July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

4 week weigh in today.

SW 113.7kg
CW 104.7kg

9kg in 28 days! I've got a lot to lose and have spent about a third of this time struggling to eat, so not that surprising, but I'm pleased with it!

Staying on 1.25mg for now.

Fantastic loss!

ReneBallard · 04/08/2026 09:25

@DaringlyDizzy ive told my parents but my mum gave me short shrift and then we got into an argument with me saying im almost 50 so can make my own choices!! I’ve told my husband (obvs) and my best friend who I know won’t judge or gossip but keeping it to myself other than that.,

@Buzzyfeeder this is a great loss!

I jabbed Friday night and felt really sick on waking this morning with a bit of acid reflux in the night. Protein shake seems to have helped but I am generally not hungry or eating much less (mainly not snacking). I had 3 small squares of dairy milk last night after dinner and found I was happy to leave it there.

missedtherainbow · 04/08/2026 09:29

I haven’t told anyone. I’ve got the pen hidden at the bottom of my youngest’s constipation medicine in the fridge! The only place safe from 3 adult kids, 2 teens, youngest and husband.
I have no intention of telling anyone at least not yet.
I find it quite encouraging that it’s just my secret. With a house full it’s probably the only thing I have control over and to myself.
Ive got 7 stone left to lose. On my 5th jab at 2.5, started at 18.1stone and this morning 16.8stone.
I’ve been struggling to eat but I’m trying halving portions and having more often also not drinking 30min before eating or during meal times.

AgedPudding · 04/08/2026 09:47

How’s everyone doing on the 2.5 still? I decided to stay on it for my next pen

Likewise, I have decided to stay on 2.5. Although hunger sometimes rears its ugly head, I'm finding it much easier to resist. 2.5 seems to be just taking the edge off extreme snack urges so I think currently I'm needing very little willpower.
The moment I find it a struggle I will think about going up a dose. I've lost 9lbs in two weeks and I actually don't want to go on at that rate. It's just a case of watching and waiting isn't it?

AgedPudding · 04/08/2026 09:51

Is anyone keeping it fully secret from their immediate family?

My husband and kids know and they are sworn to secrecy. Nobody else knows.
It's bound to get out though. Nowadays it's the first conclusion people come to when someone loses weight (in my experience)

BerfyTigot · 04/08/2026 11:35

Yes, I think that once people start noticing they automatically think jabs.

Last time I tried it I didn't tell anyone. This time my husband knows and is supportive of me getting to grips with something that has plagued me my entire adult life.

RedUn · 04/08/2026 11:54

Morning All, I've just had my 6th jab (5 from 2.5mg) and my weightloss in those 5 weeks is a smidge under 15lb. I'm very pleased with that especially as it was from the 1 pen.

I've moved onto the 5mg pen but have given myself a 3.5mg dose. I felt as though I needed more than the 2.5mg not because my weightloss has stopped (it's been fairly consistent) but because of the increased food noise and hunger creeping in more and more....at the end of the day for me that will be the thing that stops the weightloss the temptation to sway away from the foods that are working. I have taken the 3.5mg to see how my body reacts to the increase. I am continuing with a flexible approach (I've changed my mind several times over the past 5 weeks but I'm fine with that as I want to do what I think best at that time not stick to a rigid plan that may not be working for me)

Still got another couple of stone to go and have a week away in September and life just being different from week to week I'm not sure how long it's going to take but I'm hoping that I can stay the distance. Seeing how you are all doing continues to help me, so thanks for sharing. For those of you who started later in the month I would say the earlier parts of the thread have lots of tips about dealing with some of the more common side effects.

Well done to everyone for the progress so far and good luck going forward.

P.S. still struggling to get enough protein (doing eggs, chicken, tuna, yoghurts, I also take collagen powder) so have bought some Nature Valley protein bars which are 10g of protein but also 196 calories....but I've just discovered that cannellini are protein rich so these will now be going in everything 😆

I haven’t told a soul … I’ve nearly mentioned it to my husband a couple of times but just never.

I lost 1lb this week. I’m happy with that - my current weight is 11st 2lbs and I’ll be happy with another 8 or so pounds off.

I halved my 2.5 dose last week and felt much better. Appetite still suppressed but not so much nausea. Definitely felt more like eating something at least. I’m going to do the same this week to finish the pen and then start my new one. Will start that at 2.5 and see how it goes. I think that will be it for me after the next pen but we will see.

LivelyCyanPombear · 04/08/2026 13:07

Just my husband knows and is very supportive. He did say something like "but when you've lost loads of weight you'll have to explain then right" and I said ummm no. I don't need to explain anything to anyone!

Buzzyfeeder · 04/08/2026 16:22

No one knows in my house at all. The fridge is not a safe space so I have to time the delivery with my schedule for injecting so I can then keep the pen out of the fridge using it straight from delivery! Logistics required to hold the secret in this house.

My husband knows but the kids don’t.

I’ve hidden ours in the fridge. I put some cosmetic products and gel face masks in a zip lock bag. I don’t think any of them will oh any heed.

So many typos sorry. I mean I hid my MJ pen in the fridge and I don’t think any of them will pay it any attention.

JuicyPie · 04/08/2026 16:51

My husband knows, plus my sister (sworn to secrecy) and best mate (also on MJ) I dont feel the need to tell anyone else and I know my mum would give me an ear full 🙄
Finding it hard being away camping as all the normal foods we would eat are upsetting my tummy! Will be interesting to see what my weight does this week.

Margrethe · 04/08/2026 17:07

I am not sure that anyone should feel ashamed. I’ve lost significant amounts of weight twice.

Its not easy, and I have already proven that I have grit and will power. This third time, I’d rather not suffer so much. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course, we are all entitled to our privacy!

missedtherainbow · 04/08/2026 18:18

I think the biggest realisation so far for me has been that before starting the jabs I ate an awful lot out of boredom especially in the evenings.
I’m not sure what to do with myself most evenings, going to have to find a hobby!
I’ve also realised how lonely I feel, the youngest is in bed early and the older kids are all doing their own thing, exactly as it should be but I need to find something to do 🤔

RedFatball · 04/08/2026 18:51

My husband knows but not the kids. It's hidden in a garlic paste box in the fridge.

I'm counting clicks from a 5mg pen as 2.5mg wasn't quite enough but 5mg felt like too big a jump, so I am hoping to get 6 x 3.3mg doses (40 clicks) from this pen. I had to buy some additional needles, but they are easy to get hold of. With Bolt I can order every 6 weeks so that seems to be working well for me at the moment.

Jabbed and weighed this morning to find I am 1lb away from just being overweight rather than obese which is quite thrilling!

MamaK19 · 04/08/2026 20:36

I forgot today was sigh day 🤦‍♀️ going to weigh in the morning but jabbing tonight as usual going to be 3rd jab for me. Can tell I need to jab today feeling v snacky

DaringlyDizzy · 05/08/2026 10:59

Official weigh day today and jab 4 this evening
SW 17st 7
CW 16st 5
GW 10st 7

Frustrated as I was 16st 2 this time last week! I am working out and limiting to 1300calories max. But hoping its muscle building and water retention

How’s everyone doing on the 2.5 still? I decided to stay on it for my next pen. Took my first dose of it on Friday and I’m starting to feel hungry again. Ideally I want to stay on 2.5 throughout but I’m worried I might need to go up.
anyone else similar? Who’s moved up to 5? How are you finding it?

I’ve just taken the 6th jab, my pen is a 5mg pen but I’m microdosing. I’m getting on fine with 2.5 so sticking with that. I’ve lost 17lbs in 5 weeks.

Wigwambam65 · 05/08/2026 12:26

I’ve had a change of plan. My pen jammed last night and I couldn’t do the fifth 1.25 dose. It’s so annoying as there is a fair bit left in the syringe (am wondering if it is set to not allow a fifth dose or more likely I’ve done something wrong). I’ve sent for some insulin syringes and am going to try to get the rest out that way later today. If it doesn’t work I’ll take a 2.5 dose from my new pen.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 05/08/2026 14:20

Someone upstream managed to force the dial round to get a last dose out. You might need to scroll a bit to find it.

BritbirdUK · 05/08/2026 16:16

I have only told a few people that I am jabbing. Husband (who was a huge support and came with me to the Drs etc) a friend who is also jabbing, and then 3 others. I am not necessarily hiding it and if people ask I will tell them but otherwise just keeping it low key.

I just cooked a standard sized evening meal and I am so overstuffed I hate this feeling

Hopefully doing my first 2km run tomorrow morning so I guess it will be good fuel for that...

MammaGnomes · 05/08/2026 19:54

Just catching up on the posts!

I was only planning on telling my husband and my sister but I had a girls trip planned a couple of weeks in with my mum and my others sisters and it slipped out. They were all really supportive and have been checking in to see how I’m getting on which is nice.

the hunger is still hanging around a bit however I’m definitely able to resist temptation more. I was in the office for work yesterday and didn’t think about the biscuit jar once!
I think I’ll carry on on 2.5 but might order the 5 pen next and micro dose. It gives me the option to go up a bit if I need to and I believe it works out cheaper that way too?

next dilemma I need your help on is my all inclusive holiday on Sunday. I really can’t decide if I should jab before I go (usually on a friday) or skip a dose for what will be around 10 days. We are away for 7 days so I could skip the Friday and then take my next dose the following Wednesday?

help anyone have a summer holiday planned? What are you planning on doing?
