July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

5 is brilliant, glad things are moving in the right direction!

I am still heavier than I was last week!!! 16st 5. I know I shouldnt complain as averaged out thats still over a stone in 3 weeks but now im panicking I am putting weight on!

Decided to increase from 2 to 2.5mg yesterday and will stick to it for 3 weeks and then increase to 3mg

BritbirdUK · 06/08/2026 08:53

@MammaGnomes we don't have any holidays booked but I have a friend who is jabbing and she just came back from 2 weeks away and is off again next week to the US which is definitely difficult for eating although they do cater for doggy bags!

After chatting with her I have decided that when I do next go away I am going to carry on jabbing. Holidays (and we normally do one luxury AI a year) are one of the times where I will overeat. Lounge with free food and drink at the start, flight where you are offered drinks and more food constantly, then when you arrive tonnes of great food. I discussed with my husband and we said next time we go we will do something a bit different and just do B&B. We can grab some fruit from the buffet in the morning to snack on and really we only eat lunch because we feel like we should not because we need to. He likes drinking beer at the pool bar but I could quite easily drink water and not touch alcohol the whole trip. Then, if we are not AI, going for dinner can be more controlled - no starters (or shared), healthier choices on mains and sharing desserts. Then hopefully, in a few years when I am at target and a healthy weight, I can manage an AI in a more sensible way.

So I guess I am saying maybe consider jabbing as you can still enjoy uyourself but it might help you in terms of not going all out like you might do.

6th jab today (2.5mg). 1 pound off this week; little disappointed but that’s life and I am worried about losing muscle, hair etc so I suppose it’s not so bad. 12 pounds off overall.

Someone upstream managed to force the dial round to get a last dose out. You might need to scroll a bit to find it.

I managed to force mine round. It wasn’t really hard to be honest, just kept turning it until it became tough then kept going. Didn’t even need pliers and I’m a bit of a weed 🤣
If anyone would like a Bolt code for £40 off then let me know, I get £40 too. If not then I’m going to move suppliers next month.

Wigwambam65 · 06/08/2026 10:08

I forced mine round so much that the plunger part was disconnected 😳

I managed to get 0.6ml into the insulin syringe so used that last night. I will see how it goes but think I’ll just stick with the 2.5 for the next 4 doses.

Edinvillian · 06/08/2026 10:13

Just realised my code is for £60 off and not £40. That’s a better deal than I got when I signed up.

Beadley · 06/08/2026 13:13

I managed to extract the ‘golden dose’ last night. I found a video online that explained very clearly how to do it. It was easy. I’m pleased to have saved some money! 😊

I’ve been on holiday for the past three weeks and took my pen wrapped inside a chilled gel facemake inside a Stanley flask. I put it in the fridge once we had arrived at our mobile home (20hours or so later and it was still cool.)

I’ve lost 10lbs in 4 weeks. I can’t see it in my clothes yet but feel like my forehead wrinkles are definitely worse. It will be just like me to deal with my weight and then develop a paranoia over my wizened face! I’m 45 and my fat face was very smooth and unlined. Oh well something had to give 🤷‍♀️

Cheesecake53 · 06/08/2026 13:20

@Beadley could you post the video? I plan to extract the fifth dose too.

Beadley · 06/08/2026 13:59

This is the video I used.

I’m not sure if he mentions it but if he doesn’t, when jabbing you might need to go in at a 45degree angle as the needle is slightly longer than the one you fit to the pen.

Thanks @Beadley and congratulations to your losses!

AgedPudding · 06/08/2026 19:35

Just ordered my second pen. I couldn't decide whether to stay on 2.5 or move up to 5. Decided on 5 then last minute chickened out and stayed with 2.5.

Although I've lost 9lb so far, I have been getting hungry most days, but managing to resist temptation. (Which would never have happened before!)

Will somebody tell me I've done the right thing so I can stop torturing myself.
Thanks in advance :)

ChocolateIsBad · 06/08/2026 20:42

If you’re getting hungry most days, then you need more suppression. Maybe check and see if you can change your order.

hussherbye · 06/08/2026 23:57

12lbs down so far part way through week 6. I jabbed today- usually Wednesday but I’ve gone an extra day this week, then I’ll do an extra day next week too which will be the day before we go on holiday for a week. I did think that injecting every 8 days would be a good way to make it go a bit further too, might consider keeping it going. Would really like to get to a stone off before we go, so another 2lb in a week 🤞

FishersGate · 07/08/2026 08:38

2.5lbs off this week so 5lbs off in two weeks. It feels a lot but it seems so little compared to everyone esles losses especially when I have about 3.5 stone to lose!

3rd jab day today hopefully it stays not to bad like last week

Good luck everyone for the coming week

MammaGnomes · 07/08/2026 08:50

Weighday today and another 1lb off so have finally reached my 1 stone off mark. Very happy with that as I was expecting no change to the scales today.
I came on my period yesterday my first in 13 years. I had been on the Depo injection but came off it in December last year. I’ve been expecting it but I don’t think it’s coincidence that I have started MJ and my periods have come. Great timing too as we fly out on holiday on Sunday.

my usual jab day is today. But I’m going to skip it. I’ve been toying with what to do and what not to do for weeks now but I’m so worried I’ll be poorly on holiday. We are going to Egypt and the risk is already high and especially with a period thrown in the mix I don’t want to increase the risk with MJ too.

we stayed all inclusive when we got married a couple of years ago and I managed to make good choices that holiday (through fear of not fitting in my dress) so I’m hoping to chanel that this time and also hope that there will still be enough in my system to keep my appetite at bay. I expect I’ll probably put a couple of pounds on but I’ll deal with that when I’m back.

good luck to those weighing today and well done to everyone for another week closer to goal

LivelyCyanPombear · 07/08/2026 08:58

Jabbed last night instead of Wednesday as I am going on holiday a week today. I am going to jab the night before and then the day we come back to avoid having to bring the pen. Sticking with 2.5mg so hopefully while I am away I won't have loads of issues.

Happy with my weight loss though! Just sad that I am fat on holiday and wish I had done this a lot earlier.

Another 6lb off today. I definitely wasn't expecting it as I have been feeling it a bit more this week and thought I had, although I have mad healthy choices, eaten more. But clearly whatever happened it worked. That brings my total loss to 2 stone 10lbs in 6 weeks. Jab day today and requesting my next pen. I will be sticking to 5 as I doubt my doctor will let me go up a dose with this level of loss even if I am a bit hungry at times!

@BritbirdUK your loss is incredible!

There are lots of great updates above - well done everyone.

I have lost 4lb this week, making a total of 10lb loss in three weeks:
W1 2.5mg 6lb loss
W2 no jab no loss
W3 40 clicks 4lb loss

I have felt a lot better on the 2/3 dose than on the full dose. I still have a bit of brain fog, but it feels like a combination of a slight hangover plus glasses slightly the wrong prescription, rather than tiredness and wading through treacle [if any of that makes sense!]

Because I work in drug discovery/development and because I'm extremely nerdy, I did a bit of PK modelling to try to work out what dose to take today and it seems that 35 clicks would give me the same peak as W3 (still lower than W1), so I'm planning to try that and see how it goes!

BritbirdUK · 07/08/2026 12:48

@BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation thank you. I honestly don't know why it is so high each week. I am averaging around 1200 calories according to MFP so definitely not going too low. But I do have a lot to lose and I think that will have a big impact.

That is a great loss too - well done!

I jabbed for the second time last night. Still no side effects, and not much appetite suppression either. I was hoping that I would be one of those people who reacts to a low dose, but alas, this does not seem to be the case. I dud lose weight, but hard to know if it was just a natural fluctuation due to water, etc. early days still.

1200 is about as low as you want to go I think. I'm averaging about 1500-1600 and have a steady 2-3lb loss per week now. I'm 5'9 though so possibly have a higher background requirement.

I hit BMI of 30 today. So I am only overweight now, rather than obese which is amazing!

ReneBallard · 07/08/2026 16:28

So, I have discovered that mini twisters are only 43 calories. Not saying should shovel one down routinely but to not feel I’m missing out when it’s hot and the kids have 57 ice creams a day, I can at least know one of those should not tip the scales

LovelyLapin · 07/08/2026 18:09

No real loss for me since 26/7 (0.2lb) but I’ve managed a holiday and lots of meals out in between so I’ll take that as a win!

Back to plan since we got home Wed morning. A week until my next holiday so hoping to get down a bit further before then.

Injected dose 6 of 2.5mg yesterday. I will get 4 more doses from this pen (5 from pen 1 with golden dose). Then I will move onto a 5mg pen but build up very slowly from 2.5mg.

MamaK19 · 07/08/2026 21:41

Anyone else with MedExpress? I’m about to place my second order but it is so insanely expensive and I can’t find an existing user code not sure if it’s easy to just switch to a different provider if I can’t find anything to bring the price down a bit
