July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

Am I the only one who finds the instructions overwhelming?

MammaGnomes · 08/07/2026 20:47

@Rainingcatsandog I watched a few YouTube videos as well which helped me

ChocolateIsBad · 08/07/2026 20:47

I was the same but watched a video on YouTube first although still followed the patient leaflet as YouTube video missed out a bit about tightening needle.

RedFatball · 08/07/2026 21:21

I found my first one overwhelming. Second one much easier!

MammaGnomes · 09/07/2026 07:27

I’ve weighed in early this week as im off to Palma for the day tomorrow and didnt want to be disheartened if it caused a gain. I’m also going to jab late. I usually jab Friday evening but will do it Saturday evening instead.

another 2lbs off total loss 4lb. Bit slower than I wanted but still it’s going in the right direction.

we’re going for a curry tonight for my nephews birthday and I’m really worried about what to eat. Especially with me being away tomorrow. I’ve had no side effects so far but I have stayed away from spicy and greasy foods

5ft7
SW 13st 4lb
CW 12st 13lb

BerfyTigot · 09/07/2026 07:54

@Rainingcatsandog yes, i found it a bit overwhelming. I think it's because it's so expensive and I didn't want to mess it up!

Forgot to add my stats:
Height: 169cm
SW: 113.7kg
GW: 87kg

ChocolateIsBad · 09/07/2026 07:55

2 pounds off week 1 - bit disappointed as thought it would be more but I guess it’s a start. Downwards and onwards!

missedtherainbow · 09/07/2026 09:59

I had a sneaky early weigh in.
had my first jab on Sunday.
My Starting weight was a whopping 253lbs and today I weighed 245lbs.
I will weigh again Sunday and then just stick to weighing Sundays.
Eating really well, lots of protein, fruit and vegetables. Feeling hopeful!

MammaGnomes · 09/07/2026 10:04

That’s amazing @missedtherainbow i bet your well chuffed.

like @ChocolateIsBad I only lost 2lbs my first week and felt a little disappointed but a loss is a loss and I’m hoping that by going slow I’ll have enough time make new eating habits stick. If I keep going like this ill be at goal by Christmas which I can live with

missedtherainbow · 09/07/2026 10:14

Totally agree a loss is a loss and it’s about creating different habits.
I am really pleased but I know it’s only quite a big amount because I have so much too lose and that other weeks it will be much less. I will be happy with any loss each week.
I’m having a total change of lifestyle. Sounds really silly but just little changes like using a nice moisturiser, taking vitamins, planning for the future and so on.
I think I just really haven’t liked myself for a long time and didn’t feel it was worth doing anything nice for myself. I’m giving myself little goals. As long as I keep losing weight then in September I’m going to the hairdressers for the first time in 2 years, I might even get my eyebrows done!
probably sounds silly but I am excited and feeling determined.

MammaGnomes · 09/07/2026 10:29

I love that @missedtherainbow such a brilliant idea. I think I’ll do the same. I really need to up my vitamin intake. I have them all but just fall out of the habit of taking them.

RedFatball · 09/07/2026 11:55

I've gone heavy on the supplements as well. No idea if it's helping but I feel more like the me I remember being in my 20's - combo of MJ, HRT and supplements seems to be doing the trick!

YourJollyGoose · 09/07/2026 11:58

@RedFatballme too with supplements, HRT and being in control of food. Now if only the weather would settle a bit cooler I can work on sleep and movement!!

VimtoPrincess · 09/07/2026 12:10

Hi everyone
I did my first jab last night at 6 pm. Slept ok and no side effects as yet but feel like the food noise is a bit quieter.
So far so good

LovelyLapin · 09/07/2026 14:22

Week 1 results:

SW 177.2lb BMI: 30.3
CW 172.8lb BMI 29.5

I’ve been low carb for years so this is a week of low carb and no snacks. I have added in two kiwis most days, upped my water (with sugar free elderflower squash!) and also started taking collagen powder. I don’t feel hungry at breakfast so I’m doing 16:8 fasting (apart from white coffee and then collagen powder at bedtime because it makes me feel nauseous).

BritbirdUK · 09/07/2026 16:52

How are we all doing in this hot weather? I have been wanting to eat constantly today (and yesterday) but am not actually hungry. I guess it shows that the food noise is still here.

@MammaGnomes I am out tonight as well - first time since I have started the jabs. It is an event and I had to pre-order my meal a long time ago. Luckily they let me change as I don't want to risk heavier/fattier foods.

Well done @LovelyLapin that is a great loss for the first week!

Not loving the heat. Find I can work in the mornings but the afternoons are a write off. Fortunately I work for myself. It’s going well for me. I feel like I’m eating like a normal person would. I was worried it wasn’t enough as had a couple of days of around 1000 cals but it averaged about 1350 which I can live with. Seem to be settling into the rhythm of a late breakfast, mid afternoon mini meal and dinner. Still determined not to weigh for a month but it’s tempting to have a sneak peek. Start my rehab programme tomorrow so will be interesting to see how exercise affects things.

RedFatball · 09/07/2026 18:16

Heat kicking my ass. But I am entirely unable to eat, which on the one hand is not great but does mean I've lost 2.5lbs this week...

BackontheMJtrain · 09/07/2026 18:44

Just drinking a lot, am not as hungry as usual so am relieved that after 3 times of starting at 2.5mg it is still effective.

Weigh in on Saturday

Wigwambam65 · 09/07/2026 18:48

I’ll move over to this group:

My MJ has just arrived - it’s in the fridge till I decide when to take it. I’ve a couple of questions if you don’t mind - I haven’t read the whole thread so apologies if this is covered already.
how long does it take to feel the effects? I work in an admin job towards the end of the week. Am thinking if I am going to feel a bit off I would rather that happened on the days I am at work.
Is there a better time of day to take it Ie morning/evening/just before bed ?
5’2”
Starting at 11st 7lbs
Would like to be 10st

I took a dose on Tuesday night and don’t feel up or down. Am quite focused though and making sure I am eating well.

ChocolateIsBad · 09/07/2026 20:10

I took my first dose at lunchtime, felt effects that evening and had nausea days 2-3. I don’t know if timing of dose really affects anything although if you’re asleep you may not notice as much but assumes the side effect resolves within hours.

I took my second dose this morning and don’t feel any different. As to location of injection, I think the company has to show there is no difference between site of administration.

I did thigh for the first dose and abdomen today. Will be interesting if I get any nausea, hopefully not.

hussherbye · 09/07/2026 21:41

After such a positive start I’ve found the last 24hours really tricky- combination of some bad news plus late nights at work have meant I haven’t been able to plan my food quite so well and have slipped back into drinking more, although still less than I would previously. Tiredness and stress has been my downfall in the past so I really need to address this, just not sure how

Edinvillian · 09/07/2026 21:50

Nowimhereandimlost · 08/07/2026 13:17

I just made a Greek salad for lunch and lost interest halfway through. This has NEVER HAPPENED before. It's nuts!

I wasn't sure if it was working but it definitely is. I'm on my period and I wonder if because of that I'm having a slightly weird first week. Some symptoms I got (headache, ocular migraine, mild stomach pain) could easily be period related.

I do still feel a bit shaky, usually that's a sign that I'm ravenously hungry, but I feel full. So I'm still eating, just a bit less. It's so much easier you make better choices. I'm trying to be realistic though and if I fancy a square of chocolate, I'll have one. But I can now very easily leave it at that. Pure sorcery.

I'd love a Bolt code!

Edited

I’ve messaged you x

BerfyTigot · 09/07/2026 21:57

@ChocolateIsBad 2lbs is a good start! You may have a much better week 2 as your body adjusts 🤞

@missedtherainbow @LovelyLapin @RedFatball fab results!!

@BackontheMJtrain really pleased to hear that you're having good results on another attempt. I'm on my 2nd go and really hoping it's as good (but without the side effects)

minnymoobear · 09/07/2026 23:53

scales not moved yet for me, and not really feeling any big suppression but am making better choices.

Unplanned day out today, had overnight weetabix for brekkie at around 9am, lunch out around 3.30 which was an omlette, potatoes, salad and tea (old me would have had a burger and chips)
Dinner at a friends - home cooked food so I ate more of the meat and salad and said no to bread etc

Hopefully can keep making better food choices, stick to exercise etc - went swimming yesterday and will go tomorrow and not much exercise today at all, lots of sitting around chatting with my friend
