New Thread for Lo Carbers/non-carbers, etc

WhereamI · 07/02/2011 16:31

Old lo-carb thread was 'too big' and wouldn't let me post this. It's for a almond meal pancake - I find one is really filling (I have it with total yoghurt and blueberries) and leave the mix in the fridge to have another next day.

Ingredients:
?1 cup almond flour
?2 eggs
?1/4 cup water (for puffier pancakes, you can use sparkling water)
?2 T oil
?1/4 teaspoon salt
?1 T sweetener
Preparation:
Mix ingredients together and cook as you would other pancakes. I like to use a nonstick pan with a little oil. The only real difference is that they won't "bubble" on top the same way as regular pancakes. Flip them when the underside is brown.

Yield: Six 4-inch pancakes

Nutritional Information: Each pancake has 1 gram effective carbohydrate, plus 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 155 calories.

Sorry, Krepsly, egg and tomato is one of my least favourite combos - wrong, just wrong.Grin

But Heston's Waitrose steak recipe was lush, highly recommended. Not cheap, but if you wait til your DH is away on business, sunning himself in some posh hotel in Nice Envy then you only need to buy one steak......

Fellatio - are you going to the meet-up? I'm trying to decide whether to go.......

BecauseImWorthIt · 21/03/2011 22:53

Ooh yes CV, do come! I'm going too.

Have had a reasonable lc day today. Breakfast was 2 boiled eggs, lunch was some parma ham with cream cheese and a couple of chopped mini gherkins, then dinner was beef stew with mashed swede and a small portion of green beans/babysweetcorn/mangetout.

Ormirian · 22/03/2011 06:13

What meet-up?

Sorry krepsly - I can just about handle eggs if hard-boiled or so saturated with cheese I can't taste them..... Glad you enjoyed it though.

FellatioNelson · 22/03/2011 06:56

Yes, I'm going. It's in central London on Sat 21st May. I'll start another thread as lots of people don't seem to know it's happening.

krepsly · 22/03/2011 07:04

Right that's it, I'm going home and I'm taking my pizza omellette with me! Grin

No change in my weight this morning, still 10 6lb. I don't think it helps that I havn't been for a poo since last friday Hmm

Think I'm going to have to overdose on the lactolose today, no wonder I'm feeling groggy and bloated.

Good God. I thought beetroot was a diuretic but...jeeeeeezzzzzzzz. Blush

Perhaps CV and/or custy can advise but I thought beetroot was a good bet and an excellent plate filler??? Now, I have suffered with IBS for smoe years but since switching to lo-carbs/no-carbs have found the symptoms to be mild or indeed gone completely. Happy News!!!

However, I have just had 5 days from hell Grin, bathroom hell that is GrinBlush.

So, for the good of all I am posting a warning ... DO NOT OVERDO THE BEETROOT, IT WILL BITE YOU IN THE ARSE ... LITERALLY Grin

BecauseImWorthIt · 22/03/2011 09:24

Lots of carbs in beetroot, timba - so not a good thing to overdo anyway! I bet your loo was 'interesting' Grin

Morning all!

Orm - you must come to the meet up! Actually you must all come to the meet up.

I have always loved beetroot but no more .... the stomach cramps alone were enough to put me off but the rest .... .... it was "bloody" awful. Blush

Must say I didn't know the carbs were high in beets. That won't be an issue from now on though, oh no.

BIWI - I can't even express the horror of the loo Blush Grin

sal - I even told my DH that I could have been mistaken for someone bleeding to death.

Today is actually the first day I have felt somewhat normal since last Saturday ... no, not 3 days ago ... 10 days ago !!!! Shock

CointreauVersial · 22/03/2011 13:03

Grin at beetroot crisis! A friend's DH actually took himself off to casualty after a plate of beetroot because he thought he had somehow sustained a serious internal injury.

Asparagus wee is my main problem.....Blush....Pheeew!

No, Timba, beetroot is definitely not the best for a low-carber, nice though it is.

Krepsly - have you tried linseed/flaxseed? Good fibre if you're a bit....er....bunged up, and low-carb as it's seeds. You can make linseed muffins or pancakes; there were some recipes earlier in the thread, or in the previous one.

Timbachick · 22/03/2011 13:55

Ooooh, ooooh, ooooh - linseed/flaxseed muffins .... mmmmmmmm. Must find recipe Grin

LOL about your DH's friend CV Grin. Men always seem to get really stressed about the "repercussions" of eating beetroot Grin.

I love asparagus too ... have to avoid too much though. Asparagus wee would just be toooooo much after beetroot-gate. Smile

Popbiscuit · 22/03/2011 17:07

Hello; Newbie here! I've been reading your thread with interest after being glued to the "Spanish Lady" thread and now I'm intrigued. I'm making my way through all the old posts so apologies if anyone has touched on this but I'm wondering what people's thoughts are on having carbs just at breakfast? Say, toast with butter/marge or porridge with nuts? Does this negate the whole process of low carbing? What about snacks? How many and what type are recommended? I'm not looking to lose weight but rather maintain and I'm tired of being hungry all the time ( I exercise often) and thinking that maybe adding in more fat and cutting back on carbs is a better idea than what I'm doing currently. Also; anyone know the long term implications for health with this type of diet?

Any thoughts would be appreciated....

Been lurking on this thread, low-carbing for about 5 wks.

Popbiscuit, the thing is, the right breakfast will carry you through to lunch quite painlessly. If you have a good shot of protein first thing, without the carbs, it really has an amazing effect on your appetite. DH, who has been sucked into the low-carb vortex with me, has said that if he has eggs with toast for breakfast, he gets hungrier quicker than if he just has the eggs. It's counterintuitive, but it seems to work like this. Carbs in some way compromise the other stuff you eat; they are the things which give you the spikes and troughs.

Since I've been eating like this, my cravings have all but vanished.

Tortington · 22/03/2011 18:26

CointreauVersial · 22/03/2011 19:23

yy Custy! I can just see us all sat in a corner picking apart the vol-au-vents and moaning about the lack of Splenda for our coffee - NOT!!! Grin

FellatioNelson · 22/03/2011 19:39

Yes, I think as there is power in our numbers we can DEMAND to be catered for. Grin Then again, I've learnt from bitter experience that an evening on the lash whilst in ketosis and nibbling on low carb bits inevitably means falling over, crying, flirting with unsuitable men, over-sharing to strangers, and buying a Burger King and four Krispy Kreme donuts on the way home.

Sometimes, accepting that one will crash and burn is the best policy. Blush

BTW I hate Krispy Kreme Donuts but I thought they would make for a better anecdote. Grin
