July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

Ugh. I wrote a message and page crashed and it all went. I thought the draft might save but sadly not.

So I survived my first meal out with a set menu. I mentioned I changed my choices to go a bit healthier just before I started jabbing. Unfortunately there was a mix up and although the restaurant confirmed the change, they were working off another list and ended up bringing me my old meal. For all 3 courses (it was a big group!). Old me would've polished off one full meal and at least part of the other. This time I left around 1/4 of my starter (hummous and flatbread) ate most of my main (chicken skewer with rice) and then most of my dessert (ice cream and bakklava) I shouldn't have eaten as much as I did and felt too full after but my brain was just saying "it is really nice, don't stop" I think I made far better choices than I would have done normally so I was pleased with that and hopefully next time it will be better.

I also weighed in this morning. Was nervous. Even though I have been "good" all week, I was scared that last night had ruined it all. I need to get out of that mindset but it isn't always as simple. But I lost just under 8lb. That brings my WL to 1 stone 5 in 2 weeks. I am pretty pleased with that to say the least. Again, I know it won't carry on like this, but it is nice to have that initial loss as that really motivates me.

That’s a brilliant weight loss well done!
I think it’s the small changes that soon build up to bigger longer changes.

BerfyTigot · 10/07/2026 12:50

OMG @BritbirdUK what a fantastic loss!! 👏 And good to know that you managed it while still enjoying a meal out. I can only dream...😁

Puddleduck2013 · 10/07/2026 13:27

I’ve did my 2nd injection this morning but I’m not sure I’ve done it correctly? Twisted pen to the 1 but didn’t look like any liquid was there?

BettinaBumblebee · 10/07/2026 13:57

Wow @BritbirdUK Bloody well done!! What a terrific start.

RedFatball · 10/07/2026 14:17

That's an amazing loss @BritbirdUK!

sadly I have to add falafel to the list of foods that set my stomach off...

BerfyTigot · 10/07/2026 14:28

Did you prime the pen first and get a little drop out? If so it should be ok. @Puddleduck2013

@RedFatball oh no! I've just batch cooked a load!!

Struggling a bit this afternoon- not hungry but feel like picking 😡

Frolie · 10/07/2026 14:32

I developed a cough and sore throat on the first day and it’s getting worse 🙄 Has anyone else experienced this as a side effect?

I had to go to a family curry last night! I managed two pieces of Tandoori chicken, and a spoon of rice! Couldn’t stomach anything more. Luckily my son ate the rest of my chicken and no one noticed! Only my husband knows I’m on MJ.

BritbirdUK · 10/07/2026 15:17

Thank you all.

@RedFatball noo. that is so frustrating :-(

@Frolie I had a sore throat and cough for the first few days too. It was fine after that though.

@BerfyTigot. Do I have to prime for every shot?

BerfyTigot · 10/07/2026 15:44

Yes, it just checks that the pen is working @Puddleduck2013

Puddleduck2013 · 10/07/2026 16:16

😩 no idea if I’ve done it properly

Puddleduck2013 · 10/07/2026 16:18

Did get a strange sort of metallic taste in my mouth after so assumed ok

RedFatball · 10/07/2026 16:34

I really like falafel as well. Boooo.

with the heat and lack of appetite and stomach being a little bitch, I am mostly living on Huel, eggs and yogurt. Hopefully it will pass when the weather lets up

Nowimhereandimlost · 10/07/2026 16:47

Wow @BritbirdUK that's an insane loss!

My suppression seems to be getting stronger as the week goes on (or maybe I'm just getting used to smaller amounts of food?). Disinterested in food for the past two days. The only way I know I'm hungry is because I get light headed and shaky, so I eat. I boiled some eggs and put them in the fridge as an easy protein snack. I went out for dinner last night and was worried the jabs would spoil it - not at all, I really enjoyed the meal but stuck to meat, fish and veg. Two glasses of wine which went straight to my head.
No side effects really apart from the light headedness. Second jab and weigh in tomorrow!

Nomorepants · 10/07/2026 19:06

I am wondering (no judgement) if those with bigger WL are making really big changes to their daily intake.

I already skip breakfast, have salad for lunch, black tea & coffee, then home made dinner. Don’t snack during the day. Don’t drink much. Worst sin is an inability to stop with chocolate/ biscuits. So try to avoid but weekends bit of a downfall. So that and too big portion sizes definitely my issue.

I wouldn’t say I’ve noticed that my eating habits have changed much - not much suppression - trying to avoid chocolate / sugar (mixed success).

WL has been slow but going in the right direction but very slowly. I am wondering if the loss has been less than for some as generally my diet isn’t too bad (but am very short so basically don’t need much).

Whereas my friend who started the same time is decelerating much faster. But has dropped a number of v bad habits (daily big bag of crisps / daily post dinner snacks etc.).

Again zero judgement. Just curious. And also curious if I need to up my dose to get better suppression.

Kabloom · 10/07/2026 19:10

Amazing losses @BritbirdUK you must be delighted. So tempted to weigh but sticking to once a month.

Struggling to eat enough today too. Went to my rehab exercise programme which was okay. I was really worried that wouldn’t be able to get up off the floor but I managed it and there were others in the same situation. I think it’s going to be really helpful. I hadn’t eaten before but had some salad and prawns when I came back and then yogurt and strawberries. I don’t feel like much now but will have a snack of something. Maybe some seeded crackers and cottage cheese.

I think I’d probably feel great if the weather would break and I could sleep easier but I have a lovely quiet weekend for the first time in ages so going to enjoy pleasing myself.

Octnec · 10/07/2026 20:09

Wow @BritbirdUK amazing loss, well done!

@RedFatball do you mind me what supplements you are taking please?

I FINALLY took my first jab this morning! It was lost in transit twice… then was unwell and decided to wait until today.

How quickly did you all feel the effects of suppressed appetite and food noise quieting? I’m not sure if it’s all in my head but I’ve had no food noise whatsoever today which is a strange feeling.

I felt nauseous after eating my dinner which wasn’t ideal. I had a HG pregnancy and think I’ve got a bit of trauma surrounding nausea and being sick which I didn’t realise until today!

BerfyTigot · 10/07/2026 21:18

I felt that yesterday I had very little appetite but today I think i was only just slightly more in control than pre MJ.

I'm struggling with portion sizes. How do I know how much to eat to lose weight? I'm cooking from scratch so no manufacturer's portion guides.

A therapist once told me that i shouldn't let myself get too hungry as then I'd binge. But I presume I need to be hungry (while waiting for the drug to be effective) in order to lose weight.

I've been overweight so long that I don't know what a reasonable portion is.

RedUn · 10/07/2026 22:26

Hi @BerfyTigot I'm using MyFitnessPal to log everything with goals set for calorie intake and the split for carbs/fat/protein. When I make food from scratch, which is most meals for me, I create a meal on the app by weighing all ingredients....this can be a bit tedious but for me it's worth it so I know how much of a given meal I can eat.

So relatable

Flobberworm99 · 11/07/2026 08:10

Have just taken my first jab, was very nervous about injecting myself and kept watching the videos over and over. In the end it was surprisingly easy and not painful at all! I was definitely overthinking it.

How long did the effects or even side effects kick in for everyone?

Had already started making changes to my diet bar a meal out with work last night so I am 1lb down from when I ordered the pen.

Planning to do a strength workout this morning although I do wish this heat would die down. It is tortuous to exercise when it's this hot.

H: 4'11"
CW: 9st 9lbs

Target to lose is minimum 18lbs.

BerfyTigot · 11/07/2026 08:21

@Flobberworm99 around 36 hours for me. Though much better this time since avoiding ultra processed foods. Good luck 🤞

RedFatball · 11/07/2026 09:16

@Octnec I am taking the Nutrition Geeks menopause bundle which is Lions Mane, Ashwaganda, Turmeric and Magnesium. Then psyllium husk for extra fibre and an iron supplement

VimtoPrincess · 11/07/2026 11:01

I took my 1st dose on Wednesday at 6 pm and the morning after my appetite was supressed. When I think of all the things I would enjoy eating I just feel a bit "meh"
No other side effects apart from I haven't had a poo.
Not sure if I should leave it or get something from chemist?
So far so good but I cant wait to start seeing results.
