July 2026 Mounjaro starters

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

A question - how do people manage to hit both protein and fibre goals? I sometimes get to 60-70g protein, which is under, but not terrible

I don't, but I do try. Like you I manage to get to 60/70g, after that I just try to cram in a glass of milk or something. Fed up of protein yogurts, fed up of protein drinks. Really fed up of protein bars. So I eat fish, fish then a bit more fish.
Tricky innit?

Morning all.

Weigh in day for me. I have been jabbing now since the end of June. 4 weeks on 2.5, then I do my last dose of 5 today (2 pens) I made the decision, although I am losing still, to move up to 7.5. I definitely feel like I made a mistake going from 2.5 to 5 after just one month as 5 just hasn't felt right for me. I have struggled to get rid of the food noise and am obsessing over food again. I feel hungry quite a bit but when I have eaten I have got full really quickly even though I am still hungry. Through choice I have constantly eaten healthy food but still, just because it is healthy, doesn't mean I can eat unlimited. I will be interested to see how I get on with 7.5 as a few people I know have said it was the one that worked well for them. Whatever, I am sticking with it for 2 pens minimum.

Today I actually weighed myself twice as I couldn't believe the loss over the past week. I don't think I have eaten any differently to other weeks and obviously there is always going to be a difference based on cycles, but I lost 8.4lbs bringing my total loss to 4 stone 3lbs. There is still a very long way to go for me but it honestly is changing my life and I feel so much better in so many ways.

Can I ask, why did you move up to 5 if you were still losing and if 5 wasn't agreeing with you, why you moved up to 7.5? Just curious. I'm on 2.5 and have ordered the same again. It's a slow pace but hoping I haven't made a mistake and should have ordered the 5 instead!

AgedPudding · 12/09/2026 00:15

Just about to start my third 2.5mg pen. Same thoughts as you, I'm losing at a slow pace but I'm definitely losing. I don't think it hurts to let your body get more used to it before upping the dose. Will def do 5 next time.

I moved up from 2.5 to 5 because of food noise and not feeling satiated. I was still losing so I could've stayed on it but I was told that if I still had a lot of noise then even if losing I should move up. So I did. And then 5 straight away just didn't feel right for me. I don't know why but it had no impact on the noise. So I gace it a chance by doing a 2nd pen and it didn't change. Does that make sense? I think it is down to what you want to do personally. If 2.5 is working for you and you are losing then stay with it but for me I found there was too much noise.

Another 2lb loss for me this week. I might go back up to 5mg this evening or maybe another week of 3.3mg.
SW 13st 12lbs
CW 12st 2lbs
I had my first jab on the 18th July so would love to make it 2st in 2 months and see 11st for the first time in years!

Hello there 👋
A complete newbie here!
I'm on my first week. So motivating to read all success stories.
I've been emotionally eating for the last 8 years. Managed do be on a diet once and lost almost 3st. I've put all this back on due to various stresses in life in 2023. Life is much better now but I can't seem to shift the weight back to normal. I feel like I've been on a constant diet for the last three years and nothing changes. I've been going to gym too. Finally plucked up the courage and ordered first munjaro pen a few days ago. I just can't stand the thought of next winter in tight jackets- I keep telling myself I don't need new ones, size 10 will do, so most of them are quite tight fitting. Still keep all my size 8 stuff hoping that one day I will be back there. I dream of wearing dresses and leggings again (typical pear shape🤦‍♀️)

So I'm 5ft4 (1.58m)
Starting weight: 12.2st (77.6kg)
Goal weight: 9st (57kg)

Im on day 3. I love the feeling of not carving food, I can have a cake, sweeties at home and not eat any of it. No side effects other than a sessitive skin and slight muscle pain on day 1, all gone by day 2.

CatMonj · 13/09/2026 09:16

Well done on taking the first step. Good luck in your journey. You will find this group helpful for everyone's experience a couple of months ahead of you. There is likely a September starters group where you will find people at the same stage as you, which you may find helpful too.

3.5 weeks and not a single pound lost. So hard to keep strong during the plateau. Been tracking ever kcal and defo eating 1100-1300cal max a day, walking 10,000 steps 5 times a week and weight training 2 times a week.

Only thing I struggle with is water and drinking enough

So sorry to hear this and hope you see a change soon. I’m a slow loser and generally keep calories to under 1000 per day. I know that’s not healthy but it’s the only way I lose. I don’t exercise but should start.

definitely try and up your water intake. It really does help. I have water next to me all day.

haven you taken measurements? You’re maybe losing fat but gaining muscle which would explain the scales not moving.

Oh bless you it is SO frustrating. I was eating 800kcal initially and then thought maybe the losses stopped as too low - lots recommended go higher hence im trialling a little more.
It is beyond aggravating!

How are you getting on? What week are you on etc?

I’m on week 7 and have lost 1.5 stone since beginning of June. I was dieting at the start without Mounjaro and started at the end of July. It certainly makes it easier but still slow. As long as it keeps coming off it will be fine.

purplepie1 · 14/09/2026 10:13

Weigh in day today - 1.8 lbs loss this week. Slow but steady.
12.8 lbs off since starting MJ.
SW 14st
CW 13st 1.2 lbs
GW 12 st

As I mentioned before I started dieting before Mounjaro and have now lost a total of 1 st 8.8 lbs.

AgedPudding · 14/09/2026 20:21

3.5 weeks and not a single pound lost

I hear you. Going painfully slowly here too. Still, so long as it's not going up something must happen eventually. I'm not eating half of what I would have done without mj so I can't understand why so slow.

AgedPudding · 14/09/2026 20:25

It certainly makes it easier but still slow

I find the same. No massive weight losses weekly, but much easier to resist all those little snacks.

RedFatball · 14/09/2026 22:11

Plodding along here - another run today, 3.75km. I did have to walk two very short bits to catch my breath as it was so bloody warm! What was that all about?!

I'm still taking 3.3mg from a 5mg pen and losing about 1.5-2lbs a week. New pen day tomorrow and I think I'm going to carry on with that, as it seems to be doing the trick.

I'm finding it harder to motivate myself to exercise the last few days, but this evening I was determined I was DOING the run and I did (following a C25k plan so at least I don't have to think about it...)

RedUn · 15/09/2026 10:30

Well done on the exercise @RedFatball, I really need to up my game on that front.

Jab day no.12 for me and I think I've messed up on measuring, didn't have enough from old pen so drew some down from new pen too but still probably haven't given myself enough...heyho, back to 'proper' needles next week so will be more accurate.
I've recovered from the 2.2lb gain from my holiday and lost a bit extra, very pleased with that bringing total loss now over 11 weeks to 23.2lb. I'm probably at the half way mark now or maybe a bit passed it, depending on where I decide to stop.
I think I will need to keep an eye on myself this week as the level on MJ in my system is possibly going to be a bit low because of my mistake with today's jab.

BerfyTigot · 16/09/2026 11:12

@RedUn I did that too this week! Just about to jab again normally. Hopefully we both get the right amount this week.

Good news to report from this week's weigh in! I'm down 1kg- finally the scales have moved and I'm just over 10kg down in total.

SW 113.7 kg
CW 103.0 kg
GW 79 kg
Next mini goal is to get to 102.3 kg which will take me to 10% of my start weight.

Well done to everyone, love reading all your updates 👏

RedUn · 16/09/2026 12:11

Let's hope so 🤞🏼😊 @BerfyTigot, pleased that you have had a loss this week and congrats on over 10kg down 👏🏼

BerfyTigot · 16/09/2026 12:13

Thank you! Finally some motivation to keep going @RedUn

People are starting to notice my weight loss now and I know they mean well but I’m finding it upsetting. They keep congratulating me on my weight loss and tell me how well I’m looking. I’m reading between the lines that my weight gain had been a shame and a moral failing.

I sort of get what you mean, I’ve lost just over 3st so far.
No body has commented but I don’t really see many people and I still have a lot to lose but I get moments where I feel angry and ashamed of myself for having so much weight to lose instead of focusing on how much I’ve lost so far.
I didn’t think losing weight would be so emotional .
I know it’s much easier said than done but try to focus on how well you are doing now and try not to look too deep into any comments others make.
Look at how many people are on these weight loss threads, we have all struggled/are struggling with our weight would you judge everyone as having a moral failing? I doubt it so don’t be so hard on yourself. X

Having lost weight in the past, I totally get it . 'Don't ever put that weight back on, you look so much better now'.

I know that I often say well done to people when I know they are working towards trying to achieve something, whether it's them working on something for themselves or their home or job, anything. I offer them congratulations as a sincere feeling of being pleased for them that they are putting effort in and achieving results, it's not judgement from me it's encouragement and support. I have said well done on here to people because I am pleased for them because they are achieving their goals whether it be weightloss, doing more exercise or eating more fibre.
