, got a seafood lunch and roast chicken and boiled egg for dinner - snacks of oatbran galette, yoghurt, and possibly s/f jelly. Had a green tea and some water - and am now off to do the protein shop for the week.

I have switched my scales to kilos as I have spent three months in the mid 12 stones, having stalled on SW - so am weighing in at 80.2kg and would love to be 70kg by my 40th in January.

BBwannaB · 07/08/2011 21:29

I was at the supermarket checkout this morning and thought the woman in front of me was putting my shopping through by mistake. Then I realised she must be a fellow dukaner...oatbran-check, 0% yogurt-check, leafy veg- check, smoked salmon-check.
Have to say she looked damn good, so I am hoping Grin

BBwannaB · 10/08/2011 18:37

Tonight for p&v I had spaghetti bolognaise with roasted courgette instead of the spag - it was actually really lush, tasty and kind of light tasting.
