New Thread for Lo Carbers/non-carbers, etc

WhereamI · 07/02/2011 16:31

Old lo-carb thread was 'too big' and wouldn't let me post this. It's for a almond meal pancake - I find one is really filling (I have it with total yoghurt and blueberries) and leave the mix in the fridge to have another next day.

Ingredients:
?1 cup almond flour
?2 eggs
?1/4 cup water (for puffier pancakes, you can use sparkling water)
?2 T oil
?1/4 teaspoon salt
?1 T sweetener
Preparation:
Mix ingredients together and cook as you would other pancakes. I like to use a nonstick pan with a little oil. The only real difference is that they won't "bubble" on top the same way as regular pancakes. Flip them when the underside is brown.

Yield: Six 4-inch pancakes

Nutritional Information: Each pancake has 1 gram effective carbohydrate, plus 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 155 calories.

Sal, we're a right pair.....Grin

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/03/2011 08:49

Well day 1 went well. But then day 1 always goes well! Let's see how the rest of the week pans out ...

FreeButtonBee · 29/03/2011 09:33

Urgh. Well, the thing about cheating is that you pay for it. My guts are churning today. Horrible. Back on the wagon today.

10 4.75 on the scales so up a bit as well.

Right, time to get with the programme again people. What are the core things about eating this way that work for you? Let's get them back in the game.

I haven't been eating enough veg so I will be upping that today.

Also no where near enough water.

And far too much wine. sigh. Think I need to stop drinking on a school night. I was really good for Jan and have been not so slowly falling off that particular wagon since Feb.

Breakfast is a plain yog - I find that it does keep me pretty filled til lunch. Lunch is going to be a skinny burrito - tasty and lots of veg. I might need to include some gauc today to keep me from getting mid-avvo munchies.

Dinner is either smoked salmon salad or aubergine parmigiana, depending on whether I can be arsed to cook or not.

Let's do it people. I am going on holiday on Easter Monday and I want to be reliable under 10st by then. It's only 3lbs but if I keep cheating, it's just going to go the other way. Given that I am throwing out my fat clothes, that would NOT be good.

FellatioNelson · 29/03/2011 11:22

I'm having aubergine paremegiana tonight as well! With added bacon and onions and mozzarella. The best thing about it is it is great cold and can be sliced up and is easily portable. And I think some smoked salmon and cream cheese and celery for lunch.

I haven't weighed myself for about three weeks - I'm too scared. Shock
I'll wait until I've been good for a few days and then try otherwise I'll just depress myself. All my lovely size 12 clothes that I bought last year are straining at the seams. Sad

FellatioNelson · 29/03/2011 11:24

If you really cannot stay off the booze switch to vodka or gin and a slimline mixer rather than wine, and even then, don't go OTT. It won't really count as carbs, but it will stall you if you get too slack with it.

Ormirian · 29/03/2011 11:27

Hello

Not weighed myself since Friday but been quite good. We took the youngest 2 DC out for the day on Sunday and as usual found nothing to eat in the cafe so did without. I find I can do that without trouble while eating like this.

Ran 5 miles last night! Yes!! It nearly killed me and I had to stop to walk quite often but I still did it and enjoyed it because I was running somewhere lovely and spring is making the countryside interesting.

My employers are sabotaging my weight loss! We make and package fruit juice and fruit drinks. They keep badgering us to do taste tests. I just sipped the tiniest amt but it was so tempting to glug the whole lot back Grin

FreeButtonBee · 29/03/2011 12:33

Fellatio - re booze, I just need to cut it out. There's no need for it Monday to Thursday. I've just got into bad ahbits of drinking at home. Just need to do something less boring instead!

Bacon in the aub parm sounds lush! Am stealing that idea. ta

CointreauVersial · 29/03/2011 12:53

I agree, FBB, midweek drinking is a bad habit I've fallen into too! Not only is it empty carbs, but it makes me far more likely to attack the chocolate stash late at night.

Well done on the run, Orm! The good weather does put a spring in your step, doesn't it? I went out at 6.30 this morning and reckon I did about 3 miles or thereabouts (a bit like my carb-counting I can't be bothered with precision measurement!). I'm not allowed to stop, though.

Ormirian · 29/03/2011 14:57

Just checked on google maps and it was 5.72 to be precise Grin When I say stop, I mean walk rather than come to a dead halt and collapse with my hands on my knees! I know it's a bit daft to do the sort of distances I can't do without a rest but atm I can't run anywhere much without a rest and it is so motivating to get out of the same old streets into the countryside.

Makes me quite sad to think I was running that sort of distance regularly a year back without stopping at all and twice that distance at weekends. I will get there! I WILL!

Timbachick · 29/03/2011 15:20

Well done Orm - that is a really excellent distance. You are doing the right thing...slowing to a walk when you need to and running the rest of the time. Congrats to you. Now, I just need to bottle some of your motivation to exercise and I'll be fine Grin

Just put a chicken casserole in the oven for later tonight. Will cook polenta to go with it for the boys and celeriac for me...along with plenty of other veggies.

ExitPursuedByALamb · 29/03/2011 15:26

Lost a stone now since the beginning of Lent, so that is 3 weeks. Only another 4 stone to go Grin. Just bought a celeriac, this time I will do something with it rather than leave it in the fridge to go off.

So far today

An apple
2 boiled eggs
3 sticks of celery with Anchovy Paste
raw Cauliflower
slice of Edam
3 bits of artichoke.

Will be having a tuna salad for tea.

I find I can easily miss meals as I don't get as hungry (althgouh I am still on the wine - will try G&T tonight)

CointreauVersial · 29/03/2011 16:59

That reminds me - celery.

I've always considered it the devil's own salad item, and still wake up screaming at the memory of my mother's Corned Beef and Celery Casserole inflicted on me throughout the 1970s.

BUT - there isn't much else you can use if you want to scoop a big dollop of cream cheese/tuna mayo/egg mayo/pate is there? Iceberg/Cos lettuce I guess.....

Dare I give celery another go?

FreeButtonBee · 29/03/2011 17:03

Don't do it, it's evil.

I find a bit of crunchy lettuce is quite good. baby cos is nicest.

I have been branching out with my lettuce buying. Lambs lettuce is my ultimate favourite. But chinese lettuce also v good finely chopped in a mixed salad. also rocket with a nice dash of balsamic don't tell me I can't have it, olive oil and parmesan shavings.
