New Thread for Lo Carbers/non-carbers, etc

WhereamI · 07/02/2011 16:31

Old lo-carb thread was 'too big' and wouldn't let me post this. It's for a almond meal pancake - I find one is really filling (I have it with total yoghurt and blueberries) and leave the mix in the fridge to have another next day.

Ingredients:
?1 cup almond flour
?2 eggs
?1/4 cup water (for puffier pancakes, you can use sparkling water)
?2 T oil
?1/4 teaspoon salt
?1 T sweetener
Preparation:
Mix ingredients together and cook as you would other pancakes. I like to use a nonstick pan with a little oil. The only real difference is that they won't "bubble" on top the same way as regular pancakes. Flip them when the underside is brown.

Yield: Six 4-inch pancakes

Nutritional Information: Each pancake has 1 gram effective carbohydrate, plus 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 155 calories.

You are all making me feeel guilty for not doing some running. Maybe next week when the evenings are a bit lighter.

Meatballs are dead easy. I add an egg, chilli, oregano, garlic, worchestershire sauce, salt and pepper. You can mix up the herbs but you need plenty - don't be shy with the flavourings. Have never added breadcrumbs and never found it a problem.

Squish it all up, roll into balls (wet your hands first, it helps stop it sticking). Then put in the fridge for 30 mins to firm up. I tend to do mine in the oven in a decent slosh of oil but you could fry them too. By pre-cooking and then adding sauce, you get a better texture, I think.

Tortington · 24/03/2011 15:09

might try that - sounds yummy, have made beef meatballs and didn't like

krepsly · 24/03/2011 19:26

My name is Krepsly and I plead guilty to eating two enchiladas - with a carb content of 25g each Blush

But according to the ketostix I'm still in ketosis???? How soon would it show? anyone know?

FreeButtonBee · 24/03/2011 20:52

I am also de-wagoned. Just had crisps and have a gu choc souffle lined up for later. In my defence dh has been at work for 18 days in a row so i am a bit on the lonely side. Obv it's more shit for him but i miss him. He's working right through til at least thursday next week.

Timbachick · 24/03/2011 21:37

Krepsley - what are 'ketostix'?

sal - I can't touch the diet sodas ... they make me want to eat everything. I think it stimulates the sugar sensors which then go into overdrive trying to locate more sources of sugar ... which just leads to a downward spiral (at least for me). Safer for me to stay away entirely.

CointreauVersial · 24/03/2011 21:41

Timba - ketostix are those sticks you wee on which tell you if you're in ketosis or not. You get them on eBay apparently.

I'm on the vino, and seriously contemplating the box of chocs DH brought back from Nice (what was he thinking?)

Timbachick · 24/03/2011 22:09

Thanks CV. I will have a look at those sticks.

How far into the vino are you CV? If I delve too far into the bottle things like chocolates mysteriously leap into my mouth!!!! Shock A strange phenomenon that only occurs when the moon is waxing ... or waning ... or full ... or in eclipse ........ Grin

CointreauVersial · 24/03/2011 22:18

Only a couple of glasses down.....and four chocolates so far Blush

Timbachick · 24/03/2011 22:36

Are you an "all or nothing" kinda gal CV? If the answer is 'yep' then I think the chocs are goners ... hey, it could be worse ... it could be bread ShockShockShock Grin

Well done Orm. That's brilliant.

10 4 here today so a week of pretty much maintaining. Which is what I was expecting.

Aim is to stay on the bandwagon this weekend and see a 2 by the end of next week.

TOmorrow I am going to take out my summer clothes and have a bit of a trying on session. Hopefully, lots of stuff will fit much better. Might even get into a few old favourites which have been languishing in the cupboard for a few years.

Pilates on Sunday and I might (only might) go for a run on Saturday.

ExitPursuedByALamb · 25/03/2011 10:50

Hi All - can I join in? I gave up bread for lent, and then read the thread about the woman with the slim Spanish SIL and decide to go the whole hog and try to low carb. Doing OK, but I simply cannot give up my white wine in the evenings. Will that make the low carbing redundant?

I did the same a couple of years ago and lost loads of weight, but have put the whole bloody lot back on. Now need to lose weight for the sake of my knees.

Ormirian · 25/03/2011 10:57

Hi exit,

theoretically the white in is a Bad Thing! But i have wine quite often and I have just resigned myself to slow but usually steady weight loss.

ExitPursuedByALamb · 25/03/2011 10:59

SlowandSteady could be my new nickname - fits me perfectly.

FreeButtonBee · 25/03/2011 14:54

welcome Exit

I have lost almost a stone since Jan but certainly haven't given up the wine. I find I get tipsy much much quicker though. Which is a bonus!

I am a slackins-er - so have pretty much all veg apart from potato. I also eat lentils, occasional other pulses (like once or twice a week), sushi once a fortnight or so. It doesn't seem to have had a negative effect although my weightloss isn't as fast as some others. I like to think it's more likely to stay off this way.

ExitPursuedByALamb · 25/03/2011 14:59

Can anyone tell me if a bit of marie rose sauce on prawns is OK. And how many carbs are acceptable in a day.

I must say since I started 2 weeks ago I feel better and get full much quicker, but I had a bit of salad with some prawns and marie rose sauce for lunch and feel really stuffed now.

Oh Sal, sorry you had a bad day. Cremated chicken thighs was probably not the best thing to come home to.

I was working today (normally have Fridays off) but it was OK, and the lovely weather put a spring in my step.

Blueberries, greek yogurt and almonds for breakfast
Egg mayo and rocket for lunch
Nigella's Thai Crumbled Beef for tea (managed to buy the mince!)

DH phoned from the pub after work, so DD1 helpfully ate his portion of beef.

Off to bed shortly, and looking forward to a Grade A Lie-in tomorrow (knackered).

Hi Exit - welcome! There are no hard-and-fast figures on "carbs-per-day" - some people think you should stay below 20g, but not everyone does. I guess the level you choose will dictate how quickly the weight comes off.
